The fear of getting too attached/getting hurt will freeze you in place if you let it. Go after that girl. What’s the worst that can happen? She breaks up with you? We’re all divorced, there’s not much else a new girl can do to hurt us more than we’ve already been hurt. 😂

As a father to 3 little ones especially my 9 year old daughter, I hope she sees me like the way you see your dad when she’s older. I hate that I couldn’t show her how a happy marriage looks but I always strive to be better daily. At the end of the day I just hope she and my other kids know I tried my best. Thanks OP!

You’re right at the start of a very long journey OP. It’s going to suck for a very long time. Everyone heals at their own pace. Don’t put any pressure on yourself to find another wife. Work on yourself and become a man who can be the best dad possible, while also being content with being alone. Get peace on your own before even thinking about adding another partner to your life. Physical-Mental-Financial-Spiritual Health all factor into your happiness. Get those right and you’ll never look back.…

Just control what you can control bro. Worrying about your marriage failing will just lead you to make “safe” decisions in your marriage that might end up making you a part of that statistic. Every day be thankful that you won the lottery of life with a wife! Don’t ever take her for granted and always be present/thoughtful even in arguments. Find a way for both of you to maintain your happiness alone and together. Don’t lose your identity as a person just because you’re married. Do what you can …

I’m sorry you’re put in this difficult situation OP. It’s an impossible situation to choose. Your wife has unfortunately made that choice very easy for you though. Absolutely insane behavior on their end. As for what next steps, you need to talk to a lawyer. There’s a lot of moving pieces in your situation, but you lucked out in that they left the marital home while you stayed. Not sure on the legalities but a judge will probably look at this and think your wife is the one who’s been alienating …

What I will tell you OP, is that 4 years later it still hurts that I can’t tuck my kids in every night. Just not as much. What I do with that hurt is I channel it into thoughts of what I can do with them when they’re here on my weeks. I usually end up seeing them for appointments/practices/sporting events during the week anyways so I never go 1 week without seeing my kids. But it does suck. But what would have sucked even more would have been staying in the same house as my ex wife after we both…

I’m not too far behind you (33) but I have had a really hard time. At first a year after my ex and I split I dated 2 women. When it got to the point that we would be exclusive both times I got cold feet. Since then I’ve gone on dates here and there, and last talked to one woman for a couple of months. But I just don’t want to give up the peace that I’ve found since divorce. Plus I have 3 young kids (11, 9, and 6) that keep me plenty busy on my weeks lol. Stay strong brother 🙏🏻

From your other comments as well as this one OP there are obviously other very serious red flags going on here besides the weight issue. Therapy is highly recommended on all accounts here (you, your wife and a couples therapist) so you can dive into both your issues individually and through a couples therapist. I know it sounds cliche to recommend but I’d try everything (and I did with my ex) before going the nuclear option with divorce. I hope your journey ends well either way 👍🏻.

Op. You might be looking at this from a “grass is greener on the other side” perspective. I promise you that is generally NOT the case. Dating in mid-late thirties with young kids eliminates a lot of the dating pool for you. While there is a chance you can find what you’re looking for, you’re looking for an extremely small needle in an infinitely huge hay stack. Maybe communicate how you’re feeling to your wife and try therapy. From what you’re saying she’s trying different things to lose weight…

It’s different because I have kids. Of course I’d redo everything as is. But if I had no kids? HELL no.

I’ve heavily considered it myself. My kids are 11,8, and 6. I don’t want anymore of my own. It’s going to take a lot of women out of the dating pool for me (I’m 33) but I’d rather have peace at this point in my life and enjoy the kids that I do have.

Great post! I am 3 years out and can’t agree more. The last few months have really opened my eyes about how I need to be at peace with my new normal and build a sustainable life for my kids and myself. That’s what the next chapter of my life will be. Keep up the good work OP.

My ex-wife told me she didn’t love me anymore and wanted a divorce May 2021. She also has Bipolar Disorder Type 2. She was in one of her low points but was also emotionally cheating on me with another man. A month later I was so desperate to keep my family together, that I moved back in but she also told me a similar thing “I’m not in love with you anymore, but I want to try and make this work”. Fast Forward to July 2022 and I discovered an Emotional Affair she’d been having with a man online. T…

For me, it was a much better relationship with all 3 of my kids. I was such a miserable person due to my marriage and my ex-wife. Along with other past traumas that I never faced. But going through my divorce forced me to face those ugly truths and make a choice to be better. And because of that, my kids now live in a much less hostile environment, and it’s lead to me having a much closer relationship to them.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
