I think he is correct but I am not sure how much that will do. It's painfully obvious that men's issues are ignored by those on the "left" and while avenues in the center and right will discuss them, there is not much to move the conversation forward (I am going to put aside whether those are all "right wing" figures. Shapiro, certainly). I used to spend a lot of time in redpill subs. This was a part of my life where I really struggled with women (I mean, I still do, but I am more I guess aware …

Yeah I think when i wrote that I was thinking lipstick, but thought maybe that was the girls who played at being lesbian. lol The gay men I have known has been through rugby and while there are some bear types, there are others who are definitely tough guys, but I don't know if I would call them bears per se. It's interesting, I have definitely come across gay men who tried to be ultra masculine in some ways, even to the point where I, a guy, felt it a bit off putting. These conversations really…

I think gender norms are interesting insofar as the idea of influencing men to be more feminine is valorized but there is a limit. Feminist types often say they want men to be more open with their feelings, but not TOO open and don't have your spouse do "emotional labor" etc. Also, you should still be making more money in the relationship because women don't want to date a deadbeat loser. It's interesting to me how, you state "When I identified as a butch lesbian, my masculinity was respected. N…

I'm grateful for my mom who is an amazing woman who did so much for her community. Sadly she suffers from Alzheimer's which is a debilitating disease, but she has most of her family around her. On a lighter note, I did write "Happy International Women's Day" on the board in my classroom and announced that "In honor of women, I am going to play metal female songs." That class doesn't mind that I play metal sometimes so it was all good.

"I've come across countless posts from men who are kind, compassionate, and genuinely good people that struggle with dating AND friends. Meanwhile I see guys in person that are truly deplorable with large friend groups and relationships. (Seriously go look at my post history in fox brain about my former conservative coworker) How is it that some of the most racist, sexist, misogynistic people I've ever seen have large friend groups, girlfriends, wives, children, and community? Meanwhile some of …

I agree with your second point. But i still fail to see how treatment of trans people and men are connected. It doesn't seem like the trans community gives two fucks about men. Unless there is something you are privy to that I am not.

Sure, you can. These aren't mutually exclusive things. I don't see the argument as to why male or female only clubs are a bad thing (Is that what is being argued?) I mean more private organizations, I don't see the issue, men need a place where they can be away from women and vice versa.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates03/03/23 04:57 AM

I listened to a podcast about that and from what I understood, no one questioned the transwoman the first few years, then one year they did. To the point where a group formed up to support the transwoman, but then turned on the transwoman because she wasn't as extreme as the others. But I guess I don't see the connection between excluding transwomen and excluding men. It doesn't seem like the Transcommunity gives fuckall about men.

I think it's wrong that people did not call her out for that. They're not going to anyways, Greta is a darling of certain section of the liberal elites. Unless she went full Kanye. Tate is a terrible example of a man, and so, this does normalize saying such things to any man, because he is such a terrible example. He's the perfect model for the strawman on what is wrong with men.

There's this thought process where people want equality, but only the positive aspects of it. Equal salaries and equal respect yay, but when it comes to arguments raising your voice to a woman is "pAtRiArChY" or something or another. People come to women's defense regardless of whether they are right or wrong, and this shows

I can probably think of some better examples but one is that I can shave my head and not only is this accepted, it's considered kind of cool. I mostly did it due to a receding hairline and never looked back (also save a ton on haircuts every year)

It's because certain people are not interesting in having "real conversations." They are more interested in adopting a singular narrative. I was listening to a podcast today "FAIR Perspectives" where they had this professor on, his name escapes me at the moment, but he wrote a book called "Do Not Be A Feminist." He highlights that, if he writes about any other issue, no one at the University cares. But when he wrote about this topic, suddenly people were warning and cautioning him to step back. …

At times, the sub would be something great like "Check out this car I just bought" or "I'm enjoying a nice expresso in a Paris Cafe." Other times it would be "Women are terrible deranged human beings etc..." If someone is like "Hey I am just going to take care of myself" that is fine, admirable even. but I think the issue with that sub is it harbored people who were severely anti-woman. still better than r/menslib

I personally believe that masculinity is whatever a man says it is. Meaning that as long as the man is confident enough, that it is enough for him. Now, it is easy to say "well, just ignore those people who say this and that" to those who are struggling out there. There are certain beliefs about what is and isn't masculine and I think when it comes to what one eats or how one looks, it is more a matter of what people have been led to believe. Whereas, in my view, if a man believes say that it is…

The point is, when you look at this, it really has nothing to do with gender norms. Feminists try to present this as men being overly masculine and needing to come to terms with their feminine side. When really the problem is exactly opposite of this. Men don't know how to be men anymore. Because the world is made to cater exclusively to women. I feel this more and more. Like when feminists will say "well, there is no female president" and then I am like "Yeah, but there are no traditional jobs …

Men struggle because they don't take advantage of their privilege. Or, the Patriarchy hurts men too. But really, men have so much privilege and literally ANY man can succeed and if they don't, well, that's simply because they must be incompetent. If a woman had that privilege... Yeah it's ridiculous.

