You don't seem to understand what "standpoint epistemology" actually means: it doesn't merely assert the primacy of the "victimized" perspective, it posits a condition of "double consciousness" to belong to the "oppressed" group which asserts that the "victim" has more legitimacy in representing BOTH it's own perspective, as well as the perspective of the "oppressor"; it quite literally declares that women, on account of her being "victimized" by men and boys, has a deeper understanding of men a…

Because of my negative experiences with men, SA, bullying, and so on, I found myself more willing to sympathize with women. I was sexually abused by my grandfather, I'm more willing to empathize with women too, so don't feel bad about that. That said, thanks for asking, there are two books off the top of my head: - The Boy Crisis, Warren Farrell - The War on Boys, Christina Hoff Sommers However, I'd say I'm more concerned about the general treatment of boys and young men as hazards to "fix" rath…

What hasn't 'patriarchy theory' corrupted? I can't even read a book literally called "Broken Boys / Mending Men: Recovery from Childhood Sexual Abuse" without having my maleness called into question by this dogma.

Could you provide the proper intersectional definition of "patriarchy"?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/07/22 12:42 PM

Worse still: when they recognize that these kinds of sufferings do effect men and boys (i.e. "the patriarchy harms men and boys too"), it is only in order to make the argument that men and boys are responsible for that suffering.

See, I get why some victims blame men. I can even empathize with it. But it is still wrong. It is unashamedly prejudice and I can't (for the sake of my sanity) abide it. Exactly. And thank you for reading that, it's difficult for me to revisit what I wrote now in retrospect; frankly, I neither expected to be understood nor do I feel justified in being so honest as I was in this post. He was perfectly coherent in the interview you're referring to. There is a world of difference between presenting an argument with emotion and arguing from emotion. Noam Chomsky, for example, is incredibly boring, and at the same time, much of what comes out of his mouth is entirely based on his emotional biases.

Yes. They explicitly regard their role in indulging the fetishistic self-loathing of men who are clearly suffering from psychological maladies as "reparations for the patriarchal oppression of women throughout history". You're saying that sociological statements are subjective, i.e. lacking clear criteria which could definitely prove or disprove them. The only state of existential perfection is death (or more accurately the absence of being). Nothing and everything are both ontological impossibilities: perfection cannot exist because in order for a thing to exist that thing must be something and cannot therefore be "everything" or "nothing". Make sense? The only state of "equality" (or to use the more fashionable term, "equity") which is possible IS DEATH, everyone is different from the moment they begin to be something, they can only be equa…

The "anti-feminist" stuff is merely an objection to the following premise (which all feminist explicitly believe): society was created BY men FOR men at the expense of women. That is the fundamental presupposition of feminism... and it's an obscene and apocryphal claim. "trans women’s mere existence is considered a threat" This part is interesting, considering the premise of her article is to justify her belief that "men's mere existence a threat", which is precisely the belief held by those who regard trans-women as men.

There is no such thing as both a radical and a psychologist. Anyone who declares themselves in the name of a political ideology should never be considered a psychologist; a psychologist is one who concerns him/herself primarily with people as they ARE, which is to say, a psychologist is concerned with people as individuals.

Society is meant to be transcended by individuals. I find the idea that individuals should and/or do exist for the sake of their societies completely apocryphal. I am not public property, my humanity simply isn't contingent upon social systems. The gender status quo you're referring to is a consequence of, perhaps not exclusively but certainly to a large degree, the biological realities of male and female. What do you propose should be, or more precisely CAN be, done to subvert a social system w…

Okay, we should start by defining the essential term here. Depending on the context in which it's applied, the meaning of the term"intrinsic value" will be different. By "reproductive value" I am referring to a biological value, which is far from the same thing as "human value" in the existential sense. I do not believe that humans should seek to be defined by their biological, and therefore evolutionary value; I believe that human value refers to something transcendent within the human individu…

Ya. There is really no equivalent category for males as the "tom-boy" category for females. This is because women can perform, at least to a relative degree, both masculine and feminine roles; ergo: women can be working-mothers, they can both be economically productive while retaining their essential reproductive role. This is not true of males. The reality is that males have no intrinsic reproductive value, whatever reproductive value a man is to find will be determined by a woman and in MOST* …

Men, collectively, have two possible states in society: 1) invisibility; 2) monster. A man, individually, can find a third state; however his ability to be perceived as something other than invisible or a monster is contingent upon his productivity.

