It'd be good if the same was done for the Daily Mail, the Telegraph and Fox News too. Just generally.

You had men literally sacrifice everything for my country (U.S.A.) meanwhile the very same feminists that benefitted from that called them evil monsters. It depends on the war you're talking about tbh. In Vietnam, the natural allies of the drafted soldiers would have been the peace movement back home, not the hawks in government or the conservatives quivering about 'communists'. Some of those peace activists would no doubt have been feminists too. If you're talking about Iraq, the biggest mass p…

All of those refugees should instead be housed in the empty properties up and down the country that are used as investments and tax dodges. It's a pretty easy fix, if there was the will to do it. Plus, a lot of those properties are owned by Russian oligarchs. I like the irony in that.

Honestly, i tend not to let things like advertising affect my mood (or, at least I try not to). Advertising has, at this point, been distilled into an 'art' or a science. It's been distilled into a form of memetic information transfer. Buy this, buy that. Be a good consumer. Be atomised. Feel horrible. You're not human enough. Consume more. Consume better. Allowing neoliberal's consumption ideology to effect one's thoughts is a (neverending) downward spiral. turn off the tv and radio, phone your…

In terms of voting, i usually vote furthest left available. These are the people who tend to be the most antiwar, and who want provisions for the homeless, etc. So while not being male advocates explicitly, on these issues they defacto are. I would struggle to vote for someone like Jess Philips tho. I'd have probably held my nose if Corbyn was still leader, but now 'Sir' Keir is, i'd probably vote elsewhere. Maybe the Greens or a Trotskyist party protest vote. That's not even getting into the ce…

It wasn't solely China and the Soviet Union. It was Japan, Africa and South America too. I could hazard a guess as to why you chose the two places you did, but don't really wanna get into that right now. But yeah, western feminism is very amenable to corporate interests (and vice versa). Class has been almost completely removed from feminist discourse to be replaced by postmodern posturing or neoliberal girlboss sloganeering and lobbying efforts. Neither amounts to much good for anyone except th…

I noticed in that link you sent that liberals and centrists occupy the same 20 odd percent. But anyway, it's not 'demonisation' to say that liberalism hasn't been left wing since the turn of the 1800s, or that most current day liberals are the kinds of people who think an LGBT flag on a bomb is 'progress'. Look at liberal media or what gets churned out of any big liberal think tank, then tell me what most current day liberals look like more, FDR and Rawls, or conservativism with a trans flag. Pe…

Liberalism today is neoliberalism. A particularly brutal form, granted, but this is the natural end point of private property, 'free markets' and centralised government. But fair enough. I don't have much time for semantics in general. I respect your opinion, I just disagree.

Centralised state power makes it fairly difficult to make any sort of meaningful progressive gains tho. It's intentional, i'd say. That's why a lot of leftists have abandoned electoralism on the whole, barring the occasional Corbyn campaign or whatever.

I think the kinds of feminists you're talking about here probably just think 'why can't everyone just have the gender studies lecturer I had', ignoring of course that most people don't even go to university. I'm with you tho, elements of feminism are fine but if they have a PR problem, it's their own fault for only ever giving lip service to helping men and for being too bogged down in stupid theory disputes instead of actually trying to help anyone.

The internet brings out the worst in some people due to a degree of anonymity I think (altho really, that anonymity is mostly just an illusion). There's dickheads everywhere, man. But I wouldn't be confident in ascribing this kind of behavior to (mainly) women just yet. Absolutely tho, whoever brought your past assault up is a scumbag.

It depends on what a persons priorities are. Is a vote for someone like Dominic Raab an overall good because he gives lip service to issues we know about here, or an overall negative given his other actions in this current, corrupt, authoritarian Tory government? I'd argue the latter, tbh.

The honey badgers aren't all they're cracked up to be. They're almost all far right, except for maybe Prim Reaper. Straughan is, in particular. I personally think male (and female) emancipation is impossible under a right wing system. I'm pretty sure Straughan knows this too. I also think she's too close to the alt-right to be anything other than a hindrance at this point, tbh.

Well argued but would you suggest a black man on average has the same prospects as a white one in Africa, or a poor kid with a rich one (anywhere)? A gay person, like you said, with a straight one in, for example, Alabama? I understand the hesitancy with viewing every social relation in this manner, but it can also be used to highlight where discrimination really does exist, a la the sentencing gap between black men and white women.

Interesting comment. Although politics isn't exactly where I think intersectionality might be useful, but instead maybe in sociology and philosophy. In politics, it's used to shut down potentially helpful policies by the ruling class so that the status quo chugs along.

