Damn, same here. The last few guys I've dated have been this way, they'd go on and on about their own interests/lives/problems for ages without ever stopping to ask about me. It felt like I was being talked at rather than having a conversation with them. Then they'd get mad if you tune out or get distracted.

My last serious boyfriend was somewhat similar. He was a great guy - very kind, smart, and funny, we shared many common interests, etc. But he was also bad with money, he was always stressed out about it and barely scraping by. And he was also in his late 20s with no real change in sight. Because he was always stressed about it, that took a toll on our relationship, plus it was disheartening that we could rarely ever go out on dates because of it, and the one time that we went on a vacation toge…

I understand your point about the dangers of posting pictures of kids on social media, but would you say the same thing if someone only has a limited number of trusted friends on Facebook (or whatever site) and keeps their posts on the highest privacy settings? Otherwise, I agree, I feel somewhat uncomfortable about some of those family vloggers on YouTube with hundreds of thousands of subscribers who post their daily comings and goings. I also agree about the last point, but there's a differenc…

I kind of see that perspective. I'm pretty sure there's also a statistic that says couples who live together before marriage are more likely to get divorced? I'm sure you can still show your value in a relationship without living together. You should probably also be clear about what you both want in a relationship rather than just saying "oh, well let's just see how it goes" etc. and hoping that living together will make him want to marry you, or having sex with him and doing "girlfriend" thing…

Thanks for the reply, that's a good perspective.

Thanks for sharing your story, that was really sweet :) I think it is important to give 100% to a relationship, although I can see how people would be cautious. I've gone out of my way to be the "perfect girlfriend" in relationships before - cook, clean, do nice little things, buy presents, etc. - and had guys take advantage of that. But I think that's part of the risk of dating and being vulnerable.

Well said. I know a lot of RP men are vehemently against marriage and will reap the benefits of "spinning plates" for as long as they can, but I think it's our job to filter those guys out and set boundaries for ourselves.

Yeah definitely, and that's probably something that should be established before you start living together.

I'm curious about what you all think about the idea that living with a man before marriage is giving him the benefits of a wife without the commitment... It seems to me that you shouldn't be "withholding" things like domestic duties until you're married, and that a man is less likely to want to commit/marry you before he sees the full package, not just "oh I promise I'll do this after we get married". But then I can understand some people saying "why would a man want to marry you if he's already…

I feel like when you're in a mindset like that, all the things that you aren't doing and need to do tend to pile up and become overwhelming, and when I feel that way, my first response is to shut down rather than tackling the problem. I've also been in a funk because I recently withdrew from school due to my dad's death. In addition to the difficulty of coping with that, not having any real responsibilities to keep me active makes it very easy to just want to stay in bed all day and get nothing …

Right, I totally get it. I feel much more comfortable with the situation now, because we talked about it a bit, and he's made more of a conscious effort to involve me in the conversation, and I've made more of an effort to actively listen and not just think about myself and what I'm going to say next. I don't think he realized what he was doing at all, nor did I realize that it was kind of selfish of me to get annoyed instead of genuinely listening. And I mean, we have so much time to get to kno…

I think this is a good way of handling things. I was struggling a bit with it because I was like, "Okay, I know I'm supposed to have a pleasant and calm demeanor, am I nagging him if I bring this up? Should I just let it go? But what if I can't? I don't want to bottle it up and resent him." But I think generally it's better to say something - in a calm, rational way, of course.
/r/RedPillWomen06/06/15 02:21 PM
1

Well I think he is naturally a more chatty person, he's more forthcoming about himself, while I usually wait for other people to ask about me. (That's probably something I could change, without trying to dominate the conversation or be aggressive about it.) I don't think that he even realized it until I brought it up. And I don't mind that part of his personality, I'm not expecting him to do a 180 and be a totally "sensitive" person who says "how was your day, honey? Oh that girl at work was bei…

Thanks, that's very helpful. With my boyfriend of a few weeks, there has been a minor issue that he will talk a lot about himself and ask very little about me. Not that I mind learning more about him, but it sort of bothers me how much of our conversations are focused around him and his life to the detriment of him knowing very little about me, or I'll start to talk about my day and he'll inadvertently change the subject. I kept asking myself, "is this even worth getting upset over?" because it'…

