My attorney is worried about it. Previously she had kind of blown it off as an idle threat but her in her most recent message it seems more urgent. I'm meeting with her next week to flush it out but I don't understand the grounds upon which my Ex's attorney would ask for it to be set aside outside of some bits of it not being perfectly clear. They are clear enough for us to work it out based on the law though. So if something's not quite perfectly clear, the law gives us the direction to which w…

Because of how enabled he is by his mother, he's failing high school. He's got no job prospects, he has skills but they aren't that marketable and his attitude of entitlement (which she supports and demonstrates herself) makes him somewhat unemployable. Everyone around him, teachers, etc, wishes he was more responsible because he has it in him to be a great leader. He's just got a terrible attitude and treats people badly. It's kind of terrible to stand on the outside of.

I'm not really letting her in my head, I'm just venting here instead of at her or something because I really want to tell her off. We have a younger son too so the games will continue. He's not the same kid and is much more aligned with me but unlike her - I would never really want to get in the way of his time or relationship with his mother. He knows this and really respects me for the way I handle things with her. 'She's always angry' he says 'especially at you.' I shrug and say 'I don't know…

I chose to do nothing with the message. It's just an attempt at refilling her narcissistic supply. My lack of response will make her feel more uncomfortable than participating in any argument.

It’s very hard to tell honestly.

Mediators really pressuring me to cave. Attorney is pressing me to stay put and wait out her tantrum. It’s stressful.

That’s not a bad deal except for the odd weekend. I’d counter with two weekends each and offer her the extra for the weird months that have 5.

It’s mediation. Me, her and the mediator. We were down to one final item tonight. She blew it up, started going after my buttons and found one. I didn’t even get angry I just called her out on her tactics. She said I would never trust her and I said of course I wouldn’t, it was a ridiculous thing for her to say and it disarmed my rock wall. I almost laughed. She exited the zoom immediately. 🙄

Ultimately I let her trigger me and thus gave her control. She brought chaos and I engaged. I failed at grey rocking today. I shall redouble my efforts in the future.

My attorney tells me that because child support is modifiable (both ways) that we are both entitled to each other's full tax returns each year. So I'm just as entitled to hers as she is to mine. Our Spousal support is modifiable as well so as she makes more my obligation in both areas goes down. I can see this getting very oppressive as the years go on if she doesn't hustle to improve her income the way I had to hustle to improve mine (and then in the end she told me she expected I would do bett…

The downside to that one though to could be that her income might go down because she lost her CPA license. Now the argument is that she lost if due to her own negligence and so her income would then have to be imputed at a higher level but I'm trying to get her to earn more in the first place so I'm not touching that idea.

You know why divorce is so expensive? Because it is worth it.

I got my latest bill from my attorney for just shy of 5 hours and it was $2300. She's great, I can't imagine a better attorney honestly. She doesn't charge me for every minute and I'm surprised because I would pay it. I paid that bill happily the MOMENT I received it. Literally within minutes I paid it with my CC and then I transferred the money from savings to cover it on my CC. She has been the best money I've spent in years.

She hasn't ACTUALLY denied me any information so I can't make this claim. I have the actual tax documents that we filed electronically but I don't have the actual Turbo tax file itself. It means I have to reenter things manually (which I already did this morning). Still, it is a bit unethical but so is infidelity right?

It's not as bad as it looks right now. I was being a little dramatic in the way I phrased it honestly. My intent was more to be ironic. I've got a good attorney and while I hate paying what I'm paying, so far I'm satisfied that I'm negotiating a better deal than I would get in court. I have no intention of being amicable with her now or ever. In one email she hit like 3 or 4 narcissistic buttons hard: Projection Gaslighting Stonewalling Entitlement Not to mention glossing over the absolute facts…

I actually already have it I just wanted the turbo tax file to make it easier. I've gone ahead and entered the data manually. I'm itemizing and filing separately which will force her to do the same and she doesn't have the deductions I do. I was trying to be cool and not do that but she's forcing my hand by being petty and vindictive.

Marriage with no fault laws is stupid. Keep your finances separate for both of your sakes and don't sign a contract (marriage) with such stupid laws that allow for fraud and all that.

Grow up, it's not for your ex it's for your kids. Why make their lives harder. I know you can't control how she spends it and it sucks.

Depends on the state actually.

I also just want to say - I do not want to rely simply on the family code's wording because it is unclear on her obligations. It is clear that cohabitation is a condition that could end or diminish spousal support but it is unclear on how to get there. Brene Brown says " Clear is kind, unclear is unkind" and I am asking for clarity in our agreement. I'm hoping that she will come back with some language that is somewhere in the middle to provide us with some clarity. I'm not going to die on this …

Child support is an obligation I willingly pay to care for those who are innocently caught up in this mess. I know I can’t control how she spends that. The law does have remedies for this situation but it is unclear and poorly defined requiring shitty behavior to make use of. I am not going to let it go because it is in my best financial interest and future to end it ASAP. I’m not asking for something unreasonable. I’m even willing to compromise some but I’m asking for our agreement to be clearl…

It's long term, we have agreed on a duration (a little over half the term of the marriage). I am not sure I can afford the lump sum payment and I've gone back and forth on that idea internally. I am buying her out of the marital home so cash for that sort of thing is a little challenging. I'm pretty sure she's planning to buy something going forward and I'm wondering if she might intend to buy it out of state where her 'Mr. Wonderful' is. If he were to move into a house she owned, even though sh…

She decided not to go back when I asked to go back and true up all of the shared expenses she has been ignoring in the same time frame.

It's very hard not to react with the anger and I hate I feel for her when the mediator calls with her bullshit claims that I'm not giving up nearly as much as she is.

Have you called the Dr. yourself? You're entitled to talk to him as much as your son's mother is and given the circumstances it really seems like she might be contributing more to the anxiety. I'm sure the situation is contributing to your son's mental health situation and you should recognize that fact. That being said - divorce is hard and unless you had a very tight legal agreement that you leaving the house was not abandoning your claim to it and that in doing so you were setting up a 50/50 …

I appreciate the comment about trying to win her respect - you're right. I don't know what do about my son honestly. He's been doing a lot of self harm and already been hospitalized once recently. He's been working through some intensive outpatient group therapy that included us and she even said good things about me in these sessions but when he pulls the rip chord and throws a tantrum by running away or something she just mothers him so that he doesn't have to get to understand what failure fe…

I don't particularly care for the idea of morality clauses like no sleep overs. When my kids aren't around and I want to go on a date I don't want to be bound by something stupid and controlling and I really don't care what my ex does on her time. I don't need her nose in my business and what she does is none of my business. We did put something in to curtail the kids meeting anyone new but my kids are old enough to actually talk to them about it. Let me be clear though, that was absolutely abou…
