“Part of me says I should acknowledge it” That may be due to a variety of feelings; guilt, regret, sentiment, habit etc It’s important to acknowledge those feelings but it’s more important to understand that just because you have those feelings- you don’t need to act on them. You have those feelings because you’re a decent man. Developing emotional resilience is learning to be ok with those feelings whilst having agency over them.

I know a few women who had affairs before they got divorced and they didn’t work out before their divorces- but they did pick it up after the divorce. The affairs were a confidence boost for them, just enough to make them leave their husbands. The working out was so they could upgrade on the guy/guys they were with.
