Similar situation, but the opposite. I have a flat butt (thank you genes) and male and got made fun of in High School to early college as a busser and later server at a restaurant. The girls at the hostess stands made fun on me, and I said, "what would it feel like if I made fun of girls with flat chests?" They got very quite after that (sexual harassment is a little more serious in the work place though and restaurants are little high school microcosms).

Yeah a questionnaire debriefing asking would have been more informative, compared to a ostensibly volunteered response from an n=73. I've run many studies and people don't tend to volunteer information without being promoted (especially at the end of a study). This is certainly worth considering--even in and of itself--but I don't think it explains everything, though it could account for a good amount of the trend. (Because you would also have to explain overweight thing, and linking that with hormones becomes tenuous and stretched when sociological responses are more plausible and accessible).
