That makes a lot more sense.

Wait. How is a sorority girl lower status than a drug dealer from a poor family? That's near the bottom of the socioeconomic totem pole.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/11/22 06:55 PM

Whose population? Worldwide population?
/r/PurplePillDebate24/11/22 11:13 PM

Yes. It's true. No "leftists" get married, like... ever.
/r/PurplePillDebate24/11/22 11:11 PM

Primitive man had the institution of marriage? Care to provide evidence for that?
/r/PurplePillDebate19/11/22 09:07 PM

The duration of time that something has been in existence is not an argument for its being biological.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/11/22 03:51 AM
3

That simply isn't accurate. Where in biology do you see the basis for a legal contract? Again, what you mean is something like "wide-spread cultural phenomenon." Just because something occurs across societies over time doesn't make it a part of biology, any more than having a driving license is part of biology.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/11/22 06:29 PM

How am I changing the subject? You said "societal construct," and I explained what that actually means. It isn't my fault if you don't know the difference between marriage and two people who are in a nebulous "relationship" of some kind.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/11/22 06:23 PM
5

Actually, it is. It's a ceremonial and formal contract between two people that has legal effect. Everything about that is socially constructed. A social construct is simply something that has been created by humans and operates within a given society. Marriage does not exist outside of this definition - what you mean is something like "cohabitation."
/r/PurplePillDebate18/11/22 03:37 PM

I'm not surprised that it's getting more common, although rates still vary depending on social status. I don't think it's necessarily desirable for the majority of people who want kids. (I don't count divorced/separated couples as 'single parents') Of course, this only matters for people who want kids and the financial perks/symbolism that marriage offers. That's probably not the majority of people nowadays.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/11/22 02:42 PM

Right?? It's incredibly self-deprecating.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/11/22 02:27 PM

Marriage today is mostly symbolic (showing a stronger commitment to someone/the relationship), and/or for the purpose of having children. I don't think the people who plan on having kids will be abandoning marriage anytime soon, mostly because there are benefits for families (socially and financially). Also, some people are just traditional like that. I agree that it's completely societal, however, although most things that humans do are.

That's preferences for women who travel outside their country of origin to find sexual companionship (i.e. not the most attractive bunch). It's hardly indicative of an ethnic preference among European women in general.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/11/22 10:34 PM
1

Do you have sources for your claims of ethnic preference? It sounds anecdotal.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/11/22 07:11 PM
2

True, but then I think what you mean by "natural" is more like "the most common type." Most people are naturally heterosexual, for example. I also wonder if our expectations of "monogamy" aren't a little odd. By that I mean that what we describe as a monogamous relationship nowadays is wrapped up in many social connotations that I'd argue are not essential to the idea (some of your specific reasons seem to fall under this category). Of course, it's hard to say what is an actual preference and wh…
/r/PurplePillDebate14/11/22 04:19 AM
1

What I mean is that, to my mind, it seems reasonable to suppose that there may be monogamous individuals within a given society that we'd classify largely non-monogamous as a whole--if surveyed.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/11/22 03:35 AM
1

Why so, though? If I'm attracted to blondes, but you can't stand them, why should that be an impediment to our dating (assuming that I'm exclusively interested in you)?
/r/PurplePillDebate14/11/22 03:32 AM
2

What makes you think that monogamy cannot be innate to individuals, but not cultures?
/r/PurplePillDebate14/11/22 01:04 AM

Humans might be primates, but you can't look at modern apes and generalize from that basis. That's like saying we can tell what crocodile behaviour should be like by studying birds.

What about a man who is attracted to men, but has never dated one? Also, what exactly do you think "gay sex" consists of?
/r/PurplePillDebate14/11/22 12:51 AM

They're implying that women as a whole should "be more reasonable" and sleep with them. That's basically it.

I'm a man and I wear subtle makeup. Never once have I ever been "treated weird" as a result. In fact, most people can't tell that I have it on, and women find it hot that I take care of my appearance.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/11/22 11:52 PM

There are a lot of subtle advantages gained by looking healthier, being better groomed, and being sharper than the opposition. Sexual attraction is just part of it.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/11/22 11:50 PM

Even easier: use a lip mask. Many of them are gently exfoliating and can double as a daily lip balm.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/11/22 11:47 PM
2

That's the fantasy version. So-called 'bad boys' more often than not actually are the 'competent men,' it's just that rebuffed Nice Guys can't accept their own inadequacy--so everyone that gets women must be an asshole that those good girlies will eventually lose interest in, and then she'll finally love the Nice Guy instead... lmao
/r/PurplePillDebate09/11/22 11:34 PM
8

I don't think that's so at all. Maybe there are fewer men who embody the bad boy archetype, but that doesn't mean that most of the rest are good men. Men can leave at any time we want. The fact that a lot of men are too cowardly to do so and get wrapped up in muh-pore-feewings is entirely their own fault.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/11/22 08:49 PM

No, it is not better. You are making up a reality in which everyone who has an unwanted pregnancy has that pregnancy by virtue of their own doing. In this timeline, people are raped. You cannot argue points of morality and personal responsibility and simultaneously disregard examples that make your argument problematic by virtue of statistical quantity. If you believe that all people should take responsibility for their actions, it follows that those who are not responsible for their actions sho…

At what rate does someone's circumstance become worthy of consideration to you, then?
/r/PurplePillDebate01/11/22 08:35 PM

It is not an emotional assessment. Your comment was objectively biased with regard to sex and assigned moral condemnation to the act of sex ("degenerate"). Nothing I said was emotional, but your comment clearly was.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/11/22 08:29 PM

Rational discussion about people's rights cannot exist without consideration for "statistical anomalies." The aggregate of the exceptional cases is weighty enough that they all warrant inclusion.

Ad hominem refers to the person, not the substance of their words. Of course, if you feel that you're a sexist or ignorant person then that's another matter.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/11/22 07:30 PM

Where did I claim that they were a rule? You're the one making sweeping generalizations.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/11/22 07:29 PM

/r/PurplePillDebate01/11/22 02:05 PM

Ah, a sexist AND ignorant comment. What a delightful combo.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/11/22 02:04 PM

Success is certainly attractive, but wealth is not a measure of success--only an indication of it. All people are attracted to wealth, but it's incredibly naive to assume that wealth alone confers attractiveness in the absence of its presumptive distribution. If success is an element, then money is its solid state.

The trouble is that you're reading Emerson and calling it "philosophy."
/r/PurplePillDebate18/10/22 04:17 AM

See, I don't buy this argument. Why would rich men who date hot women, when the relationship is clearly transactional, have no issues in this regard when men who go brothels supposedly would? They're both transactional sex arrangements, in my view. You'd have to argue that most men who pursue sex want more than just sex. I think a lot of men would disagree.

It's ironic that you talk about liberating oneself from restrictive, external influences when you're out here perpetuating the same.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/10/22 04:06 AM

I'm confused. Do these women not want children? If so, they have the choice to terminate the pregnancy. No one is forcing women to have kids if they're pregnant except for backwards countries and religious nuts. Oh, and the USA.

Trust is not simply being open and honest. Trust is not knowing for sure whether someone is going to do X thing, but believing in them that they won't. Trust is established by knowing the person, not by trying to head them off at every turn like a control-freak. You do not understand risk. Risk is something quantifiable--how can you quantify the possibility of someone possibly, maybe cheating on you? You cannot, because people cheat for reasons, some of which might not be applicable to all situa…
/r/PurplePillDebate17/10/22 12:58 AM
2

I can, of course, imagine that happening. But that gives me absolutely no indication that it will happen for any specific person. Cheating is very common. Does that mean we shouldn't date people because they may cheat? No, it means we should be circumspect about those we date. Not everyone cheats, and not everyone wants to travel to cheat.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/10/22 12:16 AM
6

People's private lives never need to be transparent, unless they want them to be. I never let any of my partners rifle through my private conversations, and I don't care to see theirs. It's a display of trust. You aren't mitigating risk--you're trying to mitigate uncertainty. There is nothing inherently risky in one's partner meeting an old friend who happens to be a man (and was probably a friend before you were dating). The uncertainty in that scenario, however, is whether they would cheat on …
/r/PurplePillDebate17/10/22 12:11 AM

Cheating happens all over the place. Wanting loyalty doesn't mean restricting harmless activities because you think they afford opportunities for cheating. Someone who wants to be unfaithful will find a way.

The way that women express interest is often less direct than men, whether by social norm or otherwise. Lots of men are completely oblivious to this.