I believe the word they are looking for is RAPE. What annoys me, besides the very light sentence and scant news coverage of this is all the yokels who chime in with "where was she when I was in school?" I always find this reaction creepy af. You have to get the feminist wiring out of your head. When you are with a woman, you will know when the moment is right. I can't describe it. But think of any movie where the protaganist and his love interest are about to kiss....that is the moment.

Hmmm I am not sure I agree with that. Or at least, I am not sure if criticizing men was a common theme in popular culture prior to movements in the 60s. I imagine most media would be centered on the traditional home. My response is less that "critiquing men is good ackshually" and more that I understand the argument people pose when they state that people from certain communities could not always openly express their views.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates08/07/22 02:41 PM

At the time it was something people joked about. 1993, I was 15 so my views on anything related to men or women were still in development. I probably laughed about it to be honest. People balance these things with "well, he was an abuser" and it's hard to fault people for that reasoning. I see this is unrelated to male circumcision though. I think on that latter front, it is more the religious minded people that are going to be more resistance.

Definitely. Just go for it. You will KNOW when the moment is right and you will know when it is not. IME, women will turn from you if it isn't right. The advice given to men ie "asking consent for a kiss" is ridiculous and most women do not abide by that.

The more random people can be, the more toxicity you will see. Communities like the one we inhabit provide an avenue where there can be robust discussion on an issue. Whereas something like Twitter or Tik Tok well, it depends on what the framing environment is. If it's more based on "Ugh men" well, this is what you will see. As for the why, well, some might say "Hey, for so long women could not critique men so this is just them having their chance to do so." The idea that ya know for women to cr…

Did you...not read the book series it is based on? Strong women are prevalent throughout the series. It's a fictional retelling of birth of England, from the perspective of a pagan Saxon who fights for the Christian King of England. Called collectively "The Saxon Tales" by Bernard Cornwell. Now, yes it is annoying that they only cast women that weight 110lbs soaking wet for these roles. I wish they would cast beefier women, like bodybuilders and powerlifters, at least that would make more sense.…

I self id as "center left." People who are true left, ie, people who advocate for socialist ideas, you don't really see too much anti-male stuff. I'm no Marxist, but for them it's more about class, as in, everyone together. The anti-male stuff you see, which people on the right call "leftism" is actually neoliberalism. There is nothing left wing about it. It gets confusing because people will say they are left wing, but they are using a bastardized version of it. IME, those who identify as "Marx…

This woman reacted exactly as I would expect her to. The lies and abuse that Amber gave are immaterial to them, since, in the long run, men have been evil to women and it can never balance out. Is this a normal take? Not at all. It's normal for people of this kind of ideology who catastrophize each time they do not get their way. I don't like to associate it with "the left" since there are many on the left who either accept the judgment or do not have much of an opinion. In my mind, if feminism …

Privilege is less about one group and more like a layered thing that affects many different groups of people; white, black, male, female, etc. There are certain areas where the advantage has historically been given to white males. However, there are areas where people of different races and/or genders are favored. Life is harder for some than it is for others, for a vast variety of reasons.

Yeah, this seems rather...virtue signalling like. Or rather he's trying to take the air out of it for some reason. I don't know how this benefits anyone. The best response is "good for him to finally be able to express who he is." There is a lot of second guessing with these things. I definitely agree with the sentiments you provide. Messaging from the left and the right proves confusing for most men. Open up, but also man up. Be vulnerable, but protect women (I am reminded of a group I am in saying men should speak up for women). Other examples include 'virgin-shaming' or inadequacy in the eyes of women, double standards around body shaming, and behavioural expectations that are generally much narrower for men in progressive spaces. This part specifically I found interesti…

I was thinking of the term fragility when I read this post and, while I knew what the term meant, went ahead and searched it up anyways: "the quality of being easily broken or damaged" So, if someone is fragile, it means that they can be easily broken or easily damaged. We might think of the phrase "having a thin skin" to apply here as well. Another definition is: "the quality of being delicate or vulnerable." Men are told more and more to be vulnerable, to be willing to open up about their feel…

I think socialized is an excellent word to use here, not just for this topic, but for many topics that affect both men and women. It's important here since I think this is a topic that is rarely talked about anywhere, but I feel that it is something members of this sub will likely agree is an issue that should be addressed. T…

IDk, I got away from Men's Rights because they just started to veer off into this direction of "random person on twitter has anti-men opinion" territory. Demonizing perceived enemies is the oldest trick in the book. "Well, they aren't REAL left wing people, they are ACKTUALLY right wing!" Like, the variables can change depending on what portion of the spectrum one is on. One may assume for example that being left wing means one must be feminist, since feminism often exists on the left wing spect…

Women have a "soft power" that is often interpreted as weakness but is actually very effective for them to get what they want. I think of Cersei from Game of Thrones, the sort of cunning, calculated kind of individual, who is able to coerce those under her to achieve her goals. It's also kind of evident in situations where a woman who feels she is under threat can call out for help, knowing that most likely, a man will come to her aid and not question why she is under threat, but is willing to a…