Could this be any clearer? Isn't it clear that these bureaucracies are pursuing a strategy of undermining the ability of men to function properly in their communities by hindering their capacity to support women and children who, in lieu of local economic development, will become dependent upon the UN for survival? Peterson provides a starting point for people, he simply inspires people to start thinking about their own lives out of a place of (in my opinion) genuine care. I completely agree, provided that ALL perspectives regarding the subset are considered. Violence is an almost ubiquitously male problem, at least with respect to THE MOST violent people; and thus it seems logical to me that we must consider the fact that the vast majority men are not violent and ask those men for their perspective on what makes them different from the radical minority of men who are violent. The feminist perspective is just not helpful in addressing a male issue.

This is because the place of a man in society is a lot less sure than the place of a woman in society. Personally I tend to start from a place of mistrust with respect to pharmaceuticals, for a litany of reasons not least of which being that they tend to treat symptoms rather than addressing the cause of symptoms; but hey that's just me. Honestly, I'm a little surprised feminists wouldn't support such an intervention given that it implies the cause of abusive behavior to be endemic to male neurology generally as opposed to an underlying subjective psychology produced by particular developmental c…

I REALLY want to know what they mean by "educate your son". It's quite clear that feminists simply DO NOT understand violence, and they sure as hell don't understand men.

Why does no one in the feminist movement simply ask: "hey, why don't we just ask non-abusive men why they aren't abusive and then compare life experiences of those men with the minority of men who are abusive? Why aren't the vast majority of men committing violence against women? Are there categorical differences between abusers and non-abusers that might hint at some tractable prevention strategy?" Like at no point has anyone questioned why women are the only ones allowed to speak on the issue …

A majority of men in prison for raping women were sexually violated by adult women when they were boys and didn't get the help they needed. Citation needed. Definitely agree that the majority of violent offenders aren't mentally well, that practically goes without saying; however your specific claim that "majority of men in prison for raping women were sexually violated by adult women when they were boy" is definitely off.

Save for a few debatable areas (i.e. family court, due process in certain contexts, and bodily autonomy protections equivalent to those established for females), males do not lack any legal rights; the social movements you referenced cannot rightly be compared to the current situation given that those fought explicitly discriminatory legal persecution/exclusion on the basis of race, sex, and sexuality. This has really always been the standard regarding male emotional expression. I've been seeing many people say things like: "boys are taught that anger is the only acceptable emotion". This is not true, the reality is moreso the following: "boys are taught only to express emotion IF it serves a utilitarian purpose", for example: aggression in tackle football, vulnerability in poetry, and compassion in dealing with women and children, etc. Male emotions are only valid when they are of use, and th…

Most violence is perpetrated by males, that does not make it acceptable or reasonable to treat all males as though they are guilty of violence. I'm opposed to the prescription of shame and guilt to individuals on the basis of their innate characteristics, it really is that simple. Yes, the psychological harm imparted by this kind of treatment to traumatized boys will be worse than the harm to boys with intake innocence, but that doesn't change the fact that it will harm everyone to some degree.

Believing anything on the basis of no or bad evidence is wrong. I cannot prove that God doesn't exist, therefore I should accept that God does exist on the basis of "faith"? All questions start with an admission of ignorance, should the attempt at answering a question heed no empirical results the only correct conclusion one can draw is "inconclusive". I think we're in agreement. Ya, I'm gonna need a bit more information on this issue. I'm American, so our system of social security is predicated on individual investment prior to retirement; in a marriage if one spouse dies before receiving the maximum payout, the remainder of those benefits go to the remaining spouse (which is most definitely what the deceased spouse would want). Men tend to die sooner than women do, and women tend to invest less money in social security on account of their working less because they crea…

It is sexism. Which is, in fact, a gender neutral term. Sexism, where ever it occurs, makes victims of everyone. Of course the degree to which certain people suffer from a form of bigotry varies; for example: the primary victims of historical American racism are people of color, but does anyone seriously believe that white people lived better lives when notions of hatred and supremacy filled their hearts?