Principles, yes--ones that I've decided, on my own, were of use to me and made sense. Not anything to do with moral ideas or social conventions.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/10/22 10:46 PM
5

I agree that neither men nor women are just animals, but I don't think that popular morality has to factor into it at all. If a woman is judged 'sexually immoral,' that's just a made-up category and the labels that go along with it are spurious. It makes sense to me that we can judge the actions of others as predatory. Deciding that any one sexuality is inherently predatory doesn't, and I don't buy the moral labels of others as a benchmark for what is and isn't permissible sexually. That's how w…

Because one thing that I believe in is sticking to my word. So although I've had experience with unfaithful people in the past, it was never me. If I decide I like someone enough to be with them alone, I do so.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/10/22 09:12 PM

As much as I agree with your rockstar example, your penultimate sentence is ridiculous. Male sexuality doesn't need to be controlled by laws and society any more than female sexuality does. Both need to have respect for other people and obey the law.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/10/22 09:05 PM

Wait, so you think people should be able to read all your private conversations on your phone? IMO, that's really suspicious behaviour. Without exception, the only men I've ever seen complain about male friends and 'girls nights out' have been men who either can't compete with other options, or are afraid that they can't. Either way, the problem is not a disrespectful partner, but an insecure one.

What do you consider "suspicious and potentially disrespectful behaviours?"
/r/PurplePillDebate16/10/22 04:57 PM

That sounds an awful lot like the rhetoric I see on this very sub regarding virgin women and promiscuous ones. I think people can have whatever preferences they want, men and women. What I take issue with is when people ascribe moral qualities to things that aren't moral traits. That study pointed out perceptions of neurosis, extraversion, being open to new experiences, being prototypical, attractiveness, sexual activeness, skill in bed, and having more sexual partners. None of these things are …

What does the perception of having more sexual partners have to do with the moral concepts of good and evil? Perhaps it is you who are shaming others for their totally valid body preferences.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/09/22 08:38 PM
1

It isn't healthy to obsess over the opinions of others to the point that one develops a neurosis. It indicates that a change of mindset is needed. No one is entitled to a world without preferences. Not all of us measure up to ideals.

Do you have evidence that "women" gave "men" this disorder? Which women? How did they "give" a disorder? Was it a big conspiracy? Do all men experience this, or just some? Are there other possible explanations? More importantly, do any medical professionals agree that women inflicted men with penis anxiety, or would they tell you that you're talking out of your ass?

Is it necessary for you to know the exact decimal percentage of how likely you are to "drop dead" of a heart attack in your 20s before it doesn't bother you? There is a consensus that false rape accusations are rare. Fear of uncertainty is precisely the type of fear that is invalid, because it obscures one's perception of risk.

That isn't how people frame it on here. Phrases like "better men" or "more intelligent" are thrown around in reference to nice guys, as though the men who actually get women can't possibly be intelligent or worthwhile themselves. It's simply a mechanism by which they can assume that they possess some quality that other men must lack, so that they don't have to feel inadequate. But that's precisely why niceness isn't an attractive trait on its own: it's inadequate. Kindness can be an attractive q…

I don't know. I've had more men try to debate me about the nice-guy phenomenon on this sub than I ever have in real life. Nowhere else have I encountered the idea that nice guys who can't get laid are morally superior beings.

The irony of your observation about emotionally-charged language is that saying "men are sexist" doesn't make any numerical claims. It is you who read such claims into the language, on the basis of pure emotion. If only 10% of men are sexist, it is still accurate to say that men are sexist, precisely because "men" is a collective noun - not a universal one. Testosterone levels, for one thing. Women are naturally attracted to men who display physical prowess, martial capability, and a healthy body. That doesn't necessarily overlap with evil tendencies. I'm in Canada and I like the cold, although the salaries do indeed suck. I'm not sure that immigration matters as much as you think. "Ultra" simply means an extreme - the furthest point of an idea. If masculinity is not toxic (and I don't believe that it is toxic), then embodying the extreme version of that expression shouldn't be inherently toxic, though it may be unwelcome or suffocating. If that extreme is toxic, then perhaps it (i.e. the description of men being "worthless and disposable") is not ultra masculinity.

Eastern European women are wise to the whole "sexual tourism" thing, and they often come with a culture shock: many of them expect to have their expenses paid by a man (not just dates, expenses), etc.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/22 05:17 PM
1

That isn't so. People want to latch on to others' success. You'll never have so many friends, false and true, as when you're a driven and successful person. I don't think that being courteous to others lowers your own value, but if one's version of 'kindness' is never to place the needs of themselves and their loved ones over that of those people, then I'd argue that such an inaction is not just self-debasing, but also ethically wrong.

But we are also not talking about whether overweight women are acceptable. We are talking about whether they're average to the same extent that the average man can be considered average. Just like you wouldn't ever consider an overweight woman to be your version of acceptable, many women don't consider balding, boring, and somewhat ugly men to be in their dating pool either.

I agree with all of that first part, which is basically what I was saying too. There are better ways than self-deprecation to convey interest. Also, too much repetition leads to a loss of meaning, like saying "I love you" to everyone you meet - i.e. attention and commitment shouldn't be given willy-nilly. I find it varies with social set. Most women I know would definitely approach a man, but they don't want to because they don't want to seem like they're too eager. They aren't trying to inflate…

I don't think anyone consciously does (hopefully), but it makes perfect sense in action. Women don't like it when men will text them something like "I can't believe I matched with you because you're so beautiful" (an actual quote) because it's a turn-off that this guy is debasing himself so readily. Similarly, men don't actually like it when women throw themselves at them (this can be debated by lonely Nice Guys on the internet forever, but it's true and it's the reason women mostly don't approa…

The second study you linked controlled for physical attractiveness, general health, etc., and then only concluded that more aggressive men got more partners. It says nothing about misogyny in these men. This is just another "poor, hurt Nice Guy is good... mean women are the problem" post.

The men who will offer relationships too easily are devaluing their commitment, so of course you end up rejecting them. But it takes two to tango, and commitment isn't going to be had unless both parties agree independently. Both "men gatekeep commitment" and "women gatekeep sex" are silly ideas, though. Someone only gains control over you when they have something you need or desire and you allow them to do so. If men on here don't want to feel miserable about dating, they should probably stop b…

I'm not sure what height and bodyweight Brad Pitt is in that movie, but please re-read where I said "provided that physique comes naturally to him." The key thing to avoid, IMO, is looking like your body took too much effort to attain - it should look natural and healthy.

Because in that movie he's not far off from the physique that most women find attractive, by and large. The majority of women I've met would prefer leanness, v-shaped torso, and nice shoulders on any man - provided that the physique comes naturally to him.
/r/PurplePillDebate31/08/22 01:51 PM

My point is that everyone wants an attractive partner, and most women are about as shallow as most men. It isn't shallow to want a woman who you think is pretty, nor is to shallow to desire a man who seems handsome to you. It's simply human.

So your premise is that TRP is based upon criticism of women. In what respects? Because if you're just going to rant about feminism is the worst thing ever, then it's pretty easy to see why most people would be dismissive of the "movement." Arguing that women's rights are a bad thing and that women are all sluts and liars is patently misogynistic.

I get what you're trying to say, but I still don't think it's optimal. My point of view is that the best relationships are those that happen organically - it should be easy. If you're struggling too much to get someone to like you, or you have to play games, the juice probably isn't worth the squeeze.
/r/PurplePillDebate30/08/22 03:20 PM

Female children can also perpetuate it. I'm pretty sure there's consensus that participating in oppressive social structures comes down to upbringing, not the sex of either child.
/r/PurplePillDebate30/08/22 03:16 PM
3

Social circles aren't just about friends and hobbies. They're also your socio-economic background, shared values and tastes between people, social class, profession, etc. Whether you're physically attractive to a woman is always going to matter - regardless of what kind of 'approach' you take. That doesn't mean that social circles are outdated.
/r/PurplePillDebate30/08/22 02:50 PM
1

But that whole mentality of playing the long game to wear down a woman's initial perception of you and specifically not being direct with your feelings and actions is inherently creepy. If women are interested in you, they'll let you know and you can act on those signals. This kind of backdoor game doesn't work very well, and women are by and large disgusted with men who act like friends for months and then reveal it was all a ploy to get into her pants after a while.

