Can't help, but I'm with you. I'm always just a second from breaking down. Not over the ex, but over my kid. I've cried in front of more people in the last 3 months than I have in my entire life. I don't go to the gym, but I walk a lot, and it's hard not to break down then. Nothing seems to help, and I feel like my reality is so destroyed and I have so many hard decisions to make, and none of them have good outcomes. No friends here, no family. Yeah, it's a lot.

Struggling with this...between facing awful coparenting situation and 14yo that pulls away most the time, but then comes back just once and a while. Don't know what to do. I wouldn't abandon her, but thinking of doing something where I focus on holidays, summer, and long weekends here and there, rather than forcing the 50-50 schedule. IDK...any insight I can ruminate on?

Maybe $1600/mo starting at 65. I guess that's actually decent.

I just don't feel like there's any fight to be had. Yeah, he's fighting for alimony, but kids are going to vote with their feet and that's the only fight that matters. I can't give them what STBX can.

Bro, I don't even know what that looks like. Move back to where I can live and be okay, or struggle to get scraps of time here. I know you don't have the answer, but I sure don't either.

Teens? It looks like I'll be just down the street from STBX and less than a week in, my kid wants to mostly hang out over there. I'm having a hard time with that right now, but I'm where I was afraid I'd be: depressing basement apartment in a cold shitty city where, honestly, we had no reason to live in before the split.

I'll talk to the lawyer. I agree with what you're saying about letting her have her way. This whole process has been about her getting her way, and this just feels like one of the littler fights. Pretty beaten down already, and just don't feel like this is where I can put my energy or money.

About to turn 14, and we just started. She was with me for almost 8 months without STBX but now we're back doing temporary 50-50 because I thought it was the right thing to do. Kid is caught in the middle, and I have no idea what will happen. She might end up just staying with STBX in the family home, that thought breaks my heart becuase I was SAHD and my life has been seeing her everyday.

I'm familiar with this from my time in aviation, because pilots go thru this...you talk to a doc about mental health and you're grounded, essentially permanently unless you have a good union. Problemsolve some: Do you have annual medical reviews? Pilots report any stupid visit to the doc since their last medical (every 1-2 years), but do you just do a physical? Do you only have to report diagnoses, or only medications? You might be able to get mental health care by working around your reporting …

I know man. I can't imagine what ur going thru. It's not knowing, and having a teen--an autonomous teen with an opinion that I have to listen to but that is often irrational and shortsighted--makes the uncertainty even greater. But shit, 4 years is going to suck. If she was younger...

This is true. I have a teen. Thankful it means only 4 more years, but sad that it's at a time when she needs family more than anything. The stress and anxiety are killing me.

Is it court ordered? My STBX (of course) already downloaded it and set up the account. And how do you go 5 years and not have this shit done?

Spent last night grabbing all pictures of the kids out of shared albums, assuming one day STBX will figure out that she can unsub me and I'll lose them.

Careful you don't set yourself up for a DV restraining order.

I'm going thru same thing, 8 months, have my own place, no orders giving her exclusive use. Lawyer said he could file a motion that would be heard in 6-8 weeks, or he could ask her lawyer pretty please. I'm assuming all that stuff is lost.

It's only after you've lost everything that you are free to do anything. And that's some scary shit. Few years from now you'll realize you didn't lose much, if anything. Breaking up with my high school sweetie was the best thing that happened to me. At least you weren't doing it with kids, like seriously. You got money in the bank? Been contributing to your retirement? Go do a fucking walkabout man, before you get old. Life's too short for this shit.

Ah, fortunately it's pretty simple in my case. I work in a service industry with no assets other than my computer (basically), and barely have to keep books because I send contracts out and get paid for them. Good to know, but in my case what's on my 1099s is it's worth. Now, I do expect that vocational evaluation.

So if the TRO hearing happened and no relief was granted then it's done and gone. I think that's where I am then. The next thing coming up is the hearing for Temporary Orders.

Already tore that down. IDK if it's what my lawyer meant or if it just felt so inevitable that that's the way I took it, but when she showed up I said "what she's asking for makes it look like she wants 50-50" and he gave me the talk that that's what was probably going to happen anyway (she doesn't have anything that would disqualify her from being a parent). So ex and I met and agreed 50-50 starting that week. At her TRO for regaining custody all the judge said was "you 2 work out visitation" a…

Remains to be seen. I'm living on credit right now and we haven't even had temporary orders hearing. I'll get 50-50, but going in I thought I had a shot at 70-30 and deciding where we lived. Child support calculator says it's about $300/mo. That'll cover extra food I think, but not a 2 bedroom. I'm just really down. Going in I thought I'd land on my feet, not on my face.

At the TRO hearing the judge didn't mention it. Does that come later?

thansk for the answer. I'm self-employed and my income is variable, that's why.

Utah, so we're "equitable distribution" and SS possible but discretionary. My income hasn't changed for 7 years, but I have a masters degree, so I think that's what they are going after.

Did that right away. He wrote an email to her atty, which I'm sure she didn't even read. He also wrote an email "demanding" that my ex pay for defending the TRO, which I'm sure also got the same level of attention. He's supposed to be a good lawyer, but I think the system limits what is possible.

It's really hard to believe that right now.

Sorry. She was SAHM with no earning potential? We're in the US, just got started and spent probably $12k already on lawyers.

Was it the divorce that burned through your retirement dollars, or was it that you needed the combined accounts to retire, but individually you weren't left with enough. This is a major stress for me, and I'm between burning money to get all I can, and trying to mediate to preserve our overall assets.

Daugher finishes school I'm bumming it in Mexico, Panama, maybe S America. One way trip as far as I'm concerned. Coulda retired early with the wife and family and traveled all over. She wanted a divorce. Ok thanks.

When my divorce is final I'll post the texts I found on wife's phone from her friend explaining how to use DV for custody and advice on how to run off with the kids but still get custody.

Yeah, IDK why but the judge put us in this position by telling us to "work it out" even tho she was ruling on a batshit emergency restraining order against me.

Then WTF? Can I be doing anything? What else is she going to try? Is there nothing my lawyer can do, or is he just not doing anything but reacting after shit hits?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