You are 100% correct in all of this. Let me just say this: as a man, I intuitively feel that the well-being of women and children is paramount. I have never felt the "women and children" first policy to be unfair, or even unreasonable; if you could not live without someone, it makes perfect sense to risk death or injury for the sake of preserving the lives of those without whom life would be existentially meaningless and re-productively lonely. Okay, those are two valid areas in which men are not treated properly; but here's what I don't understand: why are we decrying the comparative treatment of men regarding issues related to homelessness and suicide in comparison to the treatment of women regarding those same issues? Ah... but the grass is always greener; you can only know that which you're able to experience, in your case, that means you'll only ever know life as a man. I would disagree that men have it worse then women by the reasoning you have articulated, even if it were useful to identify "who has it worse", it is not possible to quantify experience because experience is by definition subjective; a claim regarding objective truth can only be verified with objective evidence, therefore, any attempt to compare the experiences of men and women is an epistemological impossibility.

Yes, the justification for that decision would be relevant. I'm just curious, what are your personal biases here. I'm a male CSA victim, that's my bias. So what's your background?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates08/06/20 07:41 AM

Have to? Absolutely not. HAVE TO? Hell no, the secondary concerns of the people around me shouldn't legislate my life, it is not my responsibility to manage the prejudices of others; if you can't understand that, then I don't see the purpose in continuing this dialog.

I was molested by a Grandfather starting when I was 7, and ending when I was 10 as a result of his death. I have some concerns about this kind of research stemming from my experiences, if that makes sense.

Let's look at these boys as traumatized victims who we as a society failed to protect. Let's see them as people, not just potential threats. Let's acknowledge our responsibility towards them. Are we going to show them unicorns as well?

As an adult survivor of multiple forms of abuse, and someone that's made it my life's goal to stop that cycle, I would have done anything to have the support they're suggesting when I was a child. I know already that the chances of me being an abuser are vastly higher than someone that isn't a survivor of abuse. Even if I have zero intention of abusing, just not knowing what healthy relationships look like can lead me to using the tools my parents used. Ya, you're more virtuous than me; I'm not …

It could be useful by helping boys not turn into what they hate, and thus hating themselves. It could be useful by providing the needed support for male vicitims of sexual abuse. You say there's very little research on this topic and then condemn this paper for trying to research it. I've never even been to a single counseling session for my CSA, I've also never had the desire to hurt anyone. I'm so glad I didn't go through this "early prevention" program, because if I did I'd have to question w…

Why do you assume that questioning the prevalence of racial bias is synonymous with supporting it? Hypothetically let's say the world is defined by systemic racism, presumably we'd want to change that fact and presumably we one day would. At that point would celebrating the lack of systemic racism in the world be an act of racism?

Just want to throw my opinion in the ring: I don't want to live in a world without women, women are eminently necessary without whom I don't think life would have any purpose. In general, we need to stop using words like "redundant" to describe groups of people, it's dehumanizing, disgusting, and completely insane. - Sincerely, a bisexual man who leans more homo than hetero.

Yes, in my opinion (barring extreme situations), violent crime is the only offense that warrants prison time. Drug use in particular should be treated as a public health issue rather than a criminal issue, it's fucking insane that we treat drug addicts in a similar fashion to how we treat violent offenders. What is a drug addict guilty of anyway? Essentially its self-harming behavior, so by the logic of our current legal system, should I be sentenced to prison because I used to burn myself?

