When I was in high school, so like 10+ years ago, I didn't really understand why people would look down on her. I thought it would be so cool to be able to say you had sex with the freaking president. I didn't realize at the time that sex was only an accomplishment for men.

It's crazy how much shit sticks with you from that age. There was a boy in my class around that time , he was the fat funny kid so he made fun of everyone, and noticed the slightly dark peach fuzz on my arms and laughed at it. This was an ugly dude, there were hairier girls in my class, but I shaved my arms that night and it became a habit for the next 15 years because of that dumb comment.

Sorry but the dude taking your white strips is so ridiculous it made me laugh, what the fuck is wrong with people, why would anyone ever think that's okay

My partner and I are the same way. Part of it is that I am a "list-making and post-its" type planner, while he is a "pace and think about things" type of planner. So to me, he appears more unplanned than he is, when he just doesn't discuss every plan out loud with me. He is also definitely more laid-back than me though. Honestly I've just learned to let him do his own thing. We aren't often working on the same thing, so our different work styles don't matter. I cook most of our meals for example…

I feel like I wound up with the rare man who has zero expectations lol. That's funny you bring up the beard hair, because when we first got together I was all up in his business when he trimmed his beard "I can clean it for you!!!!" And he looked at me like I was insane. I practically begged him to let me do shit like that for him all the time but he got so weirded out like I was babying him, and I honestly got mad because I wanted to be 'helpful.' But he hates people doing things for him, and s…

Holy shit. I'll be honest I don't want to get married yet which I know is an unpopular opinion here. (It would be a really bad financial move considering I would lose a huge chunk of financial aid for school and other stuff.) But in the meantime he makes the money and I make the dinner. I can't imagine lumping this stuff in with 'housework' this is like next level, intrusive kind of 'helping'. Is this a thing men want or expect, wtf?

I know what you mean but I don't think it's fair to blame Reddit lol. Like I know the kind of a shitty lazy dude who just jerks off to cam girls, making her feel like she needs to be ~submissive~ aka making her feel like shit for not doing enough housework while they both work 40 hour work weeks. I just don't think it's fair to awesome every Reddit user is like that? My man and I both use Reddit and honestly laugh together at people like that. I feel like that was a huge reason I was terrified to get pregnant when I was younger.. I was worried that if / when I got pregnant, it would be some sort of biological thing where his dick looked at me and thought "Well we can't get her double pregnant, she's useless, let's find someone else for now." Weirdly the opposite has happened, in my third trimester his sex drive has just shut off, and we were joking that there's no reason for him to have a sex drive for the next few months anyway.

Yes physically intimacy is important. That does not mean you should ignore the safety precautions put in place by every major health organization, ignore your partner's safety and comfort, and go making out with some dude during a global pandemic. Wtf lol

I think everyone is handling things differently. I have family who are taking many more precautions than me, even though I am pregnant and this is quite a scary time for me. I have family members who are higher risk and have decided to take less precautions than me. My fiance and I are the only two members in our household, so we've decided what precautions we feel are reasonable, where we can have a little wiggle room. I have had people try to change the way we were doing things one way or anot…

Like I get if what you want is out of the ordinary. My partner had to tell me he hates when people are touchy feely towards him, I told him early on not to take me out to eat.. we suck it up for each other, he touches me and we go out on his birthday, but those are odd this about us. Like being complimented is a pretty standard thing in a relationship. Just fucking assume you should do that. Dudes like that always say "oh well I didn't know, she didn't tell me" like why do you have to be told???

Unless you're my partner, I washed all the curtains last week and thanks to pregnancy exhaustion they just sat in the dryer for awhile. I asked him to hang them up for me, and he asked when we got curtains. These are the same curtains we've had in our home since we moved here over a year ago.

No just gets confused as to why I try to hide basic things that he clearly knows I do lol. Like I will talk about makeup, excitedly show off new makeup, have him see my natural vs made up face hundreds of times... Then if he sees the beautification process happening, I'm like NOOOO you can't know about this, I don't wear mascara!!!!! Just something instinctual in me that confuses the hell out of him, like why TF are you hiding that?

I am nearly 30 and I still have this weird juvenile idea that my appearance should be ~effortless.~ Hell I have lived with my partner for years and I feel weird when he sees me painting my nails or putting on makeup. He gets so confused like ??? I know what you look like and I know how the makeup gets there...??? There is this weird thing so deeply ingrained in me that makes me feel like I ought to "keep the spark alive" by creating the illusion that i look differently than I do. I've noticed th…

To address your question, if I really want something and we disagree on it, we talk about it and generally come to the conclusion of "Oh I see your point and it makes more sense. Let's do that." Either of us would get really frustrated if our feelings and POV were just dismissed. But this whole situation sounds like less of a relationship problem and more of a shitty dog owner problem. This whole thing sounds like a mess, I have so many questions idk where to begin lol.

