I mean I'm pretty sure you're just equally as bitter. So it's either end up (1) alone and have no one to take care of you or (2) alone and maybe some kids to take care of you or (3) together with a life partner and even more kids to take care of you / get involved in their grandchildren's lives I had an old uncle who died alone and it was really sad and depressing. I guess I'm saying it's likely worth the shot because the alternative guarantee is bad enough

Not sure about any of this but when it comes to social interactions, often the best outcomes come from acting on that uncertain feeling, as you say, in your stomach, anxious about the reaction. 10 years ago this stuff wasn't as widely known and so being an asshole was a pretty effective way to assert dominance and set yourself apart Now that the internet and dating advice are more known I think lots of girls have their sensors up for fake asshole behavior. They probably ran into someone exactly like you're describing and realized they learned it from a website and so now they're careful about it.