I think it's more of a feminized patriarchy. Like, men still hold the top positions in companies and government, overwhelmingly. But, access for women has been broadened, to the point where there are fewer and fewer barriers for women to achieve those positions. Hence, women governors, representatives, judges, cops, CEOS, etc. Society struggles to catch up with these changes though. While women have more agency than they used to, it's still perfectly understandable for a woman to get married, qu…

Women have more options than men, simply because they can choose to work or not work, and most of society will simply accept this without question. The same is not true for men; while there are relationships where the man stays home, society will view that man as being "less than" or "not a real man." Which is silly, in my mind. Yes, women should have maternal leave but men should have paternal leave as well.

Be the change you wish to see in the world. A common phrase that is often tossed about, but if you apply it to your life, it could make a big different. The internet is what it is: people on different sides just taking shots at each other. But you can use whatever position you have in society to help men/boys that you think need help. For instance, I am a teacher, so my role is very clear and apparent. Obviously I have to help all students (and care for them all), but I always pay special attent…

This is bizarre to me, since I live in New York City, and I've just been using a simple "excuse me" when passing, since it's...the polite thing to do. I guess I don't understand this post. Wouldn't that just be the natural thing to do? I don't view it in a "I'm a man and must announce my presence to women because men are evil" kind of thing but more so, that I have places to be and most people walk at a certain pace that is comfortable for them.

I used a different argument, as the group is pretty liberal and using the bigotry angle wouldn't fly (I also think that word gets tossed around too often). Ok, sure I agree with that sentiment. But you could make a choice not to engage with that person on twitter. It's like similar to the white fragility argument. BLM/SJW crowds basically want to be able to call white people racist and not have white people get mad at them. When white people get angry about being called racist, the term "white fragility" is applied in an attempt to shut the conversation down. Essentially, calling a man fragile is a means to shut the conversation down, because most men will get angry at being called fragile. I've never watched this guy before. I know he exists but I guess I felt like I already had enough left leaning people on my YT feed that adding another would be overkill. But to be honest, I like his presentation style, so maybe I will follow along on some of his points. When his gf came in and talked about the "Survivor March" and their treatment of men who were raped, I think that is probably the big thing that stuck out for me. Now is that a reflection of Feminism as a whole? Maybe. Maybe not…

I'd say that there is a lot you can control. Going to college, you take risks when you go out. When you go to a party, decide to drink, etc, that is going to put you into situations that you will have to handle. At least to your 3rd point, if you are always aware of the situation, there is less likely you can put yourself into a situation to get accused. Considering that colleges seem to ignore due process when it comes to men and all. Are you posting this because you are planning to go to colle…

It's a very good thread and I am glad as a member there, that it's usually a very good sub for discussing male issues. My issue is not that I don't want to open up, but I have no one to open up too. My best friend, who I could open up to, lives 4 hours north of me. Which during normal times, wouldn't be an issue, but due to the pandemic, it's weighing on me heavily, exacerbated by the fact that I can't leave because I live in NYC and may be a carrier. So I feel trapped most of the time, and sure…

It would be good if people shared about their dads, or their own experience raising kids as a dad. My dad is 90 years old. Served in Korea, along with my mom, raised myself and my five brothers. Things weren't always easy, but he kept at it, even when I or my brothers were being annoying. I appreciate both of them everyday, but especially for today, I appreciate my father.

Similar to Men's Rights, but not as angry. Similar to MensLib, but not as "feminism is the superior ideology" belief. People crosspost from both. Which is good, I think the thing with Menslib is they will have interesting articles sometimes, but they have such a narrow frame of what is acceptable to say, that they only cater to those who are only deep into the feminist narrative. I don't really go to Men's Rights anymore, because a lot of it is just Rage Porn. Like..."THIS WOMAN DID THIS THING A…

Threads like this are good. But on Facebook, I have to pause...when I read something. Then I think "is this worth replying to? Is it someone I know? Someone I don't? Do I really want to go down this rabbit hole?" A lot of us REACT without taking time to stop, think about it, reflect, then consider whether to reply or not. I was probably more feminist in my teen and early 20s than I am now (definitely, I am not a feminist now). I doubt I would call myself one back then though. Meanwhile, the corporate left faction benefits from this because firstly, they feel good about themselves, and secondly, the left is now entirely focused on identity politics rather than actually supporting a working-class labour movement. I remember reading Bret Easton Ellis’ book, how actors have their own brand and they are constantly on edge to please people in order to get the role. Probably why a lot of lefty rhetoric comes out of Hollywood.

Ok, yeah. But what about actors? These fit, attractive men who wear "the future is female" shirts and support feminist causes. Are they just virtue signalling because they think that is what they are supposed to do, or they do fall into one of these two categories?

