Spot on there. It doesn't really make sense, but it happens.

Wow, I'm getting more feedback than I expected and I am appreciating all of it. It really puts things into perspective when legendofpasta says that the importance level of any conversation should generally be the same. I'll be using all the advice you guys are dishing out, and then eventually try to formulate my own little way of going about business in life. I think we should all push ourselves into as much social interaction as possible, both for the new experiences and as an exercise to train…

Seems like solid advice to me. Also I'm going to try to give up the thought that I always need to add to the conversation, sometimes being quiet and withdrawn is alright.

It went well for you, so nice job. But as future reference: There are plenty of fish in the water, so make every awkward moment as awkward as possible. It'll come around and help you in the end knowing that the worst that can happen is rejection. (;

The only thing you are doing that is counter-productive is continually trying to appeal to the people that you see day in and day out at your job. Try going out once in awhile to new places, bars, clubs, etc. and see how it goes there. If nothing else, it will be a new experience for you which could stir up some confidence.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
