I think the problem with the term is that it puts a gender on being condescending, as if it is an inherently male act. It is an easy way to win the argument because you have turned condescending into a male problem. A man cannot reason against or argue that he was not being condescending, because he is a man and is inherently unable to recognise it.

As said earlier, the post by itself is already bad, but the fact that nobody calls it out is even worse. Even if this is not a feminist talking, then other feminist are not debating it or calling out how misandristic this is.

There is definitely an argument to be made for the draft to be abolished for all genders. It is, however, not a widely accepted view. Otherwise, it would have been abolished allready. Seeing as this view is not widely shared and has not been put into action, it feels to me that a gender equal draft is fair. At least till we actually decide to do away with the draft entirely.

I get your argument! Thank you for engaging! I do feel accepting physical differences between men and women makes senses and does not have to lead to your example. In my view, men would be indeed viewed as stronger and seeing men work in strength related industries would be more common and okay. We would however have to fight tooth and nail to prevent social/ cultural norms as in your examples. Just because men in general are stronger then women does not say anything about an individual or cause…

Hey! I really appreciate a woman making the effort to make a post about this! As a very left guy I have felt pretty disillusioned with the attitude of a lot of feminists to issues men face. It feels as you mention in your post, being a man means you deserve nothing. If I can ask, what made you write this specifically? Was there a specific event or a larger accumulation of events?

1) universal draft isn't in any way a necessary step before draft abolition (all countries who abolised the draft went this route). Draft abolition and universal proceed from different worldviews. UD stems from a narrow understanding of equality as "treating everyone the same" while DA stems from a deeper understanding of men's issues and also as opposition to militarization. I understand your position of DA, however I do not think it is universally agreed upon. I could imagine arguments to keep…

I think the most important part is that we allow both masculinity and femininity to change and evolve. We have seen a lot of that happen for women because society gave them space. Men need to get the same space to allow us to grow.

I get what you are going for, and on the one hand, I agree. It is weird to make the proclamation at birth. "You have a penis. Henceforth, you shall enjoy cars, cheap beer, and have a need to comment on ones skills to cook burgers." However, we also have to acknowledge that men and women are different not just because we tell them to be, but because there are biological differences. We behave differently, develop different, think regulate, and bond differently. This is not all culture. It is also…

In hindsight I might have been a bit harsh there, I am not above criticism. But when asked about the ban they first told me it was because I was not commenting in good faith, then for being impolite. When I pointed out people cursed at me and where incredibly demeaning it switched to posting in a antagonising sub. And muted for 27 days.

Allthough I can understand the view on draft abolition, I feel it is hardly a universally agreed upon thing to strive for. I think that until a conclusion on the draft has been reached, universal drafts should be the way to go. Imagine if we would say men do not have to do household chores because we feel that we are biologically disadvantaged doing so and seeing as society is still not willing to enable employees to have a healthy work life balance men should not be put in the same oppressive p…

Its true that killing women makes population replacement harder than killing men all other things remaining equal. But, if the society whose population being replaced is inherently oppressive to women, then what stake do women have in that society surviving? The internal logic doesn't hold up. You know I could even just accept women stating that it would be physical unfair to be part of a draft, but then admit that genderroles and rights and privileges go right along responsibilities. Accept tha…

Further integration into a system that oppresses them is an issue? Again, if you're critical of capitalism in the way they seem to be then you have to recognise it oppresses everyone but the capitalist class so having men in the military is also a further integration with a system which oppresses them. They fail on the basis of internal consistency. It is very consistent when you consider men to be deserving of oppression.

Thank you for your comment, but I have respectfully disagree. But men do leave comments like that, like all the time lol, and are further encouraged by other men in the replies. It definitely depends on where you are on the Internet tho. It is not about the reach of the post, it is the fact that no one is pointing out, how messed up her comment is. Regardless if you feel the anti-draft argument is valid, the fact that this comment is not called out by the larg amount of other participants is shocking. Imagine a man commenting that women are less valuable for x , y ,z reason. You would be lit on fire before you could blink.