I appreciate the sentiment. Part of being alone a lot of the time is, on the one hand, there's no one to talk to, which can either be a good or a bad thing. On the other, at least it's just me and I am not putting anyone else at risk. It has made me realize more and more that I am lucky to have the kind of family I do have.

I think it's more men, just express emotions differently. I can't even cry if I wanted to (unless it's a sad movie or something). But when I get angry, I have to hold it in, then let it out later, when no one is around. But also, I feel like, were I to cry in public, I would be putting a burden on someone else. Because I do think people would check in and say "hey you alright?" Most people are generally nice. But I guess I feel that for me personally, my showing of emotion in that manner, would …

I think, personally...because feminism is so firmly entrenched on the "left," it is somehow assumed that anything to do with "men's rights" must occupy the right. It's like the idea that anything for men must be opposed to anything for women. This is odd, because often if you follow feminists and/or see feminist literature, they will often talk about the need for men to be good fathers, which, is something that is important to MRA's as well. You do see a lot of feminists making the claim that fa…

I didn't even think of that, but it's a good point. I got literally zero sleep last night, so this might not be a good conversation to jump in, but I will anyways. The idea of privilege is easily defined and yet, not always easily applied. The standard example one sees is that the idea that a white man is treated differently from a black man in most societal situations. We are seeing that now in terms of how police interact with white men versus black men. Which, I would tend to agree with, overall. Of course there are outliers sure, but there ar…

Those are some glaring numbers. I know my father worked several part time jobs and didn't find a full time position until he was 35. But you see this with a lot of issues. Like, if you talk to someone who is pro-life and say you are pro-choice, they might say you are pro-abortion. Which, doesn't have to be the case. With online discussion, the main thrust of it is, you don't really know who you are talking to. They don't know you either. So, there's a lot of information missing that might inform the discussion.

They buy into this idea that everything that is negative that men do is associated with this idea of "toxic masculinity" which is informed by their concept of "patriarchy." So, essentially, from the get go, they are creating this narrative of "I am right and if you disagree with me you must hate women/are an incel, etc." The idea of being an "ally" which isn't just feminism, but you see it BLM type stuff too, it just basically "You will listen and do what I say and agree. Some schools do have trades. I've been saying this for ages, of course, the trades would be available to everyone. Won't likely happen though, too many people make too much money with things the way they currently are, namely colleges, textbooks companies etc. It's not very trendy to encourage the future youths to be plumbers and electricians, even though those are necessary jobs that will never not be needed.

How can you an opinion on a book you haven't read? Why not just read the book, then form an opinion on it. This is why I read feminist literature. I need to know what they are thinking and then come to my own conclusions. I can't just rely on what other people are saying about it. Sure, it's nice, but what if what people are saying is biased (which it most surely is). I thought the Power was a very intelligent book. I thought Handmaid's Tale was ok, but not as good. Though Handmaid's Tale was wr…

Self deprecation is my main thing! Which is funny sometimes but also sad. I think many men are self conscious about their penis. It’s just a part of your body but it’s so sexualized to the point where, if it weren’t sexualized so much, guts would have far fewer problems.

Yeah. Contra’s stuff is good on men’s issues compared to other breadtubers. But only because she addresses it without attacking men as a whole. No, we don’t need more support for men to cry. Ah yeah, I read this back in January when it was first published. I'm working through "The Diversity Delusion" by Heather MacDonald at the moment. She hits at this, from the perspective more of women who have sex with guys because it's expected, and/or because they don't want to explain why they don't want to have sex. This ties into accusations of rape, because, the girl has sex with the guy, enjoys it. Then a few weeks later feels angry because it didn't develop into a relationship, so the gir…

It's one of those things we associated with marriage, traditionally. The ol "ball and chain" methodology. My mother would often go up to the just married bride of my brothers and joke how it was the wife's duty to "train him." I never thought much of it then, but while I don't believe my mom was being serious, it would look radically different if the father of the bride said the same thing to one of my brothers. Marriage and relationships have all of these things. The old thing where the man doe…

Think...when Bernie Sanders went on Joe Rogan. Then Rogan said he would consider voting for Bernie, and Bernie promoted instead of dismissing this. I think that is what they mean when he talks about "imperfect allies." Like, agree with mostly everything, but if said candidate steps out of line OR (even worse), associates with people who are out of step, then they are no better than the "enemy" (which would be Trump/Republicans, actual White Nationalists, etc.)

See, I thought "The Power" was interesting, because from some feminists you get this thing where it's like "the world would be so much better and more peaceful if women ran the world." Yet, in "The Power," it was no better than how it was before....(actually it was a lot worse). Also, some men had a weaker version of the ability. As to the whole "men shouldn't hit women." I see that as being based on this traditionalist mindset regarding how men and women should behave. Men are seen traditionall…

Some candidates seem to think they can say whatever they want, and if they don’t win, it’s because voters are “racist” or “sexists” or whatever. In movies and film, the vast majority of leading men represent the ideal version of how men should look, think, act. There are hardly any depictions of "normal" men. Even in films where it's just a man married to his wife, both of them are beautiful, athletic, intelligent. Almost zero flaws between them. That is the main draw for me. I don't hate feminism and even recognize maybe sometimes they have some valid points. I think many of the feminist based subs are so guarded against disagreement, they completely shut anyone who isn't all in out. So yeah, so far, so good.

