Absolutely! I'm a couple decades older than you so I don't have as much time to recover financially. I took a 6 figure hit but it would have been much worse had we stayed married. My real estate holdings have doubled since the divorce in 2019 and she would have been entitled to half that increase even though she never paid a penny. The sooner you get out the better off you are. Just don't get married again. lol

Get a vasectomy and a divorce. You will be much better off in the long run. You're on the hook for child support but should only have to pay alimony for 6 years. Yoh are young enough to financially recover from it. I went through it 7 years ago in FL and finished my alimony last year.

Haha....I agree. What's even funnier is the professor had a long ponytail, big beard and wore faded jeans and flip flops to class....basically the stereotypical "Old Hippie". To top it off? His name was Professor Lawless.....I kid you not!

It's funny....when I was in college all the way in the last century (1980) I took an intro to the legal profession course. The professor said that "A" students in Law School become Professors, "B" students become Judges and the "C" and below students become Attorneys and make all the money. 🤑

It's funny. My ex insisted I file as well, then when I was ready, she put it off for a month. In the answer her attorney filed a counter claim for divorce. My attorney suggested it was just a waste of the filing fee.

I'm right there with you. Cost me about 200k all in after an 11 year marriage. I'm starting over in my 60s though.

I'm in Florida and got divorced 7 years ago. Married for 11 years, no kids and both worked. My ex's attorney's original offer was 375k cash lump sum and 2500 a month lifetime alimony. My attorney wanted to know what kind of drugs they were on....lol. After 9 months of her attorney wasting time and such they settled for 95k lump sum and 800 a month for 6 years....and she had to pay her own attorney fees of about 15k...lol.

Never get married again. Most women are looking for someone to take care of them financially and otherwise. I would say don't get married, but my son just got married a couple of years ago. I wish he and his wife well.

The interest that was transferred to a joint account and used for marital purposes becomes marital property. The inheritance kept in a separate account remains outside the marriage.

My divorce hearing was on Halloween several years back. The evening my much younger fwb was going to a Halloween party as a cheerleader, so we had sex with her in costume before she went to the party. Best way I could think of to celebrate my divorce being finalized. Oh yeah....the next weekend we flew to Nassau for a couple of days.

Depending on the state you are in you will probably be on the hook for alimony. However, it's a small price to pay for your freedom. Get out now while there are no kids and you're still relatively young. You could move to a lower COL area and probably not even miss the alimony payments. Probably be a win win for you.

I got mine 18 years ago at 45 when I was engaged to my now ex wife. Been divorced for 6 years and am really glad I had it done. Absolutely no regrets!

Unfortunately, depending on how long you've been married, you will still be supporting her while she starts a new life. It is presumed in family court that a man should support his ex wife so she can continue living the same life she had before.......just without him. I was married for 11 years, no kids, and I had to pay for my ex's condo for 6 years after divorce to give her enough time to bag her next victim.

I just did the math. If you get paid 26 times a year and your CS is 1158 a month they should be withholding about 534 from every paycheck. Only problem is this simple math is above what most CS people can do.

Was married for 11 years. We both worked and had our own kids....none together. She was a school teacher for 16 years who quit to become a nanny just before the divorce. Her attorney asked for $2500/ month for life. They settled for $800/ month for 6 years. Located in FL and just finished paying a couple months ago.

You can rest assured she will come after every last cent she can Women are taught that from an early age. Best to lawyer up sooner than later.

Well, you can always prepare for a divorce She will get at least half of everything and a bunch of child support and probably alimony. Then she can go find herself a nice woman and settle down on your money. It's just the way of the world.

I disagree with you on that. I am a Boomer who got divorced in 2019. Paid alimony for 6 years and wasn't able to deduct it because Trump had changed the tax law in 2018.

I wholeheartedly agree with this! Divorce is even better when you finish paying alimony!

Actually, I had to get a policy with a higher face value than the total alimony amount because it was the minimum amount they would write. I couldn't be too choosy since I was 57 at the time. Had to get a minimum 10 year term too even though the alimony was only for 6 years.
/r/Divorce_Men02/12/25 03:03 PM

Yes, making the alimony payor get life insurance to cover the amount of alimony is normal from what I've heard. I'm in FL and got divorced 6 years ago and it was written in the settlement that I had to maintain LI on myself for her benefit. I just finished paying alimony a couple of months ago and switched the beneficiary of the policy to my son. I always joked that my ex was probably hoping I'd die the month before alimony was up so she would get almost the full amount plus the insurance payout…

I got mine 18 years ago at the age of 45, just before I got married. I had a 9 yr old son and my fiance had 2 kids the same age range. We didn't want any more. It was great during the marriage and after getting divorced 7 years ago. No worries about any "oops" since I am still seeing women in their fertile years. Many women have been happy to hear of my shooting blanks.....lol Never regretted it for a moment.

