A lot of people who are anti-RP, myself included, think that TRP is wrong on at least some issues. See, inter alia, "Women are children," "Single mothers are subhuman," "It is right to push through 'LMR'."

TBP does have a theory: that TRP is wrong.

TBP is just 25K masturbation by people who should really lose 40 lb, take a shower, and go play outside. That's it everyone, shut down the sub.

What makes you the qualified arbiter for what women should and shouldn't want? I have common sense and, rare for this sub, I go on lots of dates. Is "white knighting" just a term for anyone who disagrees with TRP? I always thought it meant jumping in to defend women on the internet in hopes of getting some female attention. There aren't, at least to my knowledge, any women on PPD I would take out for drinks. I don't have some ulterior motive. And mere anti-misogyny, without more, surely isn't "w…

As has been said many times: most of us wouldn't have an issue with TRP if it wasn't hugely misogynistic. There's nothing wrong with teaching men what women like.

It's what everyone wants. We desire the desire of the (m)other; through our demands on the (m)other we seek a mutually destructive (but asymptotically receding) unity. Freud might say that your disgust betrays your desire.

The fact that you didn't have it doesn't mean it doesn't exist, and it doesn't mean you don't secretly want it (probably more than someone who has experienced it).

I'm just pointing out how fundamentally inconsistent your positions are. "I am opposed to big government" is mutually exclusive with "I would be OK with Sanders as President." Sanders is the biggest big government candidate since FDR. Those two positions literally can't go together consistently. Hillary is far more fiscally moderate than Sanders.

I'm Liberal in the strictest sense: I believe in minimal government interference because this is the best way to maximize individual liberty, which is good per se. All moralities and political philosophies are historically contingent, and therefore, because none of them can be traced up or back to some absolute, fixed "Natural" law, the best form of government is that which interferes with people's lives the least.

If by "quality" he means "high status," then he's right. Notwithstanding RP's fear of accomplished women, it's just as much in a man's best interests to marry "well" as it is in a woman's best interests. A high status wife has better connections, which means better job opportunities for the man and better educational opportunities for their children. She also will likely be able to bring a significant income to the household, or, at least, a significant amount of cultural capital, both of which …

Your argument seems to assume that a prevalent adaptive trait must not be bad or immoral. Many adaptive traits are prevalent and bad. Racism is prevalent and bad. Murderous impulses are prevalent and bad. Uncontrollable sexual impulses are prevalent and bad. Same for jealousy, manipulativeness, anxieties, ennui, anti-intellectualism, and a hundred thousand other character traits and tendencies. Describing yourself with "pills" is stupid. But logically a person is either pro-RP, anti-RP, or believes in a mix of RP and non-RP ideas. There's literally no other option. Even if you haven't heard of RP, you either believe in their principles or you don't, or you believe in some of them and not in others. Quartum non datur.

Something like 30-40% of dudes ever passed on their genes. I'm pretty much blue, but this is, admittedly, rather depressing. Even if one stands, as I do, in a good position to pass on one's genes, it's hard to see how a conscientious person could do so without a kind of survivor's guilt.

However, wrt. TBP, isn't it necessitous to their narrative to embrace the collectivist terms of the powers of state so as to stand opposed to them Yep. That's what I'm saying I find problematic. Also, how is one supposed to communicate with others if they refuse to use the accepted discourse for its trappings? You have a good point: it would be nearly impossible to function outside of the existing discourses. imo, it's sufficient if one is aware of the historical contingency of e.g. identity pol…

I'll try. Let's take the "gay" identity as an example. Same-sex love has existed since, as far as we know, the dawn of mankind. The categorization of "homosexuality" as perversion did not occur until the rise of the state (and particularly the state as contiguous with the people within the state, rather than as contiguous with geographical borders) and the sciences of e.g. statistics and psychiatry. Good government creates categories in order to efficiently dispose of them. In order to exclude c…

Yes, I do think they give a shit. Then why do they date porn stars? The kinds of doors that close for a rapper don't close because they dated some young groupie. So unless you have a particular fetish for actual teenagers, there is no real incentive to long-term-relationship one once you are in your 20s. But the standard RP line is that young, nubile, inexperienced virgins are desirable per se.

