not insignificant numbers of downs syndrome babies I'd like to see a citation proving that it is the man's genetic fault that children are born with Downs. And that same argument can be put to the flip: men often mate with women who produce genetic dead ends. "It takes two to tango" and all that. that women somehow all somehow know what they're doing in terms of making the correct choice in mating Women know as much as men do when it comes to picking a mate. We're all human, something that you s…

Women often choose to mate with guys that end up producing retarded babies, among other things [citation needed] If you're trying to argue they have some kind of sixth sense that helps them make that choice, Nope, five senses are perfectly enough to determine who will be a suitable mate. Can't you tell who will be a good mate for you, using your eyes and ears and other senses? disagree based on the number of people who have heritable traits we find aesthetically unappealing. First off, physical …

Yea, this is totally not an MR issue. More of a (rational, moderate, not-radfem) Feminist issue

All of that assumes that women are making the "correct eugenic choice" in these matters, among other assumptions. Who are you to say what the "correct eugenic choice" is? This behavior evolved for a reason. Women who acted in this way survived and passed on their genes better than other women who didn't. That's called evolution. If it wasn't the "correct" choice then it wouldn't have propagated. whiny aging spinsters Women who thought that they had higher value than they actually did? Women that…

If it's rational self-interest then it isn't irrational. Infidelity may have negative consequences, but if the benefits outweigh them then choosing infidelity (or another "irrational" choice) would be totally rational. You seem to have a different understanding of "rational" than most.
/r/MensRights25/05/13 03:59 PM

That doesn't make it completely rational But it's rational self-interest I see you've contradicted yourself.

To repeat, hypergamy is distinct from monogamy. It is an irrational instinct, and the female sexual utopia is a consequence of that instinct. I disagree. Hypergamy is not an irrational instinct. Women must, by definition, invest more into their children than men do. Desiring the "best" man (in the singular) is as perfectly natural as men desiring the "best" women (in the plural).

/r/MensRights22/05/13 01:56 PM

Nah. Human men appear to have a different biological imperative: fuck as many attractive women as frequently as they can and play the odds. Individual male investment in children is low when the entire tribe helps to raise the children. And there is some evidence that orgies were common: the human penis is shaped in such a way so as to function like a plunger, sucking all other semen out before depositing their own genetic material. If sex was always a one-on-one private affair, then that shape …
/r/MensRights22/05/13 01:56 PM

Why would virgin-policing be a biological imperative? I get how protecting the weak would be, but biological evolution doesn't give a shit about how many people you fuck, at least directly. Lions and shit don't do this.

It's a social-cultural desire, a holdover from when a woman's "virtue" (her virginity) was the most valued commodity she was in possession of. Protecting your female children from being "violated" or "ruined" was of utmost importance to their (and your) inter-generational biological success. It probably arose from concerns about paternity: if your wife was a virgin before you fucked her, you knew that the child was yours. As a mother or father, you would want your son to pass on his genes and fo…

Because closing ourselves off both permits the radicals to perpetuate their echo chamber and disables moderates from joining our cause. It makes the unaffiliated from wanting to join. People don't like equality advocacy groups that close themselves off; why else do you think the "everyone is a feminist" line is pushed so hard? We need to have a bigger tent than they do or we will lose. Or we'll turn into them, which is even worse.
/r/MensRights22/05/13 01:31 AM

In a lot of ways, it's both. There are a lot of social and legal benefits to marriage, but they only become readily apparent if both parties see them as a single [married] unit.

I think you're mixing up your causes and effects. Your mother isn't in a shit place in her life because she's fucking tons and tons of people; she's fucking tons and tons of people because she's in a shit place in her life. I, on the other hand, have fucked a fair number of people (not 50), and am in a great place in my life
/r/MensRights06/03/13 04:10 AM
2

Read the OP. Many feminists argue that hypermasculine males in pop culture are not examples of female sex fantasies (like hyperfeminine females are) but are instead examples of male power fantasies.
/r/MensRights06/03/13 04:06 AM
1

Or there could be other reasons why your mother, for example, is getting worse and worse. She sounds like she doesn't have much of a stable home life. I presume your father is out of [her] picture. She may be putting out from a bad place - not because she's happy with herself and wants to bone, but because she's desperate to find someone to love. I'm at a great place in my life, and sex is an expression of that.
/r/MensRights06/03/13 03:45 AM

Also, action figures are (presumably) for boys, and would be evidence in support of the 'power fantasy' theory. Romance novels are a better example

And yet, it is intended to shame. Shame isn't always or necessarily directed at the target of the shame (in this example, you); sometimes, shame is used to flag the target in some way for the benefit of other people. Labeling you as a "neckbeard," whether or not you have one and irregardless of whether you feel shame, flags you and your statements as suspect or flawed in some way. Totes fucked up, but that's the goal.

