There will be parts of religion preaching communal doctrine, parts of it that preach something else. 1	Mental Mastery I initially picked up the book to practice meditation, but the journey I was taken on by that guy was incredible. It was like having snippets of self-aware thoughts that anybody would have being articulated comprehensively. Admittedly, parts of the book are a bit new-agey, but I feel you can get a lot out of the book if you focus on his broader meaning My favourite part was a chapter called Entering the Now (or something to that effect).