Which is what it should be about. Unfortunately, too many subreddits are echo chambers that adhere to a specific narrative. Once you question a key feature of the narrative, the silencing begins. I am not alone, among those who though menslib was a community that was about supporting men, only to find that it was just a "men should be feminists too" community. I'm actually finding some other communities I am a part of to be that way. For the same reasons I don't go to r/mensrights anymore becaus…

I got the same sense from "Feminism is for Everybody" (thank god for Libby). I came away with the sense that bell was trying to write a book to maybe engage males in a way that doesn't say (We hate men) but more so say (well, there's some men we don't hate). Not unlike Liz Plank's "For the Love of Men" a sort of "We're trying to be egalitarian here a little bit about men but it's really mostly about you changing everything for us" kind of book.

You shouldn't even need to justify that. The mere thought that someone's different opinion means they can label you a woman hater is as clear a sign that there is something wrong with their methodology.

This is real feminism. When feminists try to say "feminism cares about men too," it's good to know I have this to point to and say "nah. This is what feminism is about." It's also why many women who love men show absolute disgust when feminism is mentioned.

I cringe when I hear the word Patriarchy. I feel like when feminists use it, it's an opportunity for them to say "men are usually the one's who are shitty and yes, women can be shitty too, but it's not women's fault that they are shitty, it's men's fault."

High school. My point is more “does the person calling you a Nazi know their shit?” Some jagaloon on twitter usually is tossing this word around without thinking. People are often quick to take the Nazi track as it’s easy to use. More often not their intent is to shut down conversation as they aren’t interested in discussion. Source can be both the person as well as their arguments. It can be either or. I was referencing source as being one and the same with evidence.

As a history teacher, one thing I teach my students is to always "consider the source." Being that, when someone says something to you or tries to label you a certain way, consider who it is coming from. Does the person who labels you in that way have the proper credentials to make such a statement or are they talking out of their ass? The vast majority of people who throw around the word "Nazi" have no authority to do so. Unless the person I am conversing with is a Holocaust Researcher, then I …

Women were valued, could inherit property and conduct business. Few ancient civilizations allowed women such privileges. Also they didn’t practice female infanticide. There's no harm, in my opinion, in striving for equality. Over time, I've come around to the idea that seeking true gender parity across the board is not the goal. I think the goal is the removal of restrictions any individual might have based on preconceived societal perceptions on what is appropriate for one's sex. A few questions here because something about this always bugs me. When feminists talk about "unpaid labor of women" do they mean the work women do as far as taking care of the home? Looking at traditional relationships, ie single income, typically it was the man who went out, worked long hours, providing for the family and the wife's responsibility was taking care of the home. That’s the thing, I don’t know if gender is fluid or not. I seem to get different answers depending on where I go. I have no issue with gender exclusive clubs. Male only, female only. This article is ironic because normally, it’s women trying to occupy men’s spaces. I guess it’s like if you’re inclusive of everyone, then it literally means everyone. If it’s not inclusive, that’s fine, but don’t tase a racket when a woman can’t gain access to a men’s only club. No idea how the trans issue fits into this since the idea of gender seems to be a very fluid concept these days.

I think it's important to separate feminists who actually exist, versus feminists on Reddit. It's a fair statement and question to ask. I think of my dad helping to raise myself and my five brothers along with my mom. He did whatever he needed to do. Things weren't always great, and he sometimes had to help out at her business to do what needed to be done. Sure, my parents fought over the years, but they had each other's backs when things got rough. Maybe that isn't so much positive masculinity as much as it is love. I guess for me, I can say I never felt pressured to do anything in the name of being male, rather, whatever I or …

Thing is, we already have a word to describe all of this: "discrimination." There's literally no reason to invent new words or phrases when such words already exist. Normally one thinks of discrimination as discrimination against, ie "In custody battles, men are discriminated against" or "Prior to the passage of the 19th amendment, women were discriminated against from voting." But discrimination, the word, doesn't refer to anything positive or negative, specifically. It just means creating a fa…

It seems like the ratings got better this week. I saw the first ep for Batwoman, but there wasn't enough to interest me in watching more. Was just not very exciting, lacks a compelling story. Seems more like they want to push lesbian themes than focus on a hero.

Bias against men isn't an issue that is taken seriously, whether on Reddit or outside of it. Unless it happens to be a minority group, and even then it is mostly given lip service. I don't visit many of those subs, though I subscribe to Gender Crit for the sole purpose of watching women complain about seemingly innocuous things. Sometimes I am in the mood for that. I find that sub particularly interesting in that, among feminist groups, they are disliked the most.