No, it's the illogical endpoint of Patriarchy Theory. Patriarchy is supposed to be about how society / politics conspires to benefit men unfairly; it is an illogical (though easily predictable) jump from there to "all men are evil." It's illogical because the theory doesn't logically lead to that conclusion. It's predictable because human nature is inclined to make that illogical jump (and has in many times and places to demonize Jews / Gypsies / black people / Armenians / etc.)

Prediction: the gun-girl starts killing 'legitimate' targets (rapists). All is fun and exciting for the audience. Emboldened by having a protege, she begins to target other men (such as at 1:22) that don't rape or assault; audience grows wary. The main character begins to have doubts, gun-girl grows paranoid, both fight and one kills the other (or both). The audience mourns the death(s) of the women in the show.

Have you been raped? Have you experienced paternity fraud? Both are radically traumatic, but in entirely different ways. To compare two different types of extreme trauma - especially without experiencing them both - is rather fallacious. It's literally apples and oranges.

I need to read that study and not just the HuffPo article; I found a really glaring contradiction: Additionally, girls tend to believe male teachers will look upon them more favourably than female teaching staff, but men treat all students the same, regardless of gender. and Conducted by professors Amine Ouazad and Lionel Page, for the London School of Economic's Centre for Economic Performance, the report said: ... Female students' behavior is not consistent with male teachers' grading practice…

Source or it's not true. From the linked article: "The most common question we've gotten is whether or not the gender of the teacher matters in regards to grading students," Cornwell said. "But that's a question we can't answer because there's just not enough data available. As you can probably guess, the great majority of elementary school teachers are women."
/r/MensRights04/01/13 04:41 PM

I concur. However, lower down in the article, we get a little of what OP is pointing to: But despite changing college demographics, the new data may not be reflecting anything fundamentally new. "My argument is that this has always been true about boys and girls. Girls didn't all of a sudden become more engaged and boys didn't suddenly become more rambunctious," Cornwell said. "Their attitudes toward learning were always this way. But it didn't show up in educational attainment like it does toda…

/r/MensRights13/12/12 10:19 PM
1

And clearly replying with "violence is not the answer" would deprive those trolls of their ammo. If you're right, and the vast majority of them are trolls, then ignoring them would only make it easier for other people to come to the conclusion that men's rights are diametrically opposed to women's rights. We don't want that, because it's not true.

/r/MensRights13/12/12 03:27 PM

And you shouldn't dismiss calls advocating violence as "feminists and trolls" out-of-hand. We should respond, firmly and politely, and tell the poster that violence is bad. If the poster isn't a troll, then we need to educate. If the poster is a troll, the firmly denouncing the violence would counteract any claims of "MENSRIGHTS IS VIOLENT AND EEEVIL." It's win-win.

Public ownership, including a significant shareholder interest, is (in a democracy) theoretically "owned by society." Also, while the qualities of statelessness (which, as a society surrounded by other states, isn't really possible by the definition of "state"), classlessness, and without hierarchy are the necessary result of communism, they aren't the whole sufficient requirements of a communistic society - collective ownership of the 'means of production' is one, which (when Stalin threw out t…

The ones that you mentioned, by the way, aren't communist societies. Why? Because communism is a classless, stateless society. By that logic, America isn't a Capitalist society because it does not embody the Capitalist ideal (free, voluntary trade for mutual profit), in the same way that the USSR didn't meet the Communist ideal (classless, stateless society).

So how is your statement a valid one? You're stating, in spite of evidence, that "feminism" is causing a particular harm. You're demonizing feminism here in the exact same way that feminists demonize "patriarchy" as causing rape culture and other things - unverifiable dogmatic claptrap. If you can't prove causation (OR EVEN IMPLY WITH CORRELATION) then you've got nothing here. We need to be better than that, Erasmus.
/r/MensRights27/10/12 03:37 PM

Just because the examples posed were Malkin and Coulter, neither neofool nor the wider MRM is stating that only those two say offensive and idiotic things. Rachel Maddow, anyone?