As far as I can tell, RP isn't super concerned with LTRs anyway. Many RPers believe that LTRs are a trap. You still don't answer the question, which is, "If RP is right, why don't these alphas go for younger, inexperienced women?"
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/16 05:12 PM

But obviously alphas don't care. Why is that? Are alphas like Nietzsche's blond beast, who "with a single shrug simply throws off himself the many worms which eat into other men"? I think that there's something like this at work here—alphas shrug off, through sheer force of will, many things that for the Terper would tank a relationship because of the Terper's weakness; the Terper, by contrast, stumbles through love overwhelmed, with a kind of autistic over-sensitivity, through which every even …

I've seen Terpers say several times that "real alphas are in prison." Those "natural alphas" are probably from the same social class as the low IQ athletes and rappers. Why don't these "alphas" have a visceral reaction to sluts? Are you saying that only non-alphas have such a reaction? If that's the case, isn't it possible that alphas don't care about sluts because they're secure in themselves and their sexual ability and know that they're going to be just as sexually satisfying for their slut p…

Are you deliberately hurting anyone? This position leads to an absurd result. Assume, for example, a person who believes that having sex with a married woman is harmful. Under your position, it would be permissible for this person to get very drunk such that he does not intend harm and have sex with a married woman, but impermissible for that person to do so sober. That Barbie looks like it has an unhealthy BMI. But I really don't care what children's toys look like. Excellent legal analysis. Since you're so well-versed on the relevant law, the following will obviously be a mere refresher for you: A police officer is prohibited, by constitutional and criminal law, from killing a person except in severely circumscribed situations. When a police officer kills a person outside of these situations, he is acting unconstitutionally and illegally. A person can only be executed by the state after he is convicted of a significantly grave offense by a jury of his peer…

It has nothing to do with gender roles, and everything to do with environment A gender role is "is a set of societal norms dictating what types of behaviors are generally considered acceptable, appropriate or desirable for a person based on their actual or perceived sex." It's my responsibility up to the point that I make a clear argument. Beyond that, any failure in comprehension is your fault. Do you think that, just maybe, different cultures have different ideas of gender roles? Do you not see how what you're saying is proving my point? Within a given culture, certain clothes are seen as appropriate for men to wear and not appropriate for women to wear. Wear a skirt to work (assuming, dangerously, that you have a real job) and see how that goes over. We know that there's nothing inherently biologically male about wearing or not wearing certain clothes (e.g. tights). Therefore, to the…

Gender roles are arbitrary to the extent that they are not strictly required by biology. To the extent that they are arbitrary they are social constructs. It is not, e.g., a biological necessity that men not wear skirts (see Scotland).

(1) That would be highly unlikely and therefore, even if it's possible, it would not be logical to disregard social norms (if one has an enormously higher chance of success by following path A over path B, it is illogical to follow path B if one wants to succeed); (2) money, without more, is not socioeconomic status anyway. Socioeconomic status is, definitionally, economic and sociological. Therefore, like I said, ignoring social norms is not logical. Saying "following social norms is illogical"…

they are just scared to say that they want more than just a platonic friendship, If you're so terrified of the world that you can't ask a woman out then you're going to have a difficult and disappointing life. That's probably one reason why these guys are so undesirable. /r/PurplePillDebate03/01/16 07:28 AM
3

No. This only works if the acceptance, approval, or companionship are friendship, and not a romantic relationship. But why would someone who was only expecting friendship be surprised when his friend dated or fucked somebody else? The answer, of course, is that he wasn't expecting friendship at all, but to get what he wanted (pussy) by doing what he's been doing his whole fatbody beta life: dragging his feet and complaining until someone does the work for him.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/01/16 05:29 AM
5

The nice guy didn't expect reward for that, but was perplexed by the asshole type getting more attention. These two things are mutually exclusive. If he is not expecting pussy, which you call "reward," he will not be surprised when the pussy goes to someone else. By the way, sitting around and waiting for a woman who is clearly not romantically interested in you to finally give up on life and settle with you is not "doing the right thing."
/r/PurplePillDebate03/01/16 05:22 AM
6

So what? Even assuming that you're right, and they just want a sexless romantic relationship, they're still pretending to want something that they don't want—namely only friendship—and expecting their basic human decency to be rewarded with such a romantic relationship. This is also exactly why they're creepy. e: lol downvoted by the TRP niceguy brigade.