I don't think I have any scientific evidence to dispute your claim that women are less capable or have a damaging effect on other members. Mostly when speaking about a draft, conscripts would fullfill supportive positions and not necessarily combat roles. At least that is my understanding. That being said, if it is the case that women are less able to Physically participate in a military position, we should acknowledge this and act accordingly. The problem for most feminist is that acknowledging…

It is a pure zero sum game to them. Because women have been wronged before no one is allowed to steal their spotlight. Accept their narrative or be misogynists. I made a post about men having the right to walk away from unwanted pregnancies if the mother decides they want to keep the child.... the amount of comments telling men to keep it in their pants was insane... imagine telling a woman to keep her legs closed.

It also has a lot to do with interaction between men. Our current society idealises the strong independent man. This man is self relient, stoic, down to earth, keeps to himself and has no complicated issue to talk to anyone about and even if he has such issues he talks about it no one but toughens/fights it out. This ideal has led to men being unable to open up to eachother, it is allready bad not to live up to this ideal, worse to open up to a friend that does live up to this ideal ( he probabl…

I work in education and frequently check up on students doing internships in daycare. One of my students, big strong brawly guy went on to do an internship at a daycare that went amazing. The guy had such fun there and the staff loved him! I wonder if the moms felt the same and if he would ever truly have a shot at such a job.

well you are the one making the claim of "more funding for boys in education could help them catch up to girls" which is unsubstantiated to my knowledge. would this funding go to after school programs? combating misogyny? giving them better food options? additional tutoring programs just for boys? not saying that i expect such a breakdown, just saying that some people would want something like that before agreeing to funding. My background is not education, it's healthcare. Why don't you read it? I am getting around to it, reading takes time. I know that is hard for you to understand. I am here to learn about men's issues, mostly health. Some topics have been interesting and I did learn some things. I don't pick which posts go in my feed though. Sometimes the post just blames women for no reason. You are to shit on men that is clear. Perhaps do something with what you learn.

Then don't complain about getting insulted in the feminist subreddit? I'm not the one making a post about it. I'm just telling you that it's not ok. You're imagining things again that all women are radical feminists hating boys. Yet you come here? What are you looking for? Again, go and read a feminist book. They talk about raising sons better. Have you read that report you kep whining about? You left that plotline rather quickly? Not once have I 'bitched' about women having it harder. You made that up too. people are unconvinced that additional funding would help because there wasn't a plan given for that funding. i don't really think it's reasonable to expect some random person to have a funding breakdown of a social problem like this, but at the same time i don't think it's unreasonable that someone could want to have something more concrete before agreeing to increase funding for said issue Yet when pressed for an actual source to substantiate their claim I got mostly no deeper response then "i…

You guys have no arguments apart insults. Feminists have done a lot for women, you cannot take that away. Men are unhappy about it constantly on this sub. I am happy what you have done for women, you havent done shit for boys. Glad you stopped pretending. Women do most of the job raising sons. So yes they also have their share of blame in the 'patriarchy mindset' they want to change. Feminists talk about that a lot. What about doing something too! Perhaps highlight positive aspects about being a…

The question how children learn best is the golden question. Some say learning by watchign repeating, some say by active step by step problem solving, there are many theories which form is best. In my opinion boys are younger and want to use their knowledge sooner. Abstract assignments in a book are very far removed for them, I noticed them living up and paying attention when lessons become relevant to them in there here and now. They want to do

My point was purely if they would be okay with additional funding going to help boys falling behind. If that is cause for a indepth critical interogation instead of a resounding yes... I worry for the future of education, because if I would feel compelled to help any group that falls behind. Refusing to even entertain the thought of additional support because the problem is deeper then just education is mind boggeling.

It is not so much that it favours girls as that girls are suprisingly better able to adapt to basic school situations. Wheter it social adaptability or just earlier ability to adhere to rules or sit still, girls are able to do beter in classroom settings. This is only now becoming apparent and actually reveals how shitty this form of education has always been for boys that want to move and often learn better in a practical setting. It is just easier for girls to pay attention in class, not the g…