Women have been getting child support for generations. If you're "entitled" to it as women always are....collect it. I had to pay 18 years of child support and just finished paying 6 years of alimony.....all because the women were entitled to it. Get yours while you can. If the income was reversed you can be damn sure she would have her hand out.

Yes, Florida is an equitable distribution state. I was divorced in Florida 6 years ago after 11 years of marriage. I had owned my home for decades before getting married. Your wife is entitled to half of any principal payments made during the marriage, half of the money you spent on renovations and half of the increase in value during the marriage. You will have to buy her out and refinance in your own name after the divorce. There is no "my" money in marriage....it's all "our" money. lol You ne…

In my state the ex can't get alimony if they are in a supportive relationship with someone. My divorce decree said if my ex got married or entered into a supportive relationship ad defined by state law the alimony would cease. Hard to prove a "supprtive" relationship though.

Florida is a no-fault state, so her cheating doesn't factor into the divorce. Florida is also an equitable distribution state, so you keep anything that you had before marriage. The house will be marital property and subject to distribution. Depending on how long you've been married you will be paying spousal support. Of course, CS is a given. I got divorced in FL 5 1/2 years ago after an 11 year marriage and I'm almost done with Spousal support. I had alot of assets prior to marriage and kept e…

Women are so quick to advocate for divorce because they usually come out ahead financially. I'm a man who got divorced after 11 years of marriage back in 2019 and I had to pay a 6 figure settlement and am still paying alimony. The relationship was over more than 6 years ago but my ex has had her basic living expenses paid since. Why not get divorced? It's almost like winning the lottery.

I was married to my ex for 11 years. The house was mine for a long time prior to marriage. I lucked out because we got married in 2007, just after the RE market had peaked. Value dropped quite a bit in the ensuing 5 years then began to rise again. When we divorced in 2019 the house was only worth 18-20k more than date of marriage. It only cost me about 10k to buy her out. Since then the value has increased about 600k. Lucky me...lol

^This! I had a similar issue with my son's mom. She claimed him as a dependent for the first 13 years of his life. I was awarded him as a dependent for the last few years remaining. The first year we filed a 8332 and was fine, then the second year she called me to inform me that she filed early and claimed him. I claimed him anyway and received a letter from the IRS that he had been claimed by another party, I filled out the Form 8332 with all her info but didn't forge her signature....just left…

I was going to say that it depends on what state you are in and the length of marriage needed to be eligible for spousal support. It's funny how around that time they lose interest in being married, yet still want you to support them financially for years to come.

7 years wasn't long enough for alimony much less lifetime alimony in FL. I'll bet Ohio has a more generous policy. File quickly in FL.

No fault is just that.....no fault. There is no he said she said....nothing matters except that you want to get divorced. In fact, your spouse doesn't even have to agree to a divorce.
/r/Divorce_Men22/02/23 04:50 PM

FL is a no fault state but they do have equitable distribution in case you had assets prior to the marriage. However, FL is very generous with giving alimony.
/r/Divorce_Men22/02/23 04:39 PM

The income from a single member LLC flows through to the member for tax purposes. Thats why you don't need to file a separate tax return for the LLC. It doesn't matter what account you keep the money in.
/r/Divorce_Men21/01/23 02:27 AM

The payment method should be agreed to and spelled out in the divorce settlement. As per our settlement agreement, I pay my ex her alimony by wire transfer the first of every month.

There are appraisers that specialize in doing retroactive appraisals. I had to have one on my homestead since it belonged to me solely and I'm in FL.

/r/Divorce_Men04/07/22 12:16 AM

Florida is a no fault state therefore her infidelity would not matter in terms of alimony.
/r/Divorce_Men11/05/22 06:30 PM

With the figures you quoted, she should have to pay you support.
/r/Divorce_Men13/09/21 01:00 AM

Then everything is marital property and subject to distribution.
/r/Divorce_Men04/08/21 01:15 PM

It all depends on the state you are in. More than likely you will be paying alimony. As far as the assets are concerned, it depends on the state and how much of them was acquired during the marriage.
/r/Divorce_Men04/08/21 02:24 AM
1

In FL you both have to have a lawyer when there is joint real estate or kids involved.
/r/Divorce_Men15/07/21 12:01 PM

Depending on where you live all of your funds during marriage are joint. "Your" money that was used to pay for the house was half hers. It happened to me.
/r/Divorce_Men04/07/21 05:20 PM

In FL I believe the Petitioner has to show up for an uncontested divorce hearing. I don't know how it is in your state. If you weren't the Petitioner, you probably shouldn't show up.
/r/Divorce_Men04/06/21 07:51 PM

Isn't that another definition of alimony?
/r/Divorce_Men13/05/21 07:53 PM

An engagement ring is a gift given before you are married and therefore not marital property. As for a wedding ring? Again....technically given before you are married since the marriage isn't legal until the license is recorded. Splitting hairs, but that what divorce is all about....lol.
/r/Divorce_Men08/04/21 06:27 PM

