Tanner Guzy's factored breakdown from his The Appearance of Power: Body Archetype (his Rugged/Rakish/Refined) Tribe Taste Location Effort Honestly each of these deserves a pretty in-depth post, OR you can read his book or glean a lot of it from his + others' sites on men's style. What I like about Tanner's approach is that it avoids the suit-up reflex that a lot of online men's style revolves around. It tries to give you a way to express who you are in any context, e.g. if you are a Rugged farme…

OYS Lifts are in 1,000-lb club. Body fat is 14%. Married 12 years, four kids. A couple of times in the past month (once this past week), she's called me an Ubermensch. It doesn't seem friendly—it's some sort of shit test—but I suppose it could be worse. Last time I AMed it: "No way, I'd have to do a lot more pushups to be an Ubermensch." So she sees the thousand-foot rope running out, I presume. I won't go on in this particular OYS, but I'm grinding. What I see as the biggest single challenge is…

OYS Lifts are in 1,000-lb club. Body fat is 14%. Married 12 years, four kids. Three recent incidents. My kid was being bratty about something his fault and I snapped and threw a cereal box at the wall and it exploded. No excuse for losing control and frame. Sometimes I just want one fucking person besides me in my house to take responsibility for literally anything, particularly if it's their shit. I got catcalled while walking down the street. I was well-dressed, and it was the first time this …

Married long before RP was a known concept. PUA existed but no one knew about it yet. At 21, we did have a brief conversation about it after being engaged. Both naïve virgins, so we needed to figure out what we needed to figure out. After a discussion of logistics and realizing we didn't know enough to prepare anything, we checked out LaHaye and read The Act of Marriage so we knew what to expect. We made some mistakes, as a consequence. Hormonal birth control, for instance. If your tradition per…

I have been where you're at (except for the divorce threat, but w.r.t. Mormonism). First off, bracket truth claims, period. The way the notion of truth is used in LDS circles is incoherent, and deciding things like whether or not the church is true, or what happened historically, actually need to be set aside. Instead, use the heuristic of utility: is what a church teaches pragmatically useful for your ends, in the context of your mission? Sooner or later, every man arrives at a state of arreste…

OYS #7 of DoD: 405 DL, 205 BP, 365 BS, 145 OP · BW 190#, BF ~14% Married 13 years, me 35 her 34, 4 kids Social life. My objective is to build a male social circle. In some respects, I have this, but it's honestly a little thin on the ground. Most men are pretty blue-pilled or risk-averse. We did have a boxing movie night (Hard Times) with some success. T test came back. It's low but not clinically low. I'm going to focus on natural methods to increase it.

Okay, this one I have dialed in right now: I've got a decent job, transitioning this summer to a multi-year contract. I can automate an insane proportion of what I am responsible for which gives me room to work on improving my future value. I take on a task that no one else in the org wants, which means that I am locked into it, but I actually (really) enjoy i…

OYS #6 of DoD: 405 DL, 205 BP, 365 BS, 145 OP · BW 195#, BF ~15% Married 13 years, me 35 her 34, 4 kids My goal with finances was to resolve some longstanding procrastinations and start to build a better process. One thing to do (which I completed last week), was to switch from our global finance behemoth to a local credit union. (As an aside, we were in WaMu when it went down in '08; we ended up back in a big bank but always intended to bail out on them. And now we at last have.) I also want to…

OYS #5 of DoD: Lifts 405 DL, 205 BP, 365 BS, 145 OP BW 192#, BF ~15% (maintenance for a couple more weeks) DoD is Game. My objective is to figure out how to flirt with girls who give me IOIs, with the aim of running dread at DL7--DL9. Since, you know, I don't really know how to flirt except in a limited channel (bookish). So I've run some mayor game but I've a ways to go. I buy clothes in a couple of different "channels": professional wear and my casual stuff. I like variety (I enjoy dressing well), but I've been careful to buy blazers/pants/shirts/ties so that basically everything is intercompatible and I don't have to overthink dressing. (Some guys go as far as to only buy one kind of socks so they don't waste time folding them, but that's about my only TV time these days so I don't sweat it.) This means a limited color pallette and set of patterns, and then it…

I've been using Tanner Guzy's The Appearance of Power as a framework. I'm due for a style refresh, not because my tastes have changed so much but because my shoulders have broadened and rendered more than half of my dress shirts obsolete. OYS #3 (of DoD series) Week 3 is hygiene. My objective is to make myself look high-value. I've begun to maintain my personal and professional space in a higher degree of order. (It's clutter, not filth, but it's still been messy.) I've started using foot powder. I've started shaving daily on weekdays. I've hit this almost every day so far. In dietary terms, I currently am being mostly strict about sugar and I'm eating heavy in protein (8+ eggs per day). Longer-term, I am going to get my body fat percentage under 12% this summer. My viewpoint is that this is ALL power dynamics. This is the most insightful sentence in this whole page, OP. Speaking mormon a mormon, your entire status relationship with your wife is derived from the church (by default). This means that the church is a big stick she can hit you with if she doesn't like what you're doing at any point—there are enough blue-pilled talks and pedestalizing quotes around to justify almost any amount of obsequiousness to her. To reiterate, you need to establish 1) s…