Actual experience is a solid alternative to TRP. Most of the things about which TRP is right are things that you pick up on your own as you spend more time pursuing women. Talking with guys is also a valid alternative. Guys tend to be pretty straightforward and un-PC about the nature of women when they're in a group of dudes, esp. if they're drinking. Both of those things are significantly psychologically healthier than sitting on a reddit sub reading misogynistic vitriol three hours a day.

I think you need to edit your post so: Demonstration: Sex A can have 10 potential kids per time X. Sex B can have 1 potential kid per time X. Sex A and B rejects a mate, and then spends X amount of time looking for a new mate. Sex A lost 10 potential kids. Sex B lost 1 potential kids. Sex B loses more by rejecting a potential mate. Sex B will be less choosy. Sex A loses more by rejecting a potential mate. Sex A will be less choosy. Great post as always.

But RP demanding an accounting from BP of why RP is wrong is not how burdens of proof work in arguments. RP is saying that things are a certain way. I don't know where RPers get their idea of this nightmare world where if you're not a hung Jared Leto you're consigned to a twilight life of computer screens and masturbation. In my experience, you pretty much just have to be around to get laid. You have to just be out there.

I mean, no. The Greeks had a purer democracy than we ever have. The Roman Republic lasted nearly 500 years. Also, not everything preceding the Renaissance was "ancient," and, so far from it being the case that there was "no culture" before the Renaissance, Renaissance culture was a revitalization, literally a rebirth, of ancient aesthetics.

The scale of tyranny in the 20th Century is a result of the size of the populations and the technology available, not the ideologies. There have been terrifying tyrannical ideologies since people gathered together to form societies. Look at Genghis Khan! By no stretch of the imagination was he popularly elected, and his tyranny resulted in ~40mn deaths. And of course there have been tyrants in human history before democracy. Tyranny—which literally means "one man rule"—reaches back in Egyptian h…

Also, I don't think "sapiosexual" is supposed to be a sexual orientation, such that a sapiosexual man is always sexually attracted to both men and intelligent women. And? TRP often admits that it's for betas who are trying to mimic alpha traits. I fail to see how you could conclude that TRP holds that no alphas get married from TRP telling people on TRP not to marry. That would only follow if we assumed (1) that all alphas are on TRP, and (2) that all alphas on TRP do what TRP tells them to do.

This situation should not happen if you have properly chosen your woman. This is exactly the no true Scotsman fallacy. OP: "You should choose a woman who has conservative values and a job—she won't take half your assets." TGP: "What if she decides to leave her job to take care of the kids?" You: "Well if you choose a woman with true conservative values, that won't be an issue."

This is actually one of the few things on which I agree with RP: women, at least in my experience, are not good at verbalizing what they want. And when they ostensibly do tell you what women want, that advice is often misleading. It takes some time for a man to come to understand women, and the only way for him to do so is through experience. Women suck at empathy I really don't think this is true. I think that it may be true that in many cases, a woman may have a hard time being empathetic with a man with whom they are in a relationship, because a certain degree of empathy presupposes relative weakness, which is, in my opinion, per se unattractive for most women. This is a problem, of course. But watch an average woman interact with a child, or with another woman, or with in some cases a man with whom she is a friend, and tell me th…

The RP explanation for your experience would be that you rationalized the breakup on the basis of a lack of or bad communication, when in fact you broke up with your ex because he had fallen in value in your eyes (even if you were not conscious of it). Whether or not RP advocates men marrying lower status women, there remains the very real preference that most women have for higher status men. As with every other crime, rape must be proved beyond a reasonable doubt to a jury. If there is no evidence of any sex whatsoever, there is not going to be a rape conviction. If this is the case, then the woman will likely be prosecuted for false rape claims, defamation, etc.

