Idk about canada, but joining the military in the US can get you out of poverty and into the upper middle class. You can get out at age 25 after making 45-55k per year then have schooling paid for. Depending on what you learned, security clearance, other credentials, jobs between 60-100k(heavily dependent on what you were in for and education) can be easily landed before age 30.