It bothers some men, others don't care. I think the ones who don't care about your number are usually those with high partner counts themselves, which may not exactly be the type of man that women here are going for. (i.e. They're just looking to pump and dump)

Well, I remember as a kid whenever I fought with my friends or my parents or brother I'd think, "Wow that really hurt my feelings, I'm going to give that person the silent treatment all day tomorrow!" or "I'm going to get back at them tomorrow!" But by the time I woke up, I'd forgotten all about being angry, or the problem seemed really silly. I feel like giving it space can often put it into perspective. Right, I agree. When I think of "fight", I think of a screaming match, which seems unnecessary. But I'm sure at some point at least one of us will let our emotions get the best of us and act in a way we later regret. I do agree, though, that people should just talk things out in a calm way. I've dated guys before that would see "hey, this hurts my feelings, can we talk about it?" as an attack and would respond defensively and escalate into a fight, but my boyfriend doesn't seem like that at all.

I've always been told that I needed to be more assertive, but I didn't know what that even entailed. I will certainly look into it more, it sounds like a good skill to have for relationships and life in general. Thanks!

Well, I am struggling a little bit with it personally, but I wanted it to be more of a general discussion like "When my SO does something to upset me, this is how I handle it" rather than "in your specific situation, you should do xyz". My boyfriend and I had a minor disagreement but it was resolved pretty well, so there's not really a specific issue to be addressed.... it's more about how to handle our first "real" fight in the future since I feel it's pretty inevitable that we're going to clas…

I don't think I've ever had a man come out and ask me that, but I have discussed it with guys before. I am honest, but I don't go into unnecessary details. I've been with a few guys, probably more than ideal, but my number isn't huge and I've never had any one night stands or threesomes or anything like that that someone may want to know about.

So I watched it and I LOVE Tara! I live near her and I believe she hosts speaking engagements around here. I'm not even religious but I'd love to see that. I can see how the idea of a submissive wife can sound sketchy, but I don't understand how anyone can watch that and take offense with it. How dare you create a pleasant atmosphere and make an effort to be a good wife rather than bitching and nagging him! Sexism!!! The other wife.... yeah.... I would gladly do it, but if other women don't want to do it, it's not really a big issue to me, although it seems kind of silly. Something I found kind of interesting is that my cousin married a Swedish guy and they both changed their names to include both last names. Like "John and Jane Smith Johnson". I thought that was weird, but whatever.

Yeah, you're probably right. I'm not planning on dating anyone until I'm 110% sure I'm over the ex anyway. Also, I love that blog! I've read every page of it haha. I am learning the importance of no contact more and more. Before, I thought, "oh, if I go out of my way to show him that I'm completely there for him and care about/support him, he'll appreciate me!" which works in a relationship, but I guess in this situation just comes off as annoying. Well, we talked about it a bit, and we both said that we wanted something steady and serious at that point, but I guess it was hard for him to determine how compatible we were if we only saw each other in person sporadically. I will do that, I'm taking all of this advice to heart. The hope was more of a "well, if it's meant to happen, it will find a way" kinda thing. Yeah, school and the fact that I didn't want to uproot my life for someone that I wasn't sure things were going to be serious with. I mentioned applying to transfer to a university in his city, but we hadn't been together long and he was kind of hesitant about that.

Well, the reason we ended things was because we live two hours apart, and he didn't want a long distance relationship. Of course I'm not saying that I don't have my faults (I need to work on self-confidence, for example), but we didn't fight or anything, things were good - it was more of a timing issue. I'm considering moving to his area in the future (not just because of him, but because I really like it), and he's an incredible person, so ideally we could give it another shot if we're both sin…

Hahaha, I know, it was a pretty stupid idea. I also texted him happy Easter after I'd had a few drinks (fortunately I didn't say anything beyond that), and that makes me cringe. At least he was really cheerful and it ended well, and I got the validation I needed that he didn't hate me after acting like a stage 5 clinger. Thank you, that's really helpful. It's been hard, because my ex is a great person and I'd like to stay friendly with him. After initially getting a little crazy, and then a brief no-contact period, it's been going well, but it's hard because I'm not over him and he has a new girlfriend, and I have to try hard not to come off too strong. Thank you, that's really helpful. It's hard to resist the urge to stay in bed all day and not talk to anyone (which is what I did for the first week). I feel like it just makes it worse to say "what did I do wrong? What could I have changed?", but I think there comes a point where you should look at what you can do better in your next relationship, even if it's just the type of partner you pick. Oh yeah, I was sort of joking. I wouldn't do a "bait and switch" thing, and I'd never let myself go or just stop putting in effort. But at some point in a relationship you are going to see each other looking casual, right? I figured that there's going to be the occasional lazy movie night at home or something, where you don't necessarily have to put on a full face of makeup or dress up in your sexiest clothes. But yeah, I still know how to do the whole casual, low maintenance look without lookin…

