Here's to many more point of clarification - an open diff sends power to the wheel on the axel that has the least amount of resistance. If you tried to do a burnout on a car with an open differential only one wheel would be smoking. A "closed" (or "welded") differential sends equal power to both wheels at all times. These are used on cheap, poorly built drift cars. The wheels turn at the same speed all the time, which is not good for regular driving. Here's to many more Drift and rally are two totally different animals. I was a huge WRC fan growing up, but those guys are on another level with the skills/reflexes they have. The point of Rally is to go faster then everyone else on a variety of terrain (dirt, gravel, pavement, etc), the point of Drifting is to make your "run" with the most style (no points for finishing in "1st place"). You want a limited slip differential for better predictibility, and usually the center differential is tweaked to provide more power to the rear end. AWD supercars are typically set up this way (1:5 center, LSD in rear) for better handling and performance, and maximizing traction for their powerful engines. The "drifting" comes from breaking traction in the rear wheels, which requires power delivery (from a powerful engine) to the rear wheels. It's not possible in a Honda. You can pull the handbrake and slide it, but that's about it. 1	Since we're all sharing our cars (and b/c I saw a fellow MK2 VW bro here) I figured I'd share my garage. MK2 Jetta ('91) with a 1.6D engine and a 5MT - Low&Slow but an awesome daily beater. She's duct-taped together but just won't quit. Bout to hit 200k miles Audi B5 S4 ('01.5) 6MT stage 2 with just about everything but the turbo's, brakes, and fueling touched on the car. Really fun ride but I'm thinking of getting rid of her since I can't really wrench on it myself. 101k miles and pristine interior, but these cars can be serious money pits.