Buddy, I'm not being vague. I specifically stated: how do you support the idea that traits need to be evenly directed at everyone? I'm not sure how much clearer I can make that without speaking another language. Do you treat everyone that you meet with politeness, or do you automatically assume that you'll have to bash their heads in at some point? If the former, how does that square with your ideas of masculine aggression?
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/22 08:16 PM
3

I should like to know how you support that proposition. i.e. that traits are supposed to be evenly directed at everyone. Being dominant and/or a protector in a relationship is not the same as being at the ready to "fuck up" everyone else. Your view of masculine traits, as presented, seems to lack a fair bit of nuance. I'm offering you the opportunity to clear that up.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/22 08:03 PM
5

No, you didn't explain how they are contradictory - you simply said that traits which are unevenly directed are contradictory, which is a statement that relies upon the assumption that traits should be evenly directed. I should like to know how you support that supposition. My point of view is that masculine aggression is not contradictory simply because it can be controlled (and it CAN be controlled).
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/22 07:43 PM
2

Not everyone who controls things thinks the same way. There are a lot of ways to be in the world. More to the point: why are you living a life so beholden to other people? Why not live a life on your own terms, where you control whether you get friends or a job?
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/22 07:36 PM
2

Not really. That depends on what you mean by 'failing' in that sense. Did you fail at flirting by being awkward and unsexy? Not creepy if it was welcome and you were simply bad at it. But it will be awkward. Did you fail by making unwarranted advances and trying to force a sexual encounter? That's fucking creepy.

If I put you in a room with a hundred men, only one of them can be a ‘top one percent man’. You might think that you can be that man, but so do ten others. /r/PurplePillDebate29/08/22 06:23 PM
10

Dude, if you think flirting is exactly the same behaviour as 'being nice,' then it isn't the women who have the social problem. To other men: please don't just try to kiss women randomly to see if they like you or "sexualize" the conversation when it's unwarranted. That's the very definition of creepy.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/22 06:20 PM
3

That's... why they said to work to who you want to be, if you don't like who you currently are. If you think you like who you are, but feel the need to change it because of other people, then maybe you don't like you as much as you thought.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/22 06:08 PM
1

How are those contradictory traits? You are the one assuming that these traits must be applied indiscriminately. Most socially competent men/women recognize that these traits can be exhibited differently with regard to different people.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/22 06:06 PM

It is the fact that there are requirements at all, that there is nowhere the belief that a man can define for himself how to be so long as it is not harming anyone else. This isn't true across the board. A lot of men in those circles are looking for someone who's in their social class and makes an appreciable amount of money compared to them. The money isn't the point: the shared values, shared tastes, and shared mannerisms are.

I understand that, but not every woman is going to perceive true kindness the same way as being a Nice Guy. Some will, and that's their loss. In a lasting relationship, a man can't simply hope to keep things going the same way as in the initial stages. He has to combine assertive, attractive traits with kindness or the relationship isn't going to last. The trick is being able not to go too far and misinterpret what's needed.

/r/PurplePillDebate26/08/22 02:37 PM

I agree. A man like that deserves what he doesn't get. But this is why I don't think that has anything to do with being a kind person: if he were truly nice, he'd be nice to himself first. Otherwise it's all externalized for validation, and therefore inherently manipulative and self-degrading. Nobody wants that. I don't think a man should ever stop being a kind person to the woman in his life, but he certainly should not be constantly trying to gain what he already has out of insecurity either.

No, what's wrong is that you might not understand the word that is being said. When women say they want kind men, and men become supplicating and clingy 'nice guys,' that's an issue of interpretation. Other men have no difficulty understanding this. They tend to do just fine in dating.

The difficulty with those kinds of surveys is that it's hard to know what the respondents are thinking. If they're asked "Is it sexual harassment when a man asks to buy you a drink," many might instantly think of the types of men who usually make that offer, and respond accordingly. That's very different from being socially savvy enough that you can get out of your comfort zone, ask someone out, and be successful. When he can't get one and complains that he deserves one, he's complaining about a lack of sex and thinks he's entitled to it.

So many PPD posters will scream 'just world fallacy!' at any attempt to make them reconcile their views of the world with their own shortcomings. I realize that. I'll I'm saying is that a social Darwinian perspective is not necessarily one that advocates for sexual violence. I completely disagree with your characterization of smaller tribes, though. We might be able to find a few modern tribes and villages that operate this way, but historical tribal societies were absolutely not any less hierarchical and competitive over resources. Cooperation on some levels does not imply conflict avoidance - if anything we have always been more bloodth…

No, under this theory taking anyone by force is something that weaker members have to resort to because they cannot convince someone to tolerate them. That isn't a justification for it.

Yes, I did answer it. Being self-deprecating to that extent, no matter if it's a sincere belief, is unattractive. The OP backed me up on this - she was turned off by his lack of confidence. How do I not have evidence for low self-esteem? The guy literally said "I can't believe we matched because you're so beautiful." Please tell me how that isn't an inherent statement about being 'lower' than the recipient of that message? Men who act this way think they're being nice and can't understand why it…

Right, I already said that I disagreed with that 80% figure. But even a 25% figure of all fatalities is a big chunk, and it doesn't encompass all the other ways men could die, infertility rates, being unsuccessful in finding a mate, etc. It's likely higher. My main point is contending with the implication that people in the past were organized into cooperative societies that avoided wars of extermination. There are some anthropologists who believe this, but IMO that theory is based upon shaky ar…

I didn't call him a "pathetic doormat," you did that all by yourself. I said it was slightly pathetic, in the sense of invoking a kind of pathos - you kinda like sorry for the guy. I can't believe I'm making the more "red pilled" argument here, but self-deprecation and lack of self-esteem are supplicating traits that are never a turn-on. You might consider it a nice comment, but look at the results.

While I don't agree with the 80% 20% theory, humans have always been a violent species. Wars of extermination used to be much commoner, and there is little indication that this is only a 'modern' phenomenon. We can trace this very easily nowadays with things like Y-DNA mapping and see the drop-off in a population (i.e. multiple mtDNA heritages combined with fewer Y-DNA ones). The 'Yamnaya' migrations into Europe, for example.

It is not circular logic. It's possible, for example, that a woman might feel this same insecurity as a result of past trauma or because she sees little distinction between men and women when it comes to cheating. But she does not. You admitted that she feels this way because of the man's bisexuality - that his sexuality somehow exposes him to greater opportunities to cheat, never mind the question of whether he is, individually, someone predisposed to cheat or someone with greater sexual needs.…

If your question is applied to some hypothetical reason, which has not yet been produced, for why women wouldn't want to date a bisexual man that has nothing to do with his bisexuality, then yes - it would be unfair to label that biphobic. The reason you have supplied, however, is not one of these. It is not a stretch to say that the basis for an insecurity regarding a bisexual man's opportunities to cheat project possibilities onto him that are intrinsically tied up to his sexuality. It's because they also don't realize, or don't believe, that there are other factors at play for women's attraction. It shatters their previously-held assumptions about how the world should work and how other people think, and it's much easier to just hate the thing that hurts rather than come to grips with why they're alone.

I did address your question. You stated that you agreed with me when I said: if the reason they don't want to date a man stems from misinformed ideas about the behaviours of bisexuals and that it would be phobic. The very fact of a man's bisexuality is the only basis for reasoning that there would be "double the threat" to the relationship, wouldn't you agree? That is, such a double-threat would not exist were the man straight. Therefore, the insecurity that plagues this no doubt hypothetical wo…
/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/22 06:42 PM
1

The idea that a woman isn't going to enough for a man as a result of his bisexuality is the very definition of projection. And lest you think that this 'insecurity' exists apart from the man's bisexuality, ask yourself if it would be present were the man straight. If the answer is no, then it's either phobia or, at the very least, a gross misunderstanding of bisexual men in general.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/22 06:33 PM
2

First you said "women treat bisexual men badly," then you said "they just don't want to date bi men." Given that lead up, I don't think it's unfair and unwarranted to assume that we're discussing a situation wherein a man's bisexuality has some bearing on whether or not a woman wants to date him. The question is: why is that even a topic of discussion, when it would be the exact same thing for her as dating a straight man?
/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/22 06:05 PM
1

I'm not making a claim. This is what women actually say about bisexual men - that they feel like they won't be enough for him or that they worry about straying as a result of his sexuality.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/22 06:02 PM
2

It is not usually due to internal insecurities, but a projection of supposed desires onto bisexual men (i.e. he won't be satisfied with just a woman, bisexual men aren't monogamous, etc). No one is saying that women have to date bisexual men, but if the reason they don't want to date a man stems from misinformed ideas about the behaviours of bisexuals, then it is phobic.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/22 05:23 PM
1

Most men have zero issues with bisexual women because they're still an "option" for that man in his head. No one actually should be threatened by them, of course. Being treated badly because of one's sexuality is due to phobia or hatred. Calling it insecurity is obfuscation.

