Reflect on your experiences and learn from them. Humans are the king of animals because we’re conscious; we learn and adapt. Be intentionally conscious in your actions on the micro and macro scale. Think about why you do things, what you want in life, and how you can take steps to achieve those things. Be proactive not reactive.

Welcome, always glad to help. If it’s an obvious white elephant or it comes up in conversation I’d just apologize. If it seems like he’s gotten over it I just wouldn’t bring it up.
