Male Genital mutilation is a very common practice amongst all religions in the US. This is my frame of reference. In the US it's not defended on religious grounds, people praise the health benefits and ascetics of it. The US is weird. I always find it funny that a country where genital mutilation and teaching creationism is normal looks down on other countries as if it were more civilized. Also I know that it is not a common practice among the Orthodox Christians in America, so it's not all reli…

Mutilating male genitalia is very much a Christian thing. This is why it is so fiercely defended. You probably just know it by it's PC name of circumcision. I'm well aware that we're talking about circumcision here. And that pretty much the only Christians who practice it are protestants (and as a rule of thumb, if a custom is protestant thing chances are it was invented during the reformation and is not practiced by any other Christian denomination). Both Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox ch…

We will never have a homogenous society, but we need to actively break down the walls between groups before they get built up so high as to deny the very humanity of the out group (as was done in the Jim Crow South and Apartheid. and Yes, I consider these partial collapses of society, and there are examples of this type action being done to women in places like Afghanistan) You don't need to break down walls between groups, you just have to put windows into them so they don't grow. Racism was ba…

Segregation creates distinct in groups and out groups and this causes societies to break down. There is no such thing as a homogeneous society and to create one you'd need to go the Nazi route since it's not a naturally occurring state for humans. We like being different and individual and this will inevitably lead to groups being formed and these groups will exclude non-members from group activities. To maintain a working society you need to manage the rights of groups to be different and exclu…

Produces ARE REFUSING to provide a service to customers willing to pay. They're not. There's plenty of service available to women. You're also missing the point here, and that is that you don't need to legislate this to be available the market will and has provided it on its own. These companies ARE doing something harmful to the society. How is a male only barber shop harmful to the society? It has no impact on the society as a whole. It doesn't create an arbitrary segregation in the society. I…

They're not ruled by a benevolent deity, but rather by a cold heartless one called profit. Therefore as long as trade has existed producers have never refused to provide a service someone would purchase at a profitable price. The idea here is that the government shouldn't impose itself on companies and markets which aren't doing anything harmful to the society and are supplying enough service for everyone to enforce some artificial equality among the consumers. Why would we want an increase in p…

This is not based upon actual biological differences but the outdated sensibilities of the easily offended. That's why you see so many women clamoring to get urinals in the women's bathroom. And the basis here is not sensibility, but rather efficiency and the probability of abuse. If you had mixed gender bathrooms you would be increasing the opportunity for sexually motivated breaches of privacy or even outright voyeurism, while having a less efficient distribution of space, since if a queue for…

Neither is needing to drink a biological difference between a child and an adult, but the way in which they can fulfill it does differ. And I never said that was the biological difference, I said that reasonable separation into groups can be made on the grounds of biological differences and applied to some activities. According to your logic you could say that needing to use the bathroom is not an actual biological difference between men and women so why separate them in that case.
/r/MensRights29/11/14 04:37 PM

That really depends on your definition of reasonable. If you consider segregating people based on appearance reasonable then yes it was the same. But if you equate segregation based on race and separation based on gender how would you justify gender-specific bathrooms or tampons not being marketed to men? If you expand this logic even further then children should be allowed into pubs to order a pint. There are reasonable separations in the human population: you can reasonably separate children f…

Most feminists have a male haircut. (Which doesn't suit them, but hey, at least they're fighting "the man" by having it). They could in that sense presumably use the same barber, but that's not the point. The point here is that a business owner should be able to create a business which caters to a specific demand on the free market and not be forced to change his perfectly reasonable business model to make someone feel better about not having a penis. edit: corrected my appalling grammar mistake…

I didn't actually write at any point in this conversation that I have "such trouble with women". I'm not the OP. But if it's relevant my problems with women mostly stem from the fact that I'm a lazy, cheap and overly-religious to do things properly. As you've remarked I don't really have doubts in myself, I'm confident to a fault, possibly at times this confidence is not well grounded, but still. However, I've never before heard someone find an argument to be faulty because it was based on logic…

That would assume I had a place, am able to cook anything and that it wasn't too cold for outside dates for close to half a year, but I get what you mean. I do like talking to girls. They're sometimes even more fun to talk with than guys, since the whole dynamic is more interesting. However, the effort for me is in making things escalate physically at a reasonable rate. I'd be perfectly happy dating a girl for a month before initiating any physical contact more intimate than a handshake, but tha…

It's still is an ad hominem, you made no attempt to support your claim of me not having sufficient knowledge and experience to evaluate the circumstances which he presented. People who use their experiences to support general statements can't expect them not to be evaluated as part of the discussion and once they are presented as an argument the only logical course of action is to treat them as information you are equally aware of. You can't use something as an argument and then claim you have t…

What I've noticed is that I'm often more anxious about a girl saying yes than saying no. I mean if she says no that's the end of it, but what if she says yes? That's when the hard part is just starting and I think to myself that I could be doing something else and have more fun with much less effort. Plus I kinda am a cheap asshole. If I could I'd never spend a dime and then swim in all the dimes like Scrooge McDuck.

It's completely the opposite for me. If some girl who has only ever seen like a picture of me rejects me I can't take that really personally nor care about it TBH, but when a girl who has actually met me rejects me that feels more personal.

I think the biggest thing for me is that I'm kind of a cheap asshole, I don't ask my parents for money (sense of pride) so I prefer to spend my money on my hobbies/travel and I'm definitely self centered when it comes with how I want to enjoy my free time. Ditto. I can completely relate to this. I have very little motivation to go through the effort and expense of getting a girl when I'm not really that sure she'd be more fun than what I'm doing currently (and I don't mean reddit I mean generall…

Scientific reasoning is behind drug laws. I've met a lot of doctors coming from a family in which half the people are in the profession and have quite a bit of experience on what they think on the matter and why. The issue here is not whether such drugs have effect on the psyche, it's rather about whether this effect provides a sufficient net benefit to be prescribed as regular treatment. A substance which causes total addiction after a few uses and treats a non-life-endangering, non-terminal co…

If that other guy is reading this, that ^^ last comment is an ad hominem. You can tell because it contains no relevant comment on what is said, but rather only tries to discredit what is said by attacking the personality of the person who said it.