Pretty much exactly my view, too. There's validity to some feminist concepts, but there's also often glaring blind spots. I guess it's a question of what to do about it. Either fight our corner with those who might listen, or become antagonistic to the movement as a whole. I'm not sure the latter is helpful. I'm not sure the former is worth the effort. It's a pickle.

Alternatively, women were treated better in cases like this because 'patriarchy' has always valued the lives and pain of women more, on the whole. Possibly its both things, but I don't fully buy the modesty explanation as the main reason.

Yeah, I remember that PMC guy. He had some.. lets call them 'interesting' ideas. But what you'd call 'extreme', I'd probably call fascist-adjacent. Straughan's 'counter- narrative' is quite the well worn ideology and I honestly don't believe a thing that comes out of her mouth anymore. She writes well and can sound convincing at times, but underneath the flowery language is weak arguments, half truths, lies and a very backward view of the world.

The Democrats aren't really of the left. They're actually squarely to the right with some moderates and even fewer left leaning people (Sanders, Omar). Vapid 'liberal' idpol =/= the left. I don’t think [moving away from traditional gender roles] was as hard of a sell to men as we think. I don't think it's a hard sell at all, the problem is there's still been very little movement with men's role as compared to women's. To truly create a free society, we need to include everyone in that. Too often, men are still held to traditional expectations by the very people who claim to want to rid society of these things. Some people currently spend so much of their lives at work that they don't have the time to spend with their own kids. But I'm not suggesting we force love. I'm saying we could all do with more time to do with what we want, for some people that might be planting trees, others it could be spending time in libraries, again others it could be helping their communities and building connections, whether sexual or not. I'm not in favour of legislating much of anything, tbh. I guess what I'd personally suggest is striving to be a more free, open, loving society and some of these problems may go away. On a more political level, I suppose not having an economy that treats humans as 'capital' and 'resources' and where we're forced to sell our labour (for much less than its worth, often) to aid excessive consumption could help too. Humans aren't entitled to the things we need to survive..? I agree with your OP for the most part tho, it's a bit of a conundrum. I wouldn't say it's so much sex that people - usually men - crave, but compassion and love. If women find this easier to access, I don't think a glib 'hurr durr you just want a shag' is very helpful or even accurate, and does show a lack of empathy on their part.

Semantics and I'm not a linguist, but I've personally always seen respect as being a bit deferential. Decency is decency, respect is the result of actions. This is not the hill I'm prepared to die on tho hah.

Ime, it seems like women who are extremely disrespectful to men/boys don’t have much of a social impetus to change as tells them they need to respect men/boys sounds “patriarchal” when really it’s just basic decency. Interesting point. Respect is earned tho, but a base level of decency should be taught to every kid. Some people forget this.

But my point still stands. There are very few, if any, major left parties in the West advocating for an overthrow of capitalism. Maybe that's why there's such low turnout in elections in the western world. A huge part of the population has no one to vote for. In the US, we can vote for a right wing business party or a slightly less right wing business party. I don't advocate for a planned economy, either. Trying to 'fix' capitalisms "(many) failings" is a tall order, especially in the next 30 or…

There is nothing wrong with this per se, Personally, I do find something wrong with private ownership of the mechanisms used to produce the things we all need to survive, namely food, water, housing. Why can't workers own and manage their workplace without an autocracy, then? Capitalism needs a class to do the work for the class who own those factories, shops etc. Socialism is merely an extension of enlightenment ideals (the most important ones being economic and social freedom). Saying that feudalism and capitalism can work in harmony is something I already knew though. They're basically the same thing, except instead having the divine right of kings dictating who controls society, it's who…

Even in feudalistic society, people were paid according to their labor. lol. The amount of ass-licking capitalist supporting people do (most aren't even capitalists, themselves) is so unbelievable I'm surprised you don't all have dysentery. Also, you've just tacitly admitted that there's little difference, if any, between capitalism and feudalism.

Parliamentary short-lists barely register as a democratic issue (if they even do at all). There's much bigger problems with parliament and how democracy is practiced in the UK than this. 'Representative democracy' is a sham anyway and doesn't work, therefore I reckon workplace democracy is the way forward. It would lead to actual democratic and economic power for everyone.

If you watched the video, he made it clear that he thinks feminism is insufficient for liberating men because of some faulty assumptions they make. So using that framework isn't exactly what he was recommending. Nor am I. That doesn't mean some of it isn't without merit (for women). But then again, some of it can also be hostile or outright harmful to men, which isn't ideal.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates09/07/21 05:19 PM

Exactly, were. Women are probably a bit freer now than men are on the whole, but lets not pretend that anyone who has to work for a wage is 'free'. And that's almost everyone. As for the other bit you wrote, what do you suggest happens? Force women to have kids or something? I'd personally just prefer to get provisions to men a bit more instead of trying to rationalise the actions of previous generations.