Unless you can back that up with rape statistics before and after the passing of no-fault divorce laws, you're just talking hot air. No fault divorce was made legal in California in 1970, and nationally in 1985. Pick a date, jump ahead fifteen to eighteen years, and see if your hypothesis proves true (or find me a real study that says the same). I believe in you.

I don't see how this is penis envy, especially since she's researching and writing within the tradition of "Black Like Me," "Ten Days in a Mad House," and other undercover journalists. The only way for someone to know what it's really like to live as someone else is to actually live it. Possibly for months. It's the only way to get real information. Honestly, I'm very excited to read this book. I have high hopes for it, as an egalitarian and an (occasional) MRA. I hope we can use it to convince …

If you're going to complain about differences that subtle, recognize that all modern terms for adult females / women / etc. function as amended "-males" and "-men," that the word "human" functions in the same way, and that this alludes to a state of mind where men are viewed as the default type of person while women are viewed as Other. Or you can recognize that the Australian national online dictionary is awesome and equal in a time where almost no other dictionary-institution is.

Does your right to bodily integrity vanish if put against someone else's life? There's a really common analogy called "The Violinist Parable" or some shit. It posits that an unwanted pregnancy, especially when resulting from rape, is analogous to you being beaten up and taken to a hospital where your body is hooked up - against your will - to the body of a dying world-class violinist. Imagine that the violinist can survive only if you remain attached to her or him for the next, say, nine months …
/r/MensRights13/10/12 10:42 PM

The whole abortion debate is framed by the tensions between "when does the fetus become a person," and "what about the mother's rights to bodily autonomy." In the case of rape, because of the trauma involved, even abortion-is-murder Republicans are forced to leave abortion as an option. It's not an emotional cop-out.

I find it interesting that double penetration scenes are so much more common now than back in the days when you had to watch porn on an actual film reel. Very interesting indeed. That's very interesting. Do you have any statistics to back that up, or is it a general impression?

You're a misandrist? Fuck you. Intellectually sophisticated? That must be code for "I don't believe in an objective reality." Some things can definitely be subjective, such as your opinion of men, while some things are not subjective, such as the existence of misandry. Good day.

Ahh, so you don't believe in misandry? Cool, I didn't know our beliefs affected the external reality. I also don't believe in you. Poof! Now you don't exist.

If the misandry that we see is real (which it is, you know), then if feminists don't see it or think it isn't real & base patriarchy theory off of that incorrect assumption ... then patriarchy theory is seriously flawed.

True, but not inherent. We have a male culture that teaches us to do this. Women could learn this, too... if they were not taught by feminism to have no respect for male values. Since when was "hard work" a necessarily male value? It's a universal value. Cordoning off certain values as "male" and "female" is what got us the bullshit "feminist ethics" of subjectivity over universality. From the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy: Feminist Ethics is an attempt to revise, reformulate, or rethink t…

Perhaps because you're being ridiculous. Part of being an MRA is fighting against gender stereotyping of men. Because people get into car accidents through their own agency. Ever experienced road rage? Or seen it happen? It does. But either way, let's use a different analogy: let's say that I, as a chubby suburban white guy, decides to walk through Harlem or Brooklyn Heights at 2AM with "nothing but [my] socks, blind drunk." I'd get mugged and injured, if not killed outright. There's a difference between victim blaming and not acting in a safe manner

Because their actions affect us. The egalitarians on this sub (like myself) want this game because it looks awesome and subverts gender roles pretty well. If certain radfems get the game banned, then we won't get to play as Laura Croft as we shoot at least one rapist in the face.
/r/MensRights16/06/12 02:24 PM

After watching the video, my impressions are threefold: Laura Croft should be an awesome feminist role model. Usually, games that feature that kind of adventure and danger are starred by male leads with females supporting; this reverses that, and does it beautifully. She's a strong and independent woman doing what is typically thought of as male-dominated activities. This should be awesome for them. On fitness: you said elsewhere on the thread that adding women to the pool of possible applicants, due to an over-abundance of supply, will increase the fitness requirements for everyone. Let's say that DoD scientists have determined the appropriate fitness standard to ensure that the Rangers remain the best. If a woman can pass those higher fitness requirements, then great. "unless you agree to it beforehand, which is contingent on allowing you into the military". Hit the nail on the head.

