I think really the frame you need to set is that sex and stuff is just a really casual/relaxed thing for you. That way you could have a thing with them and make no big deal about it + not tell anyone, they wouldnt feel bad or weird about it, and wouldnt be concerned about you overthinking it or creating awkwardness or ruining the friendship etc, cause its part of your frame that you dont do that.

I'm 2 months after my breakup of 1 year living together (I am rather youngish myself at 23) and basically what I did was FORCE myself to go out (and I find getting really drunk helps me temporarily deal with shit) and then when I was out in a social situation surrounded by heaps of other people I felt less lonely and less like I had no other options except her. The latter is a very easy trap to fall into even though you know its logically not true, its hard to actually fully believe you'll get p…

I prefer going out alone because it forces you to meet people in order to have fun, Also when people ask you who you are there with, and you say 'soloing it' they MAY think you're creepy, in which case fuck em, but most of the time they will be like MAD PROPS THATS AWESOME, especially if you've set an adventurous frame to start with before you get asked that

Yes thats true, people wont want to be friends with you if you cant provide them with something. But just because you're providing them with something doesnt mean its detracting it from yourself- for instance, if you can have good conversations with someone, you're both providing eachother with the value of your company. What you DONT want is basically the situation like with me and my ex, where it was just me bailing out of every situation she got herself into, because she guilted me into doing…

If you're making those excuses thats your own fault for lacking motivation, not the fault of having a full time job.

For 9 I kinda mean, if you want to be a world famous guitarist in a progressive-jazz-metal rockband, maybe get a fallback career first (if you like working outside/exercising become a landscaper) so you have a day job to support going for your dreams later. Even then if you dont make it due to bad luck/not working hard enough/whatever, then you still have the income to buy $3500 guitars and jam with friends

I am currently on vitamin D and C pills and I can vouch for the effects of both, in the sense that my family has naturally low vitamin D levels and I have to frequently get a blood test to test my levels to prevent osteoporosis later in life, and since taking the pills they have greatly increased. As far as vitamin C pills I tend to find if I eat a lot before getting a cold it reduces the severity/duration of it. But again these are personal anecdotes and I have no real scientific evidence to ba…

This may be true but I also feel like you may need the money to fund getting out there in a dream job, especially if its art/music (as most people my age's dream jobs seem to revolve around). I do see your point and I am willing to move on this issue, but again in my specific case (running shows/festivals as a job) I really feel like I need the day job that I have now to financially back it. I am still pursuing that though and have some stuff in the works, but I feel like that was made clear on …

This, so much this. As stated again I'm a 23 year old and I suppose the closest cliche I meet is metalhead, but I recently went to a japanese bathhouse bar with a 40 year old dude from work and his girlfriend and some of his friends. It was an awesome night and now I have a new really cool and unique date location to take girls to that want something a little different. It could have been the most horrible boring night ever as well though, but the worst thing then is I'm down like 50 bucks and p…

Wow guys I really had no idea this post would get so much attention. Few things I would like to clarify- I am reasonably young. I'm 23, and I obviously dont know it all. the whole purpose of this list is to prevent ME personally making the same mistakes I've made over again. I do agree with the fact that a list of negatives to not do is not as good as a list of positives TO do. But the issue personally is I know what I want to do, I just forget the things that I SHOULDNT be doing them or convinc…

I'm going to have to agree with you there. Once again though I'd like to say its specific to my current situation, I know what I WANT to do, but what I often overlook is not making the mistakes again. I had no idea this post would get so much attention

Good summary. But let me explain. I was taking a shit at work while I wrote most of this into my phone today. It seemed appropriate.

I did years ago, and it was because of my anxiety disorder. I started but found it really challenging and emotionally taxing and dropped it after the anxiety stuff stopped being so bad. The reason I mention it though is a lot of my good friends swear by the benefits, and oddly meditating is a theme that you see come up SUPER consistently among self help resources, so yeah dont take my word for it but instead the word of people who probably have way more idea of what they're talking about

As stated, these are personal rules that I intend on following in the future. They are generally quite specific to certain issues I have had in the past. I wasnt implying that everyone should follow them, but this is my new ruleset and I merely put it up for people to take from it what they will. To address your points though, cheating- why would you be with someone if you intend on doing this? The trust issues and the emotional torment you'd put them through could be completely avoided by not d…

Yeah this, basically. You were just her bitch the whole night. Starting at the very start you'd already fucked it. How you could have done it differently was, when she was bitching about being lonely, be like 'well I was going to go out and do x (make something up) so you can come with if you want'. That would have set a decent stage for the rest of the night, as you would have her coming along into YOUR choice of what she wanted to do. Then if she persisted and was like 'no come to mine' etc by…

You're approaching it the wrong way dude. Just go out and meet people, talk to anyone who seems nice. And leave it at that. The reason you're struggling is because you're desperately trying to find a girl to replace her. Which draws a comparison, and due to your history, no-one can win that. Then your mindset winds up being 'not interested' and you just miss your ex even more cause you just found another girl who cant compete. So fuck all that shit. Get out there and meet people, hot girls, ugly…

Nah I've lived out of home since I was 16, and in Australia where i live you need a certain amount of logged hours as a learner, 120 hours when I got my learners licence (must have a full licenced driver- non probationary so usually 22-23 years old min, with you to drive, and sign off on the hours). So basically I had no-one until recently I was legally allowed to drive with and get the experience. At the age of 21 the hours become irrelevant and you can go for the test, but I never saw any poin…

Things go up and down, yeah :P but if you compare it week by week, you can see yourself giving less fucks over time. And time flies when you're out doing shit and keeping busy. So even that provides inspiration, I would like to think in 2-3 months from now neither of us will be bothered by our breakups.. at which point our bettered selves can go on to meet someone else better for us should that come to chance.

I hear ya dude. I got dumped by my mrs of a year that I lived with for 4 months 2 weeks ago. Because until I was on anxiety meds that actually worked in octoberish last year. But was still too much of a pussy to do stuff because I hadnt up til this point. Basically her reasoning was 'you're not going anywhere and you're scared of life. You have all these plans but you're just a dreamer, you cant do any of it.' In 2 weeks and a couple of days, I've lined up casual labor work at my old job, booked…

Yeah I have to agree that its totally a crutch, obviously the reason I'm doing it is because I'm too socially awkward to do it convincingly without. But as far as this metaphor is concerned there is no shame in using a crutch for a while if you have a broken leg :) Well, also cause I wanted to go out and get messy, and that was my whole plan. Plus if you're at a club environment I think I'd personally feel a bit rapey running game on drunk chicks whilst sober. But obviously the eventual goal is …

Yeah man thats the one. And I'm starting to realise the intention of going out has to be simply to have fun and be social, no more no less. For someone such of myself who doesnt naturally possess these skills, and as such had to learn them, its both really rewarding just for the sake of making social connections, and developing the skills required to do so. The rest will follow. I did go into a lot of detail of what actually happened with the girls as this is what this reddit is about, and hones…