I saw a great post about this on either the LGBT or Bisexual subreddit before. Basically, the attraction to men is assumed. Gay men doing their own thing is fine because they aren't competition for the other men over women, and men today are less likely to be paranoid about being called gay. By contrast, lesbians and bisexual women are now perceived as a threat regarding the "supply of females" because when they date women it's increasingly viewed as challenging the male hegemony in attractivene…

There is no such thing as a biological woman, because that's like saying 'biological fashion' or 'biological money.' Gender identities are the result of human interaction. I don't agree that a transwoman is any less of a woman than a biological female, no. Men/women are never used of animals, only of humans (because they're human social constructions). How is it that you supposedly understand the distinction between gender and sex and are simultaneously unable to apply it to humans? The fact that it has been used in the capacity you claim is not really relevant. Many, if not all, languages have the means to distinguish between gender and sex. I don't really care what actions you want to take. My point is that male promiscuity has a bearing on your choices, and it's not true that it isn't a problem for other men. This is precisely what I posted about in the Daily Chat thread. You guys (the ones making this argument) don't care to be desired at the level you end up at, but instead wish to live in some alternate reality wherein you don't have to put in significant effort and women will still value you as much as you admire your own self. Being insecure about a scenario that is 100% your problem is fine, but it's also not the fault of the woman.

Love, companionship, affection, and mutual support are all different in a relationship vs between friends. If you've never experienced any of that with an intimate partner before, then it's no wonder you value casual hookups more.

With steak you don't want it to overcook and lose all the juices, but you do want the fat and white bits to break down somewhat so that it gets tender. It's a delicate balance. Nothing more than medium-rare, as a general rule.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/08/22 03:36 AM

Avocado has a higher smoke point than olive oil, so I imagine not. But bacon fat is the best one to use for this job.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/08/22 03:12 AM

The ability to acquire resources without slaving away has been one of the defining features of superior masculinity, too. The very fact of a man's working hard and getting paid is woefully insufficient, as any casual glance through dating results can prove. People don't really care if you have a decent job if you're not measuring up in lots of other ways.

But how does that jive with a situation where the man is making less, but is still married? Again, the whole household would be taking a paycut if he decided he had to be the sole earner. I suppose that a 'woman's duty' is to stay at home and raise children instead of getting an education and having children later, right? I hope you realize that that isn't a natural law, but simply a class-based take on familial roles.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/08/22 01:29 AM

Since when did working some corporate job, or the level of one's salary, define a man's masculinity? How is it any less masculine to raise a son at home if your wife earns more anyway? You'd really expect their family to live on less simply to satisfy some dude's ego?

Are poor people being 'selected' for poordom by others? Or are they simply there because of circumstances outside of their control or bad choices? Your analogy is bad because relationships are not like financial circumstances. It isn't sexist reasoning, it's understanding different scales of average. If the average from 1-5 is 3 but the average from 3-6 is 4.5, you can't tell me that those two numbers deserve to exist in the same plane "because they're average." What you fail to realize is that …

They deserve to be desired at the level where they end up, no more and no less. If the average woman doesn't want the average man, perhaps that's because the average man sucks. I'm not upset at men who want something better for themselves either - I'm merely amused at the ones who think they're entitled to it when that's clearly not the case.

Ah yes, this old argument. I remember that I was going to make a post refuting such false assertions regarding sex drives, but I got caught up in actual real-life BS, so I never did. Remind me to get around to it tonight. Regardless, this (again) has nothing to do with the relative judgements placed upon men and women's promiscuity. Greater and more frequent efforts to gain attention are not the same as being successful in those efforts, and placing moral condemnation on women simply because of …
/r/PurplePillDebate16/08/22 08:09 PM
5

Your scenario actually has nothing to do with sex drives, though, but rather a moral observation placed upon the ability to gain vs the willingness to indulge. It might even be extended to a jealous view of many women's inherent ability to gain vs many men's inherent lack of ability to indulge. It's a form of sexual Puritanism, and not at all a universal theme.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/08/22 08:02 PM

I'll agree that one kind of sex isn't the only way, and people should absolutely know/learn more about clitoral stimulation. I just disagree with the notion that PIV orgasms are rare due to some fluke of female anatomy or some fault on the part of women in particular. More often than not, PIV orgasms are possible but not reached, and the onus is on the man in that case to ensure he knows enough about other things to get the woman off properly.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/08/22 07:57 PM

They don't want women to love them at the level they deserve, they want to live in another reality wherein they are more desired. Unfortunately for them, they don't currently have the ability to influence other people's preferences. So there are really only two natural choices: improve somehow or give up entirely. Those complaints are the result of trying to find a third way. That and downvotes.

I understand that there is scientific debate about where the g-spot lines up with the clitourethrovaginal complex, but the idea that the g-spot is only an extension of the clitoris is hardly settled fact. Women who have g-spot orgasms also report a difference in feeling between those and clitoral orgasms. So no, I'm not convinced. What this seems to come down to, like a lot of other things, is the inability of many men to satisfy their lovers rather than a faulty expectation on the part of women…
/r/PurplePillDebate16/08/22 07:36 PM

As I suspected, not a single peer-reviewed, scientific study. Just a bunch of opinion pieces and jumping to correlated conclusions. Studies that indicate a dopamine response to the brain when watching porn are not surprising: you have a dopamine response when doing anything pleasurable. That hardly means that all pleasurable activities are highly addicting and ruining your relationships.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/08/22 07:14 PM
1

So you believe that the only way a woman can orgasm is through clitoral stimulation? I have to disagree with that.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/08/22 07:08 PM
5

What absolute nonsense. Can you show me a single peer-reviewed and reputable study that confirms your theory? Or perhaps you're a researcher with original findings? By that "logic," the vast majority of humanity is voyeuristic. If that's so, turning "the sexual act into an act of voyeurism" is hardly the damning observation you expect it to be.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/08/22 06:34 PM
1

The reason it isn't the norm has nothing to do with the woman and everything to do with the man. Hitting the g-spot is different from clitoral stimulation and (surprise surprise!) is easier with a larger penis. Guess what most men lack?

One of my favourite excuses they try to trot out in response to this is that women are simply taking advantage of these 'poor men' who are doomed by their biological urges to throw themselves at every woman they see or perish. It's an excuse I'll take great joy refuting in a new thread I'm posting shortly (either later today or tomorrow).

/r/PurplePillDebate20/07/22 08:39 PM

I'll address these points later when I make the big post, but for now I'll just say that I'm more inclined to trust the opinion of associate professors and the results of scientific studies than the anecdotal experiences of four random women, whose increased sex drives may or may not have anything to do with testosterone therapy.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/07/22 07:58 PM
4

It really isn't. It's a lack of self-control and self-respect, not biology, that precipitates men into their current thinking surrounding their own sexuality. The idea that men need sex more than women, or that men are forced by biological urges into certain behavioural patterns because of their higher sex drive instead of societal factors, is scientific gibberish.

Sexual desire can be operationalized as the motivation to seek out solitary or partnered sexual experiences. Wouldn't it only be changing yourself if you already had ideas about how a partner ought to behave? I can see how that applies to certain things within the relationship, but I think that insecurities are not often relevant to those discussions. It's far healthier, in my view, to compromise by accepting each other's quirks and habits rather than trying to change them for both parties.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/07/22 09:17 PM

It used to be our society, not that long ago (historically speaking). Both men and women who never married and just slept around were shamed - women more so than men, but the social image of a 'rake' or 'permanent bachelor' wasn't a pleasant one. If it happened at all, it was kept private.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/07/22 08:59 PM

That's the whole point. Her going out half naked is a personal boundary, for her. Nobody has any right to tell other people how to dress (except for professional settings). If people can't handle their partners being independent, they're probably not mature enough for serious relationships.

The best way for a woman to lock down a good partner is with a six-inch thick steel doorframe, welded in place, and an iron crossbar. The best way for men to get more access to sex is to make sex more accessible by eliminating physical barriers like underwear and pants from men's bodies.

Chemistry is that feeling where you can sit across a table from someone and just look at each other and not have to say a word, but you can both tell what the other is thinking/feeling and you're both happy like that. The word 'spontaneous' does not mean 'higher.' It means occurring without premeditation or external stimulus. A spontaneous sex drive isn't even properly measured by visual stimuli, as you try to argue, but is instead more akin to 'getting a random boner.' Here's an article talking about it more: https://www.thecut.com/2018/04/the-misunderstood-science-of-sexual-desire.html It is positively mediaeval to assert that women are some kind of non-sexual entities that simply react to men's greater sex…

I already linked those sources to you in another discussion. A spontaneous sex drive is simply an expression of male libido, not an accurate measurement of a female one. The fact that this paper specifically qualifies their measurement of sex drive in terms of 'strength of sexual motivation' means that it cannot be used as a source for judging women's libido levels. And if you actually understood what the study's terminology states, you'd understand that the authors don't do that either. TL;DR: …

An excellent example, seeing as quantum physics textbooks don't rely on Newtonian concepts. There's an example of how the field of science advances - theories and rules are relied upon until they are disproven or tweaked, and there's a lot more turnover in the sciences in that regard. Fields of science and psychology don't always perfectly overlap. A study that is 20 years old in a science field might as well be 2000 years old. It's clear from more recent studies on the role of hormones in the body that men and women's sex drives operate differently. Thus it would be unsurprising to find that a meta-analysis of sexual desire focused on a spontaneous expression of libido would find that men's expression of those desires are stronger, because it doesn't take into account respon…

Uh, sorry buddy... they do have a right to complain. As a guy, I've seen plenty of cringe-worthy, socially awkward, and just completely odd approaches by men in my lifetime. Everyone who is approached has a right to complain about that approach if it's creepy or cheesy. A lot of these other approaches do not, including the friend you mentioned.