Not just "never figure it out on his own"—but being embedded in a society that tells him to do the exact opposite of what he observes, to ignore the evidence of his own senses, to destroy his ability to reason about relationships effectively and his ability to network with other men to "compare notes" in male-only spaces. Very few people would be capable of overcoming that kind of conditioning for any topic—left as an exercise to the reader. Now, if you grew up in the Hyborian Age, your experien…

Summary: 10 years married, mid-30s, 6'0" 190 lbs, BF ~15%, DL6 this month. Texas Method 3×/week: SQ 325, DL 425, BP 195, OP 135. Decided to cut to 12% BF over the next few months (from 15% now). Ovulation week, marred by (genuine) illness but not ruined. Focusing on bringing more day game into the relationship, particularly (friendly) mental dominance. Make it relaxing for her, something she wants to do.

Yes, I've received them for a while. Renn is very thoughtful and woke on the things we care about.

It's more of a long-term to-do list than a way of tracking metrics (except for MRP stuff like DEVI which is explicitly built to measure), so aside from glancing it at and updating anything, I spend maybe five minutes a day working it, plus one afternoon a month. (I see it much more frequently than I touch it, so it's like having my day's goals down.) It's not time-intensive, which seems to have been the assumption in much of the other commentary. There is a little bit of "metric tracking", but m…

I understand the push-back and teasing about applying process at home. No one except me (and now you all) ever reads this process or knows about it. It's a fancy to-do list to keep me on top of things, not a spreadsheet to wave at the wife. If you were running a business, you'd keep similar processes and records, in one form or another. So there's nothing "wrong" with tracking and goalposts and systems for your love life etc., it'll just take a different form for different men. You write goals a…

Summary: 10 years married, mid-30s, 6'0" 190 lbs, BF ~15%, DL5. Texas Method 3×/week: SQ 315, DL 425, BP 195, OP 135. Undecided on whether to cut down again to ~12% BF or just live what I am now. Need to make that choice, but in any case I eat fairly healthily. Work is in hand, with a recent raise and three (!) side gigs getting started right now. Home work (maintenance and projects) slowing down for the winter now. All four kids are fairly young so daylight savings has wrought a number upon our…

1) Probably some of this. Until men started comparing notes online, I suspect that there was a lot of official dogma that was counteracted in private by real behavior. I.e., the talk and the walk diverged but even the men themselves didn't really notice. 2) You can tell yourself any story, particularly if you're told via the Feminine Imperative that it's true. Sometimes you believe it.

You can't create agency. It only comes from within. A high-agency individual is capable of acting on the situation. A low-agency person won't, and any attempt to force it becomes leading from behind. You fix you, that's all you can do. Read First, Kill All the Marriage Counselors. And the Dao De Jing (quite seriously).

This. It's akin to embarassment, the emotion from which there is nowhere to hide. You're acting out against yourself, your past self, your potential faggyness still lying latent within until it's burnt out of you.

I'm going to a local pro wrestling match tomorrow... won't be anything like that show! "As God is my witness, he's killed him!"

One advantage of grappling sports like BJJ and wrestling over striking sports is that you can spar at or near 100% with less risk of major injury. (I.e., your injuries are far more likely to be in limbs not the brain or internal organs.) Although I box, sometimes I'm a little jealous of the grappling sports for that reason.

I'm thinking through this as I write it out. I am not sure that pointing them out will be beneficial... perhaps more just you yourself being aware of them in her. Not to beta-cater or be passive-aggressive, but to understand why she's being bitchy. Like tracking Shark Week. (Also to nip passive-aggression in the bud.)
/r/askMRP29/06/17 03:37 PM

Most people aren't high-agency enough to even notice when they are using covert contracts. Are there benefits to being aware of when you are using a covert contract? Does it improve your behavior when you identify them? Would these benefits, if any, apply to a woman as well?
/r/askMRP29/06/17 02:52 PM

5LL is almost entirely premised on the concept of fortifying covert contracts. I think you've answered your question. I haven't seen 5LL implemented in a way that makes me envy the marriage in question in any way. This doesn't preclude weaponizing it against her, but that's a defect strategy and caps your potential gains from the situation. (I.e., use it to unearth her covert contracts.)

