I don’t think this is even remotely true of men

It took Google autocorrecting to make me realise it was a misspelling

This was not a term I was familiar with, perhaps people are saying they aren’t because they don’t know what it is?

It’s proven the pain from circumcision permanently effects brains neurology, I can see (but obviously am speculating) that it could do something similar for ear piercing
/r/PurplePillDebate29/07/24 10:07 PM

I had really considered piercing baby ears, I think you make a really good point. How old do you think someone should be to be able to consent to that? My feeling is 18 is too old to require someone to make that decision, but I guess that’s the logical conclusion of existing consent laws

In my experience, maybe half of the doctors I’ve come across are incredibly disagreeable. That’s much higher than the general population I’m in a similar situation to you, and disagreeable people are able to work well with others
/r/PurplePillDebate12/07/24 04:14 PM

I think this idea might stem from disagreeableness being a good indicator (I.e. correlated with) monetary success in life That’s the platform they’re jumping off, anyway

the logic isn’t unclear to people here, it’s just nonsensical
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates03/05/24 04:34 AM

you don’t become horny by having sex. In the analogy, you’d be eating your own food. Either way, analogies aren’t perfect and mine wasn’t intended to be taken literally nor pushed to the nth degree. Just to explain how lizard brain and inequalities combine
/r/PurplePillDebate22/04/24 05:50 AM

“yes I have all this food but it’s the hungry people’s choice to want that food that makes it an advantage for me. They create that desire their self by not eating” Obviously hunger and lust are differently important drivers, you can live without sex, but both are fundamental drivers our lizard brain makes us want. Men’s behaviour absolutely does create this imbalance, but it’s not like they’ve colluded to do this.

Have you got a source for that? Pretty sure that largest of its kind meta analysis on happiness showed happily married people were happiest of all
/r/PurplePillDebate18/03/24 05:15 AM

I think that’s the key, one can mitigate risk but not eliminate it, and we have a way to eliminate having a child for women but not men Why don’t we say the same for women? I’m pro choice, and that isn’t selective on gender
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/24 01:21 PM

Women have a 37% reduction in suicide rates when compared to those not on hormonal contraceptives (I don’t know if this includes local hormonal birth control such as some coils) In the male study, there was one suicide and one attempt out of 266 participants, so much higher than the female pill. I don’t remember exactly how long the trial lasted for. Additionally, depression rates of 6x when compared to the female pill were observed That second link actually gives quite a good in depth compariso…
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/24 01:16 PM

It’s not that simple as just using a condom, accidents happen Women rightfully have the ability to opt out when birth control fails, men do not
/r/PurplePillDebate09/01/24 12:52 PM

The male side effects were actually more severe, same side effects but more. Two men committed suicide during the study which automatically stops human clinical trials, that’s standard procedure today and one cannot get around it AFAIK Most importantly, the female pill was developed in the 50’s when the pharmaceutical industry was almost completely unregulated (by today’s standards) - if the female pill had been developed in the past 20 years it would fail at the same hurdle the male pill did. It’s hard right? Because if you are one of the women that’s signed her life away to protect her country you’d hope that they’d get some basic things right. Oversized uniform could cost a person their life, that’s a very real thing that could happen. Try literally fighting for your country and your life in boots that are a few sizes too big. That’s not a good time. Can you imagine being the guy who died because you klopped your oversize boots together and tripped over? If that could only happen t…

Who is they? There is no “the same” in the study that this rhetoric comes from, that’s the point It’s literally just comparing all men and all women, no normalisation at all!
/r/MensRights17/06/23 10:30 PM

No that’s not true, it’s simply the total amount of money paid to all women vs the total amount of money paid to all men, averaged out per woman/man It does not take into account: - job worked - position at job - sector of employment - full vs part time - time spent commuting - overtime worked - hours worked over the course of a salaried job (I.e. are you working your set hours or doing unpaid overtime) - the fact that women outlive men by at least 4 years, and so have more retirees to lower the…

How does that add to this discussion? I'm simply answering the question How is it that women “as a group” are “more likely to be poor”? Men dominate the bottom 20% just as they dominate the top 1%. Not sure what your quip adds to this discussion
/r/MensRights09/06/23 12:54 PM