Many men find a high n-count unattractive. Many do not. It could be bad for them in that a potential mate would turn them down on the basis of their high n-count. That's not what tyranny of low expectations means. A tyranny of low expectations is where e.g. one group in society only expects another group in that society to put its shoes on the right feet in the morning, and therefore that second group never reaches its potential as it would if its members were expected to be fully functional, reliable members of society. I think this is a bad argument. I also think that /u/cincilator could have formulated the duty more clearly: a TRPer might argue that men don't owe women a duty of fair dealing in the negotiations, as it were, of the SMP. That is, if women don't owe men fidelity, men don't need to be scrupulously straightforward with women, so long as those men's actions remain legal. Note that this is not what I believe.

Unless you're Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, everyone in a relationship is in a situation where their SO could potentially find, and be happier with, someone else. Contemporary feminism is, as far as I'm concerned, divisible into two camps: (1) The reasonable belief that everyone should be treated equally before the law, and that men and women should, for the most part, be treated the same way; and (2) The neurotic preoccupation with non-issues like gender roles in Disney movies, and whether or not men sit with their legs too close together or far apart on the subway. The second type is the focus of unhappy women, usually with a college education, a tepid …

It's really not at all clear that porn has a negative effect on sex drive or ability to be in a healthy sexual relationship, regardless of what the /r/nofap cult believes. I think that if porn has made people more kinky, it's merely because it has exposed people to new ideas. More people know about BDSM now than before, therefore more people are curious about it, therefore more people want to try it.

Obviously when I wrote "refuse to date someone who isn't in their own social class" I meant refusal to date because of the difference in social class. Even if catcalling were a natural instinct, that would not excuse it. Murder is a natural instinct. Masturbation is a natural instinct, yet doing it in public is not excusable. We also boast some of the best universities in the world, the world's largest GDP, the world's largest army, the tenth highest quality of life in the world. We're also the twentieth freest country. Greece, on the other hand, is the European nation equivalent of the bum cousin who won't move off of the living room couch. It hasn't contributed to the world since the fall of Constantinople in the 15th Century (and arguably long before that). It's not even in the top 30 countries for quality of life…

Greeks seem much less miserable than the Americans despite what they're going through Typical of a weaker, esp. a European country to point to America's failings in an attempt to assert moral superiority. We're not perfect, no. But we're a damn sight better than Greece. But don't worry: like the failed high school athlete who now works at Subway, Greece can always nostalgically look back to the glory days... only at least the athlete actually himself earned his glory.

You can tell a post is a bad post when it can be dismissed by simply saying "Yeah, and?" That is, when, as here, the truth of the assertion has no bearing on our continued debate about gender relations. What's your point? Nobody is saying that there is some immutable natural law that demands that a woman take her husband's name in marriage. It's just a tradition in the U.S., and some men and women prefer it.

Strictly speaking, a job is not necessarily a profession. A profession is a job that (1) requires formal, specialized training (law school, medical school); (2) is often regulated by some regulatory body; and (3) has been widely accepted as having professional status (which is usually accompanied by a good deal of prestige and perception as an "élite" job). Professions include: medicine, actuarial science, law, and accounting, among other jobs. Plumbing is not a profession. Film is not a profess…
/r/PurplePillDebate29/09/15 11:44 PM

No. Read what I wrote. I don't think that working in film is as difficult as working in law, medicine, or finance. I don't think that film work deserves as much respect as those jobs do.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/09/15 11:29 PM

I'm not going to pretend that every job is equally difficult, subject to equal expectations, and equally deserving of respect.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/09/15 11:23 PM

I mean traditional professions and those jobs that have come to be seen as professional: law, medicine, finance and accounting. These professions are all "small c" conservative, and in them, appearance is very important. I also think it's a little silly that you're trying to tell people about professional expectations when you work in film.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/09/15 11:13 PM

I'm not sure what your question has to do with TRP. It seems like such a person would, if they're honest with themselves, come to the conclusion that their spouse was with them out of necessity regardless of whether they encountered TRP. Indeed if anyone, disadvantaged or not, is honest with themselves, they'll realize that the person with whom they wind up is a reflection of their own value, since no rational actor would choose a mate of lesser value over one of greater.

Moreover, I don't think that many of you BP women care whether true gender equality is achieved. I know that many of you like to mock TRPers as socially inept neckbeards, and frankly, I don't think that this image is too far off. I do think, however, that this is because any claim for men's rights has been effectively marginalized, and therefore people who openly associate with that group are probably people without a great deal of social awareness (as is the case with anyone who willingly assoc…

I like to wear nice clothes; I like having my nice apartment with nice furniture. I also like looking fit, which requires weight lifting. I don't think I'm alone in this. If you really don't want any of those things, then don't do them. Of course, if you don't strive for those, then I don't exactly see how you're improving yourself. Video game high scores don't count.

