Great list. I too didn't learn those lessons in kindness and etiquette. Re: perfume--I am semi-allergic to synthetic scents. As in, there are very few brands I can wear. The older ladies and their heavy cologne have always made me nauseous. I wear an essential oil blend sometimes, and I've found luck with the Pacifica and Maroma brands, which are semi-natural. And I like C. Booth lotion, fyi. Thanks for your input!

Not exactly. He usually picks leftovers and reheats them himself. I make new meals about three times a week. Perhaps it's not knowing which day to expect a new meal. I will admit that we usually fended for ourselves earlier in our relationship, and I'm likely reaping the consequences. :(

I think that the benefits would be: We eat better things. We pay attention to our food and to each other more. A set time that we can talk about things practical or otherwise. A time to pray together. A stronger focus on the tradition of meals whenever we have birthdays and get-togethers. (I want to be better at planning traditions or forming a closer family bond through these meaningful times of the year. Life's too short not to.) An excuse to decorate for the season. An anchor for the day to a…

Hmm, sounds a little like he doesn't want to think about parenthood for some reason. It could be fear....fear of supporting kids, but most often with men, fear of losing the freedom he has going right now. Tricky situation, as he may be committed to you personally as his mate, knows you want them and he wants them, and yet doesn't want to start lamenting the loss of his glory days. But, and I mean but--that hinges on a) his commitment to you, which is where commitment really thrives, so he doesn…

Congratulations!!!! Wow that's so neat. I find your insight helpful about the Dad stuff. Also, I am parched for some real-woman feedback on natural/somewhat natural childbirth insights. So, I could sit down and ask you so many questions. But I will ask one: how did you manage mentally/stay positive to press through labor? Did you have naysayers? Anyway, thanks for your post!! And congrats again!

Tim Ferriss in 4 Hour Body talks about the slow carb diet being the cheapest healthy diet. It's basically sorta paleo--meat, vegetables, beans. No fruit, alcohol, and I can't remember if dairy is included. I think he's right. It's cheap to use as much rice and beans/lentils in your menu to save. Also, I have a higher grocery budget for health concerns...basically I prioritize it because my diet and health promote better physique, complexion, mood, sleep, and less health bills. My teeth are aweso…

I have found it easy to clean the shower because I put a big binder clip with a sponge hanging off a shower curtain ring hook. And now keeping it clean is kind of a habit. I started spraying it down with a water/vinegar/soap mixture that has eucalyptus essential oil in it. Works to kill mold growth. I too use microfiber towels, the ones you find in the automotive section are my favorite, and I use one to wipe down the sink and counter in the kitchen. I LOVE putting sheets of paper in plastic she…

Audrey Hepburn--her smile and happiness in her photos, even in her older years, makes me smile and warms up most photos. I love her dresses, her French, dancer look. I also pull inspiration from Natalie Wood. Also feminine, pretty warm smile, and seems like she liked being in her own skin. And modern type style--Betty Draper.

Agree. If it's just five pounds, or even a bit more, keto, a vitamin D supplement, and a probiotic for your mood (they help, look into it), you can totally go this route and get rid of the weight and the crummy mood. Been there, speaking from experience. Good luck!

There's so much time and allowance to not only improve yourself but also take such a great care of your SO when you are a homemaker. The word itself says it all, you're not making and maintaining just a physical home, it's an emotional, warm refuge for all the loved ones in your life. There's also less stress between both parties and your relationship can benefit so much from it. I agree. I see that I am physically healthier--better diet, actual sleep, less sickness. And for me and our family (w…

I know that insecurity can be a downward spiral into anxiety. On an internal health note, I know there is a such thing as a gut-brain-skin axis--basically people who struggle with mood issues often struggle with skin issues, which also extends to intestinal issues. And intestinal issues breed acne for a lot of people. I discovered Stefani Ruper's site --PaleoForWomen, Acne.org, and seeing how I had many things in each of the three categories above. As for my experience, the acne had to be worked…

So touching. It's so cool to see how a man and woman can love each other and can create a home, a life, a family together and all those things multiply or expand to more than what just two people on their own could accomplish. I really relate to these words, as my husband and I say this about ourselves: "Besides, we've been together for so long, what's the point in breaking up now? Where would we go? What would we do? We so need each other now."

(Apologize in advance for quote formatting on app) "Your original question was about your husband feeling that he can't give you answers you won't like. I would say to immediately start being very mindful of how you do respond when he tells you "no". Don't show your disappointment, don't complain, just smile and accept it. More importantly, don't ask him questions if you're not going to respond well to the answer. Just don't ask him for extra grocery money if you don't think you can respond neut…

I agree, as currently I'm not making it to the bedroom or master bathroom to regularly clean each week. I have yet just succeeded in deep-cleaning the kitchen and sometimes the entrance and living room on those particular weeks. I will try out what you said! So I'm just as interested in seeing what you guys think of apartments, especially with kiddos, and if the one-room-per-week is working! :).

Oh I totally understand! It was always making me feel guilty because all those things piled up and up and up! I wish you the best! Go get em! :)

Yes you are describing how I feel as well. I sometimes think that getting the sink clean or the bed made are really exercises in giving me small wins that snowball into feeling good about life, even when I feel down and out. Thanks.

I am also wanting to not use my health as an excuse to fall behind, and so I am wanting to be careful about thinking about it too much. My husband is still worthy of my immense gratitude and really quite honestly whatever energy I have, I can devote to him right now. You guys are amazing, by the way. Don't want to take you for granted or take advantage of your advice. Thank you truly.

Many men want to be bolstered up. When they complain, they might be fishing for your gratitude. Yes, I thoroughly agree. I'll try this.

In his eyes, you have 'the life' Yes, you are right. He would love to work from home. do you show your gratitude sincerely, consistently, and in many different ways? I appreciate this advice because there are (of course) ways I can amplify this. And for the other advice, yes, I think he wants some sympathy. And I always feel strange and like a phony when I say thank you to him because I worry that he resents me for having the life he'd like. I mean, he grew up very much valuing the aspects of ho…

I used to volunteer at a museum, [...] Do you think that he might feel less envious if I am away from home as well? I have thought about volunteering, as there are several places that are in need of help. Thank you!

Yes, I hear you. I have low square footage in my home and no kids as well. I don't know why it works for me, probably knowing that all these other people around the world are doing it a little at a time, or not having to do anything but what I deem important.

I relate as I have symptoms of exhaustion too. And I did not grow up with a routine, either. I found that FlyLady's system slowly grew on me, more and more. I just deleted the emails, every day, but they were annoyingly effective. What I think is effective about her is basically that she holds your hand with what to do each day BUT is pretty encouraging ("You're never behind. Start where you are!" is something she always says.) And she is kind of Red Pill. She doesn't let people complain or get …

I agree that I have been doing a covert contract with his emotions. I am used to a couple female friends being awesome in enthusiasm. And perhaps this whole contract and my worries are also rooted not just in his reactions but in my own anxieties about pregnancy and parenthood. Especially in light of RPW. I am maybe a tiny bit worried that I can't do all the self care, care of my husband, care for my health, and care for a baby. Will my husband be reluctant for the rest of our lives to enjoy his…