You're not getting this. The 1% are so incredibly wealthy that it skews the numbers. Put 99 homeless people in a room with Elon Muskrat (net worth around 200 Billion). That would make Elon "the 1%" in that room. The average wealth per person in that room is 2 Billion. Does that mean that the 99 people are wealthy? Of course not IRL the 1% are disproportionately men, and so men on the whole are wealthier. It is the Apex fallacy and says absolutely nothing about the vast, vast majority of men The …

The top 1% is really ahead Take a step back. Average $1 and $1,000,000. You get $500,000.5 which is still stupidly more than the bottom This kind of average is called the mean (the “regular” average) and is massively affected by outliers, like people at the very top This is why “men as a group” are ahead, the dragons hoarding wealth at the top are mostly men

The figure often quoted on suicide attempts is self reported and there are some problems with that fact - the figure ironically suffers from survivorship bias, a dead person can’t tell you how many times they attempted suicide - it’s very likely the male figure is much higher, again due to the societal pressures for men to bottle up and not tell people about these things (it's worth finding a source for this) Then people tend to retort with "men have greater access to lethal means!" which of cou…

It’s not immediately obvious in slide 5 what the percentages represent, I initially parsed it as orange = agree and blue = disagree It might also be worth pointing out the size of that sample? Looks good to me otherwise

For sure, I just wanted to make sure that's what you meant - it'd be pretty easy for someone to smear you for saying "only men do difficult jobs!" I think it's important to be airtight and clear in what we say because its so easy to be misconstrued very easily, and it's especially important for something that is unfortunately so controversial

But exactly the same line of reasoning can be followed by a man who is a victim of violent crime, so why isn’t it, and why isn’t there that same level of fear? Ultimately this boils down to fear of crime != actual risk of crime

I'd call 42% about half Of course I'm not extrapolating from my example of one, It's well known in the industry that SWE's come from (in descending order): - computer science backgrounds - math backgrounds - physics backgrounds - other STEM backgrounds - other backgrounds As far as the young person's career comment, I was responding to where NotaCrazyPerson17 mentioned women tend to opt out of the workforce. But for example about half of all maths degrees are achieved by women, it’s not just computer science graduates that go into tech Edit: I’m a maths graduate working as a software engineer, this sub is funny sometimes Additionally, tech is a “young persons career”, it has quite significant age discrimination so it’s the kind of thing a woman can do for ~ 10 years as a young higher earner and duck out for children, quite smart if you ask me

My friend, please take what I’m about to say as me doing my very best to support you right now, as it is how it is intended. You need to find help for your anger issues, this isn’t a healthy way to be for you or your family. Right, but the gene pool doesn’t have to be too small. What you’re talking about is a problem with an approach, it isn’t inherent to eugenics itself. Eugenics isn’t the same as interbreeding to “keep the blood line pure” (yuck), that’s just an example of eugenics. Eugenics is just selective breeding and that doesn’t have to be done with a constantly decreasing population of organisms For example there’s been a lot of work done to make French bulldogs much healthier with longer snouts by adding o…

I had a similar experience with my current partner (and past partner, which ended poorly) and I was really struggling to understand it. We talked about it literally last week, I described it to her as “You won’t let me be sad”. We did some research and it turns out it’s a feature of codependency. Us simply being aware of it has helped both of us with this tremendously. She’s getting some help with it and I’m extremely proud of her

Exactly, the same amount of money affords a decreased standard of living, not an increase Equivalently, the same standard of living costs more money Why would having kids increase your standard of living?
/r/MensRights25/07/22 03:24 PM
1

Why would standards of living increase if there are only more costs involved? A couple (together or not) without children can simply afford a higher standard of living than that very same couple with children

It’s not a perfect analogy, I was making a specific and limited point by providing a counter example Let me flip your question, if society forces women to take foetuses to term should it not be responsible for the consequences of that? I believe that’s the logical extension of your argument, but pro life movements are actually pro birth, not pro life. Society must pay for the consequences of inflicting birth on people, if it believes it has that power