See? This is exactly the kind of male shaming TRP is talking about. Man mentions a hobby and is told to "get out more". When was the last time you told a girl to get out more for mentioning some fringe hobby? He was just talking about a girl reading yaoi comics. I literally just "shamed" a fringe female hobby in the comment that you replied to. You guys are so ready to expect your own victimization that you read it in where it doesn't exist.

Yes because the world of social interaction exists, and sex robots would be social suicide. Also, relationships entail emotional connection which would be impossible with a robot. I resent you for making me take your absurd sex robot arguments seriously (which I have to do to rebut them) btw.

A number of responses, like yours, by RP men explaining the phenomenon in RP terms have been deleted by the mods (as I suspect yours will shortly be). This is because I was asking BP women to reconcile (1) their belief that men and women are equal with (2) their expectation that men should pay for dates. I was not asking RP men to give me an RP explanation of why men pay for dates. So again: thanks, I guess, but read the question thoroughly before starting to write your exam answer.

I'll say this again because apparently you're having trouble reading. My OP asked this: if you are a woman who both believes that men and women are equal and believes that men should pay on the first date, how do you reconcile those beliefs? Let me know if you need me to post this a fourth time.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/15 04:44 PM

Yes, you're right. That single anecdote (which doesn't even involve a date lol) proves that women want to pay for their meals, and that men have caused this problem for themselves.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/15 04:42 PM
2

No justification, then.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/15 04:40 PM

Whoever does the asking should expect to pay This amounts to saying that the man should pay. See my edits to the OP. Do you have another justification other than this circular one?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/15 04:40 PM

the women tends to do the lion share of the housework and child rearing, which is unfair. I think you meant "woman" and "lion's share," but I agree.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/15 04:39 PM

So it sounds like what you're saying is this: "The expectation is sexist. It is incompatible with the idea that the sexes are equal. Therefore, Mr. /u/anacrassis, you were correct in your assumption: there really is no good way the reconcile to two positions. I'm going to affirm this point, and not resort to petty ad hominem when you brush away my irrelevant arguments."
/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/15 07:23 AM

I was exaggerating your point. Sorry, I must have seriously misrepresented the reasonableness of the original: "Stop asking people out ... and run away."
/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/15 07:20 AM
3

That would be the case even if women would take a higher-paying job if they could, just as it's very likely the case that men would not pay for the share of dates that they currently pay for if they had the option. You're still OK with that?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/15 07:08 AM
1

That's a great system. It sounds to me that you would join me in saying that there is no good rationale for the expectation for men to pay more than half of the total dating expenses.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/15 07:04 AM
9

By this rationale, the gender pay gap is perfectly OK. Why? Because if women are willing to take a job that pays less, that is, "get together [with their employers] and agree to certain conditions," then "there is hitting [sic] wrong with it."
/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/15 07:02 AM
3

Don't ask. Literally nobody is making you Great advice. Nevermind that you're ignoring the question, which asked for a justification. You're saying that if men are unhappy with one aspect of dating, they should stop dating entirely.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/15 06:50 AM
5

That's an explanation, not a justification. Also, men are only "willing" to do it because it is expected of them. Why would anyone expend resources if they didn't have to?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/15 06:49 AM
3

I'm coming to know you as a poster who gives good and practical advice, like "If you don't want to pay for dates, stop dating entirely and see if civilization collapses."
/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/15 06:43 AM
1

it would be rude to basically just demand someone go somewhere with you without that You're right. This would be extremely rude. Because, however, I and most of the men in this thread live in civilization, and not in a Mad Max post-apocalypse, we tend to ask women to come with us on a date.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/15 06:41 AM
6

It's a big deal because of the context in which you made that post. Because you made that post in this thread, it looks like you were saying that, because in some circumstances on would pay for one's friend's meal, a man should be expected to pay for a woman's meal. Context, as has been stressed, is important. If I'm with a friend in a bar and ask if he wants to get a drink, he's going to assume that I want to drink beer, whether or not I'm secretly thinking about getting a smoothie from a place…

I'm saying I know about that rationale, and I'm not interested in it. My OP asked this: if you are a woman who both believes that men and women are equal and believes that men should pay on the first date, how do you reconcile those beliefs?