Sure, you can't just fully trust someone right off the bat, but I believe that this list is of initial red flags for the most part. As in, red flag that she has lots of male friends in general, not only if she also lacks self-control.

What kind of satire do you think is too subtle? I'm just trying to picture a situation in which I wouldn't recognize that the satire is just that, and take it too seriously. If it's mistaken for serious critique then it's definitely less entertaining, for one thing.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/07/22 02:46 PM
2

Ok, perhaps that's reasonable. I still think it's an underlying trust issue on the part of concerned partner, though. The inescapable conclusion is that they either don't trust that their partner isn't keeping them around as options, or - and this one's my favourite - they believe their partner but think that their underlying nature will inevitably compel them to succumb to base desires (sounds so spicy and religious!).

I think we have different ideas of satire. Do they mean stand-up comedy or live satire of some kind? Written satire is much cleverer, and often deeper than it seems at first glance.

Would it be a red flag if you had mostly female friends, in that case? I struggle to understand why that should be so for either partner. The real problem is an issue of trust either way - you have to trust that her friends are genuine just like she has to trust that yours are. For example, I have mostly female friends but not by design. In fact, it just so happens that women have been the ones who have kept in contact while most of my male friends just kind of faded off and did their own thing …

A lot of women aren't put off by glasses, from what I've heard, as long as the wearer is fairly good looking already. If you have the smarts to back them up, it just adds to the personality. Glasses don't necessarily obscure the eyes, btw. It all depends on the strength of the prescription. Frames also have the advantage of being able to flatter your face with different shapes, styles, materials, etc., an advantage that contacts lack. Save some time and go to a place that sells expensive frames …

Sure, I don't think we're going to change each others' minds, nor am I really trying to. I'm slightly skeptical of the idea of demisexuals, but I understand the idea that some people might take time to develop attraction. I don't know if I'd say that one is better than the other. What I mean is that I have had women attracted to me before that I wouldn't want to pursue a relationship with because we were incompatible in other ways (doesn't mean I wouldn't pursue something casual though). I'm not saying no one can accomplish anything, or that you can't build a better life for yourself - obviously not. What I mean is that none of it will affect your social status. Personally, I'm not convinced it's a political thing. I think it's just a holdover from the 80s/90s/early 2000s when everyone wanted to imitate the sporty, campy, outdoorsy set who could dress down whenever they liked and go travelling. It's also, IMO, the source of the current craze for travels as a proxy for wealth and status. I'd say that mainstream fashions are about 20 years behind what they try to copy. In the next few years, we're going to see a big shift from the current, and I don't thi…

It's very pronounced in clothing too, especially accessories. Back in the day you'd see very masculine, Hollywood actors wearing silk scarves, having meticulous hair quiffs, getting manicures off set, etc. None of these men were any less masculine for that, it was just different standards (men were better dressed too).

I don't think everything will become unisex, as people will be comfortable expressing themselves in different ways and some of those ways are usual, but the popularity of many things will increase for men soon. Some unisex options are already more popular than their gendered counterparts (perfumes, for example). I think we'll start to see a shift in men's style too as things considered feminine today (but which were previously unisex) will make a resurgence. To be honest, I think a lot of our mo…

Yes, I agree. It's mainly about how it's used rather than the thing itself. Some things are basically the same either way (concealer, perfume) but others would require different approaches to highlight masculine properties (clothing, hairstyles).

Some of them, maybe, but so many are just complete nonsense. Number 7, for example: how is asking someone what they honestly think of your looks a questionable thing? Number 18 contradicts number 9 directly - so he can have female friends, but she can't have male ones? Number 21 is just completely bizarre and fucked up, etc.

UMC applies to professions like lawyers, doctors, etc. It isn't a monetary category. It's not really a matter of snobbery, but a social hierarchy. Whether we like it or not, we are all slotted into our groups from the day we're born until we die. There's no point in disagreeing with something as immutable as class any more than ethnicity or eye colour.

It's a twisted version of that platitude 'be yourself.' Except instead of deciding not to line up at the clown store because they feel they shouldn't demean themselves solely for the hope of human companionship, they take it to the extremity of refusing to do anything at all and lashing out at those who whose preferences don't line up with their 'being themselves.'

The problem is that there isn't some universal average, where if you hit a certain level you can date literally everyone near that point. 'Average' is more accurately the average of your social group, status group, and type range. You could be very attractive and still be average for the type of people you want to date. This is why charts and stats that talk about averages across a given country are misleading, because it means nothing without knowing where you end up across those three categori…

I'd have the same judgment too for a woman, as long as the situation was the same. Of course it's all dependent on the woman's desires. No one can simply 'convince' their friend to be attracted to them, it has to be reciprocal. So of course it's going to be a clumsy move if the man misread that attraction, no matter how smooth he tries to make it. And it's the same with women, or it would be if they ever initiated anything like that. I have personal experience turning down people I felt no attra…

Of course it's necessary, but there are a lot of relationships that develop sexual attraction afterwards, not as a first step. I don't agree that pure lust necessarily has to come first. Personally, I'm not trying to see how quickly I can develop a relationship with someone I'm just getting to know. There's a big difference, in my mind, between sexual attraction and 'wanting to spend time with you.' A woman who's sexually attracted to me isn't always the ideal makings of a relationship.

It was just a shot in the dark. But your edit misses the point of the 'take.' What clearly happened when a response like that is given is that the guy wants a relationship/whatever, whereas the woman is used to thinking of him as a friend. Introducing a sexual element into a friendship out of the blue (from her perspective) is repulsive. The couples that start as friends develop mutual attraction, together. Big difference between that and a clumsy move.

No, having extra body fat is not optimal for Olympic lifting. In fact, it makes it harder to cut down for your weigh-in and will do nothing to increase your lifts. The reason you see the highest weight classes with extra cushion is because they are training with the highest loads and eating tons of calories to match their energy expenditure. At that point, having excess calories is more helpful than not, and they don't have to cut anyway.

Do women really fantasize about such a different type, though? Batman isn't a typical hero, but he's hardly unempathetic, he has a touching backstory, he struggles and is imperfect. No, they do not. It is relevant because people are not merely the sum total of their actions, but also who they are inside. Good luck trying to convince a woman she should be attracted to the things you do instead of who you actually are.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/22 04:32 AM

I believe you meant '30' days without food. The choice isn't between food or shelter in general, it's between food and the cave.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/22 04:30 AM
7

That simply isn't the case. It is quite easy to tell when someone is making an effort and when they are doing something instinctively. Maybe not right away, but it emerges as you get to know them.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/22 04:17 AM
3

Do you value food over shelter? The correct answer should be 'yes,' because shelter is necessary but food is vital. Given the choice between starvation and a dry cave, most people would take the food. Niceness is a dry cave. That doesn't mean that you should say you don't value the cave. The cave is useful, and it is valuable, but it is not food and it does not sustain you.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/22 04:14 AM

No, but it might help them achieve an orgasm.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/22 04:09 AM

So your objection is that a nice man should have priority over a more attractive man simply because he's nice? And not 'kind,' let's make that distinction clear: a kind man performs kind deeds because that quality is a part of who he is. A nice man does nice things because he thinks it makes him a better person/he wants approval/he consciously makes the decision to be nice.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/22 04:05 AM

See, a man who would describe himself as nice, empathic, law-abiding, and less aggressive, in the experience of most women is, at best, spineless and, at worst, a crazy stalker just waiting to happen. You should never have to describe yourself like this. People who are primarily these traits with nothing else to back them up are not good men. They are Nice Guys, and that is what is unattractive.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/22 03:51 AM
15

If that is the only standard men have, then our standards are much too low. That's the whole point. It isn't that women don't value kindness, as the OP claims, but that they don't value kindness solely.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/22 03:44 AM

And by "restructure society" they mean "prevent women from making free choices."
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/22 03:37 AM

That says more about the pathetic state of modern men's self control than it does about the woman's attractiveness.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/22 03:33 AM

I don't do online dating, but if I did I certainly would not lead with mentioning what I thought of myself, but instead by describing things about myself that indicate those things without saying them. Which is why I don't do online dating, incidentally. I prefer to have that become apparent in person, rather than having to type it all out for a stranger.

