No, I mean I’m ok with the second paragraph as a man.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/02/25 06:02 AM

Technically, a marriage lasts until the death of one spouse.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/02/25 03:27 AM

Indeed. That’s one of my favorite teachings because it goes beyond the worldly understanding of marriage.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/02/25 03:25 AM

That’s exactly what the Catholic Church believes. The church teaches that as far as God is concerned, a sacramental marriage is unbreakable, except through death. Therefore, it should not be entered into lightly. The Anglican communion agrees. The traditional wedding ceremony that you see starts often on TV comes from the book of common prayer. It begins with an admonition on marriage and why it should not be entered into lightly.

I have to go against you there man. Maybe it’s just my Christian upbringing, but I’m a firm believer in “what God has joined, let no man put asunder.“ Marriage is supposed to last until one of the partners dies. To clarify, it’s not the separation that I think is wrong. It’s the re-marriage after divorce that I have a bigger problem with. If more people (especially Christians) took Jesus’ and the Church’s teaching on marriage seriously, I think there would be fewer unhappy marriages.

What if I were perfectly fine with that? Those terms are acceptable to me.

And that’s where your brother is wrong. Two reasons: 1) Christians husbands are commanded to “love your wives” as Christ loved the Church. I highly doubt marital rape is a loving act. 2) Christianity doesn’t oppose divorce wholesale, but remarriage after divorce.

Yes, I do 100 percent. Adultery is a dastardly act that should not be tolerated whatsoever. When you marry someone, you are promising “to have and to hold, for richer or for poorer, for better or worse, in sickness and in health…” Marriage should not be entered lightly.

In my case, I hate casual sex on both ends of the equation. It just grosses me out to see something intended for the unity of marriage and the creation of new life be degraded into pure carnal lust. It also diminishes participants’ ability to pair bond and spreads venereal disease. If everyone were monogamous, then STDs could go extinct in a generation or two. But, as the pandemic demonstrated, people aren’t willing to suppress diseases if it’s too inconvenient (I am guilty of this myself). I’m …

I think that as birth rates continue to decline, governments will impose taxes on childlessness to punish DINKs and offset their lack of contribution to the population.

I’d add that a lot of people (specifically the people who think abortion is murder) saw the “sex strike” and said “don’t threaten us with a good time.”
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/24 01:54 AM

You don’t like classical music? That’s a shame. If you’ve ever seen a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, you’ll know why I enjoy it. And I’m something of a metalhead myself.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/02/24 05:18 PM

Narrow that down to Catholics and see how that looks. And it’s not the divorce that’s the sin. It’s the remarriage afterwards that is sinful.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/02/24 04:30 PM

I disagree. I am a choir singer in my church and I absolutely love the music. If you can find a church with a good traditional music program (SATB choir and organ), you’ll enjoy it.

I wish those existed in either Huntsville or Nashville.

This feminist fantasy will only work until men remember that they are collectively stronger than women. If they are pushed too far, or if they fear the birth rates are too low for too long, they will eventually subjugate women by force and women will be worse off than before.

Christians believe that God instituted marriage when the first woman was created. “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined with his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”

I’m pretty sure it was a) Protestants and b) secular authorities that were the ones involved with prosecuting witches. St. Augustine wrote that “The Church has no reason to persecute witches because their powers do not exist.”

In many ways it does. But my argument above was also espoused by Pope Paul VI in Humanae Vitae. He wrote: Another effect that gives cause for alarm is that a man who grows accustomed to the use of contraceptive methods may forget the reverence due to a woman, and, disregarding her physical and emotional equilibrium, reduce her to being a mere instrument for the satisfaction of his own desires, no longer considering her as his partner whom he should surround with care and affection

The first thing that comes to my mind is that it reduces women to being sex objects. Men in general are not as respectful to women as they once were because of this.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/12/23 12:09 PM

I don’t use tiktok. It’s Chinese spyware.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/12/23 11:34 PM

I would be publicly humiliated and other ladies would say “oh, it’s that creep” and I would be even worse off than before. Oh, and I might get doxxed or something like that.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/12/23 11:34 PM

I’d be called some sort of creep for approaching the wrong woman at the wrong time.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/12/23 11:31 PM

I’m constantly afraid to ever approach a young lady for fear of somehow ending up on tiktok. “The worst she can do is say no” is no longer true, and that’s terrifying. How can I get over that? I’m doing pretty well for myself otherwise.

I’m willing to let those preferences slide if there’s something else that outweighs them. They’re not absolute requirements.

Prefer is the key word, and there are mitigating factors that I will take into consideration. Student debt is fine if it’s for something like an engineering degree or medical or law school. At the same time, having zero student debt and a degree of that sort indicates that either a) the person comes from a well-off family, b) the person was able to earn and maintain a good scholarship (I fall under this category), or c) the person worked their ass off to pay their way.

It was a conscious choice to hold myself to that same standard. I’m a fair man.

Preferences aren’t absolute; if there’s something really good about someone, it can override those preferences. That said, I was mainly asking about the idea of having those preferences at all if I hold myself to that same standard. Thank you for your answer.

It’s just that I saw how so many people pitched a fit over that blog post a few years ago and that people still find it “sexist” or whateverist to have that kind of preference.

That freedom is great, right up until the Norks realize that they’re outbreeding South Korea. Population decline in South Korea means increased vulnerability to invasion by North Korea.

That’s because in a lot of places (including the UK), rape is legally defined as forcible penetration by a man. News outlets in those places cannot say the female teacher raped a student without committing libel.

This, please. I’ve been saving myself for my future wife for this reason. I want my first time to be my future wife’s first time too.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