That's an explanation, not a justification. Are you saying it's as unjustifiable as expecting women to do housework? Also, this is a separate issue, but is it not PC to expect a woman who stays at home, and doesn't work, to do the majority of the childcare and housework?

/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/15 01:42 AM

No. In response to the point you made, the edit points out that almost exclusively men are the ones to initiate dates, and therefore saying "the inviter should pay" is the same as saying "men should pay." This is not a justification, but is circular logic ("the inviter should pay" = "men should pay," and therefore "men should pay because then inviter should pay" = "men should pay because men should pay").
/r/PurplePillDebate02/09/15 01:40 AM

You've yet to tell me what is wrong with my suggestion that the inviter plans to pay and the invitee offers to split If I haven't explicitly mentioned the problem, that's because the problem is so obvious that I didn't think it needed to be mentioned: it assumes that the man should plan to pay. If you had said that people should simply split the bill on a date, I would be fine with that. Nearly every week, I invite my friends over for a dinner party. I pay for the dinner- every time not just the first time they attend. I'm not concerned with the expectation that the host of a dinner party pay for and prepare the food. This is a false equivalence. A true equivalence would be paying for your friends' meals every time you suggested that you go out to a restaurant to eat, or to a bar to get drinks.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/09/15 11:31 PM

If your response was merely intended to answer dakru's question, without regard for the context of the thread in which the question was asked, then your answer cannot be an attempt to justify the expectation that men are to pay for dates. I don't entirely believe that that was your intent, but if you claim that it was, fine.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/09/15 11:27 PM

you respond by telling them not to worry, you just want them to come and enjoy themselves without worrying about money Plainly I'm not talking about situations where you assure your date that she doesn't need money before the date. You're avoiding the question.

/r/PurplePillDebate01/09/15 10:49 PM
2

I'm not a TRP guy. Also nearly 40% of women expect men to turn down their offers to pay. That puts me at risk, in two dates out of five, of souring the date, independent of other factors, if I follow your advice.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/09/15 10:46 PM

I'm not sure how that's not on-topic, or at least any more off-topic than your initial reply.

So because payment trends might be sexist, I am obligated to buy meals for women? Did I establish payment trends? Am I personally responsible for every negative aspect of our society?
/r/PurplePillDebate01/09/15 10:41 PM

I'm really asking about dating, not marriage. I didn't mention marriage, or post any data about date-paying tendencies among married people the study didn't distinguish between married and unmarried, but the article from which I got the study was about dating. Mea culpa. But it sounds like you would say that women should pay for half of a date.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/09/15 10:36 PM
5

Sorry. This may explain why someone would want to pay for you, but it doesn't explain why men, generally, have to pay for women, generally.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/09/15 10:18 PM
9

"Feminism" is a spectrum of ideologies, and many women may simply not want to associate themselves with the extreme end of that spectrum. More instructive, I think, is that 85% of Americans believe in equality for women, and 78% in "social, political, legal, and economic equality of the sexes." Therefore, my question still stands. Why, if women are equal, am I expected to buy their food?
/r/PurplePillDebate01/09/15 10:13 PM
8

Well, good for you, but that puts you in the minority. I'm interested to hear whether there is a justification other than "the inviting party should pay," as that's just another way of saying that men should pay. As for your suggestions: when I'm on a date, frankly, I'm probably trying to get laid. Telling someone to eat a salad or overtly challenging their philosophy on gender relations is not really compatible with that goal.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/09/15 10:07 PM
31

The huge majority of women—93%—prefer to be asked out. Most women do not ask men out, and most men ask women out. Therefore, saying that "the person who initiates the date should pay" and treating it like a fair solution to the issue plainly ignores the fact that men are expected to initiate the date, and amounts to simply saying that men should pay for the first date. This just brings us back to square one. e: /u/dakru also has a good response to this argument.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/09/15 10:02 PM

