Dad is My life. All I can say about this is to get a lawyer and get all in writing and signed. That way, she will not be able to come back later (of course she could try!) I tried to do everything I amicably, and wish I had done that from the beginning. It would have avoided a lot of headaches and pain. And about your kids, believe me, as many other said, it’s not about where you are, what you have, but how you behave. Enjoy your time with your kids when they are there, and when they are not, make you you work … | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/07/23 01:33 PM
55yr old DAD Against the Wall.I’m sorry to hear that, and to be honest, something similar happened between my ex and my kids (my son not wanting anything to do with her) I’m just curious, have you spoken to your kids about it? Why is your daughter so mad at you and doesn’t want to have anything to do with you if your wife kicked you out and initiated the whole thing? | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/09/22 08:07 PM
PodcastsAfter my divorce, I decided to start my own podcast talking about my journey through separation and divorce. I realized at the time there wasnt much out there for men (and that we don't often talk about it!), and thought it could help others at some point. So feel free to have a listen! The name is The Divorced Dad Diaries, and you can find it on all the podcast platforms. https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the-divorced-dad-diaries/id1484585003 or on my website! http://www.TheDivorcedDadDiari… | /r/Divorce_Men | 07/06/21 08:10 PM
As a 21 year old lurking in this sub, you guys have motivated me to never get married.I don't think this is what should be taken from this group, or anyone who got divorced. Marriage is not necessarily the problem. Sometime you get blinded by love and plan for the best case scenario (which makes sense of course when you're in love!) But we don't want to think about the What ifs... My divorce helped me learn a lot. A lot about me, a lot about others, and also a lot about what to do and not to do. Prenups don't seem that silly anymore. I mean, when is the best time to discuss these… | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/05/21 01:24 AM
Any data points on how long it can take before court approves your divorce?I'm in Canada though, but it took a long time here as well... I would say maybe 8-9 months? I guess it depends of the load on their side, but it's definitely not quick! | /r/Divorce_Men | 12/03/21 04:04 PM
wife is ruining me financially. i need adviceUsually, the amount that is set is based on financial data from both sides. How did they come up to that number? | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/02/21 04:39 PM
She left and wants our teenager 50%, but he doesn't want to go?Based on my experience, he can decide where he goes at his age. You can (and should) encourage him to see his mom as much as possible, but kids at that age can make up their minds and don't listen much! With my son, he is living with me full time, and made it clear that he can go back as much as he wants, and his mom knows that. I tried to help him go more towards him, but it was working. So, I removed myself from the equation and let them know that they can talk and plan all they want. I have n… | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/02/21 02:53 AM
Change of nameAll I can add to this, and this is based on my own personal experience. Kids are smart. Very smart. They pick up on things without us knowing. And they'll figure out the truth and who manipulating who. So at the end, they will see and realize what's happening, and that will hurt your ex more than she thinks. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/01/21 05:04 PM
Change of nameI'm sorry to hear about your story. It must really hurt, on top of everything. Did you by any chance asked them (maybe the oldest one?) why they want to change their name? At that age, I doubt that it came from them. It really looks like some kind of parental alienation happening with their mom. It definitely sounds like this would benefit the mom more than the kids. I don't even know if my kids would know they can change their names! The part i don't understand and that sounds weird is that the… | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/01/21 04:38 PM

In desperate need of helpAs a divorced dad, it often feels like we start from way behind moms. We often have to defend ourselves and prove that we're good and "fit" and deserve our kids, when for the moms, it's often the opposite. But as mentioned by others, I would definitely try to get different counseling. Lawyers should be there to help avoid those situations | /r/Divorce_Men | 12/11/20 10:55 PM
Additional men’s support beyond RedditNo problem! And that's the thing I found too and the reason why I started this podcast. There's a lot of information about there practical things of divorce, like finding a lawyer, selling the house, agreements, and all, but nothing about how you feel, how to manage the stress, emotions, etc. That's what I focus on more and try to at least share my story and thoughts. | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/09/20 08:34 PM
Do you have any advice when choosing between 2 lawyersI was in a similar situation before my divorce. I realized there were 2 types of lawyers out there. There's the one that will fight for every little dollar they can get from your spouse, and there's the one that will fight for you but be fair. So it depends where you stand and what's your goal for this one. I went with the second type, and it worked out well I think. Could I have had more money and end up better financially with the first type? Probably yes. But we would have been through a long… | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/09/20 03:42 PM
Finances After DivorceIt is not easy to make decisions after all this, I was in the same boat. What I decided to do is rent an apartment short term to see how it goes, what my options are, and start putting a bit of order in my life. Once this is done, I feel like it's easier to make a decision as far as houses, where to live, etc. You don't have the pressure of doing this right off the bat, when there's so much still happening. | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/09/20 03:36 PM
Additional men’s support beyond RedditI have a podcast that is for Divorced men and dads where I talk about my journey and also interview and discuss with other men and resources who can help in different areas. If you're interested, feel free to reach out to me. | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/09/20 03:33 PM
