Last century? I’m a male in Ukraine and this is my daily reality. Trying my best not to be pulled off the street and thrown in a trench with freezing knee deep water, where 1000 people die or get injured every day. They reinforced the western border and are not letting males anywhere near it. This state did nothing for me even before the war and my life was hell. You do not spend all money on food and don’t buy water. Domestic and international are separate equally important things, and US has enough money to keep up with both. I see the main cause as incompetence and indifference to the civilians who are not fighting the war. They claimed that this decision to stop letting out disabled people was due to them not being to identify some kind of paper, which “could be forged” (trust me, it was already nearly impossible to get a disability for males). Then our bright-minded government prohibits leaving the country for all disabled males, instead of making the diagnosis/disability system work.

I have moderate autism, which makes even peaceful time jobs very challenging. Autism is not a recognized diagnosis in Ukraine, unlike in almost every other nation, therefore I don’t have a legal claim to avoid conscription.
