| 2 | Did anyone else develop a complex about how "scary" they were to women? Thanks for the thorough reply. True about consequentialism being vague. Well, this is ethics, if it were easy, we wouldn't be disagreeing 😉 The point about pledges etc. is a deontological one - nothing outweighs a right. It's a valid way to argue, but it's a case of agree to disagree. Points: 1. Most women I know also do cross the street in such situations. Just that nobody needs to ask them to, because they know what it's like. 2. I don't think there is a negative judgment made either, it's jus… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 02/02/24 04:03 PM |
| 2 | Did anyone else develop a complex about how "scary" they were to women?I'll be honest - I absolutely hate that. I find this website annoying, I find the whole situation annoying, and I don't want to be made to feel like that. But I am also a utilitarianist on that - at the end of the day, the right thing to do is the thing that creates the most net good for everybody. I think that in this case, the positive outcome for a woman (reducing anxiety, feel safe) is significant, while the cost for me (crossing the street, feeling mildly annoyed), is rather small. So of co… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 01/02/24 09:19 AM |
| 2 | The Economist: Why polygamy breeds civil war (through worsening male loneliness.) Developing countries that practice polygamy in upper classes show us exactly the road we are heading down if we don't treat the male loneliness epidemic.I get the impression that this trend is waning as women generally earn more and want other things from men. They would do it because even if virtually any cis woman can get a man, most of them say they can't seem to get a man they'd want. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 29/01/24 10:52 AM |
| 0 | Whataboutism is a justified and logical response in certain contexts, such as the dominance of women's issues over men's issues in terms of public attentionIsn't this not a matter of what you say but how you say it? If someone says 'X is a problem for women' and the reply is: 'but what about Y that's a problem for men?', it's different from saying: 'sure, let's deal with X, and while we're at this topic, let's also deal with Y'. The point is: often whataboutism implies a person doesn't acknowledge the problem raised initially and has no intention of addressing it. It's no wonder that bringing up his own problem then isn't going to win much support.… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 29/01/24 09:19 AM |

ENM is when you and your partner agree that you want your relationship to not be exclusive in terms of emotions and/or sex. It's ethical because it's based on a mutual agreement that everyone is aware of and has freely chosen. For example, my partner and I have regular lovers and hook up with people a fair bit, but we have some rules and generally make sure to be very mindful of each other's emotions (e.g. I'd naturally cancel my date if my gf is feeling down and needs my support). One of the most powerful messages progressives have which I think is not nearly utilised enough, is precisely that: you can be anything you want (as long as you're not harming anyone). | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/01/24 04:13 PM |

Developing countries that practice polygamy in upper classes show us exactly the road we are heading down if we don't treat the male loneliness epidemic.Thank you! I think we need to be prepared that this will go both ways, as in real women might also use AI boyfriends, also getting things that few real men are prepared to offer. It's a curious future we're heading towards. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/01/24 04:11 PM |

Developing countries that practice polygamy in upper classes show us exactly the road we are heading down if we don't treat the male loneliness epidemic.Yeah, I don't think it would work for me, but then how many things today are already hacking into our evolved reward systems. I mean, eating sugar, playing games, watching porn, these are all ways to hack our dopamine and offer a fake solution to real problems. AI partners would just be another one. I guess the questions of: will it happen? and: is it good if it will happen? are separate... | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/01/24 04:07 PM |

Developing countries that practice polygamy in upper classes show us exactly the road we are heading down if we don't treat the male loneliness epidemic.I'm glad you said it doesn't apply to ENM, people do get confused. Do you think that one solution to male loneliness might present itself through technology? I'm thinking AI. I'm equal part hopeful and worried about it, because on one hand, people might be able to get companions who will not only fill the gap but also help them practice their social skills so they might become more likely to make real friends and find real partners. But on the other hand, perhaps this will only serve to isolate … | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/01/24 10:43 AM |
| 1 | Did anyone else develop a complex about how "scary" they were to women?I guess you must be from the US if you think that buying a gun is a solution :D Do you have a recognisable sign saying 'not a rapist'? Tattoo on your forehead perhaps? Do the rapists have it? Because if not, then how the hell is she supposed to know? In fact, you crossing to the other side of the street is a recognisable sign. It is really not that hard. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 28/01/24 10:09 AM |
| 0 | Did anyone else develop a complex about how "scary" they were to women? No you didn't, you're just dodging the question. It's not your fault people don't trust you're not a terrorist without putting you through security. Do you refuse to go through security at airports? TBH, I did think that a sub called LeftWingMaleAdvocates will be a bit, you know, more left wing. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 25/01/24 09:52 AM |
| -4 | Did anyone else develop a complex about how "scary" they were to women? You say you wouldn't want to make anyone uncomfortable with your actions. But that is exactly what walking behind a woman on an empty street does - it makes her feel uncomfortable. And scared. It's not like you moving away gives her some great comfort. It just removes the discomfort. So? I have a question to you. Do you like terrorists? Because you know that you have some ridiculously low chance of being harmed by one, right? Probably way lower than the chance a woman has to be attacked and rape… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 24/01/24 08:00 AM |
| -1 | Did anyone else develop a complex about how "scary" they were to women? No, that's the logic of high stakes danger. It is normal for humans to treat threats as serious if stakes are high even if probability is low. That is why you need to go through airport security even though 99.9999% of passengers are not terrorists. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 24/01/24 07:50 AM |
| 1 | Did anyone else develop a complex about how "scary" they were to women?Ah crap, medium paywall, sorry. Here it is on my website https://simonfokt.org/index.php/2023/01/07/guilty-until-proven-innocent/ And sure, the real solution is not to cross the street, the real solution is to eliminate street attacks. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 24/01/24 07:45 AM |
| -2 | Did anyone else develop a complex about how "scary" they were to women?I'm not going to argue against Pizzey and the claim that women are also perpetrators of domestic violence. But this thread is about street violence. Whatever is the case at homes, it is just not true that women attack men on the streets nearly as much as men attack women (or other men). | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 23/01/24 09:30 PM |

| -11 | Did anyone else develop a complex about how "scary" they were to women?I'm doing that and I do get sympathy. I don't like it, but I recognise my discomfort is lesser than the women's discomfort. If anyone is to blame here, it's not women - it's the men who do actually pose a danger to them and who make them afraid of us all. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 23/01/24 09:23 PM |
| -6 | Did anyone else develop a complex about how "scary" they were to women?I thought a lot about this, because when dating as a man I often feel guilty before proven innocent. But I don't blame the women for this, they've got good reasons to be cautious. If you want, I can link a text I've written about this, I just don't want to spam uninvited. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 23/01/24 06:54 PM |
