I have more than just PCOS. Intersex people with an or multiple ovaries can have PCOS. Did you think PCOS was female exclusive? Also, asking someone, "What are your genitals, gonads, chromosomes and hormones" is extremely disturbing. You're not my doctor, nor are you fucking me. The first D in DSD originally meant disorder. And no, the majority of intersex people do not feel neutral or positive about the term. The majority feel negatively about the term. Have you ever actually asked if we like t…

He did not make up gender. He did not make it a social construct. It always was and always has been a social construct. Last I checked, he wasn't alive in Ancient Greece, where trans men and trans women were validated and treated as the gender they said they were. If sex and gender were the same, trans people wouldn't exist. "Every surrounding language of ours," you say that as if I live in Europe? The oldest living language (Tamil) has feminine, masculine and neutral pronouns to differentiate b…

Not all intersex people are "between" sexes, and no, intersex doesn't mean "between sexes." The prefix "inter" is indeed misleading, as people with turner syndrome for example aren't between female or male. Depending on their development, they might not even be at the female mark (such as under developed or no development of reproductive organs).
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 02:42 PM

You claimed the term "gender" came from the term "generation," which is incorrect. Neither of them came from each other. Gender came from genus and generation came from generare. Ok, what gender are rocks?
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 02:38 PM

The definition of gender is literally, "A social construct based on stereotyped roles and behaviours." Those roles and behaviours are stereotyped. Meaning they are stereotypes. I'm not here to say, "You can't be a woman because of what you do and he can't be a man because of what he does," I'm asking how can you be a gender if you don't fit what it means to be that gender (which are the stereotypes)
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 02:32 PM

I don't dress like a boy or a girl, I dress like an adult (because boy and girl are age-specific genders that mean a child)
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 02:28 PM

Intersex: a person who does not fit the female or male sex categories. To be female, you need to have only XX chromosomes. To be male, you need to have only XY chromosomes. If you have more chromosomes, like with Jacob's and XXX, you cannot be female or male.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 02:27 PM

Bimodal means having or involving two modes (or centres, if that makes it easier to understand). So for sex, the two modes would be female and male - as they're the most common. Female would be on one side with male on the opposite. Intersex variants would be somewhere between them, depending on which they resemble the most. I'd recommend you look up "gender inclusive biology" and checkout the chart they have there.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 02:26 PM

You're not really answering. This isn't a conversation, "I feel W, X and Y so I'm Z," this is- Gender IS stereotypes, so if someone isn't those stereotypes, how can they be that gender?
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 02:20 PM

I do understand what gender is, for the most part. I don't know what exact stereotypes of behaviours fit into what gender, but I know gender is stereotypes. Gender came from the Latin "genus," meaning birth/family/nation. Not generation. Female and male aren't "positive and negative," nor are they genders. They're sexes. Gender isn't even real. It's a bunch of stereotypes. Even then, do you think atoms have genders? Protons, neutrons and electrons? Quarks? What gender is energy? Do different for…
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 02:15 PM

What about male genitalia with female gonads? Or female genitalia with male gonads? Or male genitalia with female chromosomes? Or female genitalia with male chromosomes? There are more variables that just genitalia (gonads, chromosomes and hormones). Intersex variations leaning closer to female or male doesn't mean that variation IS female or male. Sex is bimodal, not binary, and there are variations that are exactly both or exactly neither. So if a dyadic, cisgendered, but feminine looking male…
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 02:11 PM

DSD is an outdated and sexist term. Intersex variants aren't disorders, they're natural variations of human sex. And no, intersex people do not fit into female or male categories. The definition of intersex is literally someone who does not fit the female or male categories. The reason why the medical field designated different intersex variants into "female" or "male" is because the medical field is sexist. Always has been. In the 1800's and early 1900's, doctors would literally finger females …
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 02:05 PM

What do you mean by, "what you base your gender on?" Gender is stereotypes. Do you mean what you base the stereotypes on? Gender expression isn't the same as gender. Expression is looks, gender is roles and behaviours. Taking the pill isn't really "girly," it's female.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 02:00 PM

The definition is "stereotyped roles and behaviours," which differ by culture. So stating that gender isn't defined by behaviours is inherently incorrect.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 01:40 PM

And it's valid that you explored to figure out who you are. I'm not here to say what people can or can't be, I'm just trying to figure out how someone can be something when they don't fit the definition of what that something is.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 01:38 PM

All terms are made up. Intersex is NOT "those that don't want to conform to traditional gender roles." Intersex IS someone who biologically does not fit into the female or male categories. My biology says I'm not female or male. What about people born with both a penis and a uterus? Or neither? Or parts of both? What about a uterus with testes? Or a penis with ovaries? There are too many variables for your "penis male, uterus female" definition.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 01:33 PM

Your first comment was literally about John Money. No need to be tied up with stuff that discredited pedo John Money created. You specifically brought up a man who is only known for mutilating cisgendered children. Gender and sex are not the same. I don't know how many times I have to repeat that, but it seems like you're purposely refusing to do your own research. It takes 5 seconds to google "sex vs gender." Gender wasn't invented in the 1950's. John Money coined the term "gender roles," but h…

First, my gender (or lack there of) has nothing to do with my sex. Second, external genitalia aren't the only factors in sex. Third, many people have ambiguous genitalia, differing internal/external reproduction, chromosomes that differ from their anatomical sex, and/or hormones that differ from their anatomical sex. Forth, don't come into this thread to use homophobic slurs.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 01:12 PM