And yet, it is a known potential and reasonable consequence of the act of sex. A scuffed knee is a known potential and reasonable consequence of riding my bike, but none of that means I don’t deal with it if it arises right? Appreciate they don’t have the same gravitas as outcomes, but the point I’m trying to make is that something being a known potential consequence of something doesn’t make that consequence unchangeable after the fact

/r/MensRights11/06/22 06:00 PM

Yeah they do, firstly the final case where both want it up can’t happen, because the woman sits down always. This is why the probabilities matter, since the impossibility excludes the last case. You took the right first step to find the set of possible events, but now you must find the probability density of this set of events. the probability that the seat needs to be touched given that the seat is up, and then again given that the seat is down, it turns out that those probabilities are 2/3 and…
/r/MensRights09/06/22 09:40 PM

Yeah, but on average the seat is down? Man sits 1/3 the time, Woman sits all the time Assuming equal men and women using the toilet, that’s sitting 4/6 or 2/3 of the time

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/05/22 03:10 PM

Right, exactly! In exactly the same way, you need to first demonstrate your assertion
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/05/22 02:15 PM
0

But you can’t demonstrate that FSM doesn’t exist, so what basis do you have to say that the premise is false? The exact point is that you are both simply asserting something without evidence
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/05/22 01:36 PM

To demand a counter example one must normally provide an example first, for statements to have meaning rooted in truth they must be falsifiable. Otherwise it’s no different (logically speaking) to claiming that we were all created by some Flying Spaghetti Monster, and being more sure of one’s convictions when no opponent can provide a counter example. To be clear I’m not taking sides, but the movement needs to be making evidence based assertions if we are to make real change

yeah I think the suicide rates were in line with the female pill, which is why feminists were so upset. Their line of reasoning is that they put up with it so why can't men? The difference is the female pill was invented in the 50's (released from 1960 onwards), and the pharmaceutical industry was _very_ different back then, it had a drastic change in safety regulations in the 90's. Is it? Shouldn’t a group get to define what their own label is? Hetero/homo etc are at least literal descriptors, cis is (as far as I know) a pretty arbitrary word - the way I see cis unfortunately used as a slur sometimes makes it a slur to some people. Oh thanks I’ll look for it a bit harder There are many reason why a baby might need to be at home a bit longer, some might be health related (there is a big gap between needing to be in hospital and child care). Child care won’t take young babies with unstable health status and it might be as simple as allergies, colic, GI Issues. I’m not able to read the article because of a paywall so I’m acting based on what’s said in the comments, if my assumptions are wrong thanks for correcting If the woman had to be home because of her health I’d argue splitting pay 50/50 during that time would be fair, whatever that ends up being. You’re straw manning me, there is a paid for period of parental leave; Mothers need time for recovery and healing after birth and nobody is challenging that We are discussing the extended leave after that, and only that
/r/MensRights10/03/22 09:02 PM

I think the disconnect is that in this scenario she is able to work but is choosing not to, if the man in the relationship chose to stay at home for a year would it be fair that the woman pay the man? I wouldn’t say so, unless both parties actively wanted that arrangement Of course there’s a necessary period for healing and recovery after birth, I’m absolutely not challenging that and to do so would be very not great. This is great, I support talking about and solving suicide in a gender neutral way. The commentary from this tweet isn't about japan though, this is a Western (British) woman pointing at Japan as an example to talk about the rest of the world, citing the increase in female suicide only as the cause for concern. This entire conversation also fails to take into account that up until 2020, male suicide rates have been falling proportionally more slowly than female suicide rates (based on OP's image…
/r/MensRights29/05/21 03:58 PM

Of course, I completely agree its a problem and I agree it's concerning. Peoples objection is that this behaviour is par for the course; women's suicide have been and continue to be considered more than mens when in an absolute sense it is a smaller issue and remains a smaller issue. If there were previously a higher rate of interest in male suicide that this year became diverted towards the sharp increase in female suicide, that would make sense and be entirely reasonable, but that's not the ca…

absolutely male suicide rates not increasing during 2020 is a good thing, but it looks like you're missing the point. The cause for alarm is that there is a focus on women's suicide rates rather than mens, when the problem is twice as bad for men
/r/MensRights29/05/21 12:44 PM
17