/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/15 09:46 PM
0

I guess this is my problem: On TRP, which I read quite often (for the same reason I read Jezebel), AWALT is not used as a mere term for a concept that means something other than AWALT: it is used to indicate that, in fact, AWALT. When, however, the term is challenged on PPD, it quickly becomes something else: a mere caution that, in some circumstances, it is possible that women will act a certain way. This, of course, is completely different from, and actually contradictory to, the plain meaning…
/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/15 09:32 PM

I know the term "straw man" is thrown around on the internet a lot, often incorrectly, but what you've just made is a bona fide straw man argument. What I said: "AWALT is susceptible of a generalization fallacy." Your straw man: "You're saying that any generalization is fallacy!" To explain my actual argument: a generalization fallacy occurs where in a sample, the presence of quality X in group A is used as the basis for the claim that in the general population, all of group A must have quality …
/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/15 09:23 PM

No, I haven't. My original point was that AWALT either must really mean NAWALT, or it must be susceptible of a generalization fallacy. You and others have pretty much all agreed with me on that point.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/15 09:05 PM

That might be a function of the value we place on sex and that we place on property. Rape (forced sex) is worse than robbery (forced taking of property); just so, manipulated sex is worse than manipulated taking of property. Frankly, I have no problem with this standard. Feel free to manipulate women into buying you things.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/15 09:04 PM
1

If Person A and Person B are equally intelligent, but Person A has spent hours studying how to manipulate Person B, we would still say that it is immoral for Person A to manipulate Person B to do something that Person B would not otherwise do.

/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/15 08:25 PM

I know this is futile, but do you happen to have a source for that?
/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/15 08:23 PM

When challenged, AWALT quickly deflates into "all women might do bad things, given the right circumstances."

Either way, your inference that people on TRP grew up in households where parents lied about hot pans from one person's analogy about hot pans is bizarre.

Either AWALT or NAWALT. Tertium non datur. You can maintain that AWALT, in which case it does seem to be a fallacy of faulty generalization. Alternatively, you can hold, as you have done here, that AWALT really means that "one should act as if AWALT," and that, like pans are sometimes hot, women are only sometimes LT. This, of course, necessarily means that NAWALT.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/15 07:48 PM

I guess you could look at women who divorced and remarried soon after, where the divorce was instigated by the woman, and compare the attractiveness/income of husband 1 and husband 2 at the time of divorce.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/15 07:40 PM
2

That seems kind of like hedging, doesn't it? As far as I know, "all" isn't usually used to mean "slightly less than three fourths". I think that the TRP response to this would be that all women would not marry a man unless he was AF/BB if she had the option, but that some women settle out of desperation.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/15 07:38 PM

This is the kind of bizarre psychological speculation that TRP is being criticized for in this thread.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/15 07:29 PM

/r/PurplePillDebate18/08/15 07:27 PM

If your pan analogy were accurate, then, just as the parent knows that not all pans are hot, the people on TRP who preach AWALT would have to recognize that, in fact, NAWALT. This is not the case.

OK. It looks like the distinction that you're drawing between permissible and impermissible preferences is this: It is permissible to either 1) have a preference for a quality that you do not have if that quality is a physical characteristic (height or hair color are "just a preference for a particular physical feature"); or 2) have a preference for a quality that is not a physical characteristic only if you share that quality (unlike height or hair color, partner count is "a feature of someone'…

If people claim that women like promiscuous men, and women in fact like chaste men, then the people making the claim aren't being hypocritical, they're just making a false statement. I'm having a hard time seeing how your point is relevant at all. I get the feeling that you really just want to talk about how people pair up by degree of promiscuity.
/r/PurplePillDebate30/04/15 11:33 PM

A promiscuous women is not per se bad. For me at least, whether a woman is promiscuous is just one factor among many to be considered. I prefer a woman who is not promiscuous, but if she has other positive qualities that outweigh that, then I would still be interested in her as a short or long term partner. (I use "positive" and "negative" subjectively.)

I cannot tell a woman is a "slut" while I am having sex with her. 1: You totally can. 2: Even if you couldn't, you also can't tell if a person is a barista or a hedge fund account manager when you're having sex with them. That doesn't mean that those qualities aren't very different, or that they would be irrelevant to whether a person would be more or less desirable as a mate.

