You look great! I don’t think there’s anything about your appearance you should worry about.

I’m a woman and I’ve been single and dating for a couple of years since my last relationship ended. Dating is easy but I am very focused on finding a life partner and that is extremely difficult. My impression often is that men have such low standards for women and they make that known and that is such a turn off. What I mean is that more and more I get this sense that many men are looking for an attractive, fun, nice, decently smart woman... and that’s it. They ask me enough questions to check …

if you're too obtuse to see that women cream themselves over fit, attractive, independent guys I think there's some more nuance I'd like to explore: it's hard to walk fast or run slow. There's a set of speeds around 3ish - 4ish mph that it's just kind of awkward for most people of normal height to maintain. So while the degree of "attractive, assertive" behavior a person presents is a continuous variable, I think hitting that center point of being authentic to yourself while still being independ…

From an outside perspective, it seems like women only go for "assholes" when in reality they just happen to be attractive, assertive men. I think there's some more nuance I'd like to explore: it's hard to walk fast or run slow. There's a set of speeds around 3ish - 4ish mph that it's just kind of awkward for most people of normal height to maintain. I feel like the "highlight reel" meme is valuable, but overplayed. Think about the converse argument -- despite social media being a highlight reel, it can also make people more aware of real financial, social, gender, class, etc., inequalities. Rather than just being intellectually cognizant that such inequalities might exist, they are now presented with concrete evidence of them in an emotionally gripping way every day. ...what's the value of the truth?

Hey, sorry I missed your post. Its always frustrating talking about this stuff to others, because they conflate me being emotionally sensitive with being a manipulative "nice guy" when there's much more to it than that. Its really annoying when someone tells me "There's more to attraction than being nice..." its like we all understand that, but male emotional sensitivity impairing attraction seems problematic for society. I'm not sure where the root of the problem lies -- two sources: 1) modern …

Hey, thanks for the response. I think the point I'd like to make is that typically skewered "nice guy" behaviors you're referencing actually may be red herrings in discussions like this. "Nice guy" behaviors are certainly bad/manipulative, and contribute to male romantic frustration, but I think most people overestimate this factor's contribution. Orthogonal to the "nice guy" issue, I really do think that there is a clash of ideals in our society between many young men wanting to behave in a pro…

One can be assertive and confident without being a rude, abrasive asshole. The framework you're looking for requires observation, empathy, and experience to build, and you will get there. Are there any authors or reading resources you'd recommend...?

Easy man, it'll be okay. It's easy to get stuck in Plato's cave and have your mind in wrapped in redpill. Happens to me every once in awhile, but going and talking to other people reminds me that its all kind of an abstraction.

Out of curiosity, OP, which city do you live in? I live in Boston, and I've been going out 1-2 nights a week at least consistently for more than two years. Bars, lounges, lower key clubs, loud as hell dance clubs. This was my first time ever going out, as I'd just turned 21, and I had braced my ego for all the harsh rejections that the PUA community said was coming my way. ...never happened. I honestly don't feel like anyone's ever been rude to me at night. Girls don't to talk? They'll be sort o…

I mean, I dunno. I feel like that's the accepted wisdom around here, but I'm not trying to go for very attractive 7+ kinds of girls. I feel like I'm actually really good at the push-pull gig for 7+ girls just by instinct, but I like awkward geeky 5ish kinds of girls most, and I feel like a lot of the online PUA/seddit advice isn't productive for that kind of girl. Idk.

Yeah, I definitely feel like I do resonate with Kohen's style. Thanks for the tip! Love this quote from him: Remember, everyone has the same amount of value. When I'm talking to girls I don't do things that make me higher value then the girl, instead I just don't do the things that would make me lose value (e.g. being reactive, needy, people pleaser, etc.)

You look like a pretty normal person, man. I would definitely not ever just look at you and assume you have any kind of developmental disability. You also write pretty coherently relative to the rest of reddit's population... lol.

Ask 5 groups of people on the street outside the club for directions to some random place before you go inside. If you can walk up to a group of (possibly attractive female) strangers and ask some random stupid directions question, you can walk up and make small talk.

