Lol looking back maybe, but by that point it was a meaningless thing I had even forgotten that it was still on. Mostly removed just to keep the peace till she got the f out of my house.

When she told me I should “take that fucking thing off”.

What I would like is for her to finally show some responsibility without leaving me to pick up after her. Or, at the very least stop and have discussions about these things with an appropriate amount of lead time instead of our child’s care being an afterthought to her.

I was in the same boat man. Forced into the role of traditional breadwinner, and modern male caretaker/father simultaneously. She got to follow her “dreams” and “passions”. I got stuck with the bills and the household/parenting work. Nothing I ever did was ever enough. It was like a 10 ton weight was lifted off my shoulders after divorce. I had more money than ever even after alimony. A week where I don’t have to spend 100% of my free time parenting?!? Yes please! I will say women who respect yo…

I realized when I was in the exact same situation as you. Anytime we would fight she would threaten divorce. The last time she threatened it l said “you’re right, we should get a divorce”. The look on her face was priceless.

Probably after the 20th time she screamed I want a divorce. Grew a spine and decided she was right. Best decision I ever made.

Holy shit that rings so true. I’ve never heard the quote before but I like it. She needed all the noise to drown out the thoughts.

It’s like they try to be unhappy. They need chaos and constant change to distract them from how miserable they are.

Similar situation not perfect but a present father, attentive husband, good provider, but it was never enough. Some women just consume. Everything will never be enough for them, they always want more. Threatened with divorce repeatedly. The look on her face when I told her “you know what, you’re right. We should get divorced.” Was priceless. So much happier now. I’m still standing too.

Thanksgiving used to be my favorite holiday. My ex and her family ruined it for me. I’m looking forward to enjoying it again. Working on setting up a “Friendsgiving”. A lot of my friends complain about having to be with family they don’t want to see. So I’ll give them an alternative.

Yup! This happened to me. Ex loved to scream “I think we should just get a divorce!!!” Wore me down into indifference. The last time she screamed it I told her “I think you’re right”. She looked gobsmacked. I was done.

I had to go back and check the user name to make sure I didn’t actually post this. Was married for 13 years. I feel like I wasn’t even a person during that time. It was like a rock was lifted off my chest once we decided on divorce. For the first time in years my needs made it back into my top 5 priorities in life. She still asks for my help with stuff. Funny how I can’t seem to find the time for that anymore.

When looking at things through rose colored glasses all the red flags just look like flags. Hindsight is definitely 20/20.

Ex wanted 2 things from me, more, and more. Supported her through everything and in return got nothing. You are not a loser this is a failing on her part not yours. Happiness for them is a constantly moving goalpost. They will never reach it and really don’t care who they hurt in the process.

Amazing how I can buy 2 years worth of multi vitamins at Costco for 10$ rather than 200$ a month from an MLM. The amount of snake oil I have purged from my home is astounding.

I know the feeling. In a lot of ways my divorce was the biggest pay raise I have ever received. Even with alimony I am saving more than I ever did without having to fully fund her BS spending habits.

Exactly! I’ll take the extra weeks, but even that gets old/annoying. I’m sorry your parenting schedule doesn’t line up with the guy you are fucking. I guess we all see where your priorities lie though…

50/50 with our kids for a few years now. Going well week on week off. I watch them after school so see them more than 50% which is nice. It’s also nice when they are not here. I get to focus on, and take care of myself. After being primary parent for so long it is nice to actually be able to switch off some evenings and weekends. Im glad she finally has to pull her own weight in the parenting department.

The best answer to that question is “I don’t care.” It may take a while to get there but how she feels is nothing you can control and nothing that should concern you. Sounds like at most you 2 should be to each other is Co-parents.

Not at all. The immense stress I was under trying to make her happy and make things work was suddenly lifted. Her tactics of yelling we should get a divorce every time we fought finally convinced me she was right. After having those words screamed in my face over and over and then accepting that fact made me realize that I had mourned our relationship for years and yeah I was “at peace”. The anxiety I felt when her car pulled into the drive way or seeing her name pop up on my text messages melte…

I’ll take a week of discomfort than another 18 years of fatherhood. I had mine in office only local anesthesia (apparently that is not the norm anymore). As far as I’m concerned he could have done it without anesthesia and it would still be less painful than dealing with a newborn.

lol emotional tampon. I love that. I’m still keeping the friendly face on while the divorce process finishes up. Once that is over and done with I can drop the pretense of “still being friends”.