Hard agree. Most people wearing a “future is female” shirt has no idea it comes from extreme radical feminism. You ask most people what feminism is, they will say “fighting for women’s rights.” Some May say equal rights. Not something you can really disagree with, but those who are deep into feminism are going to have more variance in their thought processes.

When I joined menslib I thought it would open me up to a different side of the men’s issues discussion. For the most part it did. However, as others have mentioned, the mods have a hard line philosophy and the fact that posts critical to feminism are deleted just means it’s an echo chamber. Usually the offender is banned and while I can understand if it’s a troll, banning people with different viewpoints stifles discussion and just results in entrenched tribalism. I have an issue with the whole article. Privilege isn't something a particular sex is contributing to. It's something that just exists, whether that particular sex is pushing it or not. The thesis of the article seems to be "female privilege exists, but that is men's fault. Be better men!"

This isn't an anti-feminism sub. It's a sub where, were one to critique feminism, they wouldn't be banned for doing so, nor have their opinions deleted/muted, as you'd find in other subs that deal with men's issues. As someone who does happen to have a lot of time on their hands, I will endeavor to check out some of your sources, if anything because you took the time to list them and I am always looking for different viewpoints that may broaden my outlook. Or at least add to it, somewhat.

You mean like this article I saw on twitter: https://www.gq.com/story/hannah-gadsby-why-men-should-be-more-ladylike Apparently GQ is going full on "redefining masculinity" by including the voices of people who aren't men. It's weird, but people can have their opinions, I guess. I currently have Plank's book on hold from the library. Personally, I'd prefer to read her work before critiquing it. It seems rather underhanded to attack people for personal reasons. On Reddit, it's harder to do, since most of us don't have pictures up. I don't care for the anti-union stance, but that's his opinion and it's his company, he's free to do what he wishes. There is a certain market for controversial outlets. Especially with the rise of Trump. Yet, I'm a bit concerned that virtually every time an athlete is accused of sexual assault, the media seems to adopt this premise that they are guilty immediately. I wonder if there is an element of racism there as well, since the vast majority of these athletes that accused tend to be poc.

Which is smart. As progressive as NYC is, and it is very progressive, there is a substantial number of conservative voters as well as center left voters who are not as keen as to go radical as this one official states. You don't hear them so much, because, well, to open one's mouth is to invite criticism, so they do most of their talking at the polls.

I love how this post implies that all gay men are creeps. Way to generalize an entire population. I’ve been to many gay bars in my life. Mostly accidental ie in a foreign country wanting to get a beer. Always people are nice and good for conversation.

I get what you mean. But what did you expect? Virtually every group gets smeared by groups that don’t like them. Liberal? Oh you mean communist. Republican? Oh those Fascists right? Gay? Oh you must enjoy turning kids gay. Trans? Just men pretending to be women. Pro life? You just want to control women. Pro choice? Killing babies is ok yeah? I could go on. Those are just some examples. For me I try not to let what some rando on Reddit says affect me. They want you to react negatively, they want …

Always cover your ass, metoo or not. I work in a high school so it’s a bit different. No 1 to 1 tutoring unless another adult is in the room, bigger group tutoring preferred. If a girl is wearing an inappropriate outfit I’ll ask a female adult if they could assist in addressing it. Personally I’m not much of an overt flirt anyways but if it feels like there’s interest and the feeling is mutual then sure.

I was banned for commenting in a sub they don’t like. I kind of knew that and knew they were fragile but didn’t think they were that fragile. While I wouldn’t call this sub a positive community, Menslib is far worse. They do not promote free discussion of the issues and instead abuse their powers to create a defined narrative. In essence what ends up happening is, it becomes an echo chamber. Everything is men’s fault and even when a woman is to blame, it’s not her fault; essentially men are the …

I was watching a thread in one of these super toxic feminist subs recently where one of these male feminist good boys was being excoriated for daring to have an opinion. What this told me is, you can say you’re an ally, say you support them but at the end of the day, to them, you’re no different than the guy doing life for serial rape. So you’re right, don’t put up with their shit, call them out. They won’t stop but maybe they will think twice before saying random toxic bullshit.

Yes, true, but my time as a teacher has taught me you can't rely on parents to do their job.
/r/MensRights08/09/19 08:36 PM

I think that's a fair response. Many men might not know how to process another person's problems. Maybe they grew up with a father who shut it all down or without a father at all and never had a male figure in their life. For me, both parents were always there for me, plus I had older brothers who tried to step in when the situation called for it. In that sense I am lucky, as I know many do not/did not have that benefit.

To me, it's like...if we are accepting that men have difficulty opening up, then it doesn't seem helpful to make fun of men who do open to certain people. Like, they should be congratulated for opening up, as in willing to share what they think. I get that it can be annoying, always being the person, but when you're in a relationship, I'd imagine that's part of it isn't it? That you're there for each other? That if I have a bad day, I can come home and be willing to share that with my partner an…

That's bullshit. Toxic Masculinity, the term, wasn't even invented by feminists. It was invented by guys in the men's liberation movement.
/r/MensRights08/09/19 02:18 PM

True but anytime you make a point that doesn't exactly conform to THEIR standards, it gets deleted and you face the possibility of being banned. I don't mean saying things that are obvious like "Women are sluts" but more innocuous things like "I don't think I agree with that because..." This sub is great because anyone can say what they want and the community decides what is valid and what is not.
/r/MensRights08/09/19 01:47 PM

That was a very heroic thing to do, but I don't understand how any of this has anything to do with toxic masculinity.

