I hate to say this, but if I'm going to pay for a legal separation, is rather just spend that money on a divorce, and move out for 6 months and hope in that time she realizes that she needs to be able to support herself. I have no problem with giving her around 1300-2k a month, but not more than that

We don't own our home, and wouldn't want to put my child through something dramatic, although I would like 50/50 custody. Thinking of moving out, using the money in my savings. My thought is, using that money before the divorce might be wise, because afterwards it might be split in court. This might also put pressure on her to get a job

Thank you for the advice. I just recently stopped helping her with personal expenses, to exactly what you described, which was force her hand, but waiting to divorce until she gets employed is golden.
