I was thinking this too - in addition to it being wrong to stay quiet, that she might get into legal trouble if it comes out that she knew and stayed silent.

Did Joffrey get executed for treason? That's what happened to Seymour (later on for something that he did to Elizabeth's brother).

Elizabeth's stepmother Catherine Parr married Thomas Seymour after Elizabeth's father Henry VIII died. Thomas Seymour had wanted to marry Elizabeth I herself, but when that was refused, he married Parr. Elizabeth lived in their household for awhile, and Seymour started abusing her, but Parr was blinded by her adoration of Seymour and saw some of the behavior as "innocent fun." I think what the commenter is referring to is an episode where Parr held Elizabeth immobile while Seymour used a sword t…

Your comment is a fabulous trip. At the beginning, I had no idea it would end with women stepping on cakes. Had to laugh when I pictured it.

Hahaha I had one of those exes too, which is probably why when Trump did it, it stuck in my memory for so long.

Well, I have told people vaguely what side of town I live on, but you say in #3 that you invited this dude to the place you were staying. He was just a friend of a friend, someone you had never met, and you were inviting him to your current home. I find that dangerous, and I think FDS rules would say the same. I hope you reconsider doing stuff like that.

Agreed - she seems to be really down on herself and needs to work on that first. Based on her comments, she might be taken advantage of even in friend circles, since she seems to second guess herself into oblivion.

Yes! And before the inauguration, President Biden helped Dr. Jill into the car, and it was the sweetest thing. It reminded me of when the Trumps visited the Obamas in the White House in 2016, and Trump just left Melania in the car - didn't wait until she got out to walk up with him, or anything.

So sweet! I also like seeing reviews from men for things they bought for women in their lives, like "I bought this lotion for my wife because the skin on her hands gets really dry in the winter, and she says it's helping!" or "I bought this windbreaker for my sister for hiking, and she says it's holding up well."

Dave Chappelle also shows some compassion for her in one of his comedy specials. He mentions how hard it must be to be known for giving a bj, and points out how young she was when it happened. He says that most women probably have a bj that they regret, particularly at that age. He's vulgar about it, and doesn't express all the nuances of the power dynamic, but I appreciate that he has used his platform to show people a different and more sympathetic perspective about Lewinsky.

I think maybe English isn't his first language, so maybe the connotations of those words aren't entirely clear to him. I could see how someone speaking english as a foreign language might think that "sentiment"="feelings"

Yeah, saying "daughter" is really specific. If he had said "kid" that would have been a little less weird, because the idea of parents trying to get kids to stay in their room so that they have privacy is an established trope.

So glad to hear that you were able to get out of that marriage with someone who wouldn't treat you how you deserve to be treated! Too bad, so sad for your ex now that he regrets losing his old life. Emotional labor is asking your partner how their day was, remembering important events in their lives, letting them vent about problems, showing them support when they are feeling down, making sure that they have what they need, thinking of ways to brighten their day, complimenting them to boost their self esteem, etc. In its more unhealthy forms, it can include - always being the one to solve a problem or end a fight, usually by compromising or soothing the other party. When people have been to…

You are so right. In the countries where women have decent working opportunities, society can't rely on financial reasons alone to push us into relationships, so they put out the idea that single women are "sad" or "pathetic." The great thing is that each and every one of us (the single ones, at least), living our best lives, are a counter-example to that narrative! We can be a model to young women that there is another way!

And these absentee fathers are always astonished that their kids don't care about being involved with them. These men use it as fodder when they play the "oh poor me, I'm a victim" game with women they are harassing for dates. Sorry that your dad is one of these men!
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy27/06/20 12:22 AM
3

Oof, sorry that happened to you! Being groped like that is never a good experience, but there's an added emotion (for me at least) when it happens in a crowded place where other people must have seen it happen. I really can't understand what makes a person think it's funny for them to touch someone else without permission.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy25/06/20 07:54 PM

I really hate using these men's homophobia to help them see that women should be allowed to reject sexual advances, but sadly, that's sometimes the only way to get through to them. Though of course so many would say to you, "No no, that's different! I'm a man and have bodily autonomy! Women are the sex class!"

You spell it out perfectly. It's actually worrying that the original post has so many upvotes. It's starting to look like FDS is being flooded with people who aren't doing the work of shedding the harmful mindset of society at large. I commented on a different FDS post where a commenter had called a woman she knew as a "dumb promiscuous woman who slept with everyone" and it was so sad because I thought this was one of the few places I could go to not see stuff like that.

Those tweets or whatever are really offensive to women. We don't have to tear other women down to build ourselves up. That's not maturity at all.