I dpnt know the laws in CA, but if it's in both names it usually doesn't matter. Ypu need an attorney to answer these questions competently.
/r/Divorce_Men08/03/21 04:32 AM

Sounds like you may have a coercion defense to the prenup. You need to find a good competent family law attorney.
/r/Divorce_Men08/03/21 04:21 AM
2

Did you have your own attorney when the prenup was drawn up? If not, then it is most likely voidable. Like the previous person said, get an attorney and go after thr prenup.
/r/Divorce_Men08/03/21 04:11 AM

It depends on the state and if you put her name on the deed also. I just got divorced last year in FL and my house was in my name though we had refinanced with her name on the mortgage. We were married 11 years and my ex got about $800 from the house and I had to refinance to get her off the mortgage.

/r/Divorce_Men09/12/20 01:38 AM

It doesn't matter how much you paid. All the funds you used were considered "joint" since you were married. All the money was half hers ......even in an equitable distribution state.

She'd have to show a really good reason to get an extension. I'm in the same north as you...I'm just over a year into six years of alimony in FL.
/r/Divorce_Men20/11/20 08:44 PM
2

Has your ex indicated she wanted an extension? I dont believe they do that in FL. I'm guessing you were married 11 or 12 years and she is receiving durational alimony? If she agreed to 6 years, that's what she gets.
/r/Divorce_Men20/11/20 08:39 PM

Because she spoils them even though they are adults. The son especially has the mentality of a 5 yr old and called me a f@# as##* in my own home. I threw his lazy ass out of my house and my ex divorced me. Good riddance!

I love my ex and hate her kids! They were the reason for the divorce.

It depends on the state and if you had the business prior to the marriage and if she ever participated in the business in any way

It all depends on the state you are in and what you agree to. I am paying my ex by a wire transfer on the first of the month.

Someone in an earlier response mentioned sex. I am in my late 50s and all the women I've met from 50 to 62 aren't interested in sex or even intimacy. A hug or a peck on the cheek is all. Is it just me? I understand why men like younger women.....lol

In my case, it was really sad. My wife and I got along pretty good.....we were the love of each other's lives....to this point. Unfortunately, her son never liked me or my relationship with his mom. He was 8 when we met and I figured he would grow out if it. He never did. In fact, his jealousy and resentment toward me continued to grow. When he was 20 he started a physical altercation with me that ended with her leaving me and wanting a divorce. By the way, he also hates his father and stepmothe…

After my wife and I separated in 2018 she said she wanted to file separately. I agreed and did my taxes as married filing separately . Before I filed she came back and decided she wanted to file jointly because she would owe money filing separately . Filing jointly we got a 1500 refund that we split. We got divorced last year and she never changed her withholding. She told me last month that she owes 1100 because of being single. She said married filing jointly had its advantages.....lol

I hed to do the same thing last year for my divorce. Her attorney sent a 16 page discovery request and then several pages of interrogatories. It was mostly boiler plate requests and alot didn't pertain to our situation. I did end up having to provide about 4,000 pages of documentation. It was a PITA! Her attorney didn't believe that I had provided everything ( I did), so she proceeded to subpoena all my records from my bank. All they did by that was prove that I wasn't lying about my income ( se…

Watch "The Divorce Party". It came out in 2019 just a couple of months after I separated. It made me feel alot better and it puts a humorous spin on the situation!

I don't know how they treat modifications, but when I was getting divorced last year my attorney told me that the tax law change had no effect on how the court awarded alimony. I think that sucks, but it is just another way the family courts are skewed toward the poor helpless women.

I just went through a similar situation in FL. My wife and I had separate accounts throughout the marriage. I deposited inherited money in my own mm account. I was told that since I had paid "marital" expenses out of that account that it was considered a marital asset even though my wife's name was not on the account. She ended up entitled to half of the money. However, I did open an investment account in my own name with inherited funds and never added or took any funds from that account. That …

Don't let the ex know about the new income or she'll be taking you back for an increase in support!

Go see an attorney and discuss your options. It doesn't matter that everything is in your wife's name. If it was acquired during the marriage it is joint property, therefore half yours.

I can identify with that. We got divorced mainly because her son and mother don't like me. She initiated the divorce but made me do the filing. She is still bitter towards me a year later saying I'm the one who wanted out. Not true, but a moot point now.

I just went through a divorce in FL. I was told that if the 2 parties incomes are less than 2000 a month different there will be no alimony awarded. Your attorney should have a good handle on it. In my case, we were married for 12 years and I make more than twice what my ex does. I offered her a reasonable amount for 6 years as is customary. Her attorney asked for 3 times what I offered on a permanent basis. We settled on 100 a month more than I originally offered for the same 6 years. Most of w…

Just remember that until you are divorced all that money you make and all those nice things you purchase are half hers.
