The fact there's one of those community context warnings gives me satisfaction.

Tangent, but I appreciate women like you being in this space supporting us. While I support tackling women's issues, I don't involve myself in women's support groups because the griping about men turns me off, and I'm aware a lot of griping about feminism happens here. You're a better person than I am.

I think it's human nature to always want some group to hate based on something visible, it's an "easy" self-defense mechanism. Sure, sometimes conservatives and rich executives flaunt their identity, but it's not something they couldn't hide, like race, sex (unless you're androgynous) or high-control religion. Progressive ideology makes it very clear this is wrong, so progressives have done a thorough job at eliminating that against the vast majority of demographics. Unfortunately, because of th…

Not sure; it's possible your comment reads as a being from a dismissive feminist, but I felt it was clear you were contributing to the point you responded to.

Yeah, something I do when I see people criticizing the logic for, say, immigrants (poisoned M&Ms bowl), I always comment to elaborate the same thing has been used for other targets like Muslims, men and Jews. I usually don't get backlash if I include men in a list like that, instead of outright specifying men, and I think I'm doing my part to help others see the issue with hateful anti-male rhetoric. I can't think of any thought exercise that has been done with men (bear, poisoned candy, etc.) t…

To your edit, yeah, unfortunately a lot of people that shortly put "Source?" are actually challenging rather than legitimately requesting. Sounds like you're asking in bad faith. I recommend adding a little more in the future to show you're not being hostile (i.e. "Interesting, where'd you read that?").

Ironically feels similar to MAGA/Trump; what he says he'll do, MAGA will claim is just a joke until he actually does it.

Surprised this hasn't been removed by Reddit automatically; I said more-or-less the same thing (except I implied I'd be the target) in a different sub, and Reddit warned me like instantly haha. But I 100% agree; someone's getting that first hit immediately, and it's not going to be our so-called enemy.

The (not) funny thing is, when we assumed women were too stupid for college and stuff, we eventually realized that was fucked up, there were a lot of external factors women weren't represented well in higher education, etc. But for some reason, we're either too stupid or outright malicious to realize that boys may be facing systemic issues within education when they're the ones falling behind. It's their fault, somehow.

You're absolutely right, I shouldn't have exaggerated with 100 years, should've been closer to 50 (and even then, there may be some things I'm overlooking). And you're correct that abuse fucks up the psyche a lot and keeps women (and men) with people not good for them. I still hold that this survey needs larger scrutiny, and that it largely doesn't apply to millenials and younger, but I should have acknowledged that it is still true on some level.

If people used their tiny brains a little, they'd realize it makes no sense in this day and age when women and men have equal rights. Why would a woman stay with someone who makes her life worse of her own free will? Do they think women are just stupid or masochistic? Or do they think marriage is something women don't consent to, that they're dragged into (and for some reason, no one is reporting the husband for blatant slavery)? Perhaps this was true 100 years ago. I have my doubts, but I'm ope…

Maybe my reading comprehension is bad this morning, but I don't see anything pro-Russia here? I see OP say You should have a solid military ready for aggressors like Russia Russia, instead of globally drafting men immediately, started by conscripting poor/uneducated/incarcerated men (this isn't a good thing unless you hate these groups of people) Russia and Ukraine are avoiding an intentional declaration of war for trade purposes If I missed something, please help me.

It's absurd that almost every effort to "help" men has a disclaimer that women have it worse. You cannot have an advocacy that doesn't put you first. This doesn't mean you have to be anti- all the other options, just that X demographic is your first priority. Gay advocacy groups aren't expected to constantly parrot trans people have it worse. EDIT: Apparently gay groups are expected to take a back-seat to trans groups, my bad. Asian advocacy groups aren't expected to re-affirm that black people …

Yeah, at most being trans-affirming makes you more accepting of submissive/gender-nonconforming men, but I personally haven't seen more acceptance of/care for men without stipulation between trans-inclusive nor trans-exclusive feminists. And no, I don't mean literally-misogynistic men, I don't expect feminists to respect them; I'm speaking of just your average Joe, especially low-income or independent men. At least within mainstream feminism (Not All FeministsTM, for the record), both still view…

I posted basically this same comment in a thread about this on a separate sub. Basically, if a woman is killed by an intimate partner every 10 minutes, a man suffers the same fate every 15 minutes. We'll see if my comment gains any traction or if it's just downvoted and ignored or hand-waved ("well, men had it coming, because they were probably abusing their murderers", or some bullshit that wouldn't fly when flipping the genders).

