Some guys also have the cash and don’t care at all. Find one guy like that and you don’t need to hop around. She’s a golddiger! And I’m a goldmine! For some people real problems are the ones they can’t solve with money. Having a happy and healthy marriage becomes 1000 times easier when you have money. Hell, it’s even easier to convince her to sign a pre-nupt if you are rich. Leverage.

Truth. I know I didn’t pick up on the signs. I was invested in the marriage fully. Life had taken a dip, as tends to happen from time to time, and it didn’t take long for her to decide she’d prefer a different reality. She quickly found one. And another. And another. Always climbing the tax bracket with each shift. Now she’s so far up there I can barely recognize her from when I met her.

Same. I thought we were in it together for the long haul, so I focused on the long term goals way more than the present. That was a mistake on my end. I also thought the love we felt for each other was guaranteed, something I didn’t need to worry about so long as I loved her and continued to care for her in loving ways through the day to day of ordinary life. That was my second mistake. Truth is that in our current society if a woman is very attractive she can pretty much “choose her own adventu…

This is what our once husbandly lives have become. Fucking hell... it’s all a joke.

I agree with what you’re saying. I had a good laugh with “u fukin pay me”. To a certain extent, that’s pretty much how the world works. But it also isn’t. Things aren’t black or white, and therein lies the challenge - deciphering reality. You are obviously very bitter with the way things turned out. That’s not healthy and it’s not justifiable. As you said, there were red flags you saw and ignored. You believed in something purer because you believed in the power of love, and dedication / loyalty…

I also only needed my wife to be happy. She was my everything. I showered her with attention and care, though I was very homely and didn’t mind to go out (like I said, having her by my side was enough). I thought this was the way a marriage was supposed to be. I didn’t see any danger in it. I realize now that codependency is bad for a relationship, but still... it does not deserve such a twisted response. And now my wife has entered an almost permanent state of manipulation. We’ve been separated…

See, that’s the thing. While I cannot say my wife was the most rational out of both of us, does it really matter? This marriage shit is risky as hell. You can be with someone for decades and then they pull of some crazy shit like that. Such madness seems to be more prevalent in women, though of course man have their own part to play in causing it to surface sometimes. But the absolute break from what being married means is what gets me. Why get married AT ALL if you’re gonna do that some day. Hu…

Indeed... only explanation I could come up with is denial and survival-induced selfishness... like something out of their control... labeling someone evil is easy... I think most evil acts can be explained and rationalized. My wife did unspeakable things. Too many of them. She’s still doing it, to some extent. Yet I’ve chosen to not see her as morally corrupt or hypocritical, just lost and confused herself as a result of the end of the marriage. I keep the door open to have her back in my life, …

Yep... this was us... Any hope in your opinion? Couples therapy + will to make it work? Dedication to self improvement and joint improvement? What about if after separation both spouses finally start seeing things clearer, adopting each other’s habits as a result, and then rejoining? Is there hope in your opinion? For what it’s worth, I’m 4 months into this journey... Being a husband was my identity and my wife and marriage was what was most precious to me. It gave me motivation everyday. I was …

I see. Similar to my wife in a way, though she did own up to wifely duties - she could be very childish with many adult dealings, but as far as being a wife she was exemplary, old-fashioned, and loved to be that way / was very proud of it. Anyway... she was always a short term kind of person and me a long term kind of person. She always tended to associate with people who were morally lacking, but were “fun”. She had many friends, but no “true” friends, really - all junkie losers who slowly drif…

You regret marrying her? But did you love her? Did you have a loving marriage, as far as what you felt?

Looks like perfection to me. If anything this has the potential to strengthen your connection, in my eyes anyway. You were true to the people you care about, including (and most importantly) to yourself! What you’re feeling there is your manipulative side (the “I Want to Win” side) telling you that you might have avoided risk by ignoring your previous agreement with the EX. The risk was real, it could have terminated your chances, but it didn’t, and now there is a reward.

That’s just the thing... we are all wild animals in the end... but we are also not. The concept is traditionally associated with mating / evolution, but in terms of the human condition theres are so many other variables that determine superiority. I certainly don’t measure my self worth / enjoyment of life by how many females I can impregnate. Hell, I don’t care if my genes spread and survive somehow into the future. However, knowing myself better, feeling ever more comfortable, safe and in cont…

I enjoyed your post. Nothing surprising here, but very interesting observations. I too have found myself to be the alpha in a variety of situations. Indeed being around people much younger than you is one truly great way to experience what it is like to be top-alpha. Such experiences have helped me to understand how to be more alpha under ordinary circumstances. Just knowing that you have it in you is a huge confidence boost in itself, but experiencing the system allows you to better replicate i…

No dude, he is saying he achieved some kind of alpha status in this specific circumstance. Alpha status is always relative because there will always be someone more alpha than you.

