Build yourself up. I know what you’re feeling. I was divorced last year and it felt like it was over. 35 and single again. I hit the gym, started a diet and found new hobbies. Tonight I am going out with a wonderful woman that I recently met. It’s our 3rd date in a week. I NEVER thought I’d be here again. Put the effort in. You’ll attract the right people. Build your confidence

I cut her out of the ones in my phone or blurred her out of the ones that I couldn’t. Most pictures were of our family so I didn’t want to outright delete them.

It’s a hard pill to swallow. Divorce was never an option for me. It was never considered but it happened anyway and it came and went. It’s easy to see the rot once you step back. Too many boundaries have been crossed. There are some things that you can’t comeback from.

My ex wife was convinced that she was getting signs from God to divorce because of the random quotes she would scroll past on instagram and facebook

It’ll be a few years before that conversation enters the picture. Best to be friendly and see how things develop. No one knows your ex better than you do, what do you think?

The hardest part about going to the gym is getting to the gym. Once you’re there you’ll realize that it’s no big deal. If you have enough energy to watch tv then you have enough energy to walk on the treadmill. Baby steps my friend, don’t get discouraged quickly either, it’s a marathon. You’re not racing anyone

We sold our home and have shared custody of our kid. At first the sky was falling then it got better. I started therapy, gym time and dieting and found myself in a better place both physically and mentally. Therapy helped me see that it’s not solely my fault and to stop putting myself down. Dieting and exercise gave me the body I always wanted and finally hit my target weight this week. My confidence is through the roof and I’m thriving. What was first seen as loneliness and devastation started …

People in general think that all they need is for someone to come in and make everything better, make them happy when they could never do it by themselves. This is the fallacy. You need to know how to be happy by yourself. Your spouse is supposed to enhance that happiness, not be the cause. I believe most women are waiting for that special guy to come in and just sweep them off their feet, that they’ll provide everything that was missing before. The reality sets in and resentment builds. No one …

You’re not the ONLY one that fucked up in the marriage. Reflect. You are not 100% to blame

The judge will set the terms during the final hearing, that’s how it worked out for me in Florida

Seems to me that she tried and failed with someone else and now wants to come back to the safety net. Of course this is from an outsider perspective, no one knows your ex like you do. Tread carefully and very slowly. She has to win YOU back

Sad thing for me is I don’t really know when I started being unhappy. It all blurred together. My biggest takeaway from my divorce is that we were both broken people who got together out of loneliness and overstayed our welcome

This group has been a Godsend. It’s incredible how willing we all are to share our stories and provide insight and a sympathetic ear. You bros gave me hope for humanity.

You have to right? It’s weird to think about but you have to hope she finds someone good for your kid’s sakes.

These are the thoughts that have started running through my mind lately. She didn’t want to be friends with me during our marriage so why bother now? And I know how she talks about her friends too so nothing lost there.

That’s incredible. It’s comforting to know that others have experienced so many of the same things as me. Thank you for sharing

This sounds familiar. My ex was always more worried about what was going on outside our home than in it. The only time the home was cleaned up was when we had company coming over. She would completely ignore what I was saying so she could finish her texts first. She couldn’t even buy me a Christmas present because she “didn’t know what electronic shit you like” but could spend an entire week getting a gift basket ready for her coworkers birthday. I wish I got just a fraction of that effort

It took my family and friends to tell me that I’m better now without her. My temper is under control, my anxiety is at its lowest point in years and I’m actually smiling more. These are things that others have had to point out to me. I wish you the best of luck too.

I like reading these experiences. I wasn’t cheated on(I think) but we just fell apart over the years. I can’t bring myself to be around her anymore. Her presence makes me uncomfortable, I can’t find it in my heart to be a “friend” not even for my kid and I think that’s what bothers me. Cheers to you and your freedom. I hope to be there one day myself. I’m focusing on me and my son when he’s with me

I thought I was getting the deal of a lifetime with my noncontested divorce. You’re making out like a bandit. I only get 50% custody of my son, I wish I had 100%. Having your kids will help tremendously.

You’re allowed to grieve every now and then, like you said she was your best friend of 7 years. It’s going to take some time to really get over it. I’ve known men to completely break down on their first date after divorce because the realness that it’s truly done comes washing back

Straight forward advice. I’ve had couch sessions with a few friends and I’ve had the same reaction in all, I end up apologizing for not trusting in them earlier and keeping so much from them.

It might have something to do in our nature to provide for a family and now the family is gone 🤷‍♂️. Maybe it had to do with how we’re problem fixers and this just didn’t work out.

She walked away with half from the house, all my assets are intact. I should also mention that she’s filing a non-contested divorce. She literally wants it 50/50 as much as possible

How do you start to move on from someone that was almost a 1/3 of your life?
/r/Divorce_Men13/02/23 12:29 AM
You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
