Sorry, I don't know who's down voting all of your replies here. I for one appreciate your willingness to be here. I agree that sex isn't the same as race but, I will say that a lot of the ways that men are generalized are extremely similar to how black people are generalized. That's especially the case in how women assume men are dangerous and how racist would assume that a black person is dangerous (or that a community is dangerous because it has black people).

I agree with that. Not to mention, many of these redefinitions of what masculinity is are almost always focused on what men can provide to others, or to the community and not just about finding themselves.

That women feel unsafe around men is very well known, and there are far better ways to discuss it instead of a very inflammatory 'joke' in my opinion. Plus it generalizes men regardless, you can't just hand wave sexism away by saying that men who aren't scary just shouldn't take it personally. That's completely backwards expectations to any other group ever. The same thing would never be said to black people if some racist pearl-clutcher made a Black People v. Bear 'joke'.

I agree, but the least politicians on the democrat side can do right now is say that they actually want male voters. Even that seems a bit too much for them. Although, there have been a growing number of initiatives from the democrats doing exactly that so maybe it will change.

In a vacuum it might not have mattered and been a one-time thing but the fact is that it's still brought up every now and then. It's a tool meant to illustrate that women don't feel safe around men, a notion divorced from just being on the internet. So it's not a joke, plus it's just another bit of hate tacked on the metaphorical scale and it matters just as much as the rest of these little gender-war things.

I appreciate you giving examples and being willing to debate but yes, I don't think there's any changing of minds going to happen. I just don't see the person in your example as the average, that's all. That person, in my mind, is already an extreme if they know that they are doing harm to their child and continuing to do it regardless. To each their own though but I do have to agree to disagree.

Maybe I should have been more specific. I recognize that socially there still are a lot of areas where women are stigmatized against, the same is true for men, but I was specifically talking about privileges backed by law. For example, lawfully not being able to drive or vote; things like that. As for Andrew Tate, I'll accept that. I thought he was in prison now and therefore incapable of making any media; that other grifters had taken his place by now.

Yes. I think Gen Z should be more progressive. Statistically, they're more center which itself isn't bad, it's not as left as other generations but it's not like they're just conservatives. The issue is that over time generations tend to float conservative as what was progressive in their youth becomes not so progressive anymore. I think this is wrong because I'd rather society have a progressive trend over a regressive.

Right. I don't particularly favor blaming voters in cases like this, parties are just as responsible and it wasn't a good year for democrats but, seriously? I have to agree with the idea that there's a subset of people on the left like that, as much as I don't want to. It really does feel like there's a lot of people on the left who hide behind notions like punching up, or incorrectly using certain definitions of racism and sexism to hide their own racism/sexism under fighting against oppression. In reality their only spreading hate but way too few people call them out on that! It's maddening.

I agree completely. To me, any actually left person would argue against those very arguments even if they agree with the overall message. The whole point of the left was to treat people as individuals not categories. Man, the switch on abortion was crazy to me. They started using the same exacta arguments that pro-lifers used against pro-choicers on men without even blinking.

For sure, I think the people who care rectify that by seeing them as actors first and foremost, men second to that and therefore it's okay for them to do it but unmasculine for the average Joe to on the average day.

I wish many men, myself included, had that kind of strength. I'll start using this. I think saying, "yes, I am insecure. I'm not always strong, and that doesn't make me any less than it makes me human" is great. It goes a long way towards normalizing the idea that men can be insecure. That's a fantastic point of pushing men's lib.

I think the reason this double standard exist is because men need to be strong and enduring so any sign of weakness is to be punished and having an obvious insecurity looks weak. That's why people like short men who make jokes about their shortness, it makes them look confident and strong even if they inwardly are insecure about it.

There are some weak points to your contradictions, not that I'm disagreeing with the message of the post. For part 1, someone could easily argue that the reason why women are "smarter, more mature, and less violent" is because they are held to a higher standard. I think that's a generally agreed with concept in this subreddit. I'd also agree that the right hurts men more than the left in general; obviously individuals on both sides that really do try to help men exist but, ultimately it feels like politicians are more worried about how to use men rather than help them.

Not really, I didn't really expect it to 'pop-off' or anything. Traffic on this subreddit is low and as this post is, there's really only two organizations. All in all, it's really not worth much right now. It's too early to kill the child in the cradle of what could become a much better thing. I agree with the overall message. I do think that reddit isn't the best way to organize something like a protest, I don't imagine many people live in the same which reduces the actual affect of a protest.