Yeah I guess that's true lol.. basically what I did too. I feel like that sounds like the dumbest way to go about it for normal people, but I've always been an overly analytic control freak, so has he, so I feel like this was our attempt at finding somewhere closer to normal lol

I was on hormonal birth control since my first serious boyfriend, 12 years ago at this point. A little over a year ago, I told my partner I wanted to stop my birth control because of shitty side effects, plus my own inability to decide if or when to start a family was driving me crazy and I wanted to just leave it up to the universe and stop over-thinking and over-planning. He told me he would take over birth control, anyway I'm due next month 😂

It's fine if some people don't value holidays / gifts as much, I know some people genuinely don't care about them! But you should know whether or not your partner does, and if it's important to them, then honor that ya know. My partner could care less about holidays, they are not sentimental AT ALL, pretty much just say to each other "get me this please for this holiday" and that's it. But that is NOT me at all lol. I made this really clear from the start and he makes holidays super special for …

I really don't get it. EVERYONE in my family is like this (not just the men, I just have a shitty family in general) but the worst is my grandparents. They celebrated their 50th anniversary recently (pre-corona), and just sat home and watched TV. My grandma LOVES going out, loves vacationing, loves going out to eat, loves going on day trips. My grandpa loves going on day trips too. But her whole thing is she doesn't want to be a burden, she doesn't want people to have to do work. Like dude what'…

Always sad to see another woman devaluing any effort that isn't traditionally masculine. Again, I value an equitable partnership over an equal one. I too am a grown woman - not a man.

I mean if you wanna do things fair and 50-50 go ahead, you do you, hope you're splitting the housework too in the name of fairness. I make my man breakfast, he buys me flowers, I'd rather treat each other as individuals than identical people with identical needs and desires.

Just because a lot of men do it doesn't mean it's good. Most men watch porn, expect their partner to split bills 50-50, don't know how to pamper a woman, don't put any effort into their appearance or lives... Like find a better man if it's early, if it's too late and he is an otherwise good man , communicate your standards and expectations.

That sounds like oddly specific guidelines. Do you travel out of state frequently as well? Or did he twist your arm into agreeing to him cheating on you as long as he talks about it for an hour (???) and uses protection (he didn't) and stops once he comes back (he didn't). Yes something is up with him- he's cheating on you and you are going along with it saying "Yes dear I am a good submissive woman I obey my man!" Like you don't do that when the man is clearly a piece of trash lol

Yikes, come on. I get a dude not wanting to have sex as often because of stress. While I definitely don't agree with it, I can at least understand a "poly" relationship. Doesn't sound like that's what's happening here. He DOES want to have sex, just not with you. Y'all don't have a well-established polygamous relationship with clear boundaries. He is fucking women across the globe while you are presumably not getting laid elsewhere, he's not even being safe about, and now that he's back in town …

Yeah I agree. My grandmother tanned like crazy, bleached the hell out of her hair, used shitty cheap "anti-aging" drugstore crap. Aged great but is similarly neurotic about her looks. My mom's beauty routine is "dove soap" and she is a smoker with a severe drinking problem for more than half of her life. Also aged great. I avoid the sun and drink lots of water, but I'm also not afraid of aging like my family. I'm nearly 30, I don't want to look like a teenager. I look good for my age, and as cli…

Not much has changed for us tbh. Fiance started working from home a little over a year ago. I started taking online classes around the same time. He works weird hours so we rely on delivery for most of our shopping; we are extremely introverted so our date nights are ordering tons of pizza and him drinking whiskey, me drinking a soda until I'm done being pregnant. Nothing has been affected except it takes our groceries a bit longer to come and I've stopped throwing packages on the couch (which w…

I think a lot of it has to do with how we view "work" nowadays. There's this sort of sexist way of assuming that anything outside of the typical male approach to work (40+ hours a week, 9-5, PTO, white collar) then it isn't reeeeeally work. You can grow or bake foods and sell them at a farmer's market, sell crafts at a craft fair or Etsy, write e-books, watch other women's children, buy and sell used stuff online, tutor young kids, event planning... Everything you said is totally possible to hel…