But it's not the same as "I'd rather be stupid and happy than smart and unhappy". Kinda is. You're really discussing semantics here. Possible but highly improbable. You mean possible but much more difficult and longer.

losing a few IQ points to gain the richest experiences available to a human That is literally the definition of trading brains for happiness. Whether it was worth it really depends on how many points you had to spend and was it possible to do it without this cost.

To me, it's more than a fair tradeoff. The age old "I'd rather be stupid and happy than smart and unhappy". It's sad how many people subscribe to the idea that it's an either or choice.

ad hominem bullshit It's not an ad hominem if we are discussing your experiences. Ad hominem is a logical fallacy which refers to attacking the personality of the other person rather than the objective issue they are discussing. You didn't cite a relevant study or a general statement. You said YOU had "a profound experience." If you're discussing personal experiences then an counter argument will necessarily consider your personal situation and is therefore not fallacious. This was after 2 years…

Yeah, crack and crystal meth are totally a representative sample of most drugs. They are. Most drugs are things which will seriously fuck you up. The four you listed are pretty much the only ones which have limited long term effects. Acid, mushrooms, MDMA, and marijuana can all give you really important insights, change your perspective, give you incredible and profound experiences that can have lasting positive effects. Important insights are gained by weighing facts with a clear head. What you…

Yeah, nothing solves anxiety about dancing as well as taking crack cocaine or crystal meth couple of times a week. it'ssarcasm Once your teeth start falling out that really sidelines the whole I'm slightly awkward at dancing thing. Almost all drugs are worse than alcohol because of a single reason: if you took most of them as often as you drink alcohol you'd be completely addicted. People drink alcohol because it's relatively hard to become addicted to it if you only drink for parties and stuff.…

Yeah, it sounds like you know where you shouldn't go then. Don't ever go to a techno or hip-hop club if you feel like that. It won't be fun and you won't be fun. I never go there, but there is this one which is across the park/street from where I spend my summer and it's the worst. It literally blares non-stop techno from like 20h to 6 in the morning regardless of the day or pretty much anything. There can be a concert to which the entire town goes, and they'll still be blaring it so loud my fuc…

Also, are we talking all clubs, or just ones that play techno? Because different clubs play different kinds of music. I don't go to techno clubs at all. Either rock or folk for me. I'm sophisticated/rednecked like that. Out of curiosity, why don't you like dancing? Even if you don't ever learn it, I've known few ways to escalate as quickly with a girl while simultaneously getting an excellent read on whether our temperaments match. It's a matter of preference. I also hate rice and hoodies. Can't…

I have the same problem as OP. I fucking hate clubs (unless I already have a girl with me and have drunk a lot of booze, in which case they're tolerable, mostly because it enables me to escalate kino quickly). I hate dancing and while going out is fun, my night gets ruined when they all go seizing like epileptic monkeys and I'm forced to either join or stand there doing nothing. You can also never actually talk as a normal person over the music, so making jokes or any conversation becomes unnece…

If she considers 5'8'' very short, she's not an exception.
/r/seduction09/11/14 09:56 PM

Not to mention that in the large majority of nations and ethnic groups average height is only barely above 170 cm (5'8'' or thereabouts), which means that her example of a very short guy is what is in real life actually an average human male (if you consider all humans together). Also since height is has a fairly bell curved distribution and the average even in the west is about 180 cm (5'10'' I guess), that means that at least half of all guys are necessarily less than average (or very short as…

No I wouldn't I am surprised with how popular George is here though, but given that he usually had a girlfriend orders of magnitude hotter than himself that might not be so strange. Maybe he's a Seddit expert.
/r/seduction09/11/14 07:41 PM

I'm about the same height as you (since you gave it in footsie approximates, so it can go either way), but I never found height to be that big of an issue if you are over 170 or 175 cm depending on what's the national average. Sure, it might mean it's a bit harder with the HB9s and tall girls, but in the end you can make it work. However if you are under 170 cm then your difficulty level gets to expert.
/r/seduction09/11/14 07:38 PM

I wasn't talking about just being attractive enough for women to like you, but being attractive enough for them to consider you out of their league (HB9s as OP discussed). My point was that OP's claim that this applies to ANYONE is bullshit. I used George Costanza as an example because I needed a short bald guy for an example and he was the first one I thought of. Also, George Costanza seems to be getting a lot of love here.

That's why I said unless you count magic height extension. They can do absolutely nothing about being short and it's a major obstacle for them to climb over. The worst thing is that women rejecting short guys over their height is seen as perfectly normal, but a guy rejecting a girl over her height or weight is seen as insensitive. The funny thing is from what I've seen women mind a slightly fat guy less than a slightly short average-bodied one. Saying that you can become Adonis without already h…

Yeah, unless you count plastic surgery and magic height extension or miraculous hair regrowth or plan on walking around all day with no shirt on to show of them abs and guns, there's absolutely nothing you can do about most of the things which determine physical attractiveness. Not even the best haircut in the world and the most dashing of suits coupled with a shitton of charisma are gonna suddenly make a George Costanza doppelganger into the guy girls consider "too hot" for themselves. You migh…

We have that in our law (Croatia). You are legally obliged to take care of your parents if they have no income. However, almost everyone has a pension in old age, so it's rarely applied.