Yeah, I don't think I'll ever be the type to spend an hour doing my makeup and messing with getting my eyeliner perfect and doing all that contouring wizardry. It's never been a problem with guys before, but at the same time, I feel like it's nice to put forth a bit of effort and look my best to potential SOs. I mean, I am low-fuss and if I could, I'd wear yoga pants and a messy ponytail to a date, but it might be better to save that for a bit later on :P

Yeah, I've always been told, "You're a natural beauty, you look better without makeup" etc. but if I'm single, I figure it can only help to learn how to enhance my features. I'll definitely try this. I've always been a little wary of those department store makeovers because I figured they'd be like, "Oh, you need to buy this $36 mascara and this $45 lipstick and this $112 moisturizer!" haha. But I will definitely try it out sometime.

I don't want to seem like I'm trying to withhold sex as a technique to manipulate him into committing, I just want to make my desires clear upfront and protect myself from hurtful situations. I have had sex without exclusivity/commitment before, thinking I could handle it, but it generally always ended badly because it became clear that we had two different sets of expectations. Of course I don't expect every guy I ever date to commit to me, there is a period where you get to know each other and…

I understand that, and I'm glad it worked out for you. If it was someone I genuinely felt I had a future with, I wouldn't rely on arbitrary rules or anything. But I feel like if you're really uncertain about it, it's probably not going to work out.

Oh, I definitely understand that you have to show someone that you're relationship material, I don't mind that at all. I just think that there's a point where you're being a doormat if you continue to give 100% to a relationship that isn't reciprocated. I think, while it's completely acceptable to show why you're girlfriend material, you also need to be aware of guys who just want to reap the benefits (sexual and otherwise) while letting you think there might be more, someday, without actually i…

I'm sure it works for some people. My first LTR started with sex on the first date, and it lasted two years (though he said "I love you" pretty early on and made it clear what he was looking for). I just feel like it can be pretty risky.

Well, maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like if someone is genuinely interested in you, you'll know it. I understand that there are times when two people are mutually interested in each other, but for some reason hesitant to escalate it to the next level, and then you need a talk. But it's been my experience that I've never felt the need to "define the relationship" when I felt secure about how he felt about me (plus he did the labeling fairly quickly) - just when it was unclear whether I was a potent…

"Demand" was the wrong word to use. I don't want to sound like I'm forcing him to commit - just that I want to have boundaries and not pretend to be okay with the whole wishy-washy FWB situation. Yeah I feel like saying "just so you know, I only want a LTR and eventually marriage" on a first date might scare men away, but I'm sure there's a more tactful way to make it clear. I certainly don't mind proving myself a worthy girlfriend candidate, but I wouldn't want to give 100% of my effort to some…

You're probably right, it was more my hypothetical fears. Yeah I'm amazed at how talented some of these ladies are. I mean, that's not to say that it's not still sexy, but it's not about shaking your asscheeks while clutching a pole. IMHO, even if you were doing this as a form of fitness/hobby and not just to look sexy for your man, it would be fine, as long as you weren't then taking these skills to the amateur night at the local strip club.
/r/RedPillWomen09/11/14 03:41 PM

That's pretty much what I was thinking. Yes, you shouldn't go out of your way to do all of these special things for a man who has done nothing to "earn" them by treating you as just another plate... but that should be obvious, it has nothing to do with whether he's marrying you or not imo.
/r/RedPillWomen29/10/14 02:07 PM
2

That's actually a really good point to bring up. Upon reading up on TRP and such, I was really confused as to how you guys could mesh, with such different relationship goals. I personally am not looking for a Red Pill man specifically, and I do think I was misunderstanding that part a bit! My original question still stands though, regardless of how the man may view marriage :)

Haha, yeah I had the same thought about the list. I guess it was sort of obvious that this wouldn't go over too well. Here's another serious thought/question though... From what I've seen, the majority of RPW want to get married and settle down, while TRP men are generally at least very cautious about this, if not outright resistant. So if you do all these things for a man as a girlfriend, what makes him want to finally "seal the deal"?
/r/RedPillWomen29/10/14 01:31 AM
1

Right. I guess you do have to work around the other person's schedule and you can't just up and take off and do your own thing on a whim, and you sort of have someone to answer to and consider when making decisions. I'm sure many young twenty-somethings aren't mature enough to handle that or don't want to be tied down or whatever, but IMO the benefits of marriage far outweigh the downsides.