I don't remember all the details, but TheTinMen used to post here directly, then I think there was some sort of disagreement between him and the mods. His stuff still gets posted here sometimes, but he no longer participates here. I'll see if I can find more details. EDIT: here. I'm not gonna say I know who was right, just sharing what happened.

These are the reasons why I always choose a male therapist. It's pretty much the only time I demand a particular sex, no other profession I can think of does sex matter to me personally. A male therapist is more likely to understand my male-centric issues, and he is less likely to hate men (though unfortunately, as already discussed, men are capable of hating themselves). I'm sure most female therapists would be good for me, but I don't love the odds.

That's a major problem with the internet in general; know a few buzzwords extremely watered down, and you feel like an expert. I think this is most abundantly clear when it comes to discussion on mental health; this person is scientifically toxic, that person is literally a narcissist, etc., etc. (or the dreaded "men will do anything but go to therapy", as if that fixes half the issues we face). No, just because you watched a 10-minute overview on YT from a "therapist" influencer doesn't mean yo…

Wow! I'm looking at moving there in the near future; I really hope this sticks and that it's not struck down by MAGA nor feminist groups. I'd legit volunteer there. It should NOT be considered an attack on women to have a committee dedicated to helping boys catch up in primary education. Subscribed to the organization as well

Came back to this thread after leaving a response, but in response to your edit: while I don't think we can force who's a billionaire short of going full Communism (which is cool if you're a Communist), but a significant discrepancy between male and female billionaires would and does show symptoms of parts of the system failing women. I wouldn't write a law that says, "For every billionaire male, there must be a billionaire female", but I would advocate for finding gaps in the pipeline(?) to ide…

Yeah, the last paragraph is the real issue. Feminism is a group for women first, and that's okay; every demographic needs specialized representation. We just need feminists to let the men handle men's issues. Letting feminists handle men's issues is like letting Asians handle issues in the black community. Having allies in individuals and orgs is awesome, but the leadership should ultimately be handled by those it purports to represent.

I'm married, met my partner at church back when we were religious, and got pretty damn lucky we're compatible. If God forbid anything happens to her, I'm not sure if I'd get back in the dating game. The state of the world as it is, it's too risky getting involved with strangers; I'd only consider dating someone I had already become friends with elsewhere.

Oh, really? That's pretty legit. I probably could have been more sensitive in the way I phrased my grievance, sorry that I came off like the family has no underlying issues due to their loved ones in the military.

I know it's not you saying it, but if this was true, where are all the mental health services for the family of vets? Surely there'd be an epidemic of wives/daughters of vets suffering mental health difficulties comparable or worse to that of the vets themselves? EDIT: I realized that in trying to make my point, I was pretty insensitive to the family members of vets who actually do need help. I'm sorry; I intended to say that too often the issues the men face are downplayed.

Completely agree, just theorizing a little further. Whatever her reasons for feeling that way, disgusting to write that, and irresponsible to publish it.

Either the author is a horrible wife or she has a horrible husband, there's no in-between. No sane person in a healthy marriage would want their partner absent more, especially when it comes to childcare. Early childhood can be a logistical nightmare, imagine actively pushing out the one person who would split that responsibility with you.

It definitely provides a different result than may be initially assumed. I do see the value in only polling women, as it can demonstrate that women have their own gender preferences, and these biases swing one way or the other based on several factors. Important to know when having a discussion about whether men are the ones that decide if girls are wanted or not. But I'd be interested in seeing what preferences men have, as well as the biases of the general population.

You say that, and others hear "20% of suicide victims are women??? That's way too high!"

I think the fairest definition of feminism is "ensuring women are not treated as lesser than men." It's a part of gender equality, but only half. The other half, "ensuring men are not treated as lesser than women," is not on their radar at all. And sometimes that statement is met with animosity and vitriol. But that half is just as necessary to ensuring gender equality.