The difference is that ethnic genocide is actually technically feasible, talks of gendercide can only realistically lead to the destruction of a sexually dimorphic species, additionally a culling of the male sex would only be possible if men allowed it to happen (that physical confrontation wouldn't last very long). Human psychology simply doesn't perceive women as a mortal threat to men, which is why supporters of male gendercide aren't taken seriously by most people, misandry is most often pla…

If public intellectuals used the phrase "melanin poisoning" to describe inherently "toxic black" blacks, they would be called a racist and worse. Those accusations would of course be right. Ya true, but here's the irony, by saying "testosterone poisoning" in reference to "male violence", they actually ARE saying "melanin poisoning". Who is responsible for the violence in black communities? Women of color? No, men of color of course. So I'd argue there isn't actually much difference between the t…

Right? "Ally" is a term that makes me cringe every time I hear it. I pointed out the problem inherent in the expectation for men to consider themselves mere "allies" to women on several feminist subs by making the following personal argument: As a person who was sexually abused as a kid, how it is accurate (let alone reasonable) to expect me to call myself a mere "ally" in the fight against sexual abuse? How am I not exactly as implicated in that fight as everyone else? I was mostly accused of c…

I read that book, first of all let me just say, its not very well written. But there are some rather disturbing depictions of "genital" based violence... if you catch my drift. The book attempts to illustrate the "opposite" of patriarchy, which implies that the frankly demonic world it illustrates is analogous to the way women are/have been treated. Which is completely fucking insane without any historical merit. I was reading reviews over on r/GenderCritical and its honestly disturbing, there s…

I'm not surprised, and frankly I don't know if "hope" is justifiable given the state of things right now. This needs to change, but Jesus Christ, its like arguing with a theist who asks you to "prove that God doesn't exist". It's like, why the hell does the burden of proof fall upon me?

Exactly, which is actually an evolutionary framework and not one that has been brought about by any conscious social movement; however its important to recognize that a thing is not moral simply by its natural justification, we should be aiming for a more conscious society. You make a good point, "brotherhood" is only extent in the face of immediate collective necessity, the moment that necessity abates men begin to individuate and divide as a class. That what I find so interesting about feminis…

Ya, there's always a racial dimension utilized in those conversations. Which, I mean come on, do we really want white people to be left with the only option of talking among themselves? Genuinely, here are the left's proposed options to white men with problems: 1) Shut up. You can't talk to us about your problems due to your privilege, and you can't talk to each other about your problems because that could result in white supremacy. Literally, that's the only option they provide.

The weight must be staggering. The weight is staggering. Do people not think men who were abused by men don't internalize some notion of male toxicity? Do people think that a boy who'd been molested by his grandfather hasn't already internalized a frankly inhumane image of what it means to be a man? As that boy, now 21, I assure you, I don't need to be lectured about "toxic masculinity". What I needed was an alternative view of what it means to be a man, a compassionate view of what it means to …

There are ironically a lot of similarities between feminist "we are helping girls" and conservatives/chivalry where men have to sacrifice themselves for women. I blame it on the fact that these feminists don't interact with or listen to men, and that there are almost zero men in the academic field. Very good point. When you take a step back and try to be objective, it's almost hilariously ironic how similar many feminist views are to the views of a decidedly sexist pre-twentieth century world.

Right, which is kinda funny because it reaffirms regressive social attitudes that feminist ideas claim to oppose on paper. Though in practice, all I've seen from the feminist movement is the basically systemic implementation of this regressive attitude.

My understanding is that in China, women are working in mines. They're also fighting hard for better workplace safety rules. Which is usual: women in a dangerous workplace do fight for more safety, which benefits men, too. Very true. The process of unionization was, to a large extent, a direct consequence of women's introduction to the working class.

As with anything else, its a mixed bag that requires nuance. I grew up playing football, dad was a coach, the whole 9-yards on the stereotypical masculine upbringing. I enjoyed football for a few years, and now regard it as a crucial and positive aspect of my socialization. But I wasn't really allowed to do other things when I wanted to, which is obviously quite negative.