They are rare, and you have to get in with or become the right people. Social circles and friendships are sparse after college. IME one of the only things that can draw together a group of busy professionals is the prospect of sexual intrigue and relationships.

Hey! I actually just figured this problem out for myself, so maybe I can help. 90% of the male-hours spent in bars have guys wandering around in a state of drunken approach anxiety doing 0 approaches. Interesting realization, and I wanted to not be those guys. So I asked myself, "why do I feel anxiety in a bar? Why is it possible that there's a place that just intrinsically makes me feel anxiety?" The answer to that question, was that I was putting this massive emotional burden on myself of havi…

It is basically the social norm in western night bars/clubs for any girls to be hesitant about dancing with a stranger doing approaches on the dance floor. You look good! Its not about you, most any other guy trying that would have had a similar experiences. Dance floor game takes very high energy. Try doing approaches off the dance floor. It's much less effort. Feel better!

Definitely solid advice. I feel like I ingested too much classical pick-up theory in high school, and internalized this need to constantly be actively disinterested and not to express interest. After seeing a lot of other guys in action this year, I've been trying to make a point of being more direct. With my previous indirect style, even if literally girl I approach was down to go home with me that night, I wouldn't know, because I never was direct or escalating enough to find out. What do you …

Lol. It's so interesting... I used to read theattractionforums back in early high school (it's been like 10 years), and I remember reading about these kinds of situations. I remember having this mental picture of a sort of "bitchy" looking hot girl egoistically looking shocked that someone wouldn't pay attention to her, and trying to get your attention. But in real life, my experience has been that the hottest girl is a completely nice, friendly girl that just looks legitimately puzzled as to wh…

Hello! Well, I like kind of nerdy awkward girls, and I'm trying to figure out how to make this work. I'll definitely try out your advice of telegraphing interest more directly for the less pretty girls - that's always been something I'm uncomfortable doing.

What's the difference between going out alone, and going out with a group? As far as doing approaches, to me the difference is almost zero. Presumably, when you approach a set you're doing it by yourself either way, and they haven't seen you before. For me, the only difference is state. Going out with your friends puts you in a social mood that makes approaches easier, but I don't think anyone's actual perception of you is very different.

I used to be in the same boat as you - won't people judge me and think I'm weird and awkward for being at a bar or club by myself? But when I actually starting going out to bars and clubs, I realized that the loud, bustling environment means that nobody really knows who's with anyone, and that there's almost no difference between going clubbing alone vs. with friends.

Here is the best strategy I've come up with for going from being lame and doing no approaches to at least initiating some worthwhile interactions. Ask the next 5 girls you see if they know where the closest starbucks is. "Excuse me, do you know where the closest Starbucks is?" Then walk away. Ask the next 5 girls you see if they know any good pick-up lines. "Excuse me, do you know any good pick-up lines?" :0. I'm just saying, you can ask strangers for directions, right? So go do step (1). Easy. …

Ok. Big fucking protip: casually striking up conversations with women on your campus? Great. Blatant cold approaches on campus? Really terrible idea.

Ex-fatty ex-socially inept guy here. Points I would communicate to my ex-self: I) Just get in the habit of talking to everyone throughout your day all the time. Making small-talk with as many people as you can throughout the day is integral for me. Cashiers, waiters, bartenders, people on the elevator or subway with you... once you're just doing this naturally, regardless of whether it's a grandpa or a hot girl, you'll be surprised by how many spontaneous day game "approaches" you rack up. II) F…

Transitions are unnecessary. Nobody will ever question why you are telling them about anything. Don't talk about rape, murder, or spiders. Record yourself talking a bit conversationally, to check if you vary your pitch. If you are monotonous, consciously start varying your pitch.

It's funny, because we as people almost never have the same objective perception of ourselves that others have of us in terms of looks, personality, or intelligence. But it doesn't have to be that way at least for looks: there's no dearth of people or sites on the internet that are willing to judge your looks for you.