Yeah, Trump is certainly popular with a huge chunk of female voters, but he is the furthest thing from a women's rights champion. I'm struggling to even think how conservatives could spin him that way - maybe something about keeping the "dangerous" trans people away? I suppose blocking them from hazardous occupations like the military could be seen as "pro-female" in a distorted sense.

Yeah, the gap between male and female, at least in politics, is much smaller than my fellow leftists like to admit. I believe that applies generally, but politics is an easy one to objectively display the gender similarities. Abortion? 61% of men are pro-choice, compared to 64% of women. It's not "men" restricting abortion. Trump? It's about 55-45 here. A bigger gap, but still roughly 90% similar. It's not "men" putting Trump in office. Women vote more than men, period. Also, women voted for Har…

I voted Democrat, but I'd be a lot more active in supporting any candidate that at least explicitly mentions a couple men's issues without blaming men. They don't even have to actually do anything. As of now, Democrats are actively driving men away; only very principled men are staying, all the average Joes not interested in being verbally abused for the greater good will just vote red. I'm just sitting here like, "I'm only voting for you because I don't have any other choice, not because I actu…

Funny thing is, this totally doesn't work when considering male-on-female crime. "Very few men are rapists, but it happens, so we need to fix it!" "By the way, very few women falsely accuse, therefore we don't need to fix it."

This is more-or-less how I view Reddit: the regulars lean feminist but are more moderate/not outright misandrist most of the time, while a lot of mods and others in power use their position to steer the narrative to be hyper-whatever they believe (in Reddit, that's usually radical feminism, but some subs have other agendas). Healthy people just want to be left alone.

Yeah, it's hilarious (and insightful) that desiring gender-neutral equality is seen as being anti-man or anti-woman, it's a line of thinking very similar to those who claim being pro-diversity ("woke") is anti-white/straight.

Like most people who seek power, a lot of mods (more-so in large subs, but it can happen in smaller ones) tend to be very domineering and want to push their worldview on others. It just so happens that Reddit encourages a very particular type of progressive. As for the commenters, I find that while the general Reddit community leans feminist, it is much more moderate, and there are (relatively) few actual misandrists. If you're lucky, you'll even see a fair number (though unfortunately not enoug…

All things bad? No. Many things, yes, but that's mainly because of societal structures failing to support men. Less educated? Obvious with how women dominate the educational field. More criminal? Yes, since men have been traditionally expected to provide, plus there are fewer social resources to support men. Of course men will turn to More violent/aggressive? Well, when men are the only ones required to fight wars, society manufactures aggression in men. You can't have soft people be your soldie…

Along with this, even with rape being more common for female victims of war, death is significantly more common for male victims of war. And sure, it could be argued that men "signed up for it" by joining the military, but a) that's just another gender role in the same vein as women "signing up" for being a SAHM, and b) many times, especially when it's most dangerous, it's not voluntary; men are forced to fight for their country. And no, it's not just men that force other men to fight; there hav…

It's simply because cis-hetero men are the most evil demographic on the earth. Not even being white is required anymore; I see less and less concern for men of color these days. Never mind that only a few hundred thousand men are actually in a unique position of power to cause problems that all the other men and women don't; the 170 million men in America must answer for the at most 500,000 (mostly thinking CEOs, politicians and clergymen here).

I view feminism as a helpful movement for a specific group and that group alone: women. To that end I support feminism; in my opinion, feminists usually have it right with ways to improve women's lives, and it has been highly necessary historically. However, feminism should only consider women's issues. A movement cannot serve a demographic they don't put first, and feminism puts women first (and that's okay, so long as we all agree that feminism can't be the main solution for men also). So, let…

I had a conversation with my wife that basically led to this thought sometime last week (we're having a kid soon, and we were discussing the unique challenges of having either a boy or a girl). I expressed to her that there's almost no healthy advocacy for men, and that's why I'm anxious in having a son. We need a progressive platform that actually looks out for the well-being of men. Not a regressive movement (the mainstream Men's Rights group), nor a trickle-down gender rights philosophy ("Fem…