The problem is that women are more injury prone, so their fitness standards would have to be higher than simply going by 2) But we're already raising standards anyway, so that's done with. I don't think drug use or any other injury that isn't career ending comes close the time lost due to pregnancy. It's a large enough time to loss warrant more preventative measures than simply tell people not to and slapping them on the wrist/kicking them out. They're already been trained, we should actually ge…

1) I don't know how to calculate such a thing. 2) I don't know, but I imagine it should be comparable across both genders, using equivalent standards for all Rangers regardless of gender. 3) I don't know. Same caveat as number two. 4) That would be implied in both numbers two and three. And concerning how to prevent pregnancy, I again do not know what the exact appropriate action for the Rangers to take should be. I'd imagine that similar regulations as concerning drug use or other forbidden act…

I doubt it would be easy, which is not a reason to not implement it but merely an obstacle. That's been part of my point this entire thread. We have reason to implement a non-sexist policy for the Rangers: sexism and discrimination by gender is bad no matter who it happens to. We can overcome [most] obstacles.
/r/MensRights15/06/12 01:55 AM

I'm somewhat new to polyamory, but my girlfriend and I started the relationship talking about it. It's equal, fair, and we both have veto-power over each other. This CNN article isn't advocating for poly. It's advocating for a complete and total lack of responsibility and respect on the part of women in the relationship

What do you mean by "unpregnant"? now I think about it if we just made it a readiness standard and incorporate both fitness and health it might be workable. So, problem solved
/r/MensRights14/06/12 10:55 PM
0

Because getting pregnant punished or unpunished reduces force readiness. Please define and explain that Higher fitness standard Didn't you just say that the fitness standard will increase anyway, due to an increase in the number of people applying?
/r/MensRights14/06/12 07:26 PM
1

Additionally, implementing this would increase the number of "qualified" candidates, but the military to a degree adjusts its standards to control the supply of qualified candidates to meet its manning requirements but not exceed them. So if anything, standards would increase shortly after this to maintain manning requirements, further reducing the portion qualified that are women, making the entire thing an exercise in futility. Good point, but if so: why are you objecting to the change anyway?

unless you're okay with making it a crime for deployed women to have sex or/and forcing them to be on birth control or even more crazily only allow women who have had hysterectomies apply How about putting in the requirements, "Do not get pregnant while on active duty for the Rangers"? Seems reasonable to me. Because I'm applying the same standards. Then give them the same ability to apply for the position. If 99.9% of women can't make the necessary standards of physical fitness and/or refuse to…

But there is a reason What? None of your comments have pointed to a reason to FORBID women from applying. You've said elsewhere that women aren't strong enough, etc. That's fine, big deal - so most women wouldn't be able to make the Rangers. Most men can't either. I don't care about that - it's about the friggin opportunity to apply and flat-out forbidding women from applying is sexist. No I believe most of us are against men being forced to do so. So it's about equal choices, right? Men should …

There are plenty of things men can do that no woman has ever done that doesn't require a penis, like running a sub 4 minute mile for instance Not a justification to fiat a rule that explicitly forbids women from even being able to apply. Source that Pentagon report, please. I'd love context for that claim. This is the military, not a tea party where we dole out trophies like it's youth soccer 1) That's not an argument 2) So equality isn't what we're fighting for? How are you different than misogynistic feminists?
/r/MensRights14/06/12 04:01 PM

Changing the custody law will increase logistical cost in the short term, as droves of lawyers will get involved to discuss, refine, an re-re-re-negotiate the new laws. All changes to the status quo increase logistical cost in this way in the short term. And even if you were right that allowing women would increase logistical costs by some degree, I don't believe that the costs would be so increased as to actually outweigh the moral argument. Remember that we're fighting for gender equality as M…
/r/MensRights14/06/12 02:53 PM
2

That's precisely what I'm thinking. We need all the strong, intelligent, and capable humans out there, and I don't see any worthwhile reason to restrict the Rangers by gender - might I add that we're fighting for Men's Rights? Being gender-discriminatory takes out the moral high ground of many of our argumentation
/r/MensRights14/06/12 02:50 PM
1

Logistical costs? That's the argument? The same could be said about any change to the status quo, such as changes in family court laws to make things more fair to fathers - it would constitute some overhaul of the legislation, which would necessitate reprintings of law books and so on - etc. So no, I reject that. I'm disappointed, TMF. I thought you were smarter than that.