/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/22 03:10 AM

So the women who say they want men who are attractive in other ways but also kind are conspiring to pull off a giant practical joke, is that it? Which sounds more believable: that kindness could be an attractive trait (not the only one), or that an entire sex is orchestrating a complex conspiracy of global proportions specifically to piss you off?

Your problem is that you're confusing charisma, confidence, willingness to take risks, 'darkly handsome,' etc., with "cockiness and asshole behaviour." It's complete nonsense to say that women don't like kind men. But a genuinely kind man isn't being that way to gain someone's favour or because he has little else going for him. That is the key. You can't rely upon 'being kind' as the foundation of your personality and expect to be attractive for it. Disagree? Try being your regular self, but thi…

Yes, I agree, but that doesn't negate the biphobia. It's pure prejudice, because it's not like the man is incompatible due to his sexuality. It doesn't do bisexual men any favours in general if biphobia is prevalent. If 80% of people wouldn't date a man with blue eyes due to prejudice, is the man being done a favour? That's an extraordinarily mild way of looking at bigotry in action.

Again, the scientific evidence that testosterone therapy plays a role in women's sex drives is weak. Women's sexual desire is more strongly linked to responsive sexual arousal, and doesn't operate the same way men's does. What I'm saying is that there is more at play than just testosterone.

The first study you linked shows concordance rate (which is still fairly high), not probability that the twins will be homosexual themselves. The problem with twin studies is that twins can develop in different amniotic sacs and placentas, which is why concordance studies are useful in determining how much the amount of exposure of hormones plays a role. The problem with these studies, however, is that we aren't sure which genes are causal in developing sexuality. What is more certain is that th…

That doesn't apply in situations where a man and a woman have been dating, the woman develops feelings for the man, he tells her he's bi, and suddenly it's all over. (not an uncommon scenario) The only thing that changed was her socialized revulsion, not the nature of their relationship.

I agree that men need to start valuing themselves and their time and attention more, and also that they should stop being supplicating Nice Guys in a misguided attempt to attract women. You don’t need this bond to maintain a relationship though. Plenty of men partner with women they don’t live simply because it’s convenient, beneficial and the sexual attraction is there. Based on what men say mlm is more convenient and beneficial than mlw so as long as the sexual attraction is there couldn’t an mlm relationship work even if one man is heteroromantic? But your final point is where I'm losing you. If those traits are helpful in attracting women, it isn't the case that their lack makes the person less valuable because of their failure to attract women, but because those traits are valuable in addition to being attractive. Now, while you're correct in saying that those traits alone are not guarantors of attraction, because they are attractive it is a mistake to state categorically that their improvement can never aid in gaining attractiveness.

I don’t understand. If you’re attracted to both even if one is in significantly lower frequency wouldn’t the pros vs cons add more incentive to date the gender you’re not as attracted to no pregnancy scares if you’re not ready to be father, less paternity worries, easier to get sex, easier to relate as they’re the same sex and can understand on a deeper level what life is like for you, similar communication styles etc. It isn't a matter of incentive. Is not this: Your lack of women suggests your lack of effort in life and yourself and must therefore 'work on yourself'. This is the arguments made one way or another. I reject this notion. At best, those stating that mantra falsely attribute their success to those qualities. Contradicted by this: If you lack all of these, you are as of now, practically useless. The kid thing isn't a problem, as long as one or the other is okay with being the sole biological father of the child. Perhaps I should have said "if he wants a child the usual way." It isn't so simple if your sexuality just happens to be more heterosexual than homosexual. Some men are homosexual but heteroromantic, meaning that they can't really have lasting relationships with the same sex. Again, it's hard to explain over the internet unless you've seen it in person.

If you don't know what an indicator of interest is or how to interpret one, then that indicates some room for improvement in the social skills area. It's somewhat difficult to teach over the internet, but there are definitely clear signs. For example, if a woman meets your eyes, looks you deliberately up and down, meets your gaze again and smiles... that's a pretty damn clear sign. Of course, they're often more subtle than this, but just as that example is very different from someone meeting you…
/r/PurplePillDebate14/07/22 06:33 PM

The argument you linked with the idiot senator was regarding advocating for abortion rights for people who can have children. Those groups of people include people with uteruses who aren't women. Ergo, you need terminology that encompasses these groups. Also, the people advocating for abortion rights and abortion rights themselves are not identical. One does not affect the seriousness of another in reality.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/07/22 06:24 PM

A lot. Maybe not most, but something like 50% easily. Personality, character, hygiene, style, self-care, ambition, lifestyle, social circles, and career choice are all things that are almost entirely in your control and can also influence attractiveness.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/07/22 06:19 PM

IOI = indicators of interest If a woman is signalling these to a man, she's basically giving green lights (a clear runway) to make a move. The point is not to approach every woman you find attractive, but those who also find you attractive. That way you save time and are more likely to be compatible. It's win-win. And I resent your suggestion that only psychopaths or extroverts will approach. I'm what most would term an introvert, and I approach women I like all the time.

I'm lucky enough to have skipped the receding hairline into my 30s so far, although every other man in my family has one. Apparently I have a gene that makes it unlikely before 40. If it does happen, though, I'd go for a short-cropped hairstyle and never shave my head.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/07/22 06:05 PM

To be fair, most men with healthy lifestyles and testosterone levels aren't any worse off at 35 than they were in their 20s. It's just that most men don't have that + the genetics + take care of themselves in other ways. I'm in my early 30s and far superior in every way to my early 20s.

It's actually a much better look to crop it short (not short buzz) and embrace the Picard look as you get older. Think Jude Law over the years. A real hairstylist can make it look much better, and you won't have to resort to a patchy beard and looking even older.

Then you'll be fine with my pointing out that 'effect,' in this case, is actually correct. Whereas 'affect' would be used in this case to denote a preexisting attraction that was influenced by other factors, 'effect' makes perfect sense in terms of bringing about or causing a woman's willingness to be with a man where one did not previously exist.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/07/22 05:34 PM

It's a common stereotype these days, but it's also wrong and profoundly unhistorical. In fact, there are generally thought to be more truly bisexual men and women than homosexual. It's a shame that we assume we're so progressive with our social freedoms when we're not even as accepting of sexuality as some civilizations were 2500 years ago.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/07/22 03:57 PM

Agreed. I know that some bisexual men actually prefer to be more open about it for that very reason: they'd rather weed out the people with whom they aren't compatible, and appeal more strongly to others--often as a result of being openly bisexual. That can often translate to better dating success overall, even though the pool of potential partners might shrink initially. We can see this happen with subcultures too, especially the more polarizing ones.

The 'pretty boy' face and build is much more universally appealing to younger women. It goes beyond facial attractiveness. Men who think they can skimp out on self-care, style, and interpersonal qualities these days a…

Definitely upbringing. If anything my testosterone levels are higher than average, according to my doctor. I agree that most men are not like that, possibly to their detriment, but he said that "men" have low standards and that even the most attractive will go for women who are far less attractive. That is what I was disputing. Then there's the question of whether only looks should be the basis for how we're determining 'standards.'

Prior generations did not always live in a pathetic state, but it's true that we have to be honest about having made progress in many ways today. That doesn't mean, however, that strong, positive, and masculine figures were just as unavailable to men in the past as they are today. In fact, considering that men today are far more likely to have been raised never having read a classic novel, never having heard of real heroic figures, never having investigated their own past history, it is likely t…

Sexuality is determined at birth, not by society or upbringing.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/07/22 12:35 PM

Girls often turn bi/lesbian to cope after failed relationships with men. Some of them certainly do find out that they're attracted to women too, but they emphatically do not "turn bi/lesbian." It's not some lifestyle choice. Your sexuality is determined at birth. And speaking of that, women haven't been sexually attracted to men who even give off anything that resembles gayness, no matter how straight they are. If you're in an area where there are closed minded people, it can come down to someth…

Yes, and conversely some bi men might feel like they'd rather be out and only date people who have no problem with it, or that they only want to date women anyway and it doesn't matter. It's a very personal choice either way.

Bisexuality runs on a spectrum. Often it isn't a 50/50 split in attraction between the sexes, or someone likes men but only a specific type, etc. I can't say why that particular data shows that pattern, but I do know that bisexual leaning can vary quite a bit.

Exactly, I agree that it could easily backfire. Granted, some women have absolutely no problem dating bisexual men, especially liberal/higher education types in urban centres, but these also don't appear to be this sub's favoured group.

