Sartre was never in a concentration camp, though he was briefly held as a prisoner of war in 1940.

Confabulation from early introduction to him, particularly his "republic of silence". What were the conditions like? In R.O.S. it definitely was painted as at the very least a transformative experience. At any rate, I think downplaying the hardship of the jews and the fucking holocaust was what was especially ironic and facepalm about this tumblr--it sort of undermines the whole thing. Even if you say he didn't experience hardship, then this whole privileged regardless due to immutable characterstics falls apart (case in point, Sartre).

He definitely experienced hardship, it's just that it wasn't Auschwitz-level hardship. And I have many members of my family who experienced worse and longer than he did; my grandmother was a military nurse and was a prisoner of war for longer than Sartre. He was freed early because of his connections, a collaborationnist writer vouched for him. That didn't stop him from playing "résistant" at the last minute, though.
