TL;DR: With this post I'm going to go into he habits which need to be inculcated into our psyche in order to become the best version of ourself. This is what has personally helped me. Pleas fee free to share your own habits which have helped you achieve mental mastery.

Mental Aspect Lots been said here about this before and no wonder, because this is essential. The way you perceive the world around you and the way you see yourself stems from the beliefs you hold about yourself. Some of us hold on to certain negative beliefs and ideals. These beliefs have to go and you need to root them out yourself.

Before I tell you how to achieve mental mastery, I want to point out the recent view I've started taking toward life. LIFE IS MEANINGLESS. There is no meaning to it. You are not capable of overcoming your senses and becoming an enlightened being. But you see, there's a certain beauty to it. There's a certain charm and beauty about realising that your existence and life are meaningless. Because now you can be and do anything you want. Then you realise that your beliefs and self image are only arbitrary and are all based on the experiences you've had so far and the constant shit you feed yourself. When you understand life is meaningless you realise that you can change yourself, that you can transform, that what you are at the moment is just a reaction to the events and incidents in your life so far and that WHO YOU ARE is malleable and capable of change. You can be and do anything you want. It will take effort yes but it will definetely be worth it.

So how do you get there?

a) Negative self talk: Catch yourself. When you catch yourself being negative, immediately rephrase or revisualise the event in a positive light. Take it as a challenge. Tony robins has an excellent topic on the same which he calls the positivity challenge. They challenge you to rephrase the negative events in your life with a positive spin. You should definitely check it out.

b) Meditation: Not much has to be said about this. There's enough science out there to highlight the tremendous benefits it can have on your anxiety, confidence and presence.

c) DGAF: It's easy to say this but how do you not give a fuck? Well see, there has to be basic change in your mindset. Everyone is super occupied with themselves, with their own thoughts and self conscious about he way they act. You see, whenever someone insults you, it's a reflection of what THEY are insecure of. We cannot and should not take anything personally. Really think about this - try and think of an insult which you felt bad about and I can guarantee you that the insult from that person was probably something they felt insecure about themselves. I sometimes make fun of the way people talk but it's because I'm self conscious about the way I sound. I get pissed off when people are lost in their heads all the time but it's because it reminds me of the way I used to always be in my head.

People have enough shit on their minds and the way you look and the way you act is not really that important to them. So DGAF. Don't care about what they will think because quite frankly they're pretty occupied already. You see, as has already been eloquently posted here before, you don't matter that much.

d) Comparison: This is a never ending cycle which goes on to infinity. There's no end to someone who in some manner will be better than you. Better hair, better looks, better posture, more money etc. You need to step out of it. Realise that wherever you reach in life and whatever you do, there will always be someone better than you. Millionaires envy the billionaires, billionaires envy old money. There will always be more to achieve and more to do. Achievement and ambition per se is not bad. If a millionaire wants to be a billionaire it's all good, but beating yourself about it and not feeling worthy because you ain't a billionaire? Makes sense to you?

e) Stop taking yourself so seriously: Stop analysing every move you make, stop beating yourself about spilling some beer at a strangers house and making a fool of yourself, stop beating yourself about every little thing. In the grand scheme of things, it's all fucking irrelevant. We place to much importance on ourselves which in turn makes us take ourselves so seriously. The world doesn't depend on you. So relax. Feeling awkward around someone? Embrace it. Accept it. Make fun of it. Most of all fuck it. Think back to a time when you felt really anxious and felt like you were being judged? Is it all that scary in retrospect? We make things way bigger in our heads than they actually are. Stop taking yourself so seriously and forgive yourself. You goofed up? Big deal. No one cares. Only if you care will they care. Only if you feel bad about spilling the beer at that strangers house, will the other people feel entitled to put you down for it.

f) Affirmations: Some people hate them and some people swear by them. Nevertheless, give them a shot. Affirmations help you change your self talk. Practice certain affirmations which you resonate with. I read this post on seddit about this guys affirmations and I really resonated with them. I'll post the link in the comments below.

Summary: you need to solidify yourself from the inside. The physical aspect is well preached here in TRP - lift and eat healthy. But the mental aspect is equally important. Also a side note, persistence is key. Negative patterns are deeply rooted in your psyche and in order to counter them a lot of effort will have to be put in. Imagine for your self this scene - how will I be if I practice these mental habits consistently for one whole year? What kind of a person will I be? You'll be fucking awesome and 100 times more assured than what you are now. But it will take time and effort. But here at TRP we know that. We know that to sculpt a physique takes time and dedication, it's the same with the mental aspect. It's time you own yourself.