The logic is that attraction to men is always primarily assumed. This is the reason some straight men don't take bi women seriously or fetishize them. Their attraction to women isn't taken as seriously as their attraction to men, so they're basically presumed "straight with some flavour." Bisexual men are assumed to be semi-closeted gay men because if they are attracted to men they can't possibly be as attracted to women because the male attraction is primary. In reality, openly bisexual men oft…

Do you think religion was the primary factor in this, though, or was it the rise of civilization?
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/22 11:54 PM

So... you're agreeing with me. All the religions I listed were ones under which polygamy was practised. The factor determining monogamous vs non-monogamous societies in general seems to be civilized, or complex, societies vs simple ones. The more complex the society, the more monogamy was practised. Religion wasn't the primary driver.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/22 11:51 PM

Luckily I have fantastically pretty green eyes.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/22 11:43 PM

The way the theory is broached is that religious practices invented monogamy. Which religious practices? Why in some religions and not others?
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/22 11:36 PM

Zoroastrianism, Islam, Hinduism, ancient Egyptian religion, ancient Babylonian religion, Celtic religion, etc. The Macedonian elites also practised polygamy. One ancient culture that was fairly strictly monogamous, although exceptions were made for aristocratic men, was that of the Germanic tribes. It is my opinion that this culture combined with the Judeo-Christian tradition in the early Mediaeval Period had a much greater role in shaping current monogamous practices than 'religion' in general.…

Men will claim that they don't want as many as possible, they'll say they are a good guy who just wants ONE partner, despite the fact that if they were attractive and able to attract women they'd probably sleep with as many women as they could, like "selfish badboy". I disagree. I've turned down women before because they didn't meet my standards, and I didn't care if it would be easy to sleep with them. I didn't say that women don't lie, I said that women aren't all liars. Specifically, they don't all lie about what they find attractive.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/22 06:47 PM

Here's the kicker, though: RP guys will claim that they know the true nature of women, but won't listen to anyone's point of view but their own. They certainly won't listen to women's, because they consider them inherently liars. This makes their claims unfalsifiable.

According to the theory, the patriarchal structure isn't necessarily looking out for the interests of most men either. It wouldn't even be antithetical to women's interests, so long as they served its own. Your example of abortion rights is flawed, however. They aren't materially equals, but they are social equals. Both of their families are Anglo-Norman gentry, and Elizabeth even argues this to Darcy. In England and British-derived societies, what matters more than your material circumstances is your breeding - i.e. who your ancestors were and what your name is. I still think the point was that the senator was dismissing the possibility that trans people could be included in the document/statement/whatever. It would be like some asshole saying that a marriage law only pertains to a heterosexual relationship. That would be homophobia.

There used to be a lot of internet chatter around how men were supposedly chasing young women in middle age in their "field reports." I don't hang out with unmarried 40 year-olds, so I cannot say.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/22 01:32 AM

Not really. Darcy and Elizabeth are technically social equals in the novel, although Darcy himself simply lacks social grace and thinks himself above her because he's a dunderhead at first, but realizes that he was in the wrong when he's rejected and then starts to behave more like a gentleman. I'm glad you brought this up, because it's a perfect example of what I believe about this whole "Nice Guy" stuff: The key point here is not that Mr. Darcy is becoming nicer and that this is attractive, bu…

The point is that there's currently a lot of BS going on in the USA regarding abortions because some people who can get pregnant are not encapsulated by legal terminology. It's actually less of an identity thing and more of a legal rights problem.

I think it changes somewhat depending on age. For example, I've heard from several 23-27 year old women that they wouldn't mind a (non-transactional) relationship with a man either their age or up to 35, even for the younger ones. Once women get up to about 30, though, I imagine that they would rather he be closer in age to them, and particularly once they near 35 and 40.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/22 01:02 AM

I was getting lots of action from 19-23 year old girls when I was 17-18. Granted at the time I was extremely athletic (I'm also objectively more handsome now simply due to maturing).

When she saw them, she lusted after them and sent messengers to them in Chaldea. And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their whoring lust. Technically, it is. And it was practised among the aristocracy of Europe for a very long time before it became part of public discourse - even in societies as repressed as Victorian England. One simply didn't ask, stayed together for the good of the household and patrimony, and that was that. This is not just my own observation. This is what I've seen, what I know from bisexual/pansexual friends and family members, and it's the consensus in many queer and academic circles. Many straight men have a hard time accepting bi women as really queer. I don't mean that all straight men think that way, but it is a common view. Just like not all straight women will refuse to date bisexual men, but it happens often enough to be worth mentioning.

/r/PurplePillDebate12/07/22 08:44 PM

Not true. What you're trying to say is chastity, not monogamy (i.e. staying committed to one partner vs having a single partner with whom they stay in a formal relationship). It is uncommon for primitive societies to practise monogamy, but this increases with the sophistication of civilizations. Moreover, there is ample evidence in the historical record for more or less monogamy being more prevalent in certain shared cultural contexts, regardless of status.

I still stand by my other post. It is true that a university isn't a job school, but it is also true that you need degrees to get certain jobs. The point is that many of those jobs can be had with degrees that don't obviously relate to the profession. A librarian often starts in English or History, but could also have done something else, etc. You are correct that sitting in a classroom …

I don't think self-doubt is a turn off in either sex, not in my experience. Self-doubt is often confused with lack of confidence, and this latter thing is a turn-off. But the opposite of confidence is not self-doubt; it is low self-esteem. Overt self-doubt and oversharing of all one's insecurities is never fun, but neither is the impossible task of pretending like you have no insecurities or that you should be infallible (the two things that lead to the fragile ego).

/r/PurplePillDebate12/07/22 07:03 PM

Because online doesn't allow for some people's personal strengths to come through, and basically forces you to select for looks only. Furthermore, a lot of stated requirements like height aren't as big of a deal in person. I agree, but they often do confer things like status to make up for it, especially your examples of academia and psychology. Of course, people with high status can be in other fields that don't require so much intelligent quotient. I definitely feel like people can be shortsighted about this kind of thing. In my experience, it's usually the case that being intelligent gives you an appreciable boost if you're slightly above average, or higher. Not so much if you're unattractive. But that's still a boost given by intelligence alone, not because of what it can "get" a woman later. Intelligence is highly heritable, and people realize that on an instinctual level.

Evolution isn't about producing the most offspring. Evolution is simply the mechanism by which advantageous survival traits are transmitted, over the course of eons and often in a volatile manner, to successive generations. The process of evolution is about evolving, that's it. As u/ririsbaby pointed out above, reproduction isn't even the purpose of our species, but simply a means to ensure its survival. Our purpose as men isn't just to pass on our genes as much as possible.

Of course they don't end up making much. Besides, higher education isn't supposed to be a job school. In any degree that isn't directly applicable to a job, you're there to become a learned person, period. Treating it like …

Yes, but it doesn't matter if he's saying that men are soft or not. The point is that his generalizations about women's "fundamental role" (which is pure hubris to conceptualize) is sexist. OP asked for an example.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/07/22 01:56 AM

It's definitely a prejudice. A fundamental feminine role? How is it obvious that women, collectively, have any kind of fundamental role beyond what they choose to do, just like us?
/r/PurplePillDebate11/07/22 08:50 PM
3

I agree, but I think the conversation has shifted a little more in recent years on/offline to where some people propose that women have some kind of fundamental nature that predisposed them towards assuming those historical roles, when in reality those roles were largely based upon religious models and not even historical in every culture or time period.

OP asked for an example, not multiple ones. I'm sure it's possible to find others. He said routine, not ritual (although to be fair we don't know to which culture he was referring), and the Sabine Women myth had nothing to do with ritual - that was out and out kidnapping. Regardless of whether it is a ritual, however, he suggests that college-aged women have a "deep repugnance for the role that they've been designed [assigned?]." This is a classic example of deciding that women cannot possibly b…

I'm not saying that there aren't far-left thinkers in university, or that a lot of nonsense goes on around guest speakers, but your assertion that the majority of professors in the Liberal Arts are indoctrinating their students is simply wrong. Except that there is no evidence that modern college women are "angry at men" in the way he suggests, and it is quite confused to say that it is a fundamental feminine role (mistaking gender for sex), to say the least. It's tantamount to saying that it's a fundamental masculine role to assault people and that modern men are angry at women because they cannot assault them. The existence of BDSM enthusiasts doesn't make it less sexist.

As long as he's assuming all the other factors that may play a role beyond status, then possibly. His point, however, was that "having one's shit together" plays little part in getting a girlfriend/wife because people of lower socioeconomic status seem to reproduce more. This not only equates romantic success with the number of children, but also erroneously implies that the standard for shit being had together is identical across social groups.