/r/MensRights14/06/12 03:20 AM

Bullshit and bullshit. Let's break it down with bullet points and bold font: Status quo: women are forbidden from joining the Rangers on the sole basis of their sex. This is sexism and that is unethical. My assertion is that letting women apply but leaving the fitness requirements unchanged will solve this sexism. Justification of my assertion: Equality is ethically good. Sexism for no reason is ethically bad. Net benefits to my plan: If women are in general unable to meet the strict fitness req…
/r/MensRights14/06/12 03:01 AM
3

In that case, why should this change the anything anyway? If most or all of the women cannot pass the fitness training, then nothing changes. But saying that the option and opportunity shouldn't be there is unethical.
/r/MensRights14/06/12 02:23 AM
1

It will neither change the special forces for good nor for ill in terms of effectiveness or efficiency. The change would only entail permitting women to apply for the Rangers, the fitness and other requirements, beyond those directly concerning which genitalia they possess, should not change. You are advocating we maintain an unethical, unequal status quo simply because "that's how it is now." Advocate away.
/r/MensRights14/06/12 02:21 AM
2

If I had any physical strengths at all, I'd fight in the military. If I had a head for science, I'd be a physician. Sadly, I'm neither of those things. What are (read: in principle if not in practice) the Rangers fighting for, if not for the American ideal (read: democracy, capitalism, and equality of opportunity)? What do you fight for?
/r/MensRights14/06/12 01:13 AM
3

Does it? What basis do you have for that claim? Are there qualifications that can uniquely be satisfied by someone with a penis - is there a literal pissing contest involved, or a ball-measuring examination? Don't be ridiculous. My girlfriend plays rugby and does kickboxing. She could probably kick my ass. Why can't some girls GI Jane it?

women have been barred from combat in Israel since 1950, when a review of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War showed how harmful their presence could be. It's problematic in that it permits and encourages selfish, obnoxious behavior like OP's "friend." All people should aspire to be good people, and an all-inclusive ideology like Third-Wave Feminism disables that. 'Good' doesn't have to be 'strong and independent,' but it can't be 'selfish, internally-inconsistent hypocrite.'

Depending on where you are and who you're with, that could majorly backfire - if you're with a bunch of her female friends, or with a mixed-gender group of feminists / white-knights, then they'll agree with her and shout you down. Consensus does not give moral authority to a position

Disagree. If you want to get married, more power to you! It's a personal choice, and no one should tell you to or not to, provided you know the facts involved (and since you're here, I assume that you do). But you should talk to a lawyer before the engagement. In fact, it's still early on the West Coast; call a lawyer today. Ask a real professional about the law, not us activists on the internet.

The article claimed that the panel stated something significant: that the PSA test showed a false positive 80% of the time. That's a lot of false positive. Friend, don't promote one person's masculinity as "better" than another's. Fight for all men to be the kind of man they want to be, not the one that someone else - a woman, the court system, or well-meaning men - wants them to be. And Iggy Pop wore dresses. And kilts are basically skirts. If you claim that a man choosing to do something that a "real man" doesn't do, then are you any better than a selfish woman saying that "real men" pay for drinks / dinners / gifts and so on?

Or stopping another local female from grabbing this male that, apparently, the scorned female desires. Or to generally re-enforce the whole monogamy thing

In order to truly have a fair-gender government, the positions need to be given to the most competent individuals independent of their gender. Meritocracy is the best way, every time.