Both of the women you are talking about knowingly slept with men in monogamous relationships? You know that the men told these women that they were in monogamous relationships? edited to add: I'm just trying to point out that you didn't describe the first woman as a knowing cheater. You just called her a "dumb promiscuous woman."
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy15/06/20 02:21 AM

The first woman, you are using her sexual history to devalue her (e.g. she's promiscuous and has sex with everyone). Don't do what men do to us.

One night I caught him texting some dumb promiscuous woman that everyone in the bar scene had already had sex with. I caught him cheating with an equally base and vile creature about a year later. Talking about other women in this way is not encouraged in this subreddit.

Oh, I totally forgot about driving in bad weather. Definitely add that one to my list of worries, too! Moving to a big city is a good bet - that's basically what I've done, so that I can use both public transport and driving to get me where I need to go. I also find that I don't fear driving in smaller towns where the traffic isn't as bad, which is lucky, because that's usually where there is no public transport to pick up the slack. I hope you find a good place to settle where driving isn't suc…

Your nervousness in asking your friend is understandable - I am still nervous to drive other people anywhere, but I think it's a good idea for you to try. As others said, you can try it out in a parking lot first, really slow, and with your nice friend there, surely it will help you feel better. I also have that trouble with understanding the spatial size of my car. In that case, the internet can help you - there are tricks for how to line up the car. Also, the reflectors on the road help you kn…

Kudos on continuing to work on your driving fear! It's a tough one to deal with, and at least for me, feels like something I'll have to deal with for the rest of my life. I should probably take my own advice and do a defensive driving course, though maybe therapy, like you suggest, will be the better option. Some of my driving fear stems from: 1) not trusting other drivers to be careful, and 2) not doing well in situations when I have to "perform" quickly while others watch (e.g. parallel parkin…

I'm a middle aged woman who started driving regularly fairly late due to family instability. There was no one to teach me. I did the driver's education class in high school, but at my school it was just a weekend program on only 3 weekends. I had no adults to supervise me while I was learning, which means I wasn't able to practice outside of class, so the first time I actually drove on the road was when I took my driving test when I was 18. I passed the test, then went off to college without acc…

I agree so much with your last paragraph. I like relationships where both parties take a lot of care of the other party, but I find most men don't want to live up to their side of the bargain, though of course, they like everything that I offer them. When I like people, I want do to nice things to brighten their life, and it's baffling to me that a lot of men don't think this way. They see it in an entirely transactional sense, so if they can get me to provide a lot of care without providing any…

I got those religious messages about gender roles, too, but then also a dose of "you should have a career," so I approached dating with a really disordered view of things. I don't blame my mom, because she did her best. She told me that I should work hard in school, go to college, and have a good career. She was a stay-at-home-mom who married young, and she said that I was better than just cleaning up after a man. However, we were also a religious family. We didn't go to church that much, but we…

It must have been heartbreaking. But remaining civil, so that you can remain in the same friend group, is one thing. Being a friend to him, taking his calls, and providing emotional support, is something else. He wouldn't do for you what you did for him when he came crying to you at 1am. It's not being romantic that ruined your friendship. If dude would dump your romantic relationship for a random woman, he would have dumped your friendship for her, too, if you two had just been friends and she'…

Sorry to hear that. But consider if you want kids or pets, etc in the future. How would you feel if he left the hard chores to you, while you are both fully employed, etc etc? He doesn't keep his house clean now with fewer responsibilities, so you can almost assume this will be an issue. Some women don't mind picking up the slack on housework. It may not have been necessary to say that you were going "anyway" because you were bored. I'm not sure how you worded it, but if you wanted to go on a walk with him just to get to know him a little, you could have said, "I'm going on a walk for some fresh air. Want to join?" Sometimes one behavior is a dead giveaway for the sickness inside someone, and that's why we call it a red flag. It may seem like just one "slip," but it is connected to an underground reservoir of toxic ideas about women and relationships, that will erupt into numerous, more obviously serious "slips" if given time. The only correct response is to run.

That last part - "One just recently married their FWB. That amazes me and I wish I could have that too someday" - is something he threw out there so that the poor woman who takes him up on the offer will hold out hope that he will want to marry her one day. And when he dumps her after stringing her along for years and years, he'll claim that he doesn't understand why she's mad because he always said he didn't want anything serious.

It doesn't have to physically feel good - it's a drive. Something in the cats' brain/hormones makes them feel like they have to mate. They aren't consciously deciding to mate and thus have babies. They mate because they feel better during or afterward because it's a drive which at certain parts of the year, tells them that they need to do X act.

Every little thing that devalues women's contributions helps create the world we live in, which devalues women's contributions.