There's nothing wrong with having non-career goals and taking the steps to achieve them. However, if that's something you want to put on the back burner, use this time wisely! Don't just go to school to pass the time, but invest in yourself while you don't have other priorities. I know so many women, including my mother and MIL, who have just began to find themselves, hobbies, a career, now that the kids are grown. As I venture into motherhood myself, I am seeing how easy it is to lose yourself.…

I don't think the point is that you should literally wear office wear and a full face of makeup when you're doing dishes, just to reevaluate who you're looking nice for. Do you an hour primping before going to work, or going out with friends, or visiting family while on your days home with your partner just say "Ah now I'm home with my man and I can do nothing" and spend little to no effort on looking cute? I definitely did when I worked outside of the home, fake lashes, cute bra, cute shoes, ha…

I feel the same way about my partner. I really don't notice other people. I mean, in a sort of "Yes that woman has nice hair and nice makeup, that man has nice eyes, sort of way," but not a sexual sort of thing. I always just assumed men couldn't do that, that their thoughts were inherently sexual. He really doesn't seem to care for other women. When we met I was model-thin, underweight. He could go on for days about the things he found sexy about me. Now I eat healthy, plus I'm pregnant.. so I …

My man works from home and I am not working and pregnant. So I've had to step up my loungewear game lol. I pretty much live in leggings and low cut but comfy tank tops. Add a cardigan when it's cold, swap it out for a skirt when it's hot.

I had similar symptoms on Mirena. Constantly emotional and weepy. My doctor told me "birth control couldn't affect my mood" but I felt better when I had it removed. We used the pull out method for a year and a half and it took a few mishaps before we got pregnant lol. But yeah, don't rely on it unless you're okay with that. I've heard a lot of women say tracking their ovulation is reliable.

I mean a few things to consider. How long have you been together and how chubby are we talking? Have you been together 10 years and you are medically underweight and he prefers a girl with curves? Then I might consider being less strict with my eating habits. If it's some dude you met a month ago who likes 600lb women I would say no lol. My fiance and I have always lived very isolated lives, by choice. He works from home and I attend full time college classes online. So we are home together every day for the last .. year or so? Before this we both worked outside the home but lived in a studio apartment for years. Having a slightly different schedule helped us. A few things to point out, as others have already given good advice. You mention wanting to keep the honeymoon phase- which I understand, that was and is super important to me too. At the same time, life together is long, and there will be weeks, even months, where it's just not possible. I try to put in as much effort to my appearance and our household as I did at the start of our relationship. I don't think you're overreacting, and I don't think you should just accept things in a relationship that don't fit your standards. You can talk to him about it but I wouldn't go about it with the goal of trying to change his behavior. Me personally, I wouldn't be okay dating someone who enjoyed porn. Been there, done that, just not worth it.

I actually feel a lot differently about Valentine's Day. It's hard for me, because I've always had a hard time accepting kindness from people in general, plus I do feel a bit of guilt over not being that ~cool laid back, "it's just a Hallmark invention, man"~ type of girl that I'm sure every man would like. Nobody wants to feel demanding. I feel like every holiday this comes up in my home where I worry that having expectations is the same as being demanding. My fiance sweetly reminds me that it'…

I'm a firm believer in treating your skin from the inside. I have spent so much time and money on expensive crap trying to treat my excema and hormonal acne, each treatment making the other worse. I stopped my birth control and my acne disappeared. I stopped buying trendy "k-beauty ~ anti-aging~ glass skin~ poreless" washes and masks and serums. I found one gentle moisturizer I like. From what I've read, retinol is a fairly controversial ingredient, some other countries have actually banned the use. Back when I used to use a ton of crap on my skin I tried an OTC retinol product and it pretty much burned my skin off. Which I guess is the point, but my skin has personally been much happier since treating the cause of the issues rather than the symptoms, if that makes sense. I've found the opposite to be true. I always assumed that is how things worked.. You had your "sexy" women that you fuck, and the maternal woman who gives you dinner and snuggles after a long day. As a woman, you just have to decide which role you want to play. I expressed this to my fiance one day and he looked at me like I was crazy, and asked why he couldn't like my body, my company, and my dinner. I was confused. I never considered this before.

