I had been speaking with a girl for some time via telephone, and we had decided to split a hotel for a weekend in a city partway between our places. Leading up to this, we had met in person once, but had been in touch almost everyday for a month. Sometimes our interactions were flirtatious, typically it was nothing too serious or at great length, but it was obvious that we were interested in each other.-Okay this is fine. While speaking to her on the telephone, what were you interested in doing?…

So you're saying I shouldn't try to mold my values to fit another persons, but to make my own values and intentions clear even if other people don't like it?

Insecurity is the highest reason. I know some guys that act nerdy but they have more understanding of themselves and their desires than many tough guys at parties (the nerdy guys don't act like they are total pimps, etc. etc.) It sounds like this guy is insecure about himself so he has to come up with some idiotic reason he's not doing well for himself.

Thanks for reading my post. Firstly, I'd like to point out that when I (and the book) talk about "nice guys", I'm referring to the phrase that the author coins for the entire topic of this discussion. "Nice guys" have a whole range of elements that comprise them into that term, and I really do not give the book justice by trying to give you a small example for the sake of this response, so I will leave you with this: Nice guys feel they are not good enough as a person just being themselves, so t…

Shit, that sounds like a rough upbringing. My parents divorced when I was about 4 or 5, and my mom was pretty shrill and over-protective of my sister and I. My dad is a cardiologist and when my sister and I visited every other weekend it was pretty much just us alone in the house from sun-up to sun-down, not to mention he was also very soft and cushy with us (still is). He had a very opinionated and commanding father, so I guess he wanted us kids to have any freedom we wanted and didn't want to …

That is absolutely how I feel about it. Whenever I see a guy that women die over, it is almost always the laid-back, chill guy that just lets everything roll off his back. This doesn't mean he's a push-over either, but he is willing to sacrifice a bit of high ground in order to meet people in the middle. I think if you act like a PUA master then people will be more willing to dismiss you as a joke. Like you said, just being upfront and acting with authority and assertiveness is the way to go. A …

Thank you for the extensive detail in your post. I'm young (turning 21 soon) and thankfully I've never gone out of my way too much for any one girl. Did you happen to have divorced parents and a mother that babied you too much/father that you didn't connect with? I seem to think that is where a lot of nice guy traits stem from.

You should read it just for general knowledge in case you find any of your own habits in the book. Based on my own life, even though I'm young, it gives me some guidelines as to what I could be doing wrong or improving things that could be better

Sorry, I've seen that acronym used around this sub a lot, it's a book by a psychologist that see's clients who are codependent on women. Sort of like the guys that always say, "I'm a nice guy, why won't any girls date me?" that sort of thing

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