If anything, if I were a feminist fifth column, acting the way you do is exactly how to prove their preconceived biases and harm the movement. Shame on you. Why not? That's exactly what Kyriarchy theory does. Otherwise they'd quit bitching about men at the top. I noticed that, at the time of my original post here, you hadn't cited a single source proving that claim here or in the /r/AskReddit thread. Could you provide one? (rather than convincing an individual man to take care of her) My, you seem a little misogynist. Women need a man to take care of her? Apparently yes, or otherwise women wouldn't steal from men via government. I don't necessarily …

I got that from your prior post. Do you know off-hand any particular ones that I could read?
/r/MensRights14/05/12 08:33 PM

That's a really interesting take on it. What does the theory say are the particular hierarchies are, and what are their bases? Like, is it arguing that both men & women are harmed by societal gender roles, or is it saying that one group oppresses the other? An improvement on the concept of Patriachy by a mile though. I would also question your moral imperative of "Equality", historicaly it is unusual. Simple bases for large social change that fit on the back of an envelope, let alone one word, b…

/r/MensRights14/05/12 08:27 PM

Unfortunately it seems to make things more complicated How so? Like I said, I've just been exposed to the theory earlier today. And that's a compelling analogy. Thanks! I'll certainly look into it more. What have you read about the theory?
/r/MensRights14/05/12 08:26 PM
1

So, you use it to better engage with feminists and show them our POV? Excellent! That's exactly what I'm looking to do. Have you read anything on the theory that we can use for that?
/r/MensRights14/05/12 08:24 PM
2

Do you think there's any way we can co-opt the theory, turn it to more egalitarian ends?
/r/MensRights14/05/12 08:23 PM

Ignatius, I highly respect you, and that seems interesting and compelling. Who should I read to get the full-blown "white men are evil" vitriol of the theory?
/r/MensRights14/05/12 08:22 PM
1

Wow, man. A few points: I'm an egalitarian, not a feminist. I will happily concede a point, if you brought up any sources or citations proving your points. I like discussion and argumentation, and if you prove any of your points I will happily concede them. Kyriarchy theory appears to be "everyone is oppressed by society in different ways." If you have proof of your assertion, please bring it up and show me. Then I will accept it. You're right, you don't have to prove anything to me. But that's …

There is only one way to "resolve all oppression" and that is to oppress everyone equally. Otherwise the successful will be successful and have the ability to make the rules for the rest of us who aren't as successful Stop conflating "equality of opportunity" with "equality of outcome." Because our society was stupid enough to give women control of government, and women are using said government to steal from all men (rather than convincing an individual man to take care of her). I thought that it was a descriptive social theory? The idea presumably is that we can figure out the solutions to the systemic flaws in society than allow for people to be harmed ... I don't really know. I'm an ethical and theological philosopher, primarily, not a social theorist. Where are you getting your sources from? I'd love to read them.

/r/MensRights14/05/12 07:48 PM

/r/MensRights14/05/12 07:36 PM

Is it? What sources do you have? Are you going to argue that there are no groups (women, racial groups, religious / nontheist groups, the disabled, etc.) who experience no lack of power? And thank you for being rude, my good sir.
/r/MensRights14/05/12 07:35 PM
1

Do you have evidence of this? What books / articles / etc. do you have to illustrate this? I'm looking to learn, and this seems like it might be pretty damning to the theory

I don't think so. I mean, 3, 9, 11, 17, 23, 24, 25 and 26 are all minor issues and can easily solved by educating men on their self worth and ignoring the women and establishments that demand it. We have bigger issues to deal with. Let's not waste our breath on things that, once we take care of larger issues (male disposability, family courts, etc) will solve themselves.

Rainbow Dash physically attacks the Dragon, Dragon retaliates, and Fluttershy flies up and yells at it. The Dragon immediately cowers in fright. Which, by the way, makes me FAR more liberal than most self-described liberals. There's a difference between Classical Liberalism and modern "Liberals." TIL there are more nerve endings in the foreskin than the clitoris. Just ... wow. That makes me really sad.

Next bitch who asks how much you make, tell her "enough to buy your love tonight, ya gold digger." that's what I would do at least. Brilliant! All my upvotes!

This. Why in the world does getting drunk remove any and all liability for a person's actions? ಠ_ಠ

Professor Hakim puts forth the argument that cultures with Anglo-Saxon and Puritan roots treat beauty, charm, sensuality, and sexuality as dangerous, immoral temptations into sin, and have tried to cast erotic capital as illegitimate I'm sorry, does Hakim know anything about ethics? It's unethical and unjust for anyone, regardless of gender, to use qualities that have nothing to do with business to get ahead in business. Hasn's she read Walzer? No? Then I'm sorry, but using your money, or good l…

The trouble with the SlutWalk argument – that women should be able to dress as provocatively as they wish without being ogled or desired by men – is that these women want to have it both ways. They want to display themselves as sex objects without being regarded as sex objects. This isn’t going to happen. I am ... impressed that this woman would write something like this. Wasn't there, about a week ago, a rasfem rant by her about the male gaze and aging?

