How long have you two been together? And do you have a good support system in place? I truly hope all goes well for you and you find yourself safe and happy on the other side of this very soon. Please keep us updated!

I've posted here before about being married for almost 20 years and never receiving a gift for any occasion...I am so glad I am single instead wondering and worrying (and hoping) that this year would be different. My 2 daughters bought me candy and flowers and the sweetest card. They are well aware of how I was treated and love showing me how much they appreciate me. I am glad I am raising young women who will not accept anything less then what they truly deserve. Happy Valentine's Day to you!! …

“Short hair actually looks good on you!” “Have you ever thought about growing your hair out? I mean it’s cute but…” “You make short hair look sexy”. Yeah. There is much more to my personality than my hair. But of course he’ll spend the entire date talking about himself and never find that out…

I’m so glad you found this post encouraging. It hasn’t always been easy. And I still have those moments of doubt in myself. I have tried to picture him in my life now - where I am so much happier- and he simply would not fit. I think THAT is one of the biggest indicators for me that I made the right choices.

It won't happen overnight, but you will find yourself putting energy that you used to use in dealing with that LVM into doing things FOR YOU! Make the absolute most of it!

Me (3 weeks before Christmas): I love Christmas and I found you the best Christmas gift! I can’t wait to give it to you! CHRISTMAS DAY Me: (gives NVM a truly heartfelt, perfect Christmas gift) Him: oh. You seriously bought be something?!

This is really rough when you encounter it. I have just came across the same thing: knew the guy for a while, really enjoyed the banter and conversation we had, exchanged numbers (the reasoning was we had a mutual friend who was very sick and we wanted to keep in touch in case we heard anything). We hardly ever texted. Very occasionally he would send a text about the friend and that was it. We spoke to each other in person on a weekly basis. And then, last week, he sent me THE TEXT. The 2AM, wha…

Believe me I know that there are issues with it. But we’ve enjoyed it and when there is something problematic that comes up we discuss it.

We watch a lot of things together, we are currently watching Gilmore Girls. When I can I try and say, "oh I love how he stood up for her". Or "I can't believe he would say that to her", just these little comments can really help get a discussion going. She also watches a lot of shows out of Korea, these really seem to be popular with kids her age. Although I am generally in the room with her while she is watching, I don't pay that much attention to them since the majority are sub-titled.

Dress in what you love and what makes YOU feel good! I enjoy doing my makeup and looking nice. It has very little to do with my date, I just enjoy it. I'll also wear jeans, simple shirt and a blazer or fitted jacket...this is my go-to feel good outfit. You need to be comfortable in your own skin.

This is 100% what I have encountered as well and I have always been too worried about being seen as harsh or critical (insert your own negative adjective here) to follow through with what my gut was telling me. NO MORE! This is why I love FDS, it makes it OK for me to stand up for myself. It shouldn't take a subreddit to do that, but for me I need it.

I think warning about too much messaging before is more about "love-bombing" and how some some guys really seem to only want someone when they are bored. I am really surprised you would cancel if a guy texted to confirm ( I don't mean that in a judgmental or negative way). It's so interesting how what is considered normal in one cultural is taken a totally different way in another.

I hate when a GUY tells me he can cook, because what usually happens is he will suggest cooking for me for a first date. UM NO! That means I go to his house, and have a sub par dinner that is probably served on paper plates. That's not going to happen, but if I dare to dismiss the idea it's seen as me just wanting him to pay for my dinner. Guys need to understand, you're not paying for my dinner, you're paying for my TIME.

I find it really interesting that her first concern was the walking issue, but she later edited that there are other issues. One red flag, no matter how small typically leads to much larger ones. It's like pulling a thread on a sweater, pretty soon the whole thing unravels when you begin that tiny pull.

When Brian Laundrie's body was (supposedly) found, the comments on my local news's FB page about it were sickening. I only responded to one, because it was a rabbit hole I didn't want to go down. A older lady commented " Now we will never know why he killed her". My response was: "Because he was/is a psychopath." People will really think there is a justified reason, or say something like, "well, murder is never right...but still...I can see the reason...". It is just sickening.