I agree, and I don't think it's a bad thing. I also don't think that it's a very... 'complex' (ha ha) thing. I think what it comes down to in either sex is wanting someone who is a cozy partner you can settle down with, but not so comfy you don't see them as sexually attractive anymore. I also think that it is a more internalized sort of complex. This was something I always struggled with when looking within (wondering if I was acting too maternal/wife-y vs. too sexy). With time, I realized that…

No, it's not possible to work from home and be a SAHM. Someone needs to watch your child, and running a business is a lot of work, if you want to do that successfully you can't just do it during nap time or after baby goes to sleep. That being said, do you see yourself having children soon? I think it would be silly to arrange your career around a future husband, future children, future business. Just chiming in to say we are the opposite lol. When my fiance pays bills he always tells me, I mean I know they get paid but he tells me often when he does and I thank him and give him hugs. It's really just not possible to - home cook all of your meals, do all of the domestic tasks, work full time, always look great while doing it, make time for your relationship, and make time for yourself. It isn't a personal failing there is just simply not enough time in the day. The first things to suffer are your care your for relationships or for yourself. I feel like your therapist's advice is common advice that is honestly just bad. It doesn't feel practical to me. I think it is a much smaller issue than it needs to be, to be honest. Professional advice - Laura Doyle, therapists, whoever, are not needed if instead use a bit of empathy. Sorry if that sounds harsh, this is something I definitely used to struggle with too. I'm not saying they're irrelevant, just that deciding them together maybe isn't the best idea as men and women usually have different goals. Make your own timeline and plan accordingly. I just left another long comment but the timeline shit has to go lol. That drove my man nuts. He does not like being told or pressured what to do (who does?). Do what you want but let him do what he wants. Do you not want to have sex until he marries you? Don't. Do you want a baby? Stop taking birth control. Do you want him to provide for you financially? Work less than him. Communicate what YOU are doing to him of course. But don't tell him what to do. Let him respond accordingly.

I feel like most of the time men are just "stuck in their ways" until they have to make a move. Men don't romanticize families like we do. Why would he want to get married or start a family? It sounds like you live together, presumably have sex, your schedule is full (but like damn how do you do all that?!) and starting a family would just mean more work for him. I get the advice to ~just be upfront~ but it feels the same way to me as saying "I would like flowers on Valentine's Day." Like it's not about the flowers, I wanted to think you're romantic. You sent him the info,I would leave it at th…

Definitely, and I am trying to strike a balance in my own life. Even some attention-seeking behavior is normal and fine in my opinion. I've just struggled in my past with doing so too often.

I think the "doing it for me" attitude is a bit disingenuous, at least for me. When I went from working full-time to staying home, I found myself doing much less of these things I thought I did "just because I liked them." When my man goes away for the weekend, my routine changes even more. Nothing wrong with that of course, just with that revelation I try to always think about why I am doing it for me, and often times I have found it is for the approval and attention I seek from others. With ag…

I even draw the line at manicures to be honest. I think it's such a personal decision though. The question I like to ask myself is "Who am I doing this for?" Am I doing it to seek attention and get compliments from strangers? For cute selfies online? To impress my co-workers? To appear socially normal and acceptable? Because my man likes it? I think all of these are valid reasons in one way or another, but for me if I start basing all of my decisions on one, I am probably going in a bad directio…

I would really get to the bottom of why he doesn't want kids, instead of just divorcing him. That feels dramatic and ignores all the realities (emotional and practical) of being in a relationship. Is it still money? Childhood issues? Loss of freedom? Feeling too suburban (wife, kids, white picket fence...) Afraid of being a bad dad? Help him get to the why, and determine if it's something he's willing to work through. Is he open to fostering or adoption, maybe older kids? Are you? I get the pain…

I'll be honest I find it hard to watch any 'big' vloggers when it comes to practical life advice. I feel the sort of traits that help one succeed in entertainment are very different than the kind of person I would like to be personally.

I feel like that's a really bad way to go about setting totally normal and realistic goals. I'm all for having a Plan B and other skills and abilities outside of your main focus, whatever it is, but not completely rerouting your life because of absurd "What-ifs." My fiance is studying programming (also a normal and realistic path in life) and I would never discourage him from doing so because his fingers might all fall off leaving him unable to type.

Hey sounds like my mom in most ways. Definitely a good example for what not to do.

I work part time until I have a reason to stay home (kids). Fiance is the breadwinner. We do not have a lot of money but we live simply. Anyone can do this if they can afford to, and I wish we would stop bashing it. Its great to live within our means and make time for family. Mens rights, feminism whatever is just tearing people apart and putting down community and family and promoting materialism i feel

Yeah that's a good point. Sometimes I do catch myself thinking that way. Also though I have a really hard time picking up on social cues, not just with fiancé but everyone. So in the past it led to lots of talks ("Are you happy? Am I do things right? What would make you happy? Do I make you feel loved enough? ") and of course these talks bugged him. It's less of seeking validation (although it certainly sounds that way, and felt that way to him) and actually not knowing.. Is he content with the …
