I'm curious if people think this rule still applies at larger workplaces (thousands of people). It's reasonably likely that I could meet a girl outside of work who happens to work in the same place as me, or at a work event with her being in a completely different department that I'd never interact with. I assume it's fine to proceed as normal in such a case?

Lately whenever I see something on Seddit that I want to upvote I can count on you being the author.

Thanks, this is useful. I'm pretty bad at keeping conversations going and handling silences. I'm going to keep #4 and #5 in mind. #3 is hard for me, though --- how do I make it feel like I'm not just making boring small talk? Whenever I ask a question out of the blue I feel like I'm coming off as desperately searching for something to say. What are some techniques for making that feel more natural?

I suggested it and she sounded interested, but had plans all weekend. I probably should have aimed for Monday/Tuesday, but she was about a 40 minute drive away. I figured that might have pushed it later than would be reasonable for a first date.

Thanks, I think this is all very accurate. I'm in a CS graduate program, so scarcity is definitely the default mindset. That's the main reason I'm on okc, though I should probably find more places to expand in real life too. I'll take your suggestions!

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