My friend divorced her husband about 3 years ago and immediately began "dating" a guy she has known since high school. He lives in another state and will not come here to see her. Furthermore he has all of the negative traits of her ex-husband. It is so sad to see. She has not asked for my opinion, but when we are together she complains about him and I listen and try to respond by giving her advice and support. At the end of the day her philosophy is she would rather be with someone then alone. …

The only reason this is seemingly being embraced by society is because it is a rich, popular, good-looking couple. Just like when the 50 Shades of Grey series suddenly made S&M "normal". You take your average couple and have them describe their lives this way and it sounds terrible. They are taking something that is not normal and making it sound glamorous.

One of my dearest friends has a child who is nonverbal autistic. She and her husband are both amazing parents to this kid, but it has taken a SEVERE toll on their marriage. They do as much with him as possible, but even the slightest task is an HUGE ordeal. They have found themselves doing more things independently of each other so one can stay home and the other can do whatever. As he gets older this is even happening with vacations. Friend has said they would probably be divorced - except each…

I cannot love this comment more! I have been divorced for 8 years, and I am 48. I have only dated a few guys and none for very long. I would so much rather do my own thing then have to spend time doing something with someone I can't stand.

I repeat this to myself constantly. I have not dated a man in a very long time, because of the low to no effort I have seen. I simply will not go out of my any longer to try and have a relationship. If he wants to text, HE WILL. If he wants to know how my day is, HE WILL ASK. If he cares about me at all, HE WILL SHOW IT.

State a boundary: eg not taking calls after 9pm YES! I used to spend SO MUCH TIME texting with these random guys all evening. It is a total waste of time. I have removed myself from the dating scene presently, but when I was doing OLD I tried to start putting a limit on my time and not immediately replying to texts. I wasn't trying to play games, I just truly wasn't interested in a entire night of conversation with a stranger. To help me space out my texts I would play a game on my phone and not…

I literally started saying this when a guy asked me if I liked to cook. Which I actually do. But come on!! So I said - do you like to build things? And he of course had no idea the shit storm he was entering when he said he didn’t.

If I am asked to cook for someone I either reply, "Oh you know I have been wanting some new flooring installed (car oil changed, whatever), you could come and take care of that and I'll fix dinner." or "OH, I don't cook for men I am not married to". Either way, the trash takes itself out.

Shouldn't "nice" be the lowest bar these guys should meet? Can you imagine if a woman's main personality trait was being "nice"? Actually if a woman is called nice men actually act like she has leprosy.

I have been on A LOT of first dates and have never had the chance to even begin to talk about myself. The guys can't stop talking about themselves long enough to as me basic questions, let alone hear a traumatic event. These first dates are more like therapy sessions for the guys. Which is why I order what I want regardless of price and feel zero guilt about it. Well, back when I was dating, haven't been on a date in MONTHS.

I made a post a few weeks ago about never receiving gifts from my LV-ex. Thai Christmas my kids absolutely outdid theme selves making it special for me. Anyway. I was cleaning out a cupboard and found this. And ugh. Memories. I was off and on dating a guy and we were “on” during Christmas a couple of years ago. I was thrilled because I truly love buying special gifts. I purchased 3 different items for him. Money wise all told they were less than $100 but they were very special, personalized item…

"I love a woman with class" = wants a blow job in the front seat of his car outside a restaurant. "I love a woman who knows what she wants" = argues with her about what HE wants "I'm a great dad and my kids will ALWAYS COME FIRST"= expects you to also put his children first and most conversations revolve around his kids and their 'crazy mother'. "I just want a women I can hold a great conversation with" = will only give one word answers and makes you feel like you are interviewing them. You come…

As you continue your weight loss journey you’ll be more observant about how you’ll be and how you were treated. I lost quite a bit of weight about 4 years ago and found myself latching onto any man who showed me attention. I have regrets about that tone of my life. You being on this subreddit puts you miles ahead of where I was.

Every word of this really spoke to me. I can’t get excited about dating or men anymore. I’m 47. And I think I’ll be alone for the rest of my life. And I’m ok with that.