There's the guy, I'm assuming it's a guy, maybe it isn't, but they said something along the lines of "Believing in equality means you're a feminist." While I'm willing to allow that there are feminists who do follow along with this, I don't think it's valid to make such a statement when you consider ALL of the feminists. I have no issue with bringing in more diverse voices, in fact, if you made Siri/Alexa etc more customizable, I think that would be a bigger draw. (Personally, I've always felt l…

What kind of school is this? Is it public or private? Reason I ask, if it's private, parents can just organize and tell the school that if they insist with this policy they will pull their kids out. If it's public, well, if those are the rules, then those are the rules. And again, if you have a problem, just send your kid somewhere else.

I can't stand the mgtow crowd personally. I think it's more of "hey this is what I was thinking too" kind of thing as opposed to "I completely agree with these people 100%."

I always feel like I'm too much on the left for more of the right leaning subs and too much on the right for the more left leaning subs. This sub itself isn't perfect, but at least I know people are willing to have a conversation and not just ban you just because you don't completely agree that feminists are without fault, at all times. I could do without the "what if this were a man/woman" posts, but I can just scroll past those and find something that piques my interest.

Well, I respectfully disagree. I believe your attitude stifles the conversation by being confrontational. Which has never worked with anyone in any serious discussion of any of these issues. So in my opinion, I think you should consider reflecting on the effectiveness of such a statement. In other words, "Is what I am saying here, is this inviting someone to have a serious reflection possibly allowing them to open up and hear different ideas or is the statement I am making provoking them just so…

Ok, I can understand your response, but I did not get that feeling at all. I was expecting her to say that kind of "oh woe is women" malarkey, but she didn't, in my opinion. The sense I got was that there are certain privileges on both sides, and the groups which support either or gender, tend to maximize their positives and avoid negatives. Which fits well with my frame (of reference), considering I am moderate and both the left and right tends to piss me off lol.

Heck, there were plenty of men who wanted to get out of service and they were fucked for it, but those were governments run by men. Yeah. There are unreal standards of both sides of the spectrum. That said, as much as we want to say it doesn't matter, it does. It shouldn't matter at all. But it does, will continue to do so. There are other subs that are similar, but far more heavily censored, whereas this one is fairly open, as long as you aren't being a troll.

And according to that first article you linked, men need to prepare women to be willing to listen to men being emotional, ahead of time. Like what? I'm sad and depressed, but let me get everything under control first, so my lady can be ready for when I may want to express my feelings openly.

This is what I come to this sub for! I'm conflicted, because she did go through a lot, but she also was probably going to be worse than Cersei. Though, for the average resident of the kingdoms, nothing would change much. So I was covering a class (High School) and this one kid, black male put this out to some other students "Black people can be racist." This girl, who is also black, goes into the whole "Well, black people can be prejudice, but they can't be racist, because systematically they are the minority." The black male then says "Ok, say I own a restaurant, and some Latino people come in, and since I don't like Latino people, I refuse to serve them. Isn't that racist?" Well put and I think part of it might come from fantasy. The idea of bedding an older woman, i.e. a teacher, I think is fairly common for young males. I'm a teacher and I worked in a school in Harlem a few years ago. The principal was this late 20s, buxom, black woman. She was attractive, and the teenage boys were all wanting to get a piece of "that." That said, they're teenagers. I'm no psychologist, but I'd have to imagine a relationship like that, if and when it does happen, would be bound to…

She sounds like the kid who, when pressed to do some work, complains "hey, at least I showed up!" Like the bare minimum should be good enough. Stop being liberal. Or be liberal privately, but not openly. Lot of women say they want this and that in a man. But the vast majority of them, especially feminists, all go for the same guy.

It's a common trope to portray men as idiots and their wives as brilliant and reasonable. I hate it too, which is why I don't watch much tv anymore. I stopped watching Gotham once they started to make kid Bruce into some kind of weird hero.
/r/MensRights17/03/19 02:10 PM

I understand that point of view. However, I think making fun of feminists is kinda low brow and doesn't really do anything. Promoting services that help men in need, on the other hand, that is something that I think is worth pushing energy towards. Some random girl on twitter saying shit like "men are trash" etc. In the grand scheme of things, what they say or do isn't impacting anyone. Now, calling someone out for say, continuing to defend Amber Heard even though clearly all the evidence points…

They want to prevent people from trolling. So, if you post in a lot of subs that run counter to that sub's mission, it's likely, though not guaranteed, that you will troll. Menslib is pro feminist. They advertise it. This sub is not and could be called anti feminist.
/r/PussyPassDenied14/03/19 02:54 PM

r/menslib is pro feminist. So to them, this makes perfect sense, since it's the premier Whiteknighting community.