I woudn’t say I need “the hottest”, however definitely among the the top 15%. This kind of mindset contributed heavily towards destroying my marriage after my wife started gaining weight and couldn’t loose it. I regret it deeply. It’s not “wrong” so much as it is hurtful to you and perhaps others. It really is easier to live without such standards, but I know that I cannot change. If you want a hot girl you can keep, then you need to be a high value person yourself. Competition is ongoing even d…

I don’t smoke weed a lot, but weird shit like that is absurdly likely to happen to me when I do. It’s so weird. It makes me question if it’s just me being high or if there’s something actually happening.

See, single for 8 years and yet you’re still here on this subreddit. You haven’t overcome your trauma, rather the trauma is part of you. You’re still living your divorce. I’m not getting married without a prenup, but I do want to marry again. I loooved being married. Being a husband was my identity... it’s been tough loosing that... I want to be a husband again, though I have to work on myself a lot before that happens.

lol. I know... despite the wholesomess, I felt that shadowy feeling lurking behind as I read it. I think many of us become traumatized, jaded and cynical after the things we go through and the things we read here. While I’ve desired, fantasized and tried to get my STBXW back, i’m not sure of how it would turn out. In fact, I don’t know what I think about love anymore. I don’t know that I can ever reach a stage where I can love and be loved in a truly healthy and enduring manner. Maybe I’m too ea…

I’m surprised at all the positive responses in this thread. I mean, I feel the same, just thought I was in the minority. We are currently separated, and I keep wondering if I’ll ever be a husband again, to her or to someone else. Being married is amazing. Life as it should be lived. Problems? Arguments? Of course! But it is blissful nonetheless... I loved being a husband... now I don’t know who or what I am... I’m lonely and lost... abandoned...

I gave up today also. I realized I was being manipulated whilst made to believe the marriage could be saved. All she wanted was to come out on top. Saddest thing that could ever happen. I’m a sucker it seems, I still love her even though she said she doesn’t and doesn’t care for me anymore. She will now live with her choices and the consequences of her actions. Hope she is happy with her affair partner and all the drugs and parties she’s being engaging in. She gave up a loving husband and a cute…

So we live on knowing that we peaked, and carry on empty and unfulfilled lives till death knocks us out of our misery. No one truly gets over this, that’s the ugly truth, even though some try to show fake recovery by telling the world that they are now “slaying so much puss”. I’m a husband, my wife’s husband. This is my identity, and will always be.

I wasn’t co-dependent before I met her, but yes, I became that and so did she. I hear you, but I can’t move on. I’ve no choice but to try to get her back. I can’t not have her. I can’t have her be with another. I don’t want to live a lonely miserable life. I don’t want to live without the love we shared. I just don’t. Maybe some do move on, and even move on to better things.... but I see many here that are in complete self denial. Many. They haven’t moved on or found happiness again, they keep t…

You know, I’ve been through a lot of stuff, and I almost always kept my chin up. My life took a turn for the worst when I was a kid, and I faced it head on without blinking most times. I took pride in taking on the world “raw”. That changed when I met my wife. She didn’t have me by the balls, but I did open up my heart to her and became vulnerable. Nothing wrong with that, she did the same, and that is how we achieved blissful love - the last stage of a relationship.

She did try. She told me I was loosing her. I didn’t think it was to this extent. The writting was on the wall. She grew frustrated but couldn’t find the strength to leave me. While what she did was wrong, she did it because she felt trapped.

I’m sorry, but that’s not true. We went through a lot and she was a phenomenal wife and friend throughout. She accomplished everything we needed her to, and ever over-accomplished many times. She rose up to every challenge and, though I commended her for that and showed my appreciation, I did it the way I felt comfortable doing and not the way she wanted / needed. Thank you for your comment, however It’s not just about “pussy tingles”.

Your opening remark made me chuckle. Thank you. I’d love to go shooting but don’t own a gun where I live. Do people from this subreddit organize regional social get togethers? Is there such a thing? I was thinking about this today... Also, she’s not a crappy person. She was an amazing wife. I lost her because I neglected her. I didn’t see the writting on the wall. I let confort and peace of mind take over... it’s my fault...

