Nah, I only really "iron hand" the reported comments, and even then, I approve maybe 60% of them. I figure, if a comment wasn't reported, it can't have been that bad. Every once in a while someone gets trigger happy on the report button, but mostly it's light work.

Mod here. I haven't deleted a post in the past 5 days. In the past month, out of 2614 comments, I have deleted 8. That's 0.3% of all comments.

I made a post on abortion, just for you. :) http://www.reddit.com/r/FeMRADebates/comments/1rhpkh/abortion/ I moderate the place, and I'm not making this an np link, because I want people to go there and p. :P

As the moderator there, Ad Hominems and shaming are directly against the rules, but we've only had to delete a tiny minority of all of the comments (less than 0.5%). As for derailing, fallacies, polarization, etc, I think you're making things up. We have a respectful and orderly community. There was actually a post made about the mutual respect, by a moderate feminist, just a few days ago: http://www.reddit.com/r/FeMRADebates/comments/1r3ztd/are_we_different/

The idea is that if you question victims, or put them through polygraphs, many consider it victim blaming. On the other hand, you have to be able to expect something from the victim. On the side of the accused rapist, how do we make sure that they don't suffer undue punishment if they are innocent? How do we ensure that they are punished if they are guilty? /u/avantvernacular details his question in the text post.

Well like, America has free speech rules, but you're not allowed to threaten the president.

I'm hoping to find a middle ground. I am thinking it should be a place where outright banning is rare, but ad hominems are against the rules. I like the idea of graduated banning, where you get 2 warnings, and where the ban list (and reasons for banning) is public.

I have no intention of banning people because their opinions hurt other people's feelings. As long as you're not being a total asshole, I think you should be allowed to keep talking.

I agree that we shouldn't silence and oppress anyone. I'm a big fan of free speech. How would you express your opinions as a set of rules though?

Yeah well, it was supposed to be an example of a change that would help everyone. If she was a malicious false accuser and you had proof that she was lying, it wouldn't help her. No single example can be representative of all social issues.

If you feel like PMing me, I would be interested in your personal experience. If you feel like it. If not that's totally fine. I'm just some random chick on the Internet you've just met, so like, no pressure. I feel like I didn't express myself clearly above. Therapists can help people, a lot. I have seen people helped out by therapists all the time, the shelter always offered contact information for therapists to everyone who walked in the door. We also offered contact info for support groups r…

have you considered looking into psychology (as a hobby, not a career) to try to find ways of helping victims not unlike yourself cope with what happened to them? I thought about it for a while, and I've read a few books on theory of mind, but really, the best way to learn to help sexual assault victims, in my experience, is to volunteer in places where they help sexual assault victims. It's not that therapists are bad, they help plenty of people, but they just weren't for me. My favorite video …

Thanks for your response. I knew you didn't mean to be offensive. You seem like a stand-up guy. I talked to a couple professionals, but they weren't nearly as helpful as the true friends I made in the feminist community. People who had been through a similar experience, or who had seen many others go through similar experiences. Later, I gave back to the feminist community, I became friends with people who went through worse. Shattered people...it's really the only way to describe them. Rape can…

Oh I assume they all raped you? ...not cool...no feminist I've met would make this joke...it's completely insensitive to my past (and to the men in my past)...a lot of people get into feminism after sexual assault, and you never know when you might be talking to one of them...

Some women lie about rape. One of the feminists over in /r/AskFeminists believes they lie about 41% of the time. I personally think that's too high, but if people are convicted of false reporting 2-8% of the time, they must be doing it at least 16% of the time, because the cops don't catch you every time. The feminists actually argued about it over in /r/AskFeminists a while back. Some feminists believe the 2% statistic, some the 41% statistic.

...Google... Ok, hmm. So I'm not saying people should need to prove that they didn't commit a crime, but rather that if they could prove they didn't commit it, it would help everyone involved with the case. I used Google to try to emphasize that it is opt-in, and personally controlled, like all of Google's services. ...why do feminists argue for society attending to women's problems before attending to men's problems? I haven't met any that argue that, and I've been a feminist for 6 years. Most …

On the 'protecting yourself from false identification' front, it is my personal belief that you shouldn't need to do anything. We should have the presumption of innocence. It's a Universal Human Right. Actually. Article 11. I elaborated here: http://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/1gwwlk/talking_to_a_feminist_friend_she_said_she_thinks/caoyr3u?context=3 Feminism doesn't advocate for shared shelters. It's true. Most of them downplay the prevalence of the male victim. I keep a few studies boo…

I'm a Web Security Analyst. My career path went: Phone Computer Tech -> Desktop Support Technician -> Server Support Technician -> Biometrics Software Development -> Web Development -> Senior Web Development -> Web Security Analyst. So I have a fairly broad range of experience. I can safely tell you in every job I worked, I worked with 90% men. Nerdy men. It was great. Are you a programmer then?