I'm not confusing sex and gender at all. Sex is the biological attributes denoting to reproduction, which has very little to do with this conversation. Gender IS stereotypes. If someone doesn't conform to the stereotypes of that gender, how could they say they are that gender? Being good and christian is automatically contradictory, but lets not get off topic with that...
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 01:08 PM

Counter: there's also no reason for me to identify as a woman either.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 01:06 PM

Androgyny is the mix of femininity and masculinity (andro meaning male and gyn meaning female). What exactly would you say makes you a woman?
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 01:05 PM

Gender assigned at birth is highly inaccurate, as gender isn't something that can be assigned at birth. No one can tell another person, "You're an XYZ because I say so." At birth, people are assigned a sex (not gender), and even then, it is only based on external genitalia. But again, as previously stated, since gender is the stereotypes, how can someone be said gender if they don't conform to said stereotypes?
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 01:02 PM

"DSD" is an outdated and sexist term. Being intersex isn't a disorder, it's a natural variation in human sex. And no, being one form of intersex doesn't make someone female or male. Intersex by definition is literally someone who does not fit the biological category of female or male. And lets say we did believe in your "egg or sperm" definition of sex- what about people, like me, who produce neither? Or people who produce both?
/r/PurplePillDebate29/08/25 12:56 PM

If this is about attraction, why do you exclude men who are attracted to older women? No, most guys aren't creeps. You're just projecting. Being a minority doesn't mean excluding them. You also didn't comment about sex repulsed and celibate people. Do you think asexual, sex repulsed and celibate are synonymous?

Jobs excluded from women can and have still been seen as women's jobs or feminine jobs- such as cooking. Cooking was historically seen as a woman's job, yet women weren't allowed to be chefs. It's quite hypocritical. Art isn't "gender non-conforming" because it doesn't have a gender to begin with. It's art. It's inanimate. That's like saying, "THIS ROCK IS CLEARLY A WOMAN" (cough cough Spanish). A better society would be one where gender isn't a thing, as gender has, historically, only caused su…

No gender definition specifically states which stereotypes, and even if they did, those stereotypes still vary according to different cultures. Which stereotypes do you personally think belong to what gender?
/r/PurplePillDebate28/08/25 11:08 AM

Being with someone isn't always about reproduction. Sex isn't always about reproduction. Even if it was, just because someone isn't "in their prime" doesn't mean they can't have kids. The oldest woman to get pregnant (without IVF) and give birth was 59 (Dawn Brooke). Even then: What about asexual, sex repulsed, and celibate people? Why do you think they don't deserve love? What about men who like older women? People who don't want kids? 60 year old men who wait for 18 year olds are borderline pr…

Hormones are sex, not gender. Man and woman are gender, not sex. Brain structure and processing are sex, not gender. A woman's hippocampus can vary depending on her sex assigned at birth. Same with a man's. Because woman and man are genders, not sexes. If you can't even educate yourself on the differences between sex and gender, and instead are going to repeat the same rhetoric like a broken radio, there's really no point in continuing this. I came here for a debate, not a brick wall.

Intersex is an umbrella term for people who do not fit the male or female categories. Ambiguous/atypical genitalia is a FORM of intersex (often known as ovatesticular syndrome). There are multiple other forms of intersex: Turner (OX), Klinefelter (XXY/XXYY), Jacobs syndrome (XYY), Triple X (XXX), Adrenal Hyperplasia (Congenital and Non-Classic), I can go on. I literally have a list of the 71 different forms of intersex. No one needs to act, dress or conform to anything. That's personal preferenc…

Trans people aren't men trying to be women or women trying to be men. This isn't even about specifically trans people, this is about gender non-conforming people (who aren't the same). You brought up John Money, who's study was literally turning cisgender children trans via mutilation. Gender, by definition, is a social construct.

If we base masculinity off males (and call it man), femininity off females (and call it woman), and androgyny off intersexuality (and call it non-binary), then everyone would still fall into one of those categories - therefore being that gender as opposed to gender non-conforming.

By your definition of "man jobs," majority of jobs are "man jobs" because women were, historically, rarely allowed to work. Women could only enrol in childcare/teaching, nursing, servant work (such as maid services) and prostitution (depending on the time and place). Art as a whole is often used as rebellion. Paintings, music, photography, dance, etc. have all been used to rebel against something. Cherry picking drag doesn't do much to help you, you're just steering off topic

Feminism is about equal rights and opportunities for all genders. Define what a "man role" is. Not all drag queens are males or men. There are many female and women drag queens, as drag is a form of art. Anyone can be a drag queen, anyone can be a drag king. Drag isn't about gender identity, it's about performance art

I am neither a man nor a woman. John Money didn't invent being transgender. Trans people have always existed, and what he did wasn't for trans people. He mutilated cisgender children and forced them to be what they weren't.

Gender essentialism erases the existence of intersex and non-binary people, which isn't at all what I'm talking about. Gender is quite literally a social construct based on stereotyped roles and behaviours. If you take away those roles and behaviours, you aren't that gender. This isn't about sex at all, it's about gender. I call myself genderless because I acknowledge that gender isn't real and therefore I can't be a gender. I have a sex (I'm intersex), but no gender

You're confusing sex and gender. Sex is the biological attributes denoting to reproduction (genitals, gonads, chromosomes and hormones). Gender is a social construct based on stereotyped roles and behaviours (as stated previously). Sex (bimodal) : male, female, various intersex variations. Gender (social construct) : man, woman, boy, girl, various non-binary variations. Having a penis doesn't make someone a man. Having a vagina doesn't make someone a woman.

I'm intersex. I'm neither female nor male. Sex is bimodal, not binary - but I agree with the first half. Gender doesn't really exist, but the world isn't ready for that conversation yet