That's because it's socio-economic status. Even if a woman makes less than a man, it's very likely that they fall within the same social class for long-term relationships.

The trouble is that the statement is equating having children with being romantically successful. Some people don't have kids yet, don't want kids yet/at all, etc. That doesn't mean they aren't pairing off at all.

I think status has interplay with wealth, but it is not a 1:1 ratio at all. Pierre Bourdieu, a French sociologist, wrote a lot about this. Essentially, people possess varying amounts of real capital (money, assets, possessions, etc), social capital (your friends, connections, ancestry, cachet of your profession, etc), and cultural capital (your knowledge of finer things, tastes, education, manners, etc). These things work collectively to make up your overall social status. It is a hard slog, but…

I feel like this is a common experience for men, attractive or not, in the modern world with smartphones. It's part of the reason I try not to text very much, unless we're just staying in touch as friends. It ruins the personal interaction. I suppose that depends on whether you're a universalist or a relativist, or a bit of both. The fact remains, though, that logic on its own is not enough to determine morality. I agree with all of this. And it doesn't make sense, in my opinion, to blame women's sexual selectiveness for these problems. These are mainly societal, personal, and genetic issues. The thing to do is to advocate for better access and services for mental health (something that both men and women can benefit from), push back against this trend of anti-intellectualism that seems to pervade many things today, and develop greater bonds between men on positive grounds. A cynical man would say that the feeling of love is a chemical reaction that occurs in the body and is interpreted by the brain as sensation. Therefore it both exists and occurs in our imagination.

Well, as a guy who is precisely two inches below 5'10", I think this isn't as much of a problem in person as it is on dating apps. I've said this many times, but IME women don't dislike decent, courteous, or kind men. What they dislike are these traits shown in the absence of the other ones that they also like: confidence, assertiveness, strength (physical or moral/mental), intelligence, self-sufficiency, social status, etc. The problem of many men is that they do not embody enough of the other …

I agree with this. Logic needs context to be considered a 'good' thing, in terms of morality. The problem is the equation of good and correct.

TL;DR: men are being judged mostly by looks, men are going to opt out of being productive, women will rely on the state (and not their own incomes?) but that's a mistake, society will fall apart.

But again, with your "beautiful" statement, the point wouldn't be that you didn't intend to cause harm with it or that it's other people's problem - the point would be that it's still a bad statement because of its faulty assumptions. Things don't necessarily have to cause harm to be bad or to be a harmful statement. If I propose that all men are great singers, the problem with that statement is not even so much that men who aren't good singers will feel bad, but that it perpetuates a false imag…

I know exactly where it originates, thanks. Applying an observation to women as a whole is equivalent to saying that all women share the same characteristic/tendency, which is equivalent to saying that all human females share this trait in their nature. It may be a response to a stupid denial from a blue piller, but it's still a faulty assumption and therefore isn't true. It would be like saying that all men are aggressive and loud. Even though we know that it isn't true of all men, we know that…

If what you really meant by "earning potential" was lifestyle opportunity, then it still isn't shallow. That's like saying a woman who won't date a man without a degree is shallow. It's only shallow if she A) won't consider a man with the same education level, or B) only cares about education level. Having it as a standard to reach isn't shallow on its own.

All right: Believing that all women are awesome and allowing that to influence your behaviour around them will probably result in harm eventually, either because the woman in question will prove herself unworthy of that and fall short, or because you will set yourself up for a disappointment and be harmed by some woman. Treating people as more beautiful than they know they are can actually do harm too. Whether or not you think they need to live up to a standard, they may mistrust your motives, b…

When did you say anything about the amount of work? All you mentioned was her preferences regarding earning potential. If someone is simply considering earning potential, that isn't shallow. It would be shallow if that were the only criteria used, or if she wouldn't consider a man earning the same as she does, but you didn't say whether that was the case either.

Ok, so the question you posed, as far as I can tell, basically boils down to "is a mistaken generalization an inherently bad thing if it is used as positive motivation for improvement by the observer of it," right? But that is a different question from whether the statement itself is a harmful one. It doesn't matter if it is intended to be harmful, or if it is used in a harmful way. I gave you an example (moving up in a company) where racism could be used in a positive way. But that doesn't mean…

You want to know what's weird? Thinking that something must be hateful in order to be racist... that's weird. The acronym is not "all average members of the female sex are like that." It isn't even "all average members of the feminine gender are like that." It's literally "all women are like that. That is a textbook example of confusing stereotypical generalizations with reality. It has nothing to do with hate and everything to do with ignorance and wishful thinking.

The fact is that men and women will always stay productive in some way, shape, or form. If a bunch of men decide to take up minimum wage jobs and lift weights instead of working at a trade or profession, there are plenty of others to replace them - both men and machines. It's not like we're running out of people in the world, and the ones near the top of society keep on chugging away. Furthermore, women do not select men purely on the basis of looks in our society; nor are we even trending in th…

Speaking as a man: the vast, vast majority of men I've seen most certainly do not take care of themselves to an acceptable level. Most of them could benefit from more self-care, better mental health, better hygiene, and/or better clothing.

Malthus has been justly criticized since his law was proposed, even in the 19th century: https://www.jstor.org/stable/658457?seq=21 His model is flawed. The issue of overpopulation in some regions of the world is due more to social, political, and cultural climates than possible resources (as opposed to actual resources).

Common trends aren't applicable to every individual within a biological or cultural group of people. Associating common trends of behaviour to members of the same race, purely on the basis of their association with that race, is textbook bigotry. It's literally prejudice - the prejudging of someone. If rage bothers you, how about simple competition? It would be the same analogy if that man used internal racism to fuel his desire to ascend to the top of a company (perhaps he's Asian and the CEO i…

It's not true that it doesn't hurt anybody. Saying "all women are awesome/beautiful" sounds all good and fuzzy, but is it? What about men who have been mistreated by women? I'll bet that it hurts to hear someone talk over them about how "no, literally every woman is awesome!" and brush aside their concerns. Or women who aren't beautiful - do you think they aren't affected by pressures to be like all the other girls, or depressed because they can't reach that standard? Of course it hurts people.

And because of the First Law of Thermodynamics, literally nothing in existence is not a substance of nature. That doesn't mean that everything occurs naturally, or that its existence is natural. We have all the elements of a toaster out in the wild, but your argument is akin to saying that the toaster itself is a natural thing. It is not natural (that is, of nature) because it does not occur in nature. Humans are natural; they are of nature. That's your first use of 'natural.' The second way you…

And they are also similarly untrue statements, even if they espouse positive things. Both of these things are based upon the faulty assumption that members of a given group are all alike. Even if they were making positive statements, they're wrong for that alone. But the fact is that AWALT is almost always used in a sexist way.

No, natural selection is concerned with passing down genes that aid in survival. Being unhealthy and unable to gain resources are not successful traits, but they are possible to reproduce in great numbers due to the artificiality of our society. This does not imply that those traits are now more advantageous. Furthermore, even if lots of poor and uneducated people are having a lot of kids, that doesn't mean that educated and comfortably-off people are being selected against. In fact, it could me…

I've never even heard of anyone equating honest compliments with cat-calling before. For what it's worth, I always give a simple compliment to a woman (or man) if I notice something about them I genuinely think deserves it. I've only ever had good responses.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/07/22 04:27 AM

Yes, but 'having kids' doesn't necessarily mean squeezing them out of your personal orifice. If it's just one of the couple who's contributed their genes to the kid, that's still them (together) having a kid, IMO.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/07/22 04:24 AM
1

That is demonstrably fallacious. You're equating two different definitions of the word 'natural.' Something created by humans is artificial, in that it was manufactured (lit: done with the hands) through artifice, and therefore not naturally occurring. It is absolutely possible to be natural creatures living in an unnatural environment.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/07/22 04:20 AM
7

This is not natural selection. A bunch of poor people with little education having more children in an environment of artificially-high survival rates is not evidence that healthy people with high intelligence are being selected against. The article equates natural selection with birthrates, as if one human was precisely like another and each would have a similar influence on outcomes.

How was each man better than the last in your example? It sounds to me like each one was getting recognition for doing a small, thoughtful thing that any decent man would do. And that's the whole point: a lot of men don't do them. Or, if they do one, it's done in such a way that it's no longer an act that emanates from them personally, but as a thought-out and artificial contrivance to gain approval (the infamous Nice Guy).

A lot of these answers are going to be deeply tied in to how a man was raised, and his social environment. I've never overheard a group of male doctors, or teachers, or artists complaining that they feel emasculated because they couldn't 'dominate' the people in their social spheres. These men feel a sense of accomplishment and purpose by having a passion, achieving things with it, and having a lasting effect in the world (hopefully for the better).