Hey typhonblue, First and foremost, I'd like to say I'm excited. This is my first post to you, but I've been watching you and GirlWritesWhat for a while now on YouTube. This one was my favorite (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uR3EBwrttuA). You were both very educational, and rewired my brain a lot. Thank you. Anyways, I'm a feminist and an MRA, and I have to contest a few of your claims here. Which is sad, because I like your work. First I'll agree with you: ...actively erasing male victims of r…

It does make me wonder why misogyny is such a widely used term for woman hating, but we simply use man hating for when we want to describe something misandric. Because dumb people don't know big words. It takes years to teach them new ones. Especially when the words look confusingly similar to "wizardry", which has positive connotations.

In fact I think it is pretty counter-intuitive to try to say one group has the short end of most of the sticks, simply because there are so many sticks to measure. YES. So yes. I keep telling people this. So refreshing to have someone tell it to me. Mad props to you. If you want to call yourself a feminist that is fine. I don't think that word means what you think it means though. The feminists tell me the same thing when I say I'm an MRA. I figure, as long as I'm equally hated by both teams, I'…

My post above had shit wording. You totally should've disagreed with that. I sounded like a bitch who needed a smackdown. You just laid it. No problems there. I also look forward to great conversations. I'm assuming you're a full-blooded MRA?

Most men are not rapists I'm really sorry if I somehow implied I thought that. I'm an MRA too, and I hate disgusting comments like, 'Here's how not to rape'. I mean, they're always targeted towards guys, but it's not the feminism I signed up for. That shit is misandry. suggesting that men give up their location details at every hour of every day Fuck no! But if Google was tracking your position, not the government, and you had the data available, and it was in your control, it would be handy in …

It would be a false accusation of rape, but like, I just wanted to emphasize that she thought it was you (mistaken identity, poor memory in a traumatic situation, etc), but now everyone knows it wasn't you. Not trying to hide that it's a false accusation of rape. Also, 'falseley' isn't a word.

Definitely agree. I have a few friends with divorced parents, and the ones where the parents 'maintain a cordial working relationship' are much better off than the ones where they hate each other's guts. The kids who are split 50/50 between both parents are better rounded. Then again...I only know 4 friends with split parents...so...like...not exactly 'science done!', y'know?

Yeah. I was more asking how to get a 50/50 split. My future husband is probably just as good of a father as I will be a mother. It's the biggest thing that comes between divorced couples, and 50/50 seems fairest.

I'm actually female. By your description though, I should probly date myself. I'm a web developer. Fuck staying home all day and depending on someone for all my financial needs. That sounds lame.
/r/MensRights23/06/13 11:35 PM
1

Not necessarily. For instance, if Google put out a service that tracked your location at all times, and a girl thought you raped her, but you were actually across town, then they can go after the real rapist, and you're fine. If a domestic violence shelter was opened for people of any gender, that would help both. Additionally, feminism isn't competing for finite resources in the government. The amount given to feminism might not change. Maybe the money to fund MRM activity would come out of the…

I agree on every point. Gender equality is the best solution. Everyone, regardless of ethnicity, gender, or orientation, should be given the same opportunities, and handed the same punishments, as everyone else.

/rAskFeminists is a really good place to find really nice, tolerant feminists. I think it's important to have solid definitions though, and it's true. "Sexual objectification" is as vaguely defined as it gets.

Ok...how would housecleaning and sex affect alimony?
/r/MensRights23/06/13 10:58 PM

So...like a year?
/r/MensRights23/06/13 10:56 PM

I don't know if alimony, disposability, and rape culture are feminist constructs, and I don't fault you for hating feminists when they hate you. I will say that feminists don't hate what the MRM stands for, at its most basic level (equal rights for men). They mostly just hate anti-feminists MRAs, because...well, like, obvious reasons. Of course feminists would hate antifeminists. Just like MRAs hate anti-MRAs.
/r/MensRights23/06/13 10:56 PM

In my experience, feminists tend to concern themselves with women's issues, and MRAs tend to focus on men's issues. I think there is a toxic culture that doesn't need to exist. Some MRAs hate feminists, but almost every feminist hates MRAs. It's sad. It's not a zero-sum game. Most people on both sides are perfectly reasonable...most of the time. I mean, we're all rights activists, fighting social issues, right? I don't like it when we fight each other.

I'm a feminist and an MRA. I'm not flipping out. /u/SomeArtist seems reasonable. I hate it when my fellow feminists block men's rights. That's something that should be fought.

I found the MRM through feminism. I originally heard it from a feminist friend who was really pissed off at the MRM for being anti-feminist. I initially didn't like MRAs for all of their "misogynist bullshit", but then I actually came here to learn for myself what "scum of the earth" you all are. Then I found that you're actually reasonable people, with completely valid points. You don't hate women, and you're not intrinsically anti-feminist. Many of you expressed anti-feminist comments that wer…

I'm young, never married, and don't have kids. However, a lot of this stuff scares me. How do I make sure that if I do get married and have kids, and get a divorce, that I get equal custody? Can that be done with a prenup?
