For anime I would recommend Kemono Souja Erin. Female author, meant for children, but is the most mature anime I've seen and made me cry every episode. My parents were butchers for most of my childhood, I've learned to handle meat and what to look for in it. I trust my nose and feel of the meat. If it looks gnarly, I don't buy it. Also, in US they mark it down while it's still good but needs to be sold fast. Would not buy marked down back home, it was usually already bad.