Tell us what you changed about yourself. What was most difficult? What surprised you most? What are you most pleased with? This is your chance to brag as well as own your failures. For myself, I find that having a plan is 90% of the battle. Once I have the "rut" to settle into, things go more smoothly. Case in point: at the gym, if it is written down ahead of time, it happens; if not, it normally doesn't. Time after time. I've done well with personal efforts throughout DoD, but multi-person coor…

Social and hobbies. Up my game in hobbies. Not looking for a new hobby, but will focus on improving in all three activities (boxing, woodworking, culinary). I have specific goals in each. Be the friend I wish I had. Reach out and mentor where I can (not in an RP sense necessarily). Because of what I look for in friends and my social situation, I've realized this past week that I'm pretty isolated, beyond the basic social matrix of church+work.

No kidding. (That's not sarcastic.) I'm actually in a non-tenured position (but a reliable unicorn), but you're still absolutely right, and I'll make sure to promote that to the top of my list for the next year of work.
/r/MarriedRedPill15/05/17 10:21 PM

I moved to a "bossless" position as teaching faculty, although I'm still embedded in a large university. The position is secure, and I've laid a lot of groundwork that will pay off in future semesters. I seriously expect to only need to work 30--40 hours per week moving forward, which gives me time to pursue outside projects (NOT goof off on Reddit :). Things to work on: Fix my productivity and workflow. Have made strides in this direction, and it's helping. Start thinking about the medium term.…

Maintain the course. Started at beginning of year, but a bit sloppy. Will fix. Pursue a chance to make extra money at work (done). Will work on a couple of side gigs seriously through the summer.
/r/MarriedRedPill09/05/17 07:42 PM

I'll tell you what worked, completely inadvertently, to get the dirty talk ball rolling in my marriage. There is a series of films, Before Midnight, Before Sunset, etc., set ten years apart in a couple's life. In one of them, he asks her, "How do you feel about the word 'pussy'?" So afterwards one of us turns to the other and says the same thing. Boom. You could play this off pretty subtly.

Game. Lay more game on my wife. DL 4 and rising. Finally got the baby out of our room at night, so things are already looking up. Don't be in front of a damn screen while she's around. From my notes last month: I'm getting pushback about changes; specifically, she's charged several times that either 1) everything I do is transactional; or 2) I never woo her anymore. Trying not to DEER or go BP in response, but dammit this is frustrating. I do tell her I'm waiting for her to write me a sonnet, an…

Style. Fill basic gaps. I know what I'm missing: v-neck tees, a couple of good casual henleys. Know what I'm going for in casual wear. Finish needed tailoring. Shoes to cobbler, jacket to tailor. I wear a nonironic moustache.

Hygiene. Explore colognes. Settle on a characteristic scent. I'm in my mid-30s, and it's time to settle down. I have tried enough to know what notes I prefer, but now I need to commit to one. (Not that I wear cologne a ton, but I think it's time for a comfortable regularity. I do have pomade and aftershave figured out.)

I try to throw it in ahead of heavy PRs based on a medical article I read awhile back: Researchers at the Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute found that men who had fasted for 24 hours had a 2000% increase in circulating HGH. Women who were tested had a 1300% increase in HGH. source (That's a secondary source but I don't want to hunt for the original right now.) So I hit my daily 3,000 cals except for one day a week, which a 24-h fast drops to about 1,500. My average daily intake in a w…

Diet. Track diet. Daily throughout these sixty days. My weekly reward for compliance is an 1893 if I ace it (cheat day—you didn't think this was a dirty bulk?). So far, so good. Eat 3,000+ calories per day. Eat BW in grams of protein. Oh man has this been hard to hit. I'm pooping three times a day. Fast 1x/wk (hard while bulking but means I have to step it up). Did it Sunday, hit PR on DL this morning. Fitness followup. All good, keeping up with my goals.

Progress report: I have obtained most of the materials I need to make the chin-up bar the way I want it. I intend to update as I complete. The holes are drilled, the rope is tied, and we're ready to go. On my garage floor between the sawhorses and the table saw.

I've pulled the link and I'll take a look. Thanks for the tip. Edit: Nice progression. Reminds me that Arnold says a good exercise is to try to reduce the number of sets it takes you to hit 50 pullups. Integrated (as soon as I have the bar at home).

Fitness. I'm mostly happy with this, but one specific change I will make is to incorporate more pull-ups into my routine. Lifting 5/3/1 4x/wk; this stays the same as it has always been. I'm bulking for the foreseeable future; I have only about 100 lbs to go until I hit the thousand-pound club on lifting, but I figure I'll need to add about 20 lbs of bodyweight to hit it. Set up chin-up bar (with climbing bombs and dowels). This is auxiliary for my deadlift grip. Maintain daily pushups and/or chi…