Thanks! I know how dangerous it can be. I hope it works out well - it's my first real attempt at a poly relationship, so I'm not sure what'll happen. I've been meaning to read "The Ethical Slut," I'll get to them both once I'm done with the LSATs in June. Thanks for those links! :D

Sexuak submission or social submission? My previous girlfriend was sexually submissive (in a weird, somewhat backwards fashion - begging me for a rape role-play, etc), but socially dominant. She was also an absolutely crazy person, so I ended the relationship and ran.

A lot of it is making sure that both you and everyone involved is fine with it. I'm making my first forays into it with my current SO, and (while we've only talked about it, and haven't done much yet with others) she and I seem ok.

Also, I dunno - the character in the comic is supposed to be a DEMON. They're, you know, bad guys by default.

I agree bad writing shouldn't be prohibited. But it should be OK to call out also. So we should say "Your writing is sub-par!" We shouldn't censor "bad writing" - if you don't like, don't read.

I love "Goblins"! It's a fantastic webcomic with an absolutely massive amount of heart. Also, FYI: It's winning the contest thing currently by a little less than a hundred votes :D

I had a discussion with my sister about this one. Apparently she, one of my (female) cousins, and my dad (!) all feel the same way. She (my sister) called me an asshole. It hurt; this whole thing hurts. The world is starting to hurt.

Thank you for that - it's not really talked about here, because it's more a criticism of feminism than a men's Rights issue, but the strict gender dichotomy perpetuated by modern feminism is really harmful to transpeople, asexuals, and others. Ugh.

Thank you, cockpuncher. And yes, MLP being focused on female characters and revolves around female characters isn't inherently sexist. It's the fact that the male characters, when they appear, are either unintelligent, pitiful, or otherwise less than the female characters. If the genders were reversed, it wouldn't be appropriate.

There are a dozen things I could say to you - but first: Think of Hilary Clinton and how much shit people say about her appearance when nothing even close to that kind of scrutiny happened to Bill Who the hell said what about Hill's personal style? No one and nothing, really. And who gives a damn about appearance? No body and no how.

I'm lucky enough to be both Bi & have a sane, wonderful girlfriend who does things like insist on paying for meals and such. If I didn't have her, I'd be really tempted to tell my [religious, Jewish] family to stuff it an date a man. Fucking family pressures.

Then I think your usage needs to either be: 1. perpetually clarified or 2. linked to a different word. The term "Patriarchy" has so much embedded meaning beyond how you're trying to use it that it requires a differentiation.

She reportedly wanted children, like, immediately, and even secretly stopped taking birth control pills without telling her boyfriend in an attempt to get herself accidentally on purpose pregnant (which is the first odd thing about the story, since I've never once met a 21-year-old college girl who has been just dying to be pumped full of babyjuice, but I digress) Sounds, interestingly enough, like one of my cousins. So, yea, Jezebel. It can happen. ಠ_ಠ

Some on the right have pointed a finger at an overly feminized education establishment, accusing the schools of waging a “war against boys” by rewarding girly cooperative virtues like organization, diligence, rule-following, and teamwork at the expense of things at which boys have traditionally excelled — fighting, clowning around, shirking their work, and disrupting class ಠ_ಠ

Researchers have found that many non-working men spend much of their free time in “leisure activities and sleep.” Non-working women, by contrast, spend much of their free time in child care and housework Source in article? Nope. Didn't think so. It's either a blatant attmept to get us to buy her book The Richer Sex - which is bad by itself - or it's bullshit. Do we have, by reading this article, any way of knowing? No. ಠ_ಠ

Can't we just agree that the current government and status quo, well, sucks? It does. Both sides are terrible, sometimes for the same reason (pushing greater military involvement in foreign countries and leaving them shittier than we started, to use the most obvious and often-quoted example) and sometimes for different reasons (do I really need a list?). Let's forget the two-party divide crap and work together, in a bipartisan fashion (or a post-partisan fashion?) and try to fix the systemic pro…