How long ago was that? How much does it suck now? Did you ever regain the innocense, love and happyness that your wife provided? Do you still miss her? Sorry to poke your wound... Also, this isn’t even a glimpse of the panic attacks I have daily. I’m controlling myself a bit better now, but I was crying, crawling and convulsing during dissociative episodes that lasted for hours on end. The back of my brain hurting like hell, as if compressed. A very strange feeling. During these times I forget w…

Hey, thanks for the reply. I can feel the energy and optimism in you. However I’ve tasted from the sacred honey pot, opened pandoras box. I never was more comfortably me, more fulfilled than when she was by my side, in comparison to a life of much neglect and trauma. You know, the guys that don’t make it are not here to post their perspective. We can’t all make it. That’s the case for me, if I don’t succeed. Thank you for your reply. I need hope that this is fixable in order for me to get better. And I am a little more hopeful now... just, you know, studying strategies from internet gurus and spending all 20 hours I am awake trying to get progress. Maybe my hope is unfounded. Maybe I’m reading the signs wrong. I don’t know. Might lower my chances to think about that, though I am not at all looking to fool myself. Thanks for sharing your struggle. While I’m impressed by people who push on through, specially with kids, a house and so on, I don’t know that I could do it. I mean, I think that maybe my situation makes it harder actually. If I had kids, maybe I’d have a reason to keep on going and something that ties me back to the ex. Like, she can’t undo that, they are our kids. Not like my wife, who’s thinking of trading me in for some other man. It’s enough suicide fuel to think of them happy and together …

Thank you for the lengthy reply. Yeah, we all do fuck up don’t we. I felt like I won the lottery when I got her, now here I am, facing poverty again. I’m faking recovery because everyone says it will help get her back. I need to seduce her all over again, apparently. Its a complicated situation, but I’m powering through to the best of my ability. I’ve been eating more and today I exercised a bit, groomed my beard and was just as productive as I could’ve been. I even went out to an event that she…

I hear you... She’s sent me a couple of texts about random (mostly necessary) things. When I reply I am trying to communicate to her that I am super ok, doing well, finding my way. I do it because I read and watched multiple videos telling me that’s what I should do. I am also considering friends advice and from this subreddit as well. I’m doing all I can. However, the fact is I am the walking dead, stuck in this nightmare, desperate to wake up. I’ve lost 5kg in 5 days, because I’ve been forgett…

You’re still going through it. Most are “still going through it”. Another commenter the other day was bragging about his new young+hip apartment and having a 23 year old in his shower the night before. I asked if he missed his wife. He responded that he does and is always wondering “what is my dick doing inside this woman? Where is my wife?”. A whole bunch of others then commented they feel the same, even after so many years. I just don’t want that miserable existence. I posted online because I …

Lawyers are expensive and many (most?) insensitive to the emotions of a marriage. Although the marriage didn’t work, if you and your spouse still maintain a relationship of trust, then I say it is preferable to not involve lawyers if your finances are simple. If your finances are vast and complex, then a lawyer is probably not so much of an option, but a necessity.

Wow. I can’t say you are charming, but I am thankful for the reference you’ve provided - narcissist love bombing. Holy hell, though it wasn’t all in ill intent, this fits almost perfectly for both me and her. Our relationship did develop quickly, it was super intense. She asked me to marry her the night we met (half-jokingly. She was just expressing that she wanted to be with me forever). She missed me dearly all the time. And when it ceased, it ceased. And I am the codependent who had a hard ti…

I just mean that the post gives me kind of a trashy vibe - I guess because of the drugs - but in fact we teamed up and built a beautiful life together. We overcame a lot and we both made a lot of sacrifices. My wife was an amazing wife, she went to great lengths to take care of me. Granted she’d made many bad decisions before we met, but then she put it all behind and just incorporated being married. We couldn’t stay away from each other. You know, that’s what I thought, that there was no use in stopping the affair from happening. There were already so much evil manipulation, lies and drugs... what was the use of telling her not to go? If she knew how I know, she’d just change tactics, suspend my access to her messages or message through somewhere else - like snapchat or something. I know that my short post painted her like some kind of cheap whore, but that’s not it at all. She’s wonderful and sweet, the drugs and cheating don’t…
