Thoughts on Bell Hooks?I haven't read bell hooks in decades, but as I recall, in the mid-1990s she uncritically supported or cited some batshit crazy Afrocentric Pseudoscience (like Ivan Van Sertima). Gross and Levitt might have pointed this out in their book Higher Superstition: The Academic Left and Its Quarrels with Science. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 23/03/26 02:01 PM

How Widespread is Employment Discrimination Against Men in LGBT Organizations?re: "Lgbt commubity is now a girls club that would accept the straifhtest girl ever with shirt hair over a gay ass man." That's so true! But where/how should we start to re-build our community? Should we try to take back the organizations that were stolen from us by women? Or should we build new ones? | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 19/01/24 10:35 AM
The fact that Gillette lost 8 billion dollars and what it says about mens rightsI stopped buying Gillette (and P & G products more generally) as soon as that ad came out. I use some cheaper disposable razors and Nivea shave cream instead. I don't plan to ever return to Gillette. | /r/MensRights | 19/01/24 10:12 AM
How Widespread is Employment Discrimination Against Men in LGBT Organizations? This is very true. Back in 2017 (I think), the Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) LGBT student group on campus actually formally adopted a policy that white gay men were no longer oppressed. So while gay white men could join the group, they could not represent the group in any official capacity. This political inequality was not enforced on ANY other identity group, just gay white men. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 19/01/24 09:53 AM
How Widespread is Employment Discrimination Against Men in LGBT Organizations?Again, you make excellent points, Low_Rich_5436! As far as political representation goes, I would note that from back in the early 1970s, lesbians asked for equal leadership positions (like co-chairs, one women, one man) inside mixed organizations that were nevertheless numerically male dominated. Not only did gay organizations have more men, there were simply VASTLY more men identifying as gay than women identifying as lesbian. Surveys showed this time and time again. Of course, gay men, to the… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 19/01/24 08:09 AM

Have you ever been shamed by another man (or men in your life) for showing certain emotions? Why is this a "low-effort submission"? It raises questions about how men treat other men in this regard, and I would very much like to hear what others think of this, or what experiences they can share to shed light on it. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 07/05/23 07:20 AM
misandry in LGBT community? The discrimination against cis gay men has become quite extreme within some LGBT community organizations. And I am not talking about nebulous "microaggressions" here. I am talking about one of the most severe forms of discrimination. At one such community organization, an archives created 50 years ago by gay men, the last eight years has seen systematic employment discrimination against men. Straight women are hired over any men (this is actually implied in their HR equity statement on job posti… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 23/12/22 04:06 AM

NOMASIf you agree that men's issues need advocates, what form do you envision that taking? What will these "advocates" be able to say and do that won't lead to the kind of dismissal you made above? | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 26/05/21 01:57 AM

What are some examples of female privilege being instead twisted into female oppression and victimization?MadCervantes, do you actually have an interest in men's issues? Do you have a leftist analysis to share? If so, I would love to see it. Name dropping philosophers doesn't cut it. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 26/04/21 05:21 AM
Music about men's rights?The only song I can think of is possibly Wire's "Men 2nd." It's an old post-punk song from 1978. I take it to be an anti-gynocentric message. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 13/10/20 03:17 AM
Thoughts on how men are treated in LGBT spaces online.I agree with you completely. I think gay men are oblivious to the risks that straight men face in heterosexual relationships. As a gay man, I think straight men have it a lot worse these days! It's not that gay men fail to recognize discrimination against themselves from feminist or LGBT communities, it's that they are unaware of the discrimination faced by men more generally, so they are unable to connect their own mistreatment to that of others. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 06/08/20 01:30 AM
Thoughts on how men are treated in LGBT spaces online.I think the mistreatment of men in the LGBT "community" goes well beyond the online environment. I have volunteered at an LGBT community archives in Canada for many years. Historically, we have been a volunteer-driven organization, and in many ways still are. But in the last six years we have had funding for staff positions. In the past six years there have been at about 27 advertised positions, 90% of which have gone to women, mostly straight women. Moreover, among the "best" positions (i.e. fu… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 05/08/20 04:40 AM
What do you think of the slogan "The Future is Female"?Obviously not. I attributed that goal to one person, and one person only, in the above remarks. And that wasn't the person wearing the t-shirt. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 09/03/20 03:27 AM
What do you think of the slogan "The Future is Female"?The slogan is explicitly female supremacist, so I reject it. My understanding is that the slogan "The Future is Female" originated, or at least was popularized, in the 1970s when the separatist lesbian feminist musician Alix Dobkin wore the slogan on a T-shirt. The next key moment in the slogan's popularization came in 1982 with the publication by Sally Miller Gearhart of a chapter called "The Future--If There Is One--Is Female" where she explicitly advocated the genocide of men. Specifically, s… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 08/03/20 08:30 PM
