Thank you. You’re so right about the lacking sense of self. She even often says she doesn’t feel herself. About me coming up with more problems and creating a downward spiral, that was certainly not my intent. I have enough of that at home. You asked me questions and I answered them as precisely as I could. The reality of such a situation isn’t pretty, but after 26 years with a borderline, you know that. It’s uplifting and inspiring for me to see you doing so great. I wish you all the best.

Thanks for your reply! Firstly, we live in Eastern Europa, and it's been hard for me to find a qualified mental health professional in this country. I've tried. Most don't really know what a personality disorder is. They use them as search terms for their clinical practices but then it turns out they don't know anything about them. Secondly, my gf flies off the handle very easily. I waited months for the right moment to break to her what I had been reading about BPD. It was a perfect moment duri…

26 years with a borderline. How did you do it? I'm at almost three years with a borderline and my life is waaay down compared to when we started. We have a little baby together, who is wonderful. It's the constant chaos coming from my girlfriend that gets me down. How do you do it? You stayed till your children were 13. I hope I can get out earlier, in a way that is good for everyone.

Man, your story sounds a lot like mine, although yours may be even worse. Let me share with you some of what I have discovered over the years: Yes there is a psychological term for it: codependency. It’s a pattern that arises when you had to defer your needs to those of your parent. I can relate because I am in a relationship with a violent woman who has even several times threatened to stab me. Although I know it’s not normal or healthy, part of me recognises it and resonates with it, because t…

I know what you mean by being chicken about breaking up. I’m in the same situation and haven’t broken up. I checked the clinical criteria for borderline personality disorder, and my gf has all nine, and I’m still with her. Well I only checked after I made her pregnant, which raises the stakes. Check the DSM for criteria for BPD. Maybe yours has the same. If so, think hard about what you want and don’t want.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
