I host an expressive arts program at a local women’s shelter, and I’ve seen exactly this. Women come and go and they all hold a special place in my heart but there was one woman — diagnosed with terminal cancer — who I will never forget. Her husband filed for divorce because he “couldn’t stand to know when she died.” That’s what prompted her homelessness and why I was able to know her. I haven’t been to the shelter since COVID began but I constantly wonder how she’s doing, if she’s still alive. …

Unfortunately true. While I was at peak PickMe, I mistook missing companionship with missing my LV ex. I was hyper-fixated on the good aspects of our relationship which overshadowed everything that was fundamentally wrong. I gave him far too many chances and, surprise, he never changed. In fact, he eventually proved that all of the worries and fears I felt during the relationship weren’t out of left field. I wasn’t insecure or scared without reason. I felt this way because my body was trying to …

I met my ex through Bumble. His suggestion for a first date was driving us down to Providence, RI — which is an hour and a half from me — to see a concert. My dad said, “absolutely not, I need to meet him before you do anything together and you are especially not visiting another state with a stranger.” My 20-year-old self was incredibly upset and embarrassed but I thank my dad for that now. He knew better than I did and boy, was I naive.

I was led on for ten months. I thought he was a HVM but he broke up with me before my birthday and was in contact with his ex within a week. It’s heinous that men use women to “heal” (more like stifle) their emotional baggage and then discard them once they’ve finished or once they get their dream girl back but part of me wishes that he would have been forthcoming like this. At least then I wouldn’t have gotten involved with him. I admit I’m still a bit of a PickMe but I’m trying so very hard to…

I told my ex that I felt uncomfortable inviting another person into the bedroom with us. He wouldn’t stop bringing it up, however, so finally I put my foot down and said enough. This is not happening, not with me. If you want to do this, find another woman who is okay with it because I am not. He was all butthurt saying, “I thought you’d like it since you’re attracted to women.” Why my head and my heart think I miss that prick I have no idea.

She looks better with whatever the fuck makes her feel happy and confident.

This happened to me too. </3 I’m so sorry, honey. Stay strong!

On the flip side of things, watch out for someone that is flaunting you to try to make past flings or exes jealous.

Looking at it again, I don’t really understand the problem either haha. I think the c-word is what’s offensive? That’s my guess at least

Aw, I apologize. I didn’t even notice it, to be honest. 🥺

Question, hypothetically how would you feel if your husband kept in contact with an ex or exes?

I’m sorry to ask this so late but could you help me with the difference between being a wife and a girlfriend?

Just out of curiosity; what, in your opinion, are the nuggets of truth?

I am so deeply touched by this message. I think I may be going through something very similar to you, or we’re at least feeling similar ways. Thank you for this response. I wish for you so much healing, strength, and growth. May I ask what you did during your self-discovery and during your alone time? Also, how long have you been off social media? I’m trying to wean myself off but, after about a week, I fold and re-download all of them. I just went through a really traumatic breakup a few days a…

Do you two have a routine where you agree to spend time before sleep together? Or in the morning?

I wish my boyfriend and I could find a routine that works for us...I think our communication is still very poor and maybe this could be a good exercise for us to strengthen it. Or maybe I’ll realize that I’m way in over my head and he doesn’t like me as much as I like him or as much as I think he does, lol. You two sound like you have such a healthy and fun relationship. It’s simple but I like it that way, and it works for you two, which is what matters most! It’s really beautiful. 🥰 I strive fo…

I’m the same way!! <3 I do feel a bit resentful. There’s just so many mixed messages out there about whether something is worth working through or if someone should sever the relationship and I’m left confused. I’m left with lots of self-doubt. Have you ever felt this way?

Okay, this was really crucial for me to read. My boyfriend is really invested in the music scene so he puts a lot of energy into it, but between this and spending time with his family or alone, I’ve gotten the short end of the stick. I never feel like a priority or that I’m important to him. I’ve tried to talk to him about it but he always says that he’s too busy to see me as often as I’d like but it doesn’t mean he loves me any less. I’m not so sure this is true now. I don’t know how to feel, h…

I respect this a lot! I can tell there must be a ton of trust and admiration between you two. I’m trying to fall more along your lines because I’m the opposite. I wish I could see my boyfriend everyday but he doesn’t have time to see me that often. I see him once a week or every other week because he’s so busy. It’s hard for me to tell the difference between being clingy/unreasonable and feeling neglected.

Thank you so much, dear! I’ve started a new diet as well it seem to be a similar struggle. Our brains certainly love familiarity and routines, don’t they? I love that last paragraph because I’ve begun to rekindle my shaky relationship with my mom once I went off social media. I noticed that I put the validation of strangers over the validation of my loved ones. It was an insane realization. Do you mind if I ask what you did with the spare time you had, once you stopped watching TV?

Okay, this was perfect. So much so that I’m going to screenshot it and read it from time to time, lol. Thank you so much. I hope that anyone who needs to see this, sees this. I distinctly remember seeing an influencer post a video of her childbirth a few months ago, where her and her child were completely exposed, and that’s when I knew that social media was being abused in a dangerous way. I do believe that women should raise awareness about what they go through before, during, and after childb…

This made me so sad. I can tell you have such a huge heart, petal. I cannot believe it even fits in your chest. I‘m so incredibly sorry that these people have been so vicious and nasty to you, but please don’t put yourself down, especially as you continue to put them on pedestals. Their “higher tier” in societal or professional settings is arbitrary and unimportant, and maybe not even true. My advice: Look into ways to assert yourself. Right now you are an easy target and they know they can keep…

Lol, that third paragraph is too funny. Thank you so much, dear. I always appreciate a reality check, and I needed one badly. I hope this wasn’t a silly question and other women can take from this as well. Much love. x 🤍

I’m assuming that when 6‘ became the “standard,” 5’8 became “tiny” to them.

Oh wow, I did not know this was a common opinion. That‘s such a relief but I really shouldn’t be surprised. Height preference is so arbitrary! Like another poster said, femininity is a mindset. Thanks for sharing both of those stats! Thank you again, sooo much! This is all great advice, and I hope more young girls can see these responses and understand that they don’t need to obsessively worry about physical characteristics. That this isn’t what a HVM/HVW is about.

Spot on. I’m 20. He’s 19, almost 20. And I’m constantly exposed to the, “if he’s not taller than 6 feet, throw him away” rhetoric. You’re right. I am giving this too much headspace and I wouldn’t want to disrupt my boyfriend’s security over my insecurities. Thank you for giving me a really thorough and specific reality check, it’s exactly what I needed!! I’m glad you and your husband are so happy. Thank you again. This really eased my worries. 🤍

I personally don’t think you should just let this go. What he is doing isn’t acceptable or respectful behavior at all. Name-calling damages relationships, no matter how “innocent” the word is, and it’s just not productive. Also no, you do not deserve to be called stupid or dumb, no matter what you did— as that further proves his behavior is unhealthy and damaging your self-image. Taking his frustrations out on you is not the role of a true man. He needs to be supporting you, just as you seem to …