To be fair we both pulled back when the kids were young. She just never recovered and in a lot of ways got worse. So when she did that it became kids first all the time for me. I’m know I’m not blameless in all of this. Not sure what she’s playing at or if she is looking for any sort of reconciliation. That is a hard no from me she said and did too many horrible things to me and the kids to ever make me think of forgiving her.

Correct, If you sold the house today how much would you get? Take that number and Subtract the amount of the mortgage that is still owed. Then whatever is left gets split 50/50. So how it worked for me was that the STBX and I agreed upon what we thought was a fair sale price, or you can have the home appraised and use that #. Only my name is on the mortgage so no need to refinance. So if it was 300k sale price 150k mortgage. 150k in “sale” profit total. Of that profit her half is 75k. All that i…

STBX started doing this every time she found something to be angry at and fight about. The look on her face was priceless when I finally replied with “I think that you’re right”. I suppose it has gone as smooth and amicable as possible. Papers signed and just need to courts to process them I can truly be out of this.

Personally I would want someone who was able to be independent and self sufficient. I am looking for someone who can be a partner in a relationship. She sounds like she is still looking for someone to support her. Date her? Maybe. Relationship with her? No thank you.

Well, if you are paying her alimony see if there are grounds for termination of that due to cohabitation. Rules vary from state to state. If so, talk to your lawyer and gather evidence.

Congrats! I am making the same amount I was pre divorce, but even factoring in alimony and home equity loan I have substantially more money left every month than I ever did while married. Once she stopped leeching off my bank account suddenly there was always a lot more in there. My name was the only one on the mortgage so I got to keep the great interest rate and the house. No more 300$ makeup charges, 100$ nail appointments, 350$ hair appointments, amazon boxes showing up daily. Hope she enjoy…

I always wondered why my ex got even angrier when I wouldn’t give that anger back to her. If I snapped and yelled back then she would be “justified” for her behavior. Then I’d be “the narcissist”, which is a term she loved to throw around at everyone.

Transfer is free. Taxes only apply if you cash out.

You should be able to liquidate it if it is transferred to you via a QDRO Qualified Domestic Relations Order. Liquidating it WILL NOT incur a withdrawal penalty. However, it WILL be Taxed so assume ~20% loss to taxes.

Closer to 33, but like others said it’s a negotiation. Talk her down here and give her something else she wants. My ex is getting cash from a Home equity loan I took out and being paid with some of my retirement savings. In the bright side her credit was so shitty when we were married I was the only one listed on the mortgage and she was just the on the deed with me. No need to refinance. I get to keep my house and my low mortgage rate.

I hope you’re wrong, but I know you’re probably not. Rules always applied to other people but rarely to her. Kids are getting older and I hope they will be able to see through all her BS soon and realize like I did they shouldn’t have to put up with it. Id rather she be a good mom but she could do that while we’re were married and I don’t see her doing it now.

Ugh. I would NOT be comfortable with that. Does your state at least count co-habitation as grounds for cessation of alimony?

Personally I would not feel comfortable bringing someone I am seeing for less than a year to meet my kids. I directly asked my ex what her feelings were about what timeframe to introduce kids to anyone else. Luckily we are on the same page in that regard.

Thankfully no. Se burned so many bridges in the past couple years I got all our mutual friends in the divorce. Looking back, it was only a matter of time before she burnt mine. She had no one left to turn on.

Good luck. She is in denial. You are not crazy or wrong for leaving. Your situation pre-separation is very similar to mine. In the end we/I did it for the kids, fighting all the time wasn’t fair to them. Hopefully this gives everyone a change to be happy again.

If just separating and time apart works for you that is great. Communication and ground rules/expectations will be essential. You don’t want to end up in a “we were on a break!” situation like in the show Friends. Be honest with her, and yourself. If the situation isn’t working for you say so. At that point the hardest part is over because she already moved out. Other than that it’s normal to feel weird, and for you each to handle this differently. My STBX pulled the divorce card all the time, a…

Hopefully it is a wedding photo. That is usually grounds for termination of alimony. I’m hoping my STBExW moves that quickly.

Only 114 monthly payments left. I really hope she suckers the guy she is seeing into marriage or moving in together. On the bright side you gave me my next woodworking project to work on. Monthly countdown calendar till payments are done.

To do this I ended up with a new home equity loan with an unfortunately high rate, and paying out of my 401k. Financial advisor said I have time to rebuild the 401k just keep doing what I can to max it out every year.