Abortion rights and bringing attention to sexual assault / harassment. You might not like the way they go about it, but those two things have definitely been net positives for women.

You also said Patriarchy is... maximally conducive to child bearing and by extension, the needs of women. Freedom is a fundamental human need. Removing agency is a severe breach of that. Not to say that men are free either (very, very few were/are) but neither were women. I also don't think the needs of women begin and end with how comfortable they are to pump out 12 kids.

I must object to his appropriation of feminist terms He isn't so much appropriating them as saying some of them have legitimate sociological meanings. Just because feminists misuse them, doesn't mean the terms are devoid of meaning or value. Patriarchy does have a very specific meaning, the one he gave in the video. Faults can be found with many feminists' interpretation of this term and others, but that doesn't mean they're without merit. It sounds like your objection is aesthetic, honestly.

Here's a perspective that is very much needed, I feel. The first 4 minutes or so is just laying out problems most of us here would be familiar with, but then it gets interesting from there. Lots of food for thought. Edit: The downvotes must be because of the title of the video and from those who haven't watched it. It actually started out as a Bolshevik talking point against capitalists until western dipsticks started using it to describe all of their social ills. lol. Racism started from the Bolshevik's? Your grasp of history and reality is obviously tenuous at best. The UK and US got in there a lot earlier than the early 1900s. The issue is really not a left wing versus a right wing one but of instituitional capture of the media, academia and politics by feminism which is still very much a minority opinion despite appearances. But again, how can you say socialism hasn't worked yet, dismiss the special interests doing their best to make sure it doesn't, then go 'well look at that.. it can't work'. That's because their democratically elected leaders get shot dead, or have the might of the strongest military in human history against them. These are small countries, t…

Who says it needs to last decades, the new deal lasted a couple, neoliberalism is currently in its death throes etc. But dismissing attempts to create a socialist state (or federation of unions), held back and scuppered by cia funded and/or enacted coups and assassinations isn't exactly fair now, is it? Overthrowing feudalism for capitalism is in no way the same feat as overthrowing capitalism for socialism. Weaponry, intel, manpower, a strong propaganda system (Hermann and Chomsky's book Manufa…

progressives were the architects of the two world wars ...this is ridiculous. I don't even know where to begin with this half a sentence, or the rest of the sentence tbh. The first world war was about aristocratic power in europe, which lead to the second world war. It had nothing to do with governments scheming to consolidate their own power. Communism doesn't imply anything to do with a 'party', inherently. It can be statist or non statist, as can socialism, etc. As for women take the most and give little in return That's just insanity. Birth, child rearing (most of it) and care work like nursing are huge social benefits. The hedge fund manager who gambles other peoples money then when he fucks up gets bailed out by those very same people is the real parasite, he contributes nothing of substance or value. Women do. I guess it depends on what is being called 'regressive'. Advocating for the end to male only draft registration, circumcision and provisions for male DV victims are wholly progressive positions. Arguing that men make natural leaders and all female inequalities are down to 'natural' market forces or psychological differences between the sexes is entirely regressive and conservative. I see plenty of both of those things here and elsewhere.

Even the Republican party compared wage slavery to chattel slavery, then Lincoln took a bullet to the head. And it's not exactly a free choice when 'agreeing' this deal with the employer, for most working class people you either accept what they're offering, or risk starvation and homelessness. The employer doesn't really care either way because there's another poor person who will accept his deal.

The workers would own the business so their employer would be themselves. If they wanted to bail the business out, thats up to them. But no, they wouldn't have an employer in the manner i think you're imagining (one person or a small group who own it). Thats why I said you're trying to square a circle - you're viewing this thru the framework of capitalism.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates28/06/21 06:19 AM

This doesn't make any sense for more reasons than I have time to go into right now, not least being workers bailing out their 'employer'. You're trying to view socialism as a square peg to be circled within capitalism.

Real world purchasing power has decreased, then. A different term for the same thing. Inflation isn't even that much of a problem as long as its adjusted for accurately. Unfortunately, we know how it'll play out if the last 50 years is anything to go by - austerity for the poorest members of society, bail outs for the richest leading to a stagnant economy that prolongs the recession. Jamie Dimon once said he sees a recession as an opportunity. I highly doubt most people see it in the same light.

So they should set prices higher since the population have "2x more money". That's not true of course, since everything cost so much, we have less money to keep for us overall. Mercantile Capitalism was an 'extreme' proposition under feudalism, which doesn't mean it wasn't better.