Whether or not "slut" is a "made up term" (unlike all other English words?), the quality of "high number of partners" is obviously on the other end of the sexual experience spectrum from the quality "low number of partners." In the same way, "short" is very different from "tall," and "dominant" is very different from "submissive." What if that's the reason? Why would that matter? I personally prefer women who have had sex with fewer (preferably half or fewer) partners than I have. I'm not trying to present a unified theory with all of my posts. This isn't a judicial opinion. I came in saying that I thought that there was a double standard such that women can demand that men be masculine, but men cannot demand that women be feminine. Men have often been trained since they were children not to show emotion. This is not something that can be easily overcome. Many men have internalized the message that they must be manly to the extent that they might think that death is preferable to opening up, particularly as their thinking is distorted by depression. This must explain, to some degree, the difference in suicide rates. If you can't sympathize with a person who is going through suicidal depression and emotional isolation so ext…

Do you think that only men have access to guns, knives and ropes? Women could be just as effective at suicide as men are. Women probably make cries for help more often than men do. I'm not talking about normal self-confidence. I'm talking about a specifically masculine confidence—the kind of aggressive confidence that commands the attention of the group. It would be weird to most if a woman were confident in this way. I think the idea that a woman should be chaste or timid is archaic. That's kinda my point. Expecting femininity is taboo, but expecting masculinity is normal.

I'm obviously not talking about a basic confidence that is required to function in the world. I'm talking about alpha-male confidence, capable of drawing the attention and respect of the room. This characteristic is definitionally uncommon, because not everyone in the room can be the center of attention in that room. Maybe you didn't feel like scrolling back up to check. That's hardly the CC-riding generation of girls we're dealing with. This is what he wrote. It would be absurd to argue that this is not a claim that women now are more promiscuous than women as of the date of the study.

Look at these counterexamples and counterarguments." RP: "All of our axioms are true because of these axioms of ours, which are true."

NAWALTs Hey, a lot of us don't speak your man-village creep lingo. If you want to have a debate with us, speak in plain English.

1: Your comment is dripping with misogyny, which proves the point that many of us are trying to make about TRP being a den of poisonously bitter sexists. 2: Women rate 80% of men on okcupid as being below average. Have your ever browsed through the male profiles on okcupid? It's like a rogue's gallery of the lost and undateable. It's about as accurate a cross-section of the male population as a bus stop at 3:00 a.m. in a shady neighborhood. 3: Despite your wailing, getting laid is super simple. …

I know plenty of women who work in law or finance who thrive on constructive criticism.

Who doesn't pine for the good old days, when a man could beat his wife in the privacy of his own home without the state interfering?

You'll realize when you get older that the guys who marry playboy models are the guys who never really grew up. No one looking to build a family, or even a stable, enjoyable life wants some dumb bimbo who can't string a sentence together to save her life.

Don't pretend you're special for noticing this. Everyone notices these things. It's not ignored by mainstream society; mainstream society just takes it in stride and doesn't get half so bent up about it. Nut up, man. Better yourself. You'll be alright.

You know those overweight girls in class or at work with a permanent sneer on their faces? Whose bitterness about life is palpable in their every conversation? TRP is the male equivalent of that.

Then they're stupid or deluded. Who cares? That some people miss the message doesn't mean that the message is not there. Ask any idiot on the street if he thinks that being handsome is important for getting women, and he'll say yes. What kind of world do you think you're living in?

I'm no redpiller, but I flat out don't buy that women are insecure because of "society and the media." I think women are insecure about their looks because of competition with other women. Frankly, this is one thing I'm glad that men don't do: externalize every damn thing, and blame society for all of the frankly huge pressures that they're under.

Maybe that's because anyone who's not autistically literal will see for themselves that being attractive is a pretty important factor in attracting women.

Whether or not I want to live in one society or the other, to be a twenty-something in New York is to live in a tournament species society.

So, what is wrong with r/theredpill? Should I just be a yes man for the rest of my life? It's not a choice between total pushover and borderline rapist. You can be assertive and confident and also not be a misogynist. I think that TRP is right in some of its observations. As a point of reference, racists are right in some of their observations too—it's not that all of the premises used to draw their conclusions are unsound, it's the misleading way those premises are used that's problematic. For …