I agree with this so much. I'm 19 and I don't want to get married for a few more years (waiting until I at least graduate college, maybe grad school, so 21-24ish), but I also know there's no way in hell I want to participate in the whole "dating" scene at college. Aka where you "hang out" with a bunch of guys, sleep with them, wait for them to call you back and ending up ultimately unsatisfied. As cliche as it sounds, that's why I've always dated older guys. I really don't see what being married…

Yeah, and most of the selfies that I've seen are legit unattractive girls with captions saying shit like "Yeah cause I'm soooo ugly! Eat your heart out boys!" Way to prove your opponent right. Yeah, I legitimately thought they snuck a few pictures of mens' legs in there, I have no idea how you can grow it out that much. And I'm known to skip shaving for a few days when I'm feeling lazy (only when I'm single and not showing my legs in public) but there's a certain threshold where it just becomes uncomfortable. Especially pubic hair, yikes. I honestly don't really care if some women don't shave and they feel okay about themselves, but don't try to pretend that you're "smashing the patri…

I like the idea of this - I think all women should know how to cook, clean, take care of babies, and do basic things like that. Way too many women that I know are basically incapable of taking care of themselves and their houses when they move out. BUT, I also think it's good to learn certain "masculine" skills as well instead of just the dainty feminine ones. For example, I grew up in the Mormon church. I don't really agree with a lot of it, but one thing I am grateful for is that from the time…

I have a couple concerts/plays I'm looking forward to with the boyfriend. Aaaaand a bunch of cleaning/organizing, though I've already been in the ongoing process of deep-cleaning and organizing my house for awhile. I can't wait for spring to actually come, we've had some sporadic warm days here but right now it's still i…

Agreed wholeheartedly. Certain expectations are kind of necessary. I think if you're going to be fulfilling your half of a relationship, your SO needs to fill their half as well, and there are basic, important things you should expect from them. Honesty, communication, affection, etc. But yeah, it is easy to take things for granted rather than appreciating them. You should never come to expect things like gifts or a specific amount of texts/phone calls, for example. I think it's more a matter of…

Well my boyfriend and I don't live together (yet) so it's a bit harder because I can't really say "oh, I can do xyz for our house" but here goes. Sex (because, duh) Cleaning and organizational skills (he has none, and I am always looking for things to clean and make neater) We both like writing, though he does it for a career - so someone to review/edit his work, and bounce ideas off of. He also has a website that I write for sometimes, which really helps him out. Affection, physical and emotion…

Yeah that one kind of made me raise an eyebrow, but I think it was supposed to be more like "oh, she can start feeling better and get back to her normal routine" than "thank god she's feeling better, now she can finally get back to making your food!"

Some of these were kinda ridiculous and hard to take seriously, but it just made me laugh more than anything. Especially the one about spanking your wife if she doesn't get the right kind of coffee. Did men in the fifties actually practice non-sexual spanking with their wives as much as these ads suggest?

I don't even think this is that radical or see how people could have an issue with it, except maybe the part about how wives should know their place. Being nice and pleasant when your SO comes home, and making them feel comfortable however possible - that should be common sense for everyone, shouldn't it?

Pretty much the same thing as anyone else. I would not be okay with cheating or lying. And by cheating, I mean either physical or emotional, or suggestive flirting with other women. Before we were exclusive, I found out that he would message his exes and other attractive female friends on Facebook and tell them how sexy they were. It bothered me enough to know that's not something I'm comfortable with. I know he's always going to find other women attractive and have female friends, and there is …

That's actually pretty reasonable. Most of the people I know over the age of 20 who don't have their license just do it because they're scared or too lazy to take the test. Personally, I would get my license just because it's useful, like if there's an emergency or you're ever in a situation where you need to drive yourself or someone else somewhere, but it's up to you.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