Part of the reason I like this sub is you wouldn't see the inverse of this being posted on r/feminism or r/menslib. Sure, most will likely disagree with the arguments the article is making, but I like that it's allowed here and people are allowed to make up their own minds. That said, hey, it's her opinion and she has a right to raise her boys how she sees fit. I can disagree with some things but at the end of the day, it's none of my business.

I see it more as we don't expect it. There was a video circulating the internet, I think it was a year or two ago. Women's 7's rugby game. This one girl breaks her nose, gets up and makes a tackle. I thought that was pretty bad ass. It's bad ass for anyone, but because you don't expect girls to do it, it makes it a bit more bad ass. That sad, depression in boys is a real issue and I am sure all these years of empowering young girls, while a good thing to be sure, is having a detrimental effect o…

This puts things more into perspective here. I myself do not like shit posts but, I do like that everything is allowed here. While I'm not always agreeing with everything posted here, it's better than the alternative, where you go to the r/feminism or r/menslib and just see TONS of DELETED or REMOVED BY MODERATOR. How does anyone get a chance to discuss and debate if comments are arbitrarily deleted? This is why some subs become echo chambers.

I had to look up what gaslighting meant. I'd heard it before, but hadn't really thought of it. Apparently it comes from an old play. But yeah, this frustrates me. People who talk about race do this too. I make a choice "Ok, I'm going to argue this or I am just going to ignore them."

This annoys me when they just assume that "all boys are this." I work with teenagers myself (I teach high school). High School boys are a mixed bag. I think the He-Man comment demonstrates that women typically have difficulty understand how difficult it is for men to put on that kind of muscle. yeah...though I don't think it works that way. Maybe some "grrl--powah" or something. For whatever reason, I think somewhere along the way of "empowering" women, they forgot to mention it isn't just academics and/or careers.

Also, everyone who shows up is just sad. I’ve been to a few in nyc. It’s awful. Personally I love intelligent women. The problem with successful women is that they usually want guys who are more successful than they are. I’m a teacher. I’m not doing bad but will not do as well as a lawyer/doctor. I’m good with it but they Aren’t. Suddenly feminism isn’t so appealing to them.

I agree with that. There shouldn't be anything that is "male only" or "female only." I think a case could have been made for women only fellowships at a time, but in this day and age, when women now seem to succeed more in education than men, there is no need for these type of things. If anything, as I work in education, one thing that boggles my mind is that there are not more opportunities for black boys. Who, statistically, are a group which has struggled tremendously, and yet, everyone knows…

I can see both sides. I don't know, I mean, if it was the only thing, then that would be one thing. But I imagine there would be multiple "fellowships" like this. But the law is the law, so there's that. Personally, I think in this day and age, the only groups that should get special treatment when it comes to higher education is the poor.

I feel like those responses just feed into the mindset that because the victim was male, he must have "wanted it." Which, maybe he did, maybe he didn't, but it is clear it had a negative effect on him, yet, because the way society is wired, it seems "ok" because he'll "get over it."

I mean, if you microanalyze it (like feminists often do), then I guess. It doesn't seem to me like she really disparaged the boy, rather, she wrote to uplift the girl. Besides, the girl won vice president, which is something Hillary couldn't do.

My brother's sister in law is Chinese and divorced (my brother married a Chinese girl, who is awesome!) several months ago I went home for my birthday and my brother was like "hey, you should hook up with the sister in law. They are communist politically, though even that that isn't wholly correct. I think, it is better to say they are totalitarian politically, as totalitarian can prop up any ideology it wants, at the end of the day, it's all the same (essentially, citizens have zero say in government). Economically, China is capitalist, though not as free market as the USA, they have been, gradually, since the 70s when Dien Chau Ping (sp?) took over. You can see it in the people. I think society has conditioned men to take on these more difficult jobs and conditions women to move towards less dangerous jobs. There are some women who do want to run towards danger so to speak, but traditionally that has been men's roles and I see it as just being that and nothing more.

I asked this question on the facebook page of an elected official (Democrat, I live in NY State) and the response I got was "it makes it so the victim has to provide evidence of the crime." My response was..."and?" I do agree that the idea of a college having a kangaroo court to determine guilt in sexual assault situations seems far above their paygrade. As far as I know nothing in this prevents an accuser from going to the police and filing charges.

It reminds me of when you go out after work with the boys. When the final bill comes, say it's $100 bucks, everyone chips in an equal amount and enough for a tip. But then say in that group there are some women, they will analyze that bill extensively and only put in what they got.

Did you get this from r/ChoosingBeggars? Because if not, it should definitely be cross posted there. I can't stand people begging for shit. That's bad enough, but throwing their kids in there. I mean, I'm sure there are some suckers out there who are like "oh well, okay." If we lived in a society where you could take people at their word, maybe it would be okay. But there are countless instances where kindness is taken advantage of.
