No shame. It’s a crazy if entertaining story. I need to write this up some day.

“Happy wife, happy life”. You take that to mean that if you make her happy, she will then make you happy. Both of my exes took it to mean entitlement that I should just do everything for them and they should give nothing back emotionally or otherwise. “His money is my money, and my money is my money.” #2 took this one a little too, literally, and ended up stealing from me. I’m not talking about the divorce settlement which was legalized theft. I mean actually falsifying household expenses so I w…

I have blocked everybody and I am staying out of this. It’s just fun to watch from the bleachers.

Yeah, the entitlement is pretty strong. I’ve stopped dating American women. My ex-wife claimed to me and I really didn’t check her math more fool me, that if she went back to her $250,000 a year job, after taxes, it would just pay for the childcare so she should just stay at home. Meaning, I had to support everything. And then after 16 hour day, she would hand me a cranky tired screaming child and tell me that she was done. But certainly once the kids were in bed she wouldn’t cuddle on the couch…

Huh? As far as I am aware, my ex wasn’t cheating. She just stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from me. She’s 50 and we were married for 3.5 years.

She does have a sister but sister is happily married with kids, unfortunately.

Well, it was a host of things which add up in pieces. For example, both when she first started dating the guy, and when she got married to him, mutual friends pointed out to her that he had an active online dating profile with new pictures. She dismissed it. Now this mistress emerges and says that the husband first told her he had an open marriage. And when she contacts my ex, my ex claims to be shocked and says she has no idea. Theory, this is part of her strategy to set up the divorce so she c…

So I traded up post divorce - now dating a former Miss Universe contestant who has her own business - and she traded down. The mistress is like the trade-down from the ex so… about a 4. And I’m with a 9/10. #winning

My first divorce took 6 months filing to nisi, and cost a total of $25,000 in legal fees. My second divorce took 3 years and $300,000 for a 3.5 year marriage. Late in the divorce process I uncovered a witness who said that ex #2 announced a month after meeting me that she ‘took’ her first husband for $1.3m and she could get more out of me (news flash, I wasn’t wealthy and she spent 3 years looking for money that didn’t exist). YMMV

There are a lot of maneuvers you can make which are emotionally satisfying but have no significant impact on your outcome, and which ultimately can just drag out the process. Dragging out the process means lawyers who bill by the hour make more money. A good lawyer will seek a speedy resolution that gets you what you can reasonably expect. My first lawyer indulged a lot of emotional wild goose cases and misrepresented my settlement proposal which resulted in a very long legal battle because it t…

Be careful now that she’s gotten into the clutches of her group of friends. I made my wife an overly generous but definitely fair offer when we first started the process. Then she got a clutch of divorced friends and began collecting tactics. What should’ve cost us $25,000 total and been done in a month ended up taking over two years and more than $300,000 in legal fees. She ended up getting a third less than my original offer. But it was hell to go through. Get a good solicitor and listen to wh…

I know this comment was from a while ago but I don’t check this account very often. She was trying to drag the divorce out in the hopes that I would have some kind of work event that would generate money. So she created a lot of confusion in court by manufacturing claims of companies that didn’t exist in countries that I don’t do business in. That had the effect of delaying trial by nine months until we ended up settling. Edit: here’s an example of her games. She walked into the marriage with $1…

Definitely keep working with your lawyer. During the divorce process my now ex-wife admitted on tape that the reason she was putting me through torture was to punish me for not giving her a child, even though we spent years going through multiple failed cycles of fertility treatments. Once we no longer were talking to each other and only communicated through lawyers, she began telling mutual friends and business colleagues that I was physically abusive, threatened her life, tried to strangle her…

There’s a difference between listening to legal advice, which you should get so you understand your rights, and allowing your STBX’s lawyer to dictate what will be fair to you. Get your own independent advice as to the range that you are entitled to. Lawyers make money from acrimony. I offered my ex-wife 50% of all assets plus 100% of the house plus alimony for a short term marriage with no children. Her lawyer induced her to reject the offer and go scorched earth. My first lawyer gleefully thre…

You really do need to talk to a lawyer specializing in Oregon family law. Shop around. Here is some guidance below. Unlike many states that have a calculator, Oregon spousal support is more driven by the discretion of the judge. They will take the length of marriage in the account so the longer you wait, the more expensive it will get. I put an important link at the end. Most courts will look at earnings potential, not just what you’re making now. So if your wife can show that for the last five …

Sorry to hear that and I understand how painful that second divorce is. My lawyer said it’s even more painful than the first one in some ways. Take care of yourself, get therapy, make sure you exercise, eat even if you don’t feel like it. You can eat healthier, even. If you can afford it, try and take a vacation and go somewhere warm where they will pamper you. In the middle of my worst part of the divorce, I couldn’t take a full week but I got three days at a spa and they gave me massages twice…

I have learned that there is an innocent spouse provision. According to the tax attorney I consulted, it only comes in to play once tax collection has been triggered. But you should be aware of this in case you and your STBX wife get the call. https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc205 But please note the time limits. The IRS first has to try to collect tax from you that was not paid/reported. You then have two years to file.

Again, not sure how Texas works and I’m no lawyer, but you may be at risk around alimony. You need competent and aggressive legal representation. Normally I would say this is a waste of $ and you should mediate / settle, but she is according to your post taking aggressive positions and you need to defend against them, Edit; for example, what if she squats? Are you liable? What is the law around that?

Your lawyer needs to be firmer. Under no circumstances will you hand over your passport. Do not let the children leave the country. I’ve been through numerous delays and stall tactics around mediation in my own divorce. Her former lawyer revealed that this was a deliberate strategy. The hope is that you will become worth more money that she can also go after. IANAL, but it looks like you may be at risk of this in Texas. https://texaslawhelp.org/article/dividing-your-property-debt-divorce Talk to…

Gaslighting is a dangerous thing. It wasn’t until 6 months after I filed for my divorce that I uncovered financial records showing that for 5 years, she had been lying to me about money while succeeding in making me feel bad about it.

Yes I’ve got her 15 page memo. Every line of it is untruthful. But it’s different than the last memo of rage-vomit. I think she hopes to confuse the judge.

Mine defrauded me out of about $200,000. She claimed in writing several times that I stole from her, and that’s why we were getting a divorce. Then when the forensic accounting revealed that she stole from me, she suddenly changed her story and announced that we were getting a divorce because I was selfish and did not give her children, ignoring the six rounds of IVF that I actively participated in. That one I have on tape. Then she said that I was abusive with vague accusations. Then she said t…

Thus far she’s just been burning through cash she got from her first husband and cash she already stole from me. It’s when that is depleted that I will get worried.

Not if it’s contested. I filed April 2018 and might not have a court date until spring 2020 - then have to wait for judgement.