Absolutely. I'm not about to say that the female suicide problem is worse than the male suicide problem, but it has had a very sharp increase whereas the male suicide rate hasn't. I think peoples objections come from the fact that what's being ignored is that the male suicide rate is still approx 2x that of the female suicide rate, and people (majority men) are asking "why are we focussing on this increase in women and not on the fact that even after a sharp increase, so many more men are killin…

I agree with everything you’ve said, I’d like to add that I have been pleasantly surprised that what feels like in the past month or so we’ve become better as a community at doing the following two things simultaneously: - highlighting double standards and misandry - going “dude, this isn’t how we act” at people like the above I agree that over the long term we have decended into more of a redpoll sequence subreddit but I am optimistic to be turning a corner

You (one, not you specifically) should be better than the people you ideologically oppose, otherwise what makes your ideology better than theirs?

That’s a good point, the problem is wider than just Boris, politicians don’t care about us. I totally agree the NHS is in shambles, I currently work for a company that is trying to integrate with NHS payroll and it’s crazy how archaic they are - however I believe this is a feature of their chronic underfunding, they’ve been forced to do with less and less and less for an incredibly long time now I also think the management style (with regards to IT transformation, I’m not qualified to talk about…

Yes I do. I’m also a product of the divorce system, my father originally had me for the weekends which my mother perceived as unfair and got mandated to be every other weekend on the grounds that she wanted more time with me. Would you know? He was accused of mental instability on the grounds that he had a therapist, something that every person should ideally have The problem is that as soon as there is any disagreement, it must go through the courts and really - how many amicable divorces have …

Unfortunately, the NHS are doing the same thing, Boris sold us out (to the USA!)

When a couple divorces, if there is dispute between the parents in custody then the courts literally decide on the split of custody between parents, that can be zero for either party, overwhelmingly that would be the man

But you say provider and protector. Are you saying provider of protection and protector? Aren’t they the same thing?

So, where do you get the idea of men being a provider from, with respect to what you’re talking about?

In saying that are you agreeing with the asserted expectation put on men?

right, but he's painting a narrative not describing the world through empirical evidence, whether or not his description of what happens is what happens may or may not be accurate

I think actually you're absolutely right, as long as you take it axiomatically that those people are isolated from any left wing media. Thank you for the articulate response :) Certainly I think it's fair that some (maybe even most, I just don't know) of these people are isolated from left wing media, but I sure hope (and expect) I'm not the only person that consumes both far left and far right media so that I can see both sides of the argument

[@ 16:00] "Take the red pill or reject them both [red pill + getting 'woke'], either is a step to the right" Please somebody correct me or offer an alternative viewpoint, on the face of it i'm reading this as very much a "if you're not with us you're against us" kind of statement I often hear from the far left, as a lib left (more lib than left) I've been painted as a fascist sympathiser for not immediately agreeing with every statement along "the party line" as it were and this very much feels …

Don't think of it like that, that's actually not necessarily a downside, I'd think that somebody who put in 9 months to achieve the same economic outcome as somebody who spent 4+ years doing so is pretty high in my books

Presumably the person you want to have sex with is the barrier in your way, unless they also don't want to use contraception, in which case you're both consenting to any risk that your actions cause?

The problem with this argument is that women are not also told "if you can't afford to support a child then don't have sex with men"

Isn't that logic internally consistent though? Let's say you've got terms A > B > C, Obama is claiming that the person ruling over term A caused the status of the economy over term B and additionally, that the person ruling over term B causes the status of the economy over term C? AFAIK it's generally considered true that the state of the economy following a president/government body's time in rule is a good indication of how effective their fiscal policy is because it takes time to take effect

Sure, but if you were an environmental waste company that couldn't deal with e.g. plastic I'm sure you'd do your due diligence to make sure the company you outsource plastic waste to actually recycles it to a standard you consider appropriate

So, I want to preface this by saying that obviously this guy is amazing for saving his kid from potentially life threatening injury. Having said that, when in the passenger seat of a car with a female family friend who had to suddenly stop because someone ran in front of her she, all 5ft of her, instinctively put her arm out in front of me (I'm a 6ft2 240lb guy) to protect me. This might not be common, but to say this doesn't exist in women at all EVER just isn't true.

That's a really good start, can you share any stats on it please?
